Nine special days this Monday!
Did you know any of these existed? I sure didn’t…
When I look at my calendar, I only see the once-in-a-while holidays; and that’s all well and good…but have you heard of the other holidays? The special days that deserve their spot in the sun?
Besides that, they make great fodder for including in writing. Do you use any ‘odd’ holidays in your creations?
Here are nine to enjoy today, Feb 24th:
Forget Me Not Day…not sure if this is for the flower or the general vibe, but good either way.
International Pancake Day – February 24, 2020…I can definitely get behind this one! National Cupcake Day (Canada) – February 24, 2020…for our friends to the north, I hope you have some great cupcakes! National Dance Day – February 24, 2020…breakdancing? Electric slide? What’s your favorite? National Tortilla Chip Day…pull up a side of gaucamole and dive in! National Trading Card Day …I saw these as a kid for baseball..maybe pull out the Pokemon ones?
Play More Cards Day – February 24, 2020 (Last Monday in February) …bring back Rummy!! Shrove Monday – February 24, 2020…I think this is Pre-Shrove Tuesday prepping? World Bartender Day…raise a glass to your favorite drink jockey who’s seen you at your best (and worst).

It’s a sunny Sunday at last! It’s a nice change of scenery and mood since I’ve spent the weekend being ill (food poisoning)….ughhh. My husband took wonderful care of me and we’re both praying for a healthy rest of this year!
Yesterday I watched so much TV it’s ridiculous; but today I got back to knitting and my long-neglected phone welcomed me back with open apps.

Can two lonely souls finally get a second chance on getting it right?
Robert can’t believe this has happened again. His heart is in tatters, all because of his once-again ex. Out of pure frustration, he takes matters into his own hands and gives boxing a try. All he gains is an injured hand, which needs the attention of a physical therapist.
David is overwhelmed and his heart is in denial over the sudden departure of the man he was in love with. As he tries to piece his life back together, a patient needing therapy walks into his clinic and the attraction is immediate; but the desire is not.
Can these two finally find a good relationship that will last and work this time around?

David grinned. “I guessed that pretty quick after you said ‘boyfriend’.”
“Oh. Right.” Robert blushed and cleared his throat. “I just ended a really bad relationship.”
“I’m sorry to hear that. Were you two together long?”
“Since I was 16, but we didn’t really start dating until college. We were almost kinda engaged once, but it didn’t work out. Holy crap it’s been a decade I’ve known that guy? Unreal.”
David met his gaze straight-on for the first time since they’d met. “I’m sorry.”
Robert smiled at him. David sounded sincere. “It’s fine, at least now it is. How about you?”
“Oh no ya don’t. We’re talking about you.” David reminded him.
Shit. Yes they were.
Now maybe they can talk?

Happy Sunday! The weather is blah, all rainy and cold. I wish it were snow! Oh well…I still hope for a few more storms during this winter.
Right now I await my brother to come over and help me eat a huge lasagna that I’m currently baking up. It’s one of about five dishes I actually know how to make and don’t need a recipe.

GRL Bound!
After having been an ‘official’ author since 2008, I’m finally going to go to a convention for authors of my genre! I’m so excited my brain hasn’t stopped fantasizing yet over meeting new people, getting to showcase a couple of my books, etc.
This isn’t the 1st time I’ve wanted to go, mind you. I wanted to. A lot. I had reservations made, and talking to people about it; but what stopped me?
Money Fear
That little green paper that rules our lives. Idiotic, huh? Yet…that was the main reason. However, there was another one…and it ties with the first one. Fear.
Yup, fear. Believe it or not writers of my genre (and romance particularly) get the short end of the stick. We’re not taken seriously, we get eye rolls, gasps, a chuckle, or just a shake of the head. Even my own family doesn’t understand it. Alas…here we are. This is who I am, this is what I write. I don’t want to write anything else!
Plus the fear of bosses, coworkers, etc seeing my out of my ‘day’ persona….I suppose to be free and myself. I really truly hope I can be like that at this convention.
So…who’s going with me? Or will you let Money and Fear stand in your way?
I know a few of my fellow authors will be there already; I hope to meet you all!

Happy Palindrome Day! Plus Groundhog Day too. What a difference a week makes! Last week I was hauling arse to get my hubby to the ER and today he’s still coughing but much better. Thanks to all for the well wishes!
So did your groundhog see his shadow? I personally believer it’s six more weeks of winter (which is fine for this snow lover)…yes, yes. Throw the rotten tomatoes at me. I love snow! Most people aren’t sure how to drive in it (apparently) or refuse to believe that anything can slow them down. Fine…see you on the traffic report from Waze. Dodo.
I’ve made a big decision (and geography and a stable gig have my sincere thanks) that the GRL Retreat will be in The Lou this year! Yup, a quick hop, skip and jump through what’s left of the highway and I’m there. I’m so excited!!! I’m on the wait list to see if I can go as an author, but even if I’m not, I’d love to meet some of my fellow authors!

“Yeah.” He didn’t want to go home just yet. “I…thanks.” He looked into the beautiful eyes of his therapist and smiled at him. “This helped.”
“That’s why I do this. I love to help people feel better. Take care, Robert.”
“You too, David.” He made himself gather the therapy items and walk out the door.
Two Days Later: Robert arrived for his appointment. He’d had a tough day at work and he had a tough time concentrating. He’d found a few photos of himself and Phillip that set him off inside. He was half-way to either crumpling up into a ball and crying or finding the punching bag and finishing the job on his hand. Fortunately, he chose to just go to therapy.
David greeted him with a cheerful smile, but he had a tough time returning it.
“How’s the hand tonight?”
“Uh, not good. Hurts.”
“Let’s see what we can do about that. Hop up on the table.”
As David prepared to help him, Robert looked his handsome therapist over. He was tall, and strong, and smelled good. His shirt was open and let the little blond hairs peek out again. Sigh.
“So, what’s got you down tonight?” David asked.
“Huh?” Robert stammered. “Oh, just life I guess. Relationship troubles.”
David nodded slowly. “I know how that goes.”
Robert’s attention jumped to his caregiver. “Oh? You’ve dealt with the boyfriend from hell?” He gasped a little. Maybe he said too much, just admitting he was gay right off; but to snap at David wasn’t necessary.
Yikes! Just let it all, Rob. He’s in pain and I don’t blame him at all for blurting it out to the 1st available ear.

Oy…flu has struck our household! Hubby coughing, fever, chills, aches. The works. Tamiflu not much of a help, so on Mucinex DM, rest, water, etc. Please send him good juju and pray I don’t get this horrid virus.
Otherwise, work fine, life fine, drumming good. All else falls away when my beloved is ill.

David clapped Robert’s shoulder. “Hey, no worries. That’s good for the first time! You sprained your hand pretty bad; it’ll take a while to heal the damage.
“I should charge all of this to Phillip. Fucker. He pissed me off.
“Keep trying and every day it’ll get easier, ok?” David finished with a grin. “Now, let’s get to your exercises.”
Robert nodded and put the putty back into its container. He picked up the sheets of exercises and looked them over. “Let’s do it.”
After their session was finished, Robert felt better; at least on the outside. David was very attractive, kind, gentle, and a little funny. They’d cracked a couple of one-liners but beyond that there wasn’t much conversation. He missed it.
“Two days?” Robert asked as he hopped down from the table.
David nodded. “Yes. I’ll see you then, ok?”
“Yeah.” He didn’t want to go home just yet. “I…thanks.” He looked into the beautiful eyes of his therapist and smiled at him. “This helped.”

Trivia tidbit:
In 1998 I was in physical therapy for my knees. The PT was named David. He wasn’t nearly as hot as this David, but he was a very patient and nice guy.

Happy Sunday! I’m in the middle of my long weekend (have tomorrow off for MLK day). Work is fine, and family is too. I’ve been singeing on kitty time, gaming, Hulu, some hubby time, and drumming.
The weather was a little crazy Friday but we missed the big part of the worst of it. Whew! It could’ve been a very nasty ice storm. I’ve had enough of those for one lifetime!
In other news, I’ve started a new story and have a few others that just need a few more chapters until they’re ready for the red ink of the editor. Wish me luck!

David cocked a brow. “Oh? Things a little stressful in your day job?”
“Just a little.”
“Let’s get those tendons soothed. I’ll be right back.” David left and Robert sighed. He kept his hand elevated and his lips sealed. His heart was broken and his mind was a muddled mess.
After a long couple of minutes, David returned with several sheets of paper and a small pack of colorful putty. It was bright green and looked like the dough he’d play with as a child. He had a memory of pushing Serena’s face into a large puddle of it and laughing his ass off.
“What’s this?” he asked.
David put the papers down. “These are your exercises, which I want you to do every night for a week.” He held up the container. “This is therapy putty. It starts out soft but as your hand gets stronger I’ll change it out for tougher putty.”
Robert eyed the green goo. “What do I do with it?”
“I’ll show you.” David took it out of the container and rolled it into a ball. “Here, put this in the palm of your hand and press each finger into it one at a time.”
His curiosity piqued, Robert did as instructed and he smushed the ball into his hand. It felt cool and soft but wasn’t gooey at all; for which he was very grateful. He bent his index finger into the putty and made a small indent.
“Good! Now the middle finger.”
He strained a little and found he had to grit his teeth and close his eyes to try to concentrate harder. He made a tiny indent. After he opened his eyes, Robert groaned. “Damn.”
David clapped Robert’s shoulder. “Hey, no worries. That’s good for the first time! You sprained your hand pretty bad; it’ll take a while to heal the damage.”

We are still fresh into the new year and now my job is kicking into higher gear. For those who don’t know, I work in the accounting field. I’m not a CPA, but there are other items that occur only at year-end (like 1099’s) that need to be done and are a big time commitment.
In other news, medically I’ve filled up about the first four months of the year with some sort of appointment or the other. Eyes, GP, ears…oy. The list could be huge given the gamut of specialists out there. Luckily, I don’t need that many. (yet).
Drumming is a workout for my arms and my recently-wounded shoulder. I take it a little easy when going after the floor tom or ride cymbal, but so far so good.
