Live!

Steeped in the Word

June 10, 2025 – 6/10/2025

6 – The Flesh of Man

10 – Perfect Order

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

Ephesians 6:10 NLT

Live!

Sometimes, a good and godly person can get the feeling something bad is about to happen. It usually includes an attachment of, “and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

This is a theme that transcends culture and the ages and beats up on saved and pagan alike. Everybody gets the heebie jeebies now and then. It’s a feeling of impending doom and a sickening dread that threatens us.

Teenagers flocked by the millions to a movie called “Final Destination” and its sequel. It’s a scary movie about kids who cheat death and then spend the next two hours running from it. The conclusion is that once death is after you, it is going to get you.

I have something to tell you that will absolutely deflate the terror that once death is after you, you are doomed. Let me turn that 2-hour movie into a 5-minute flick. Death is not after you. Death already has you. It caught you before you were born!

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men. – Romans 5:12

Death isn’t chasing anybody! It doesn’t have to. Death never has and never will pursue you. With that knowledge comes freedom!

There is a great country song by Tim McGraw where he sings about having cancer. Knowing death is inevitable, he sings, “I loved deeper, and I spoke sweeter, and I gave forgiveness I’d been denying. Someday, I hope you get the chance to live like you were dying.”

Stop fearing death and fear a life not lived to the full. Live like today is your last day to make King Jesus proud of you!

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Jesus-driven thinking helps and heals. This is what the Bible has to say on the subject: For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. – Romans 8:6

The Cherokee nation knew it, too. Check out this spot-on tribal tale:

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life. He told the boy, “A terrible fight is going on inside me. It is a fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and self-doubt."

The old man continued: “The other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.” He then told the boy, “This same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute, then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The wise old chief replied, “The one you feed.”

What wolf have you been feeding? Just know the wolf of evil thoughts will eventually devour you, and likely others as well. Thoughts become actions, and there is always collateral damage.

That’s not you! You can control your thought life and ensure the evil wolf starves to death.
et_pb_blurb"}">Live!

I know the Lord loves me. He went to the cross, gave up His life, and came back to life to give me life. I will live a life that honors His sacrifice and gives Him glory. Fear has no power on me because Jesus gave me His power and authority so I can walk confidently.

Finishing Well

Steeped in the Word

June 9, 2025 – 6/09/2025

6 – The Flesh of Man

9 – (+) Fruit Bearing (-) Judgment

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9 NLT

Finishing Well

Overcomers finish strong. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you have no other option than to overcome the hell satan throws at you in this life. You are an overcomer.

Paul saw plenty of hell on earth. Roman beatings, imprisonment, sickness, shipwrecks, hunger, thirst. I’m sure the greatest pain he bore was watching loved ones turning not only away from him, but away from Paul’s beloved Jesus.

Remember, Paul saw Jesus face-to-face on the road to Damascus. He knows that he knows that Jesus is God. How painful to know something is real and true, but those you love reject it and you! Despite this, Paul says something amazing at the end of his life.

“For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

– 2 Timothy 4:6-7

Paul knows he’s fought hard. He’s battled man’s will and wrath. He overcame Satan’s attacks. He even outlasted his own imperfect self – that thorn in his flesh that haunted his thoughts. Yes, the good fight is one that you win, and believe me, Paul won his race to fulfill his destiny – his purpose in life.

Paul didn’t finish big just because he was chosen by God to carry the message of Jesus to the Gentiles. He worked hard toward his goal, and, as God promised, he reaped what he sowed – victory! If Paul had not been intentional about being a drop-dead, sold-out Jesus freak to the end, his finish might have been different.

Be intentional about following Jesus. Be determined to bring others to salvation. Doggedly go after any and all Godly things. Make a plan and map out your life for your big finish. You have one, you know. There is a big finish waiting for you. You just have to claim it today and, like Paul, chase after your purpose to the finish line.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Start Anew Again

Steeped in the Word

June 8, 2025 – 6/08/2025

6 – The Flesh of Man

8 – New Beginnings

Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. Galatians 6:8 NLT

Start Anew Again

As saved people, our hearts, minds, and homes are supposed to reflect Heaven – not hell. Unfortunately, too many of us have given those territories to the devil. I recently saw an interview with a former satanist. This brother was really high up in the church of satan, and was asked if a demon could possess someone from just listening to music or going to a concert. I was not surprised when he answered yes.

He went on to say the devil, aka “the prince of the power of the air,” uses three portals to influence us: our eyes (what we see), our ears (what we listen to), and our mouth (what we talk about). These are the ways evil enters our lives.

If you are saved and sealed by the Holy Spirit, no demon can possess you. However, you and I let the devil speak into us every day. What television shows do you watch? What music do you listen to, and what magazines or websites do you read? Are you letting your eyes lust or covet? What games do you play? Do you feel like you have to fit in with others, so you follow them?

We let him speak through us as well. Think about your conversations. Are they filled with gossip, slander, griping, or envy? Are you using ugly words, sexual overtones, or blasphemies?

When the devil controls your atmosphere, you get the following:

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

– Galatians 5:19-21

Kick the devil out of your house. Order him out in the name of Jesus and fill your life with the things God recommends for a right mind. Your Father loves the way you think about Him. While you may feel guilty for getting distracted or even falling short in your thoughts, He is proud every time your mind comes back to Him.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Greater Yet

Steeped in the Word

June 7, 2025 – 6/07/2025

6 – The Flesh of Man

7 – The Spirit of God

When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! Matthew 6:7-8 NLT

Greater Yet

There is an arrogant, cerebral bunch who believe God is confined to their understanding of scripture. Not only is God not limited to our understanding of the scriptures, but He is not limited to scripture at all!

The scriptures even say that Jesus did all kinds of things not recorded in the Bible. The very last verse of arguably the greatest Gospel, John, says this: And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen. – John 21:25

In other words, God reserves the right to do tons of things not written down, recorded, or mapped out! The Bible declares that there are some things God speaks which He doesn’t allow to be written. They are for the hearer only.

And when the seven thunders had sounded, I was about to write, but I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said, and do not write it down.” Revelation 10:4

I would never advocate any form of departure from the Bible, so if I’m pegging your cringe meter, dial it down. I’m just saying you have permission to experience God in a personal, powerful way that is way beyond our limited understanding of scripture.

When the woman with the issue of blood crawled to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, or when the knuckleheads tore apart a roof to lower their paralyzed friend down to Jesus for healing, they were not acting within the confines of what was written. Their actions and their faith were off the map!

Awaken Your Spirit

Steeped in the Word

June 6, 2025 – 6/06/2025

6 – The Flesh of Man

6 – The Flesh of Man

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.” – Deuteronomy 6:6 NKJV

Awaken Your Spirit

God sees you. He knew you before the foundations of the world and He made a good plan for your life. He is invested in you and is helping you to reach your next level.

Are you ready for a true gem of wisdom? Here it is: the ministry you respect is the one that changes your life. It’s the one you will model yourself and your ministry after.

I would say my ministry at OpenDoor Church is a prophetic ministry. There is a lot of confusion surrounding prophecy and the prophetic. Many people believe those two words mean predicting the future. However, the Bible tells us what prophesy is and how it manifests.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not love, I am nothing.

– 1 Corinthians 13:2

Now, that’s something I want a double portion of! Come to think of it; I already do because the ministry I respect, the powerfully prophetic Gates of Glory Church and Pastor Howard Richardson, is the ministry that changed my life. It truly shaped me.

When I was a mixed-up 19-year-old at a tent meeting, Pastor Richardson pointed me out in the crowd and prophesied I would preach the Gospel all over the world. I didn’t know what to think about that word, but I knew when he said it, it would come true. You see, his prophecy over me was positive reinforcement that God saw me and had a real plan for me. While prediction can be part of prophecy, the main thing about prophecy is giving people wings to move forward. I can honestly say Pastor Richardson’s word over me strengthened, encouraged and comforted me. I have great respect for his ministry. It gave me a plan and changed my life. That might be why my ministry is grounded in the prophetic!

I hope my words strengthen, encourage, comfort, and edify you. How about you? What ministry do you respect? How has it changed your life?

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Grounded in FaithDeclare!

While I am still flesh and blood, my spirit has been born again in the likeness of God. Prophetic words stir my Spirit and call me deeper into Kingdom life. Holy Spirit, refine me and help me be a vessel for prophetic words so I can bless and encourage others.

God Is Rejoicing

Steeped in the Word

June 5, 2025 – 6/05/2025

6 – The Flesh of Man

5 – The Grace of God

“The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love, he will no longer rebuke you but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

God Is Rejoicing

For most of us, not only does the act of moving forward look like a train wreck, but the circumstances we’re stumbling through are even worse. It’s hard to believe God is happy with you when you’re in a place that does not honor or glorify Him.

Years ago, I was in the trash dumps of Matamoros, Mexico. It’s the ugliest, most despicable environment I’ve ever witnessed. It is filled with toxic trash because the good folks of Matamoros do not flush their toilet paper.

Inside this disgusting arena of waste and hopelessness were hundreds of beautiful families with thousands of kids living in slavery to the drug cartels. They owed money, and to pay off their debt, they dug in the trash for anything of worth to pay their note.

During one truly brutal summer day, I was handing out food and water to a long line of desperate people when I saw something that changed my life forever. I saw Heaven invade Earth. I saw the face of the Father.

A group of people started to cheer and clap. “What is there to cheer about in this Hell on earth,” is what I was thinking. I turned and saw a baby boy, filthy, with no shoes or shirt, taking his first steps. His mama was maybe 16, and the ground he was stumbling across was littered and toxic, but he was standing and taking a step. What captured my attention was not the baby but his daddy. This young father was so excited he began to celebrate and applaud, and when he did, everyone else joined in.

That’s what your Daddy God does when you decide to move forward. He is pleased even if you stumble and fall. He’s proud of your effort, even in the mess of your circumstances.

God expects you to struggle and make mistakes, so if you are moving forward — even in a mess — He will celebrate your progress. He doesn’t make you clean up or get your act together before you can move. So move! Your Father is there to applaud your progress.

Faith For Your Future

Steeped in the Word

June 4, 2025 – 6/04/2025

6 – The Flesh of Man

4 – Creation and Things That Are Made

There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all. Ephesians 4:5-6 NLT

Faith For Your Future

In Isaiah 59:21, God says that His covenant is with you and your children. It also says His words will never leave your children’s mouths. You can rest in this truth. Your blessing lasts long past your life. Really, it does.

Some of you reading this should be dead or in prison, or at the very least, dying of some addiction or disease. You should be miserable, without hope, without peace, and without rest. But you somehow knew you were meant for something more – something better – something holy. You heard the voice of God and followed.

You read the words of Christ and knew they were for you. How? Because you had a mama, a daddy, or a great, great, great somebody who loved the Lord, and that blessing has been passed down to you! That’s why the Holy Spirit is leaping with joy inside you right now.

You are saved. Because of a faithful family member, you were set apart for mercy. And because you are saved, your kids and their kids and their kids are also set apart for the Lord’s purposes. You might not know how to reach them for Jesus, but God does. Your covenant is extended to your kids! Oh, my goodness, there is hope in that!

If you have been fearing your kids will never get saved, have a right mind. Your kids are coming home. If God can save you, He can save anybody!

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” Acts 2:38-39

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

He Will Finish The Fight

Steeped in the Word

June 3, 2025 – 6/03/2025

6 – The Flesh of Man

3 – Perfect Completion

Then they scoffed, “He’s just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us.” They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him. Mark 6:3 NLT

He Will Finish The Fight

The battles you are going through today will be the stepping stone to the victories of tomorrow. Don’t let the enemy put a stranglehold on you, but persevere through.

In my day, fighting wasn’t a big deal. It was something guys did. Today, should a young man get in a scrap, he might be mandated to years of therapy chasing his inner child. My mind goes back to a terrible eighth-grade bully. Held back three years, he was a foot taller than me and had the IQ of cool whip. He seemed undefeatable. After several months of being his piñata, my history teacher and two coaches took me aside for a clandestine meeting. They wanted me to fight back. They showed me how to fight and encouraged me. My chance at redemption came, and I did what they taught me. I punched the bully in the nose. The beating that followed was classic in the annals of Joshua Middle School.

Another clandestine meeting. This time, encouragement and slaps on the back. “Way to go! You had him, Troy! Why did you stop? You should have kept punching!” I knew my teachers were crazy, and there would be secret meetings until I beat the brute.

In the end, I did put that bully down. I didn’t grow in stature. I grew in confidence through every terrible battle. I was no longer afraid of being beaten up. My resistance discouraged that bully, and he finally decided he didn’t want to mess with me.

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. – James 4:7

See, you don’t learn to become a warrior through victorious battles. Warriors aren’t born. They’re made through a long succession of defeats. It’s all about getting back up and going after victory again and again. In the end, we will all walk in the victory Jesus has won for us.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Saved and Set Apart

Steeped in the Word

June 2, 2025 – 6/02/2025

6 – The Flesh of Man

2 – A Faithful Witness and Being Set Apart

As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it. For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:1-2 NLT

Saved and Set Apart

Are you actively serving the Lord in your mind? Do you have honest and realistic mental boundaries concerning what you will and won’t think about? Do you set aside time for meditation on God’s Word? If you want God to do great things in and with your mind, the answer to those questions should be a resounding “Yes.” If you answered “No” to any of them, you’re opening yourself to an attack from the enemy.

Known as the “father of lies” and the “prince of the power of the air,” the devil wants to control the atmosphere of your mind. One of the ways he does this is to deceive you into believing your thoughts are harmless – that you can control them.

Remember, your brain has teeth. Your thoughts come back to bite you because they become your attitude, affecting your daily outlook. That’s why the Word tells us to think on things such as this…

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. Philippians 4:8

The Bible calls your brain “the loins of your mind.” This means your mind is a reproductive organ. The thoughts you think become your words and actions. If your thoughts are dark, you reproduce enemies who want to destroy you! A good example is pornography. Porn always leads to ugly words and actions, including child molestation and forced prostitution. Thoughts become actions.

I want God to move into the deep places of my thinking and the dark places in my mind. It is just as great a missionary journey and just as harsh and ruthless an environment. Have you asked the Lord to show you problem areas and potential snares in your thinking? You need to. You need to have a scripture for each trap the enemy sets so you can quote it back to him and send him and his lies back to the pit he crawled out of.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

My salvation is a treasure to me. Each day, I lay down my life – my mind, my feelings, and my will; I want to be saved out of all the darkness that is not from the Lord. Jesus gave me the power and authority to rebuke and cast out anything that tries to keep me from the fullness of what God has for me.

Steeped in the Word

“Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven.” Matthew 6:1 NLT

United Effort

America could use a shot of goodness right about now. Headlines are filled with government infighting, Hollywood elite stomping their feet like children, and special interest groups demanding their way. While it feels good to fight back, there’s something more effective.

It’s called goodness, and it’s a game-changer. The Bible tells us God is love and that He is a good Father. So, if God is so good, why is America and the world such a crazy place right now?

I’ll tell you why, and it’s the same problem our communities and families have: If there were a trial, too few Christians would be guilty of spreading goodness.

There’s very little goodness in most people who profess Christ’s name!

There is true power when the church is the good guy. We see the kingdom of God transforming lives, and Heaven invades Earth. So wake up, Christians! Pay attention, Church of America! Be known for what God loves, not for what you hate and want to judge!

You see, when the church, including its individuals, is the bad guy, that’s powerful too. The mob of hell forms and controls folks into thinking they are right and everyone else is wrong. Remember, Paul was writing to believers when he penned this verse, and it still rings true today:

“It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs at happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions and ugly parodies of community.” Galatians 5:19-21

Guilty of forgoing God’s goodness? If you’re suffering from a lack of goodness, repent! Change your attitude and actions so you can bring others to Jesus with the gift of goodness.

You can control your thought life and ensure the evil wolf starves to death.
et_pb_blurb"}">United Effort

Grounded in FaithDeclare!

I am grateful that Jesus gave me the greatest gift in the world: my salvation. Because I know His goodness, I want to be used by Him to bring the goodness of Jesus to those around me. I don’t have an agenda in my soul other than to give honor and glory to the only worthy King, Jesus!
