Grace for Birthright
Steeped in the WordMay 31, 2025 – 5/31/2025
5 – The Grace of God
31 – Offspring
I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, Lord, for you are a faithful God. Psalm 31:5 NLT
Grace for Birthright
About 2,600 years ago, there lived the son of Israel’s high priest. Like most PKs, his plan didn’t include the ministry. God showed up and changed that plan in a very big way.

While young Jeremiah’s daddy was famous in his generation, Jeremiah would be one of the most famous preachers who ever lived. We are still reading his words today. The reason I bring him up is because, at the beginning of the book of Jeremiah, he records something you just have to read:

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

– Jeremiah 1:4-5

God says, “Don’t you try to tell me who you are not. Let me tell you who you are! You are mine and I’ll prove it!” God then points out two pieces of evidence.

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. That means before there was ever a plan on earth for the making of Jeremiah, there was a plan in heaven for what he would do and an identity for who he would be. God took the formation of Jeremiah very personally, just as he does your child. Know this: God knows your child the same way.

Before you were born, I sanctified you. To sanctify something means to mark it. God marks us with holiness. Holiness literally means to be set apart for God. Any time Jeremiah wandered from God, he would feel it. He would yearn for God.

Moses did. He woke up one day after 40 years of living with the devil himself and realized he was on the wrong team. He knew his identity was not with Egypt.

The same thing happened to you, didn’t it? While you were in the world getting drunk, high, prideful or defeated, there was something inside you that said, “I was not marked for this.”

You can trust God that while your child was being formed, He marked your baby so that, sooner or later, one way or another, Jesus was going to win that precious life. Count on it. Prepare and pray for it.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Jesus-driven thinking helps and heals. This is what the Bible has to say on the subject: For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. – Romans 8:6

The Cherokee nation knew it, too. Check out this spot-on tribal tale:

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life. He told the boy, “A terrible fight is going on inside me. It is a fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and self-doubt."

The old man continued: “The other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.” He then told the boy, “This same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute, then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The wise old chief replied, “The one you feed.”

What wolf have you been feeding? Just know the wolf of evil thoughts will eventually devour you, and likely others as well. Thoughts become actions, and there is always collateral damage.

That’s not you! You can control your thought life and ensure the evil wolf starves to death.
et_pb_blurb"}">Grace for Birthright

Grace for Upgrades
Steeped in the WordMay 30, 2025 – 5/30/2025
5 – The Grace of God
30 – Acts of Redemption and Accomplishing Priestly Service
I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.
John 5:30 NLT
Grace for Upgrades
Everybody wants an upgrade, but most of us can’t handle a quick upgrade. Take Saul for instance. He was made king instantly, but when things happen quickly, you have to surrender your heart to God quickly too. That didn’t happen with Saul.

He was invited into radical upgrade and while he embraced the perks (a palace, an army, riches, beautiful women), Saul was not willing to conform his life to God’s way of thinking and moving. It ended up costing him his crown, his family and finally, his life.

There are several places in the Bible where forward happens “in a moment,” “in the twinkling of an eye” or “on that day.” BOOM! The difference between the long and winding road the Beatles sang about and the “suddenlys” that can happen for all of us, is our willingness to change.

Notice what the Word says about the famous day everything changes from temporal to eternal.

“…in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” – 1 Corinthians 15:52

That is the greatest suddenly and upgrade of all, known as the Rapture of the Church. Instantly, God will miraculously give us the power and grace to change.

After these things, I looked and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, “Come up here…”

– Revelation 4:1

Grace for Miracles
Steeped in the WordMay 29, 2025 – 5/29/2025
5 – The Grace of God
29 – Mountains
But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.” Acts 5:29 NKJV
Grace for Miracles
Several years ago, a man named James King woke up on a Wednesday morning with a word and a mission. That word? “God is going to help me find that little girl today.”

The girl was Nadia Bloom, an autistic child who had gone missing without a trace four days earlier near an alligator infested swamp. Police and rescue workers had given up hope of finding the child alive, saying they needed a miracle.

They got one that Wednesday afternoon. James King dialed 911 and said, “I’ve found the missing girl, Nadia.” The chief of police said, “If I never believed in miracles before, I do now.”

The details of the “Miracle in the Swamp” were broadcast worldwide, including King saying, “God led me to her. He told me to recite Proverbs three and call out her name.”

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. – Proverb 3:5-6

“That’s what I did, and I found her,” he told the national media. Nadia’s dad added, “Let’s give the glory to God.”

I know another King who searches for and finds lost people. This King is also a miracle worker willing to go where nobody else will to rescue the hurting and save the lost. This king is actually the King of Kings, and I know Him personally.

In whatever swamp you find yourself sinking in this week, call out to the King who can save and redeem. He wants to pull you out of the mire and clean off the grime, setting you on the correct path.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

It’s Time to Ask
Steeped in the WordMay 28, 2025 – 5/28/2025
5 – The Grace of God
28 – Times and Seasons
Because they do not regard the works of the Lord, Nor the operation of His hands, He shall destroy them And not build them up. Blessed be the Lord, Because He has heard the voice of my supplications! The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him. Psalm 28:5-7 NKJV
It’s Time to AskFor years before OpenDoor Food Bank became a reality, my family and I had a route through the backroads of Johnson County to take food to over 70 needy seniors. These people were so grateful and happy to see us. One woman always met us at the gate and only let me hand her the bags over the chain link fence.
Me, being as subtle as a meat cleaver, finally asked what the problem was. She turned beet red and said she was too embarrassed to have anyone in her home. Her roof had leaked badly for over 20 years and caused her floors and walls to rot.
While I wanted to tell her, I could round up some guys to come in and fix the problem, I knew better. Instead, I asked her if we could pray for God to do a miracle. She said she felt silly asking God to fix her roof when so many other people needed bigger or more important things. Hmmmm.
She was a really sweet old lady with good intentions, but that line of thinking had kept her from being blessed for a very long time. I told her she needed to get over that feeling and ask God to provide, and pray we did.
That week, I made arrangements for manpower and supplies and was excited to tell her about my plan to fix her roof. Saturday rolled around and as we pulled up to her house, my eyes nearly bugged out. It was an entirely new house!
She came running out through the gate to hug me, excited and full of life. She was so grateful to God for answering her prayer.
She said the city was putting up a new telephone pole a few days after I left. It crashed through her roof and damaged the walls and floors. Being an election year, the mayor didn’t want the bad press of making a sweet old lady homeless. By Friday, she had new framework, floors, walls and a new roof.
For the first time, I saw the inside of her house – the house God built. We blessed her and the house with prayer and thanksgiving.
When I look back on that miracle, it seems to me that God had been waiting for years to give that woman a new roof. It never occurred to her to ask because she underestimated God. She thought He would see her roof as trivial. How it must have hurt our Father to know she assumed He considered her unimportant. She was wrong on both counts.
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives, and he who seeks, finds and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, He will give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know who to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in Heaven give good things to those who ask Him! – Matthew 7:17-12
When the Good Book says, “you have not because you ask not,” God’s not kidding. He wants to provide and He’ll do it in some crazy cool ways.
Grounded in FaithDeclare!God knows the desires of my heart. It is His good pleasure to give those things to me. Nothing is too great or too small for me to go to my Father with. Nothing.

Steeped in the WordMay 27, 2025 – 5/27/2025
5 – The Grace of God
27 – Things Unveiled and Revealed in God’s Presence and Light of Truth
He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. Ephesians 5:27 NLT
See! Goodness Reigns!
Take it from me, there is really nothing impressive about evil. Pol Pot, Hitler, Stalin, Idi Amin, Gaddafi, Sadam Hussein – they are all part of a long list of tyrants who’ve played demonic roles in history. They are evidence that man’s basic condition is the same as it has always been.

The heart is desperately wicked; who can know it? – Jeremiah 17:12

Yes, man’s heart is still deceitful and in need of a savior. There is nothing impressive about that at all, is there?

From a kingdom perspective, evil is just something to be judged and executed. Jesus doesn’t want us to be impressed with it, or give it power through fearing it. Instead, He wants us to overcome it with good.

Take Idi Amin for example. The cruel Muslim dictator overthrew the government and turned Uganda into a Muslim nation despite only six percent of the population agreeing with him. His favorite target? Christians.

Amin set about exterminating Christians while the world watched and did nearly nothing. The torture chamber under his palace is notorious for the truly demonic ways he killed God’s children. Instead of oohing and aahing over his evil deeds, take a look at the result of his hatred and malice.

Despite Amin trying to stamp out Christians, his persecution caused the church to grow. Yes, the church in Uganda is thriving. People are being educated, fed and blessed in incredible ways because the Ugandan church has been a light in the midst of darkness.

As for you, what you meant for evil, God meant for good. – Genesis 50:20

It’s impressive how quickly goodness reigns over destruction because God is the master of turning things around for good. What’s truly impressive is the goodness of God in the life that is redeemed and set free. We should be impressed, stirred and just plain blown away by goodness.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, John 5:26 NKJV
Beloved Memories
The childhood years of my friend Seth Ricketts were filled with G.I. Joe and green Army men. He wanted to be a soldier as a little bitty guy and never grew out of it.

Seth grew up, and on September 11, 2001, watched in horror along with all of America as thousands of his countrymen were forced to jump to their deaths as the World Trade Center towers crashed down upon them.
Seth signed up on 9/12. Destiny called, and true to form, Seth answered. He said he was going to protect his country and keep that kind of thing from happening to his family. Over the next nine years and five tours of duty in the Middle East, his family grew to include his wife, Rosie, and three kids – the loves of Seth’s life.

Grounded in FaithDeclare!I am grateful for those who bravely fight for good in the world and remember those who sacrificed their lives for others. This day I will know that our grief is eased by the hope we have in eternal life because of Jesus. I am reminded to love well my beloved family and friends, and those God puts on my path.

Steeped in the WordMay 25, 2025 – 5/25/2025
5 – The Grace of God
25 – Grace for Grace
Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Galatians 5:25 NLT
Grace Filled Life
Evan Dando is the most famous music star you have never heard of. Dando was the lead singer of the 90s band the Lemonheads, which gained wide recognition for its 1992 cover of “Mrs. Robinson.” The handsome son of a fashion model, Dando, fit in well with the Hollywood A-list. People magazine listed him as one of the top 50 “dishiest people,” whatever that is.

With his album selling millions and Dando’s dreams coming true, the fast lane of superstardom turned on him and the next 15 years were full of drugs, breakups, scandals, failures, and disappointments.

Around 2005, he emerged from his fog and made a comeback with the Lemonheads. In an interview with a major magazine, Dando was asked what it was like to kiss Angelina Jolie. He responded, “You would have to ask Brad Pitt.” To his amazement, the interviewer told him that he had spent an afternoon kissing the Hollywood icon in one of his music videos.

Dando was so miserable with the life he was living, he not only missed everyday experiences, he even missed the most extraordinary happenings, like locking lips with one of the most beautiful women in the world. I think this is like you and me.

I believe in curses and blessings, and a common curse is when you ignore your marriage because you miss single life. Or you miss single life because you are married. A lot of people hate getting up in the morning because they want to be retired. Then, when they are retired, they want to go back to work.

You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Psalm 23:5 NLT

The same thing happens with nature or the words of a song or sermon. All of a sudden, God is talking just to you! Something clicks within your soul. It moves down to your spirit and you “get it.” Supernatural revelation!

Now, revelation is not given just to add another wrinkle to your brain. God doesn’t care if you know about Him. What He wants is for you to know Him through personal experience. So, revelation is an invitation to step into what God says can be.

He invites you to take a step forward in His great plan for you. Revelation is the key to unlocking barriers so you can move forward in life and relationship with Him.

And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

Awe of His Wonder
Steeped in the WordMay 22, 2025 – 5/22/2025
5 – The Grace of God
22 – Personal Revelation
Have you no respect for me? Why don’t you tremble in my presence? I, the Lord, define the ocean’s sandy shoreline as an everlasting boundary that the waters cannot cross. The waves may toss and roar, but they can never pass the boundaries I set. Jeremiah 5:22 NLT
Awe of His Wonder
There is no way God can be big in your life without you getting small. A great question was asked more than 3,000 years ago in the book of Job: “Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his maker?” – Job 4:17

The answer is a clear and resounding, “No!” God has set things up so man shall not be more anything than Him. We just can’t despite our desperate need to control our own lives and those around us.

The famous French philosopher Voltaire often spent his wasted life and expensive ink expressing his contempt for God, God’s people and His Word. When he so arrogantly wrote that his words and philosophies would soon be more important than the word of God, Voltaire got God’s attention.

About 200 years ago, this genius wrote this prediction from his library in Paris: “In 100 years, Christianity will be but a vanishing memory.” HA, HA, HA! Just a few years after his death, that same library where he penned those arrogant words was purchased by the British and Foreign Bible Society and was filled from floor to ceiling with thousands of copies of the Bible Voltaire so hated.

The makers of the Titanic learned this same lesson. They declared “even God couldn’t sink this ship.” Their glory turned to shame as their unsinkable vessel became unsavable.

The lesson? You and I can never be more anything than God, and would we really want to? Like I always say, “You see their glory, but do you know their story?”

God’s story isn’t all glory. There is a lot of pain, loss and sacrifice in being God. I suspect it’s not a great job and maybe that’s why He so jealously guards it – He’s protecting us from it. He loves us too much to see us constantly crushed under the weight of what we can never bear.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Grounded in FaithDeclare!I stand firm and remember who I am and who I’m not. God made me for a specific purpose, and He guides me and keeps me on track. When I stay still and quiet I hear His voice.
