Who inspires you?

I’m in the process of migrating my first website, CarmaSpence.com, to a new server and am taking the opportunity to update, re-home, and retire blog content. It is a walk down memory lane!

In a post from February 2008, I found a list of women business owners who inspired me on my entrepreneurial journey. I bet you’d recognize some of their names:

👉 Ali Brown – I discovered her in 2003 when she was the Ezine Queen because I was developing an idea I had for one. Through her, I discovered the whole world of online marketing.

👉 Lorrie Morgan – Her course on copywriting was the first one I took.

👉 Melanie Benson – Her Unstoppable Goals Method changed my life. And I go through the materials again every so often to make sure I stay on track.

Who has inspired you?

Life is tough, but so are you

Sometimes, the gap between where I am and where I want to be seems insurmountably huge. There are days when I just want to throw in the towel and settle.

BUT I know I'm made for bigger things. I tenaciously believe I can ... so I will!

Anyone else feel this way?

Failures Are Just Lessons To Be Learned

We all know failing is part of success – but picking yourself up afterward can be a struggle.

I definitely learned this the hard way after publishing the 2nd edition of Home Sweet Home Page. Even though it made it to the bestseller list on Amazon in 3 categories, it did NOT do what I wanted it to.

When these types of setbacks come around it’s important to have the necessary tools and mindset to help you bounce back.

Here’s what I learned from publishing a book that didn’t get the results I’d hoped for that might help you out.

👉 Write the right book. My business had changed since the first edition, and I didn’t think through how I needed to change the book to work for my new focus.

👉 Get the messaging right. When your message is not clear, readers will think you are giving them something you had no intention to give…resulting in the wrong people reading it and then leaving bad (and off-the-mark) reviews.

Mistakes force us to explore other alternatives.

Feel free to learn from my mistakes, and don’t be afraid to make your own!

BTW – I can help you avoid the mistakes I’ve made! Authorneering.com/schedule

The top 3 reasons I do what I do

Life is so short! Do you love what you do!

The English dictionary defines purpose as “the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.”

There are so many reasons we do things…maybe life took you down a certain path…or you have a family to care for…or a spouse or friend persuaded you…maybe sometimes you even look back and wonder how you got here.

Here are the top 3 reasons I do what I do:

1. I was born for this. I fell in love with writing (and seeing my name in print) when I was only 4 years old. A day without expressing my thoughts or creativity is either an unpleasantly busy day, or I'm sick and resting.

2. I love to shorten the paths of my clients. I went the long and winding road to get where I am today. If I knew then what I know now, I would have reached this point at a much younger age. Well, I can't time travel (although that would be so cool, right?), so I do the next best thing and help my clients get to their goals faster.

3. I love to teach. My father and his mother were both teachers, so I've had good role models. And I suspect, I've got some genetics working in my favor, as well. There is just something incredibly joyful that happens when I'm able to "download" my knowledge into another person so that they can fly off and do what they need and want to do.

The fastest way to ignite your passion for something is to remind yourself why you’re doing it. That will help you get through times when things don’t go as expected or take longer than you think. Just remember your WHY and keep working at it! You can do it!

What a difference a smile makes

Science says so! The act of smiling activates neuropeptides, tiny molecules in your brain that facilitate communication between neurons in your brain, and fend off stress, all while releasing dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin.

A smile can literally make you feel better. How’s that for some feel-good science?

Therefore, smile and feel your stress melt away!
