The Rise of the Short Book

Have you noticed that short books that are 100 pages or less are becoming increasingly popular? From entrepreneurship and business to leadership and productivity, there seems to be a growing trend towards concise, focused writing in the nonfiction genre, but most especially in the business fields.

This rise of the short book could be due to a number of factors. In our fast-paced world, people may be looking for books that can be read in a single sitting or during a short commute. Additionally, busy professionals such as C-suite executives may appreciate the ability to quickly gain valuable insights and perspectives without committing to a lengthy tome.

With the growth of the gig economy and the increasing need for lifelong learning, many readers – most likely your ideal clients included – are looking for quick and accessible ways to gain new skills and insights.

If you are an entrepreneur, consultant, or fractional executive, writing a short book, can boost your authority, increase your visibility, and set you up as a thought leader. By distilling complex ideas from your expertise into their essential components, you can create powerful books that are concise, impactful, and build your influence.

It is clear that short books are here to stay. And they could be your key to taking your business, consultancy, or career into the next dimension.

What are your thoughts on the rise of short books? Let me know in the comments!

Dr. Seuss was a wise man.

Here is one of his pearls: "You have to be odd to be number one."

It doesn’t matter what's possible for others. It doesn’t matter how small the percentages are for success. And it doesn’t matter if you haven’t done it before.

The only thing that matters is WHAT YOU BELIEVE is possible for you. Be the 1%!

What do you believe?

I almost said “no”

I almost said “no” to one of the biggest opportunities I’ve ever had, and it would have cost me playing a bigger game.

And believe me, every bone in my body was screaming “no,” be practical, play it safe.

But I could feel that this one was different. That if I just said “yes”, it would be a game-changer for my business and my commitment to show up for my future self. And I was right!

In December of 2021, I took out a loan and invested in a program that cost five figures. Because of that program, I now am more confident in what I bring to the table, and I developed a unique system for diagnosing problem areas in author businesses. I even have software that helps me do that consistently and succinctly for every one of my clients. This has set me up to show up in a much bigger and, I believe, better way for my clients and potential clients.

When you’re willing to do something uncomfortable, it opens the door to new opportunities that will shape the rest of your life. And it shows others that they can say “yes” too.

What’s something that you almost said no to?

The three investments that are totally worth it…

You have to spend money to make money.

It’s cliche and overused by people who want you to buy their latest, greatest program. But it’s true…we have to invest in ourselves to grow.

Let me just say, I’ve been burned before. So, parting with my hard earned money isn’t easy. You too?

Luckily, there are some things that are worth putting some extra dough into. These are the top three business investments I have made:

1- Software that saves me time. If software can help me take back some of my time, then it is totally worth it. For me investing in Canva Pro and Jasper.ai fit into this category.

2- Books that expand my knowledge, skills, or mindset. Stephen Covey calls this “sharpening the saw.” Most recently, I particularly enjoyed reading “Embrace Your Weird” by Felicia Day.

3- Mentorship. In December, I hired a number of coaches to help me with different areas of my business, and because of that, I’m taking leaps forward that have taken me decades to accomplish before.

What’s the best investment you’ve ever made in your business?

Do this to feel better about yourself

Do the following:

1. Find a picture of a young you.

2. Look yourself in the eyes & say: I’m so proud of you for not giving up, for facing challenges, for moving forward & forging ahead because you wouldn’t be the YOU you are today without all of that. You are beautiful & amazing.
