Happy Sunday to one and all! We are having fun with storms in our area…not so much rain, but the humidity is stifling. I wear glasses and when I go outside I instantly become enshrouded in a fog…

Work blew by once again, but it gave me enough down time to write out my to-do list for the weekend. Bless dear hubby. I’m so impulsive and he’s so planned. I literally put my hands up in defeat when it came to reorganizing the back room once more and let his ideas be first in line. So far so good.

What is Rainbow Snippets? It’s a group of LGBT+ authors who post six sentences (or more) from a current WIP, published work or even something they’ve read that they want to rave about. This week is my final with one of my more dramatic works…Complications. First written in longhand in 1999.

Blurb:

Josh is a family man, a good doctor and a man in love… with his best friend. All is well until Greg discovers how he feels. Sadly, he doesn’t feel the same way.

Heartbroken, Josh finds love elsewhere, with Glenn, a much younger man. They have a whirlwind romance, until one flawed decision threatens to tear them apart forever.

With all the complications in his love life, will this doctor find a cure to mend his broken heart?

Greg scooted away and licked his lip. He tasted blood. He faced his attacker and scowled. “You bastard! You know what you can do? Go fuck yourself because I hate you too! Piss off!”

“Fuck you too!” Josh refocused his anger. He dove towards the man and straddled him angrily.  The former best friends wrestled fiercely on the rocky shoreline.

Greg managed to push Josh away and returned a punch to Josh’s eye.

“Get off me! Get away from me and stay the fuck away from my family!”

Josh was about to strike him again but his emotions caught up with him as he watched blood trickle down Greg’s handsome face.  Shit, what the hell was he doing?  No matter how hurt he was himself, he couldn’t hurt Greg like that anymore.  He was being a selfish bastard. Damn it.  He released the grip on Greg’s hands and walked off into the bushes.

Free for the moment, Greg quickly gathered up the car keys. After a half-hour, Josh reappeared. His blood was dried but his sleeve had a streak of vomit on it from where he’d wiped his mouth. Josh wordlessly climbed into the back seat of the car as Greg slipped into the driver’s seat and drove them home in complete silence.

Eeeek! Where do they go from here? This is my last post for this book (for now)…what do you think will happen?

Happy Fathers Day to you and yours if it applies. For me, I have my dad whom I adore and worry about even more since his hospital visit earlier this year. Also, my husband, whom I share no biological human children with, but our kitty, Jack, is our baby and so of course, he’s a dad!

This past week blew by fast! I told my drum teacher didn’t I just see you five minutes ago? He smirked and we went about the lesson of getting me to all four limbs doing their own, proper things. That’s much, much harder than it sounds.

“This is how I feel about your say!” Josh punched him squarely in the face, knocking him down.  His hurt and anger about everything boiling up in him–the loss of his wife and family, the loss of Greg.  His life was in turmoil now, and Greg’s rejection threw him over the edge.  The loss of everything, everyone he cared for in his life was devastating. “That’s how I feel! I hate you!”

The words shocked even him as they caught their breath and felt the words on their lips. Josh fell to a whisper as he sobbed into his hands. “I hate you! I hate you for being my friend all these years, and I even hate you for turning down the chance to work with me!”

Greg scooted away and licked his lip. He tasted blood. He faced his attacker and scowled. “You bastard! You know what you can do? Go fuck yourself because I hate you too! Piss off!”

Happy Flag Day to all and of course, happy Pride Month! June is one of those months that can be hot, cold, wet, dry, or all of the above in the same week. Here in the Midwest it’s hot. Not super hot, but hot enough to keep me indoors, but the wasps find me there too.

Tis June at last…we are nearly halfway through this oddball year. Whew!

The new plants are doing nicely so far and the colors are a welcome change to just greenery. Now to wait out the heat and the inundation of bugs. Blegh. I dislike both intensely.

As a final note, I would like to pass along my thoughts and condolences to the victims and their families. I don’t know what the answer is but I hope we wake up and find it.

Greg watched his friend pack up their gear and put it in the trunk. “So this is all my fucking fault? Just because I can’t sleep with you?”

Josh shook his head. “Just leave me alone, Greg.”

Greg wasn’t going to get anywhere with him like this right now. He wanted to back off, but he couldn’t bring himself to leave certain things unsaid.

“No I won’t leave you alone, not like this. Not after this huge elephant in the room is between us. Let me just sum this up so we’re speaking the same language. You took our friendship, which has been great for over a decade and stirred it up because you finally got the balls to tell me that you’re gay!  Not to mention the bonus of you being in love with me.” He shook his head and held up his hands. “Hey, help me out here. What am I supposed to do? Just give in or give up? Is it that cut n’ dry?” “It’s not that simple. I want you, or I did. You hurt me too! I never should’ve taken you out for that damn drink. Never!”

This is running in viscous circles to be sure. Their friendship has been altered at least; and put in jeopardy. All because of the admission of love.

Raise your hand if you think May flew by…zoooooooooooom!

From face masks and quarantines to now more unrest and craziness with violence in the world. Sighhh. Everybody please just stay safe, ok?

We stayed at home this weekend (I did ) for the most part save for a couple of short errands. Some much overdue yard work was done and finally some flowers added! I’m so excited

I’m beginning to think my job title is the Pro of Procrastination. I keep putting off everything…to play my games, be with my cat, and my husband. Sigh.

Luck be upon me! Twas granted a reprieve of going back to work in the ancient workplace I call ‘home’ during those 40 odd hours per week. I don’t want this quarantine to end; I like being here. All the time. Truthfully! Now, to find a remote gig after this is finished and maybe a different house so I can have a separate office too.

Tis the merry month of May…the middle of it already? It’s going quickly. Between work, gaming, schooling, and home life; not even quarantine life has slowed much.

I go back to work (in a physical building besides my home) just after Memorial Day. I’m not looking forward to it, at least on most counts…but some I am. Being with kitty all day is great, until he’s ill or whiny or I want someone else to talk to who’ll talk back at my level. Social media is OK for some of that; but I’ve noticed a marked drop in my ability to hold and carry a conversation in real life due to isolation to one person that I speak to on a regular basis. Ah well…just biding my time until I’m moved to my next job anyway.

We made it at long last! The 300 days of April (or so it seemed to this author) are finally done. Did it seem that way to anyone else?

With a fresh month on our pages and screens; I’m looking forward to new beginnings, closing old deadlines, and the daily opportunities of life. How’s that for vagueness? haha…To be specific…I start classes again tomorrow (yay); I have two books that I need to finish (one with writing and the other with edits); plus life here in the Midwest is always a crap shoot of weather and life. You never know what the next storm system will roll into town.

Josh is in love with his bff Greg, but Greg doesn’t feel the same way. The problem? They’re both married…to women…with kids. Now the wives know too.

“I’m sorry, but I’m not in love with you, though I almost wish I could be. But as honest as I can be with you, I’m just not! I’ll be your friend and confidant, but not that!”

“I know, I know!  I just–… “Josh bowed his head and looked away from his friend. He stood quickly and walked away a short distance but within two minutes he was back. Greg reached out his hand. “Josh—“

“No,” He mumbled. “Just don’t, okay?”

They sat in silence as Greg fixed a lunch of hot dogs and salad. Josh stood up and walked over to a wooded area roughly fifty feet away where he sat and sobbed audibly. Greg heard him and poked a twig at the dirt angrily; wishing he could comfort his friend more, but knowing that it would make it worse. Finally, after a few minutes, Josh joined him again.

Well that didn’t go well. The heart wants what it wants and when they answer is no; it goes into a tailspin.

Happy Sunday everyone! We had a very rainy couple of days so I hope we dry out a little bit before the next round of water falls from the sky. My hubby and I planted lots of seeds for flowers that I hope will grow and bloom to draw butterflies and bees.

Greg pulled away slightly. “What are you getting at?  That since you’ll be single, you think we can now hook up?  Sorry, dude. I’m not into you like that, or any other guy.”

Josh scowled and stood up. “Whatever. Look, I told you everything. I’m in love with you, and I’m going to be single again. My love for you isn’t something I can control.”

“I’m sorry, but I’m not in love with you, though I almost wish I could be. But as honest as I can be with you, I’m just not! I’ll be your friend and confidant, but not that!”
