The sound of the narrative #amwriting
I like this technique! I read mune aloud on the screen or have several pairs of eyes take a gander.
Reading aloud is a great way to quickly discover the places I want to revise. I have always read portions of my work aloud, a page or two at a time. The places where I stumble are usually always the places that need ironing, so to speak.
In the past, I have only gone to this trouble with sections that I felt had some indefinable thing wrong with them. But lately, I’ve been printing out each chapter in its entirety a day or two after I finish writing it, trying to hear where the prose doesn’t work. I use a yellow highlighter on the places that feel rough.
I’m a slow writer, but I have several looming deadlines for contests and anthologies. This seemed like a good way to speed up development, getting short stories from rough draft to finished in a timely fashion.
As anyone who regularly reads this…

I need your vote!
OK, Cid and Billy are really the ones who need your votes…on their hair!
Which looks best on them? Cid is the blue/black hair and Billy is the ginger.

Back in the mix…
To celebrate my top blog posts of 2018, here’s #5, the re-release notice of Love by the Numbers and For the Heart of Phillip

Thrown a curve ball…
Hello all! How are you this lovely weekend? Here in the great midwest it is almost 60 degrees and sunny out. So naturally I’m indoors soaking up TV and cuddles with my cat. LOL
This week has been a rollercoaster ride for sure. Not one of those kiddie rides either, mind you. Nope. This is the scream-inducing, stomach-turning type of ride that you crave when you’re either 16 or not quite 54″ tall.
My new job (it’s been a month)…has just now gone to part-time hours, cutting my pay in half. It wasn’t a lot to begin with, but now half of little is very little.
To add to the fun and excitement, my husband goes under the knife in two weeks and I’ll be pulling in most of the income for us both. Fun! He’ll be out for almost three months. (and anyone in HR or benefits knows that Short and Long term disability don’t pay squat)…you only get 60-80% of your pay.
Therefore! It is now my duty to 1. find a 2nd job 2. find a new, higher-paying job with actual full-time hours or 3. reallly ramp up the book promos, art, crafts, anything I can sell to earn $ just until April.
April, we’re clear. But until then…I need ideas from my fellow creators. Which works best for you?
Blog income? Affiliates?
Patreon page with rewards?
Etsy store with handmade items?
Ebay auctions to sell old items?
I’m WIDE open to ideas as I have two weeks to really figure this out.
I welcome any and all feedback
Rainbow Snippets January 5th
So far 2019 is turning out to be a challenge…but I’m up for it!
I’m posting again from This Time Around (which is a rework of Refugees which is the sequel to For the Heart of Phillip). Drama was everywhere in the first book; but it’s been tamed in this volume, which follows Robert and David’s journey after things didn’t go as planned in book one.
FYI: The scene from last week mentions Robert’s father, Mark, had gone after Phillip. This scene is played out in the book prior to this, For the Heart of Phillip.
This book is now available only at Amazon
What is Rainbow Snippets? It’s a group of LGBT+ authors who post six sentences (or more) from a current WIP, published work or even something they’ve read that they want to rave about. Click on the link below the rainbow to be transported to a place of wonder where you will find tasters of everything from sweet romance, to hot and steamy, to fantasy and sci-fi.

To set the stage: (spoiler alert)!!! In the first book, Robert and Phillip break up and David and Andrew break up.
We continue this week with the focus on Robert and what he does after he left Phillip. Robert’s father, Mark, had gone after Phillip, leaving Robert in his mother Cassie’s care:
She nodded and looked up into his eyes. “I sure hope you’re right, honey. I know how your father is. If someone’s wronged him or any of us, it’s personal.”
“I know.” He glanced at his luggage on the bed. “Well, better get unpacking. No way will Phillip change his mind and invite me back. He’s probably over at Andrew’s right now, making up with him.” His eyes teared up, but he haughtily brushed them away.
This book is now available only at Amazon

Don’t Have Enough Time for Your Blog?
I love this
I struggle with topics for my blog and hence…procrastination.
Legend says that lack of time is the number one cause for headaches. So if you’re feeling this pressure too, rest assured that you’re not alone.
But lack of time does not have to be an excuse for a lack of progress on your blog.

Adaptability. I wouldn’t have gotten through these past years without it.

Jumping Through Time
I like flashbacks. Especially to explain odd behavior or abuse or something else.
A story can include one of two things: flashbacks or skipping to the future. We don’t think recommending the two is a great idea but if executed cohesively…sure! Why not! Let’s discuss.
Sometimes, writing flashbacks can help a story flesh itself out. Readers understand the plot better, the character better, ANYTHING! But what happens when a flashback becomes more than a flash back? Meaning, what happens when a brief moment takes up a whole chapter? Is that acceptable? There isn’t any reason why it shouldn’t be acceptable – other than not being written properly. Make sure flashbacks are quick and easy. They’re meant to be memories triggered by people or items or occurrences surrounding the character or plot. Here’s an idea: it doesn’t necessarily have to be written in the perspective where the character is brought back to a moment in time…but rather, induces a feeling, an…

Thank you for hosting me!

This January Blog Tour is being hosted on Show some love for M/M Books Blog
SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM S. L.
Danielson
Thank you for reading my stories. I aim for realism and usually, a
happy ending. I love drama, angst, all the fun parts of young adulthood (or not
so young). My goal is characters that stick with you (even if they don’t with
each other).

BLURB
Can two lonely souls finally get a second chance on getting it right?
Robert can’t believe this has happened again. His heart is in tatters, all
because of his once-again ex. Out of pure frustration, he takes matters into
his own hands and gives boxing a try. All he gains is an injured hand, which
needs the attention of a physical therapist. David is overwhelmed and his heart
is in denial over the sudden…
