So now that you know God (or should I say, now that God knows you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual principles of this world? Galatians 4:9 NLT
Free In Deeds
At the age of 18, I was graduating high school with hope for the future. That same year, Isabella turned 18 and was sold into sexual slavery to pay her family’s debts to the Mexican drug cartels. She entered into a life of hopelessness.

By the time we met, we were both 36. No longer young and beautiful, she had been thrown into the trash, literally, by her pimps. Forced to scavenge for anything of value her bosses could sell, Isabella spent her life in a toxic, festering, stinking environment, enslaved in every way.

We met when I took a mission team to the trash dumps of Matamoros. Upon learning her story, we asked Isabella’s boss how much a human being cost. The answer? A scant $631.

We set Isabella free that day. She was free to find her family – free to live wherever she wanted. My heart soared to be part of setting someone free from the evil of slavery. I had visions of her happiness.

Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. – John 8:36

But Isabella wasn’t free. Knowing only physical, mental and emotional slavery her entire adult life, she was unable to leave the trash dump. She was still there four years later, of her own free will, gathering cardboard along with her husband and child. “Forgive me,” she said. “I don’t know how to live out there. I only know how to live here.”

Because of the mercy given me by Jesus Christ, I was able to hug her and encourage her. Yes, I was disappointed she decided to stay in the dump, but I see many of us in her.

Despite the freedom Christ gives us when we get saved, we remain in our trash heaps – unhealthy relationships, addictions, negative thought patterns, violent behaviors, immaturity and other things we need to put in our past. It’s hard to see yourself as clean and set free when, on the inside, you feel filthy and tied up.

But hear me on this: you are clean! You are free! You are now righteous in the sight of God despite not having everything together! Work toward getting out of your personal trash dump. Isabella did. She eventually left and I know I will see her in Heaven to get the rest of the story. What about you?

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Jesus-driven thinking helps and heals. This is what the Bible has to say on the subject: For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. – Romans 8:6

The Cherokee nation knew it, too. Check out this spot-on tribal tale:

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life. He told the boy, “A terrible fight is going on inside me. It is a fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and self-doubt."

The old man continued: “The other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.” He then told the boy, “This same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute, then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The wise old chief replied, “The one you feed.”

What wolf have you been feeding? Just know the wolf of evil thoughts will eventually devour you, and likely others as well. Thoughts become actions, and there is always collateral damage.

That’s not you! You can control your thought life and ensure the evil wolf starves to death.
et_pb_blurb"}">Free In Deeds

Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. James 4:8 NLT
Personal Message
I have noticed there’s a balance to be taught concerning the working of miracles. Hear me on this: just because God does a miracle does not mean it’s His stamp of approval over somebody’s life. Nor is the lack of a miracle God’s stamp of disapproval. God’s mercy is revealed in all sorts of ways, miracles being only one of them.

Some miracles seem, for lack of a better term, more “miraculous” than others. Other miracles are more quiet, everyday miracles — the kind we never forget, but others may shun as a one-in-a-million happenstance. No matter what kind of miracle you receive, know that, in all instances where God stepped in and changed things for a different outcome, that outcome is for His glory and your encouragement.

In other words, all miracles are a personal message from a personal God. Incredible!

God’s mercy is also revealed to all sorts of people — saved and unsaved alike. Do not begrudge a non-believer their miracle. God can introduce Himself however He wants, to whoever He wants and, get this – no miracle is wasted! God is happy to display His power even if nobody recognizes it. Many don’t.

God is in the search and rescue business. Yes, He likes to show up at the 59th minute of the 11th hour. He likes to swoop in when your back is against that proverbial wall, the money is gone or the end of the rope is slipping away. He loves to jump-start a heart or clear a body of disease just as hope is gone.

Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man, is possible with God.” – Luke 18:27

Why? Because He’s crazy about us — believers and those who don’t know Him yet. To both, He says, “I see you, and I love you. Now see Me and seek Me.” So, brag on King Jesus. Brag on His miracle-working power and His love.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Spiritual Change
Steeped in the WordApril 7, 2025 – 04/07/2025
4 – Creation and Things That Are Made
7 – The Spirit of God
How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Matthew 7:4 NLT
Spiritual Change
Have you ever wanted to call down fire from heaven? I’d be lying if I said I didn’t. Like the disciples, we are tempted to torch our enemies when they hate us.

I was only 12, but when the old man next door made a rude remark about my “plumber’s syndrome” when I had outgrown a pair of pants, I got a bad case of “I’m gonna get you back.” As that man called me names, he had no idea that behind my blue eyes were visions of his fields burning to the ground. While I didn’t do that, my friends and I did wait until nightfall. We took white paint and tagged his cattle with derogatory statements on their black hide. Although it’s one of my favorite childhood memories, and my friends and I laughed our heads off as he chased his cows around with a hose, it was not the right way to handle a hater.

What is? To continue what you are doing for the Lord. Hold tight to your reputation and testimony. Pray for your haters and keep serving the Lord. Too many people let detractors stop them from their calling. That’s not you.

Take a lesson from Nehemiah. When his enemies came to heckle, mock, and threaten him as he rallied the people to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem, he didn’t get scared or discouraged. He didn’t quit. He armed his people and told them to continue to build as he and others kept watch for an enemy attack.

When your haters come after your reputation, testimony, ministry, family, business or blessings, arm yourself with the Word. Take a page from Nehemiah’s playbook: pray and continue working to please God. His opinion is the only one that matters.

Hear, O our God, for we are despised; turn their reproach on their own heads, and give them as plunder to a land of captivity! Do not cover their iniquity, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before You; for they have provoked You to anger before the builders. So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work. Nehemiah 4:4-6

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

One God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.
Ephesians 4:6 NLT
Created In Love
I was stomping around Rome with my wife when I saw this long line of people. Tourists from every corner of the globe – fat ones, skinny ones, tall and short. Americans with loud colored shirts, Asians with big cameras and selfie sticks, and Europeans with tight-fitting black clothes. All tourists and all in line.

“What the heck is that,” I asked out loud after the fourth city block of this single-file mass of humanity. “It is the line for the Sistine Chapel,” said our taxi driver.

I found out from Trip Advisor that waiting in line without a guided tour can take an entire day before you are herded through for a break-neck glance at the painting that changed history.

“The Creation of Adam,” painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, started a revival across Europe that crushed the Catholic domination of the church because it gave people a new revelation of God.

Before that, people thought of God as the cosmic punisher. They believed He was just waiting to hammer them with disease, disaster, darkness, and despair if they messed up. God, they thought after the death and destruction of the Crusades, cannot be good.

Then came this beautiful, inspired painting of a benevolent God gladly imparting life – not death or punishment – to the lifeless Adam. The truth was revealed, and it blew people away. They had not dared to think of God as good. Could He be?

The answer is yes. He is good. He is a life-giver. It’s a truth we need to be shouting from the rooftops even today. People in the 21st century are hungry for the goodness of God. See the line of people at the Sistine Chapel? They wait all day for a glimpse of goodness. Show them there is more! He is more!

Pursuit of Grace
Steeped in the WordApril 5, 2025 – 04/05/2025
4 – Creation and Things That Are Made
5 – The Grace of God
Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time.
Colossians 4:5 NKJV
Pursuit of Grace
“Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” is a well-known phrase in the United States Declaration of Independence. It’s part of one of the most influential sentences in the history of the English language. I believe they are anointed words – God-breathed – and if you think that’s hokey, well, rain on you!

When those 55 men signed their “John Hancock” under the 55 words of the Declaration, they handed themselves a place of honor in American history and a death warrant by the British government.

You see, in their minds, the right to pursue one’s own heart and dreams outside of government shackles was so essential, that it had to come from God. They believed this so wholeheartedly, they were willing to die for it.

The true pursuit of happiness is a God thing because God loves it when we pursue Him and His purpose for us. He even blesses it.

The only finders in the Kingdom are seekers. The only people who get the answers are those who consistently ask. Those who walk through supernatural doors to powerful upgrade are those willing to knock at the door until someone finally opens it.

Limp-wristed, milquetoast attitudes in the Kingdom tend to produce weak results. God may be a loving Father, but don’t forget; He is also a Warrior King.

That pursuit of happiness? You have to go after it against all odds and what’s accepted as normal. Even if it doesn’t make sense, you have to be willing to pursue what is on your heart so God can bless it.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Grounded in FaithDeclare!I am committed to pursuing God and His purpose for my life. I know His ways are higher than my ways, so I am ready for unexpected opportunities He brings my way. He pours out His blessings on me.

When you multiply the Kingdom, Heaven applauds. But what about when you blow it trying to bring a message of hope to a friend or fail to be a winning witness to a co-worker? What happens when you mess up? Heaven applauds!

…so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. Proverbs 3:4 NLT
Jesus, The Perfect Friend
The Caddo Indians were remarkable. Over 400 years ago, their tribes were filled with farmers, warriors, potters, artisans and traders with a unique culture. They were so powerful, populous and advanced that Spanish explorers considered them civilized and friendly.

Steeped in the WordApril 2, 2025 – 04/02/2025
4 – Creation and Things That Are Made
2 – A Faithful Witness and Being Set Apart
Yes, and the Lord will deliver me from every evil attack and will bring me safely into his heavenly Kingdom. All glory to God forever and ever ! Amen.
2 Timothy 4:18 NLT
Called to Testify
Do you have people who hate you, talk bad about you, and want to see you fail? Are you dealing with somebody who is envious of you or your ministry? I hope so.

Why? Because there is no way you can be part of the body of Christ without having someone persecute you. Sadly, this is the world we live in, and you’ve got to know how to handle your haters. Believe me, haters don’t like to see anyone else get blessed.

A good example is 9/11, when you and I watched in horror as over 3,000 people, mostly Americans, plunged to their deaths after terrorists slammed two planes into the World Trade Center towers. While we cried in despair, Arab and Muslim mobs throughout the world celebrated the massacre. Many of them were right here on American soil!

Why would they dance in the streets when good people were so gruesomely murdered? Because Americans are hated, and let me tell you why: because we are blessed.

Get it in your head right now that if you’re going to be blessed, you are going to be hated. Decide to be blessed anyway. Especially in these final days, Godly people are going to be despised. Someone is going to want to take what you have. They want to make you look small so they can seem tall.

Word one: you have to be careful who you share your blessings and dreams with because some folks can’t handle seeing you blessed – just like Joseph’s brothers.

So, how do you handle your haters so you don’t abort the blessings God has for you? Know this: God knows you have haters. He does. And, get this: you are not allowed to become cynical, scornful, or distrustful. You are to turn to Him and the Word. Continue to be a good example, even to those who jealously want to take what you have.

Pray that light would invade the darkness of their hearts, then strive to be that light by going after the blessings and favor God has for you.

Wonder of Creation
Steeped in the WordApril 1, 2025 – 04/01/2025
4 – Creation and Things That Are Made
1 – Unity
Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. 1 Corinthians 4:1 NKJV
Wonder of Creation
In 2005, a giant waterfall was discovered in California. The 400-foot hidden wonder was found just 15 miles from a national park headquarters in Shasta County. It had been there for centuries, and nobody knew it.

Now, 400 feet of raging whitewater sounds like it would be hard to miss, but miss it they did. I believe it is a prophetic voice for you and I. Something so magnificent waiting to be discovered could only be seen from above. Nobody trekked in and discovered it. It was found through satellite images.

Sometimes, you can’t see the proverbial forest for the trees, and sometimes, you can’t see the 400-foot raging waterfall because it is off the trail everybody traditionally walks on. This waterfall was there all the time, but it was off the map.

I hear the heartbeat of the Father in this. God knew it was there all the time. He was just waiting for someone to discover it. When they did, I’m sure it was a great day for the Lord.

The Father is waiting for you to move forward for upgrade. He wants you to discover new facets of Him and to explore new opportunities to share Him with others. Have the honor of a King!

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.

Painful Privilege
Steeped in the WordMarch 30, 2025 – 03/30/2025
3 – Perfect Completion
30 – Acts of Redemption and Accomplishing Priestly Service
You brought me up from the grave, O Lord. You kept me from falling into the pit of death. Psalm 30:3 NLT
Painful Privilege
If you want to develop selfless kingdom skill sets and gifts of goodness, be prepared. It’s going to hurt. You cannot guard your heart. To truly become selfless, you’ll need to let yourself get totally wrecked with the pain of others. You see, the lack of empathy is the essence of evil. Jesus became a man so He could empathize with us. The least we can do is show empathy to others.

If you want to win a hurting world to the Kingdom, you must consider the plights and hurts of the lives you cross. You must submerge yourself in the mire, knowing Christ is with you. Let goodness lead you into messy places in desperate need of light and love.

Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore, be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. – Matthew 10:16

A good friend told me she prayed to have a heart like God’s. She got what she asked for and she warned me, it came with a high emotional price.

The Father filled her with empathy and brought her a long line of people in dark, desperate situations. While walking through their pain with them, she said her heart was crushed. She was totally spent. However, she said getting to take part in the victory when the pain was over made it worth all the emotional turmoil.

It’s time to get personally involved. Supporting ministries is great but roll up your sleeves and get dirty. Feed and clothe people. Visit the hurting, lonely, and imprisoned. Give generously of your money, time, and attention.

Bring love and order into messed-up lives and get wrecked for Jesus!

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

You can control your thought life and ensure the evil wolf starves to death.
et_pb_blurb"}">Painful Privilege
Hebrews 4:15
Grounded in FaithDeclare!God is bringing me into a new place. I have confidence as I move forward in His goodness to help someone in need in an area where I have already gained victory. I trust the Holy Spirit to give me just what I need to stay in that moment.
