The Only One Holding You Back Is You
Absolutely true! I have a bad case of writer’s block and the only one who can break it is me.
The last half of 2018 was one of the most difficult periods of time I’ve ever endured as a creator.
I woke up and went to sleep angry and frustrated almost every day. I knew I was not in a creator-friendly environment. I was still learning how to be a parent (to a puppy). I was mentally and emotionally drained almost constantly. Making room for writing became more of a chore than a pleasure.
And over and over — I have the journal entries to prove it — I blamed my failures and took my frustration out on everyone else. Everyone except myself.
For some reason we get into this habit of blaming our problems on other people. And many never learn to take responsibility for their failures, shortcomings, and struggles.
“I would have written a book by now if my wife were more supportive.”
“I want to start a…

Rainbow Snippets January 19th
I’m posting again from This Time Around (which is a rework of Refugees which is the sequel to For the Heart of Phillip). Drama was everywhere in the first book; but it’s been tamed in this volume, which follows Robert and David’s journey after things didn’t go as planned in book one.
What is Rainbow Snippets? It’s a group of LGBT+ authors who post six sentences (or more) from a current WIP, published work or even something they’ve read that they want to rave about. Click on the link below the rainbow to be transported to a place of wonder where you will find tasters of everything from sweet romance, to hot and steamy, to fantasy and sci-fi.

To set the stage: (spoiler alert)!!! In the first book, Robert and Phillip break up and David and Andrew break up. This is the start of Chapter 3
David’s first few evenings at the clinic were quiet, except for the first one. He was unpacking his office when he ran across a picture of himself and Andy. He glared at it and gritted his teeth. All of the pain and humiliation, which were still too fresh to talk about, made his heart beat faster and his rage come to bear. “You lying…drama queen! You bitch!” He ripped the photo from its frame and after he tore it into a dozen or so pieces, he tossed it into the trash.

Which decade of your life was the worst?
So last night I was reminded of just how bad things were in my life a decade ago when I was in my mid 30s. It was a very rough time and I would never go back. It got me to thinking if I had the chance would I repeat them? The answer is a resounding no.
How about you? Which was your worst decade and why and would you ever repeat it?A lot of us have crazy childhoods and there can be a very stressful firstdecade or two. However adulthood has its own adventures and can lead to some of the worst years of our lives.
Personally for me my 30s were the worst ever. I was in a crazy marriage which had constant struggles between medical, financial, family, death, job issues,

and mental anguish. I wouldn’t ever choose to relive them.
On the flipside, my 40s have been far and above what my 30s were. They’ve had their ups and downs but so far so good.
How about you? Which was your worst decade and why and would you ever repeat it?

Draft to Digital…books coming soon!
I finally scratched this one off my to-do list…it’d been shoved down after procrastination after procrastination. I have no idea why except for stress and fatigue have me out of my usual element.
All excuses aside, on a day where during the night I was awoken no fewer than six times…I’m finally feeling good. So…out comes the to-do list!
The site itself is quite easy to navigate and I’m thrilled that I get to preview each format and even add a little bit of style to the pages themselves.
So far I’ve subbed ‘Cid’ but will add more if the demand is there (Ice Fairy anyone)?
My re-dos will definitely be on there too.
Once I have the link live, I’ll post it here.

Our first major snowstorm has struck…now to get outside and make snow sculptures! What do you do when snow hits?

FYI: The scene from last week mentions Robert’s father, Mark, had gone after Phillip. This scene is played out in the book prior to this, For the Heart of Phillip.

To set the stage: (spoiler alert)!!! In the first book, Robert and Phillip break up and David and Andrew break up.
We continue this week with the focus on Robert and what he does after he left Phillip. Robert’s father, Mark, had gone after Phillip, leaving Robert in his mother Cassie’s care. This completes the scene.
His mother rubbed his arms. “Anything I can do?”
“No, Mom. Thanks. I’ll be alright. Got a lot of unpacking to do. Go be with that adorable little brother of mine.”
She pursed her lips and kissed his cheek, leaving a tinge of red behind. “If you’re sure, sweetie. I’m glad you’re home again. Missed you.”
“Missed you too, Mom. Just wish this whole thing wouldn’t have happened. I should’ve spared myself.”
They both nodded. Cassie walked out the door and Robert turned to face his task of unpacking.
Not long after he tore into his task, a car door slammed outside. Flustered, Robert met his father at the front door. “Why did you do that? I can stand up for myself!”
“Really? What he needed was to get a right hook in the jaw! No one treats my son like that. I don’t care how old you are.”
He knew his father’s heart was in the right place, even if his sense wasn’t. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. His nerves made him fidget so he shoved his hands into his pockets and cocked his head. “So, what happened there, Dad?”
“Nothing, don’t worry. No one got hurt, as much as I wanted to pound that smug asshole’s face into the floor for you!”
Robert rolled his eyes and groaned. “That wouldn’t have helped. I’m glad you didn’t get arrested!”
“Oh, he knew better than to do that! I’m glad you’re here, boy. You don’t need to be around that family.”
His lower lip trembled and he met his father’s blue eyes. “Thanks, Dad.” He found himself encased in a bear hug.
“We love you, boy. Nobody does that to my son.”
Cassie shut the door, cleared her throat and joined the hug. “I agree. Come on, it’s time for dinner.”

One last time, one more warning to avoid getting caught
Great info!
And hopefully, we can avoid all the weird crooks in cyberspace.
I’m adding one more, and fingers crossed the last warning about fraudsters. Of course, someone, somewhere will find a new angle to try and part us from our hard earned money. And often the target is a writer. Sigh.
It’s a nasty business that requires us to stay vigilant against people who wish to make a buck by crushing our dreams. Don’t let them succeed.
Writers everywhere, this one included, are setting New Year’s resolutions to publish a book in 2019. However, there are people out there who wish to impede your success. Yes, you heard right. Scammers are rehashing, reworking and launching new attacks with old tricks. Stay alert. There are fraudsters who prey on your desire to publish.
Don’t become another statistic.
A grateful shout out goes to Anne R. Allen for an important article filled with information…
