Grace to Bring the Kingdom
Steeped in the WordMay 21, 2025 – 5/21/2025
5 – The Grace of God
21 – Manifest Spirit
For just as the Father gives life to those he raises from the dead, so the Son gives life to anyone he wants. – John 5:21 NLT
Grace to Bring the Kingdom
When I say good overcomes evil, I say it because I know for a fact what happens when we go after goodness.

The OpenDoor Food Bank has been a game changer for our church and community for over two decades. However, the way it started is a great example of goodness in action.

The old man was 84. He was a WWII veteran who lived in a small community of mostly elderly, isolated folks and he was roofing his girlfriend’s house one shingle at a time. No joke. He would climb up the rickety old ladder with one shingle, hammer it down, then call it quits for the day. He was old and the Texas sun was especially punishing.

My father-in-law saw him and called me. “You ought to help him,” he said. I did. That’s when goodness showed up. Not mine, but the Lord’s.

After finishing the roof, his girlfriend, an old and frail lady, offered me lemonade. It was the only thing in her refrigerator. I got my wife, and we ran to the store.

When we returned with provisions, the old man grumbled, “What about me? I need food. And my other girlfriend needs food too.”

When I told him we would be back on Saturday with supplies for the two of them, he said he had several other friends and neighbors in need. “Bring them all,” I said.

There were over 30 hungry, needy, elderly folks at his house that weekend, and the OpenDoor Food Bank was born.

What would have happened if we had ignored the empty refrigerator and just prayed for someone to help? What if we would have brought food to the old woman and man, then said, “We don’t have the money or time to help the others. Maybe you should call a church.”

Thousands of people would be hungry, desperate, sick, hurting and going to hell – that’s what. Because we acted and were faithful to continue acting, thousands of our neighbors not only have food, they’ve been healed and saved through the OpenDoor Food Bank. What has God called you to steward?

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Jesus-driven thinking helps and heals. This is what the Bible has to say on the subject: For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. – Romans 8:6

The Cherokee nation knew it, too. Check out this spot-on tribal tale:

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life. He told the boy, “A terrible fight is going on inside me. It is a fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and self-doubt."

The old man continued: “The other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.” He then told the boy, “This same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute, then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The wise old chief replied, “The one you feed.”

What wolf have you been feeding? Just know the wolf of evil thoughts will eventually devour you, and likely others as well. Thoughts become actions, and there is always collateral damage.

That’s not you! You can control your thought life and ensure the evil wolf starves to death.
et_pb_blurb"}">Grace to Bring the Kingdom

Faith to Speak Up
Steeped in the WordMay 19, 2025 – 5/19/2025
5 – The Grace of God
19 – Faith
So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Matthew 5:19 NLT
Faith to Speak Up
There’s a stigma among cultural Christianity that the Brewer heartily maintains is false. It is the doctrine of “nice.” It is the belief that being righteous or Christ-like, is being nice all the time.

Because of the doctrine of “nice,” Christians tend to fall in step with the crazy politically correct bologna that is being fed to us these days by, among others, the American media.

Where is the media when Christians are butchered by Islamic extremists, or a Christian pastor is imprisoned in Iran for his faith?

A few years back, 23 Christians from Korea were taken prisoner in Afghanistan while on a mission trip trying to bring comfort to the people there. Several were killed and many nearly starved to death. It was barely mentioned on the news, and the media left their faith completely out of the story.

News reports said “foreigners” or “Koreans” are being murdered by “terrorists.” It was never mentioned that these people were Christians being butchered by Islamic extremists, aka radical Muslims.

The doctrine of “nice” does not want to hurt the imagined feelings of “them,” whoever “they” are, by speaking truth. If we speak up, we’re not nice and, “they” tell us Jesus was always nice so we’re not very Christ-like.

Thus, many Christians tend to back down believing this lie. Let me tell you something you’ll never hear at a traditional church service: God has not called you to be nice. He commanded you to be full of life and full of the love of God.

We are called to be salt and light to a world in need. Sometimes, salt stings and light gives us a headache. We are still supposed to overcome darkness for those around us.

Don’t think that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came to bring trouble, not peace. – Matthew 10:34 Contemporary English Version

It’s OK to get hacked off in holy hatred of evil. Jesus didn’t back down when the chief priests and pharisees turned the temple from a house of prayer into the Walmart from hell. He upset the religious “nice” and chased out the crooks and moneychangers. Don’t play nice. Be real. Be salt, light and love to a dying world.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Thought Life
Steeped in the WordMay 18, 2025 – 5/18/2025
5 – The Grace of God
18 – (+) Life More Abundantly (-) The Bondage of Sin
We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them. 1 John 5:18 NLT
Thought Life
God believes your thought life is priceless! That’s why He instructs you to think about very specific things. You see, spiritually, your mind is a reproductive organ. It’s true! Twice, (Ephesians 6:13 and 1 Peter 1:13) the Bible refers to your thinking realm as the “loins of your mind.” Now don’t go off the deep end here!

This is what God is saying:

Thinking on one thing always produces something else. Now, that “something else” can be good or bad, depending on what you’re thinking!

Here is a good example from Psalms 8. When David considered the stars and the heavens, it made him realize how awesome and powerful God is. One thought led to another. You see, thinking on God things, produces other God realizations.

On the other side of the coin, thinking on worldly things will produce more worldly thoughts. Like Eve, you are “talking to snakes” when you practice worldly thoughts and conversations in your head. This is dangerous as your thoughts generally become your actions.

Thinking about telling off your boss? Considering letting your spouse know they’re wrong? Decide you’re not going to be pushed around anymore – that you are going to strike first? Those thoughts will bubble up into words and actions. So don’t practice for a fight because you will get one. Cast ungodly imaginations back to the pit of hell.

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ… – 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

If you don’t get a handle on bringing your thoughts into captivity to Christ Jesus, you will be “birthing” illegitimate thoughts and actions. Get your spiritual zipper up all the way and cover the loins of your mind with the Belt of Truth! The truth is, you CAN control your thought life.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Heart For Victory
Steeped in the WordMay 17, 2025 – 5/17/2025
5 – The Grace of God
17 – Overcoming Victory
Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:17 NKJV
Heart For Victory
Most people can’t handle a fast rise to the top because instant change is required. This is the reality of upgrade and forward.

It’s one thing for God to reveal His wonderful plan for you. It’s another for you to conform your life to the image of that plan. Let’s go to the example of Saul.

Saul was the king of Israel in title, but not in his heart. He was made king instantly and never conformed his way of thinking or sought after the will of God. That’s why God found a man “after God’s own heart.”

You see, David was willing to go through a very difficult process to conform his life to the image of the Lord’s plan to be a Godly king. And, he had to do it before he ever saw the plan manifest.

David was ostracized by his family and sent to tend sheep – a thankless and dangerous job. He faced and killed an evil giant, something no man in Israel, including Saul, would attempt. He endured Saul’s jealousy and numerous attempts on his life. He endured years of exile in the wilderness surrounded by snakes, scorpions and scoundrels. He was shamed, slandered and scorned publicly by those who should have respected him.

Incredibly, these things prepared him for his upgrade to king.

Poor Saul was exactly the opposite. He ended up begging for death on the bloody slopes of Gilboa. It wasn’t his upgrade that killed him. It was his inability to change once the upgrade happened that cost Saul his life. There was a whole new life of responsibilities required of him, but he never embraced or owned up to them, or the God who made it all possible. That’s not you!

…so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God…

– Colossians 1:10

Grace to Stand
Steeped in the WordMay 14, 2025 – 5/14/2025
5 – The Grace of God
14 – Generational Promises and The Fear of the Lord
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14 NKJV
Grace to Stand
Some of my favorite historical heroes are warriors who stood up against the rising surge of evil in their day. Call me silly, but I want to stand with those guys and I want to be connected to a church body who does the same.

I want to shoot cover for Davy Crocket swinging his empty musket from the walls of the Alamo. I want to help William Wallace defeat the evil King Longshanks and actually dare to invade England. I want to support Wellington chasing down the tyrant Napoleon.

I love it when the good guys confront the bad guys and all hell breaks loose. Why? Because there is actually GLORY in the confrontation of evil. A dangerous glory, but I want it!

Warriors have always sniffed the winds of glory on the holy grounds of terrible conflict. Can you see it in tiny Miss Rosa Parks or Harriet Tubman?

Goodness should be your battle cry. You should be willing to fight for what is right and good. Unfortunately, many of us cower hoping someone else will do the dirty work – and it is dirty work! You look away saying it’s not your responsibility or even your right to step in. That’s where you are sorely mistaken.

God says it’s your duty to battle on the behalf of the widow, the orphan, the sojourner, the poor, the sick, the oppressed. First, we battle in prayer, then we jump into the direct fight.

A friend of mine was jogging when she witnessed a group of teenagers circled up. There was a ruckus, and from what she could see, it was a pretty bloody fight. She didn’t keep jogging or call the police so they could show up five minutes later when the damage was done. All 110 pounds of her ran over, stepped into the fray, and shouted, “Jesus does not want you to do this!” She shouted it three times with her hands held high in holy surrender, and suddenly – silence. The fighting stopped, the group dispersed, and she, being a nurse, tended to the wounds, physical and spiritual, of the bully’s target.

“When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you.” – Deuteronomy 20:1-2

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Perfect Warrior King
On the holy ground what would be called Texas, a general with the righteous cause of freedom raced across the battlefield of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836.

Vastly outnumbered in broad daylight, Sam Houston was so far ahead of the rest of his men, he drew all the fire from Santa Anna’s Mexican army.

With two horses shot out from under him, Houston limped toward the enemy pointing a sword, yelling, “Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!” He would soon be the president of the nation of Texas. Though never actually a king, he was a proven warrior. I love a warrior king!

Get this: not only is Jesus not scared of the battles you face, He actually gets revved up about the prospect of another glorious scrap for your sake! Jesus is no wimp and you shouldn’t be either.

Sign me up to serve with Christians who have the guts to proclaim Jesus in a day where good is being called evil. Is that you? Are you a bad motor scooter for Jesus? If you are, let’s battle together with our warrior King!

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

You can control your thought life and ensure the evil wolf starves to death.
et_pb_blurb"}">Perfect Warrior King
That’s why I love Jesus. You see, real Christians don’t just serve a king. They serve a passionate, fearless warrior king.
The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. – Exodus 15:3
Grounded in FaithDeclare!I make freedom my cry and mercy my vengeance. The Lord calls you to be a bad motor scooter, so continue to fight darkness with the light of truth. I won’t let darkness into my family, my environment, my community. I stand firm with my Warrior King – He Wins!
