Be a Bookshop NOT a library

Why?

Well, if you’re a library, you operate on a borrowing limit, on borrowed time and people might not even return.

Plus they forever see you as FREE

When you are a high-end bookshop though, people always covet every publication you have.

They’re lurking checking out all the covers.
They’re buying piles of books.
And if you’re a bookshop with a cafe, then they’re staying even longer for a hot drink, some cake and a darn good book.
If you have book signings, then customers are queuing up at your door.

And THAT’s the magic key right there.
They are QUEUING UP FOR YOU.
They are BUYING FROM YOU.
They are PAYING YOU.
And they come back for MORE.

Wanna learn how to be a bookshop and not a library.

My mentor Bushra is running the ultimate entrepreneurial challenge called 60 Minute Business Challenge where she will create not one, not two, but FOUR brand-new businesses from scratch, and have them launched and ready to sell out in just 60 minutes.

And one of those businesses could be YOURS!

This is your chance to learn the psychological hooks, templates, and brain triggers that fuel a multi-million dollar business.

Plus you will walk away with everything you need to go from no idea to SOLD OUT BABY.
All in under 60 minutes!

Here’s your free pass to her challenge.

Become the 1%

In 2002, a survey shared in The New York Times, found that 81 percent of people surveyed wanted to write a book. Looking at a number of surveys over the years, I discovered that of those who say they want to write a book, only 15% actually start. And, of those that start, only 8% actually finish.

To put this into numbers that are a bit easier to understand, if you start off with 100 people, 81 want to write a book, 12 will start, and 1 will finish. Therefore, only about 1% of the population will publish a book.

That’s why being an author sets you apart. That’s why being an author boosts your authority, increases your influence, and differentiates you from others in your field.

And if you choose to write a short book, you accomplish this more quickly.

By sharing your unique perspective and insights in a book (short or otherwise), you can create a distinctive brand identity that sets you apart from competitors.

I hope that this week’s series of posts have given you some light-bulb moments and kindled a desire to write a short book for your business. If so, you’ll be happy to know that on Monday, I’ll share a series of four posts that give you some solid tips on how to write that short book.

But, if you’d like my help, apply for one of the 25 seats in the Authority Building Short Book Jumpstart workshop.

Establish Authority with Short Books

What does it mean to establish authority?

In essence, establishing authority is about gaining the trust and respect of others through a combination of knowledge, experience, communication, and personal branding.

One short book can do all that, but a series of short books can take your authority to the next dimension.

Let me explain.

Yesterday, I described the showcasing knowledge piece, by writing a short book that solves a focused and specific problem. What I didn’t mention is that while your book is doing that, it is also sharing your experience through case study examples or other communication techniques.

When created strategically, your short book is also an expression of your personal brand. It communicates your values and unique methodologies, illustrating your singular approach to solving client problems.

But one short book can only showcase your expertise on one thing. But I know you aren’t a one-trick pony. So, what you really need is a *series* of short books that are related to each other. Once you have four or five of them, you can even sell them as a boxed set!

Do that, and you are now an authority in your field. Even if your ideal clients only read one book in your series, the fact that you are a multi-book author makes an impression. Look at any of the big gurus – Gary V., Timothy Ferriss, Frank Kern, Seth Godin – and you’ll find that they all have more than one book under their belt. And, whether those books are a series or not, they all are related to their expertise and brand.

The beauty of accomplishing this through short books is that you can do it fairly quickly. And that leads me to the last topic in this week’s series – differentiation, which I’ll be posting about tomorrow.

And just in case you were wondering, I’ll be sharing how to strategically create a client-attracting short book series in the Authority Building Short Book Jumpstart workshop. DM me for details.

Elevate Your Expertise with a Short Bo

Series 1 of 4 (Why short books), Post 2 of 4 (Demonstrate Expertise)

Have you ever had to listen to a speaker who droned on and took forever to get to the point?

After having to stay awake through that, did you consider that person an expert on their topic?

Probably not. Why? Because they didn’t get to the point, and they filled their time slot with irrelevant fluff.

Well, that’s how some long books read. But a well-written short book doesn’t give you enough room to fill it with fluff. You have to follow Sgt. Joe Friday’s mantra: Just the facts, ma’am.

When you do that, your short book not only demonstrates your expertise, but it also demonstrates your ability to communicate your expertise well.

And in today's crowded marketplace, that makes you stand out from the competition and establish yourself as a trusted authority in your industry.

Writing a short book requires focus, so you are forced to communicate what you do and how you do it in a concise manner. When you do this well, you provide your readers (ideal clients) with practical tips and solutions on a narrowly focused challenge (related to a bigger problem) that they can apply in real-time. This leads them to seek you out to gain access to your expertise to solve their larger issue.

Additionally, a short book can establish you as a thought leader in your industry. By sharing your unique perspectives and insights, you can demonstrate your understanding of the latest trends and best practices in your field and showcase your ability to provide innovative solutions to the challenges that your clients face.

Of course, none of this takes place if your book isn’t read, which is a problem that longer books often face. A short book, that can be read quickly, can build credibility, and provide you with a competitive advantage. By demonstrating your expertise and succinctly showcasing your unique insights and solutions to a specific problem you help your clients solve, you can position yourself as the go-to expert in your field, which can ultimately lead to increased business opportunities and growth.

Now that you know that you can use a short book to attract ideal clients (yesterday’s post) and showcase your expertise on a specific problem (today’s post), we can move on to how short books can help you establish authority. I’ll be covering that tomorrow, so stay tuned!

And, if you’d like my help creating your own short book, apply for a seat in my new workshop: Authority Building Short Book Jumpstart. DM me for details.

Do you know who's cooler than a polar bear's toenails?

My mentor Bushra Azhar, that's who.

She's a business strategy and persuasion genius with more brains than the rest of us combined. And I think she’s a hoot and a half, to boot!

And the best part? She won't make you feel like you're stuck in a never-ending meeting from hell with too many egos and too little pizza.

Bushra has a way of making even the driest business strategies sound like a party - like spicing up a bland taco with some extra hot sauce.

Now for the big reveal: I'm teaming up with Bushra to bring you something totally out of this world! It's a combo of psychology, strategy, software, and speed... basically all the things that make the internet go round. And the best part? You'll be raking in all the $$$$$ in just 60 minutes!

But wait, there's more! This mind-blowing opportunity requires zero dollars from you. That's right, my friends. Zilch. Nada. Nothing.
If you're ready to get in on the action, drop the word 60 and I'll hit you up as soon as it's ready to go!

Why short books?

In today's fast-moving business environment, C-suite executives and entrepreneurs alike are often strapped for time. (I experience this, and I bet you do, too.) Lengthy books can seem daunting and may not fit easily into their schedule. They may purchase an ordinary-length book but may never get around to reading it.

If you’re using your book as a “big business card” to generate leads, this is bad news. However, shorter books (50-100 pages) offer a solution. And can do the job better than a traditional book.

Short books can often be read in a single sitting (the average person can read a 100-page book in less than 3 hours), making them an appealing choice for busy professionals who want to gain new insights and perspectives without having to devote too much time.

Imagine what would happen if it was YOUR short book that ideal prospect you’ve had your eye on decided to read.

Do you think they might be interested in having a conversation with you about how you can help them solve a problem you discussed in your book?

By offering a short book instead of a longer one, you're more likely to capture the attention of busy C-suite executives and entrepreneurs who may not have the time or desire to read a longer book. This can help you generate leads and book sales conversations more effectively and efficiently, ultimately leading to more business growth and success.

Sounds like a pretty good deal, right? Well, wait for tomorrow when I’ll be talking about how that short book can demonstrate your expertise efficiently and effectively, as well.

Announcing the March Madness Short Book Series

In a world where time is a precious commodity and the demands on our attention are greater than ever, short books offer a unique opportunity to gain visibility, boost authority, and increase influence.

Because my eBook Revolution series of posts did well, and because March is a month for madness, I’ve decided to regale you with four sets of four-post series on the topic of short books. Here’s my tentative schedule:

Week 1: Why you need a short book to take your business or career to the next dimension.
Week 2: How to write an impactful short book that attracts ideal prospects.
Week 3: What’s stopping you from writing a short book, and how to jump those hurdles.
Week 4: How to “get your book in the door.”

So, keep your eyes peeled … it’s going to be a wild and fun ride!
