Rainbow Snippets January 10th, 2021

After this week’s events in our nation; anything I have to add wouldn’t be worth two cents. There are no words for what happened there. I’m sorry for those who lost their lives and I am relieved this is all over soon.
On the lighter side of life; hubby and I found out the true not-so-fun experience of shopping for cell phones. So far we are three days into this fiasco and ended up switching carriers after finding out only the ‘new kids’ get the cool offers. Dopes.
Here’s my snippet for the week: (see below)
This week I pick up after the performance is over and Billy and Erik are alone in the garage.
What is Rainbow Snippets? It’s a group of LGBT+ authors who post six sentences (or more) from a current WIP, published work or even something they’ve read that they want to rave about. Click on the link below the rainbow to be transported to a place of wonder where you will find tasters of everything from sweet romance, to hot and steamy, to fantasy and sci-fi.
I”m changing gears completely and going to a beloved co-authored work and a series of Upstaged. Written by myself and Cheryl Headford (Nephy to some) in 2012! Over the course of two years we wrote 12 books together! It was the most insane, wonderful time of my writing life! We hope you love the result. The first four books are published and up for sale at Extasy Press and on Amazon. Here is book #1. Upstaged: Opening Act
Blurb:
Wannabe singer and band front man Erik Von Nordgren hates snarky brit Asher Berkley with a passion. From the moment he turns up at practice with his twin sister Daisy, who is one of the band the two have hated each other.
Through a series of ‘tit for tat’ incidents they annoy, frustrate and exasperated each other. The die hard goth with purple eyes and the hard core rocker with dreams of the big time have nothing in common and no need to cross paths. Except to wind each other up.
Until the day that Erik throws Asher in the school pool, when everything begins to change. Erik is so far in closet he’s in Narnia and Asher has a dark past and trust issues that stand in the way of any relationship, let alone one with the brash American who hurts him every time they try to get together.
A relationship doomed from the start, or so you’d think.

An awkward silence fell between them.
Erik scowled at his friend. “Did you tell him anything?” His tone was accusatory.
“About what? I’m sworn to silence if you recall, you asshole,” Billy snapped back.
“Fuck, well, maybe he just wanted to make an ass of me.” Billy shook his head. “That ain’t too hard.” He ducked a swat. Erik loved to take a swipe at him. “I dunno, but I swear on my life I didn’t say a thing to anyone. Not even my parents. You think I’d rat you out? Hell no! I’d rat myself out first.”

Thank goodness, we made it to 2021! After what was a hellacious year for most…we are now (hopefully) on the slide towards something better. I really, truly hope so.
All in all, things weren’t terrible for my family. We did celebrate birthdays, holidays, and welcomed three new family members. We still have jobs, and a roof over our heads and food to eat (most of it sugar). LOL.
Writing-wise did not pan out the way I wanted it to, but my career in the ‘real’ world took precedence and demanded extra training (and schooling). I produced nothing new, but that by no means indicates I’ve stopped being a writer. All things will happen in good, due time.

“Right, man. You’re the boss.” Billy clapped his best friend’s shoulder.
The touch almost burned, and Erik twisted away violently.
“Get off me, Billy. Go beat your damn drums.”
Guilt wracked him the second he saw Billy’s shocked but pained expression. The teen blinked and scowled back at him. “Whatever.” He hopped back up on stage with one huge step and fell silent.
After everyone else had gone, Billy and Erik were in the garage alone. They’d packed up their gear and paused to examine the damage on the garage wall.
“That’s nothing. Just say it fell during a surge or something,” Billy suggested.
“Yeah, I guess.” Erik snorted. “That kid is gonna get me in so much trouble.”
An awkward silence fell between them.
Erik scowled at his friend. “Did you tell him anything?” His tone was accusatory.

Merry Christmas and Seasons Greetings to all! Sorry I’m late to the party, but I was on leave all last week and Ms. Migraine showed up….oyyy. No drumming allowed. Only light gaming and lots of sleeping.
We did make it to my parents’ house and celebrated with them and close family. It was a terrific time

I’m back again! It’s been an eventful two weeks to be certain. Thanksgiving was terrific; despite having only a small gathering, we still made the best of it. The following day I felt especially gumptious and took off on a short road trip (not too far) but I wanted to visit a friend of mine that I’ve been promising to go see forever. So…I did. It wasn’t too bad…except for having to do homework during the trip and my recreation (Steam) wouldn’t load on my laptop.

Just a few days to go until we gobble down some turkey either by ourselves or with family by our sides.
Sorry I’m missing so many weeks…school is biting me in the arse…a bad math class. I hate math. Always have. Once you put letters and numbers together it’s bad news.
So, where did Erik leave off? He’d just been kissed by the ever so un-subtle Asher and despite himself…he’s having a reaction. One he cannot show or wants to show.

Not only had their demeanors relaxed, so had their inhibitions. They’d evaporated, in fact, to where they had not only kissed, but had given each other their first time, and a few more times beyond that.
Erik’s mind flooded with images of those days when they’d lived for their sleepovers—how buzzed they’d been, how good they felt, how right Billy felt in his mouth and his arms… It had started to go beyond just the physical, to something he couldn’t handle. There was a ton of baggage there that he didn’t want to think about anymore. Then this fucker kissed him…shit. He shuddered and forced his mind back to the present. That was his and Billy’s secret only. No one on earth needed to know he was gay. Like fucking hell they’d find out now.
“No. I’m not all right. Shit!” He glared at Daisy, daring her to have an excuse for her twin’s infuriating behavior. He stood back from the group. “Whatever. He’s just a prick trying to make a fool of me. Fine. Two can play that game.”

Now we’re cooking with gas, as an old pal of mine used to say. The election is (seemingly) over, now we can get to work on the holidays!
Sorry I missed last week; my homework is eating up a lot of my free time and I do not like it! One teensy bright spot? I managed to eek out a short story for a contest. I do mean short too, 900 some-odd words…but it was something. Anything. It felt good to finally create something again!
So, where did Erik leave off? He’d just been kissed by the ever so un-subtle Asher and despite himself…he’s having a reaction. One he cannot show or wants to show.

“I’m off, Dais. Can’t stand the boredom. Give me a ring when you’re ready to be picked up. Try not to die of excitement in my absence.”
Erik watched him go, stupefied and still frozen to the spot. He suddenly became aware of the unnatural silence around him. Reality crashed back and crushed him under a wave of panic. What the hell had he done? A warm hand landed on his shoulder, and he looked down into Daisy’s face.
“Sorry, Erik. He can be such a prick. You know he didn’t mean it, right? I promise you.”
“Are you all right?” Billy asked. His tone was genuine concern and one he didn’t want to deal with right now. Their eyes met briefly. They had a history of their own beyond friendship. Like the times they’d smoked joints in his room. Not only had their demeanors relaxed, so had their inhibitions. They’d evaporated, in fact, to where they had not only kissed, but had given each other their first time, and a few more times beyond that.

Six days to go until Halloween…is it possible? This year will be completely different…who’s doing the costumes and trick-or-treating by slingshot?
Time marches one for us. Our anniversary is in a smidgen of days and as a true testament to lack of time, I chose, bought, and wrapped both gifts. Wow. Maybe next year we can put more time and effort on both sides.
As for the story, let’s continue with this first memorable interaction of Erik and Asher and the aftermath of their first kiss.

Asher’s lips were so soft, not even the chill of his lip ring could take away from the searing heat of the kiss. Erik’s demeanor softened, and he uncurled his fist in Asher’s hand. Other parts of his anatomy stood up and took notice, too. He prayed nobody in the band saw that. Especially…well. No. No one was allowed to see.
All too soon the kiss ended, and Asher broke contact with a loud smacking sound. Erik stood in silence, his mind whirling while he retreated. His mouth opened and closed as he fought for words, but before he could utter any of them, Asher’s cool hand patted the side of his face in an almost patronizing manner, and with a cheeky wink he turned. Walking away, he called over his shoulder to his sister.
“I’m off, Dais. Can’t stand the boredom. Give me a ring when you’re ready to be picked up. Try not to die of excitement in my absence.”

Erik’s lips hung open, his eyes wide when he saw his fist in Asher’s much smaller hand. His attention was caught and held by a surprisingly calm glare. Funny, he’d never noticed Asher had such weird eyes. Words escaped him as he fell into the scintillating beauty of the teen’s violet gaze. They were beautiful, haunting…and pained.
Erik paused, his breath taken hostage by the moment. A strangled cry escaped him when, in another blindingly unexpected turnaround, Asher kissed him. He wanted to pull away at first, especially since they had an audience, yet he didn’t. Some part of him wanted to stay. Asher’s lips were so soft, not even the chill of his lip ring could take away from the searing heat of the kiss. Erik’s demeanor softened, and he uncurled his fist in Asher’s hand. Life is good. Kitties are crazy yet furry and sweet; Jack has a new sensor so we can read his glucose at our leisure now too. Work is fine, albeit a bit harsh on my neck, back, and eyes, but such is the life of an accountant.
