The meaning of the season

Carrie Fisher said this of the season: “I don't think Christmas is necessarily about things. It's about being good to one another.”

I agree. And I believe that kindness is a critical ingredient of a functioning society. And it’s not hard to do. You don’t have to like someone or agree with them to be kind to them.

Chasing the Fame Monster?

Thomas Bernhard once said: “"We publish only to satisfy our craving for fame; there's no other motive except the even baser one of making money…”

I think Mr. Bernhard is full of it.

Yes, most if not all, authors harbor a secret desire for fame, whether they care to admit it or not.

However, at least the people I work with, have a greater calling than that. They have a message and a mission to help others improve their life in some manner. And my mission is to help them achieve that goal. If fame happens along the way, it is just super-sweet icing on an already delectable cake.

If you’d like to explore what working with me to achieve your book-related dreams (whether that’s getting one out into the world or making one that is already out there do the work you intended it to do), message me.

A Good Book Isn’t Enough

Alas, writing a good book isn’t all you need if you want your book to grow your business. I have some of those, but they have nothing with what I do in my business! Therefore, my ideal readers for those books are probably not my ideal clients.

So, what do you need? You need a book that aligns with who you are, what you do, and what your ideal clients are looking for. That last part is key – don’t give them what you know they need, give them what they are searching for first.

Big things often come disguised as little things

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”
~ Robert Brault

The little blessings in life often add up to be big things. What little things can you be grateful for today? On my list are Oxygen molecules, cats, and light bulbs.

Follow Your Calling

We all have a unique purpose in life. Sometimes, we can find ourselves feeling confused and frustrated when it comes to understanding what that purpose is. But if you make the conscious decision to follow your calling and trust the process, you can discover a path that leads to true fulfillment.

For many, writing a book so that their message will be discovered and heard by those they were meant to serve, is an integral part of their calling. Perhaps you are one of them?

The problem is that although writing a book is simple, it isn’t always easy. There are plenty of potholes on the path to publication. And, sometimes you need to follow that path through a dark forest filled with Mind Goblins.
But don’t worry, it's okay to ask for help: Help with the process, help with the mindset, help with the myriad technical details.

Following your calling can be a daunting task but one potentially filled with great rewards! Believe in yourself along the way and don’t be afraid of failure—it is part of the journey! And remember that asking for help is perfectly alright! With patience and dedication, following your calling will lead to true fulfillment and success.

Stretch Out of Your Comfort Zone

Something I’ve seen many authors do, myself included, is not step up when they’ve got the goods and stay nestled within their comfort zone.

This is a real problem. It keeps us trapped within what we’ve always done, often expecting a different or better result.

Yes, it can be hard to lean into a bigger version of yourself. It is much easier to make excuses for why taking the leap is not worth our time and energy. However, remember that while taking risks may be daunting, they are necessary for us to reach success.

It’s natural to feel scared when faced with the unknown. It can be difficult to let go of our expectations and trust that things will work out—even if the outcome isn’t what we anticipated. But as authors and entrepreneurs, it’s important for us to push past our fears so that we can achieve success.

If you are hesitating to move forward with your book, here’s a tip to help you get over that hurdle: Focus on your goal for the book. Visualize where you want your book to be at the end of the day, week, or month. This will help you stay motivated and remind you why you’re putting yourself through this process in the first place.

Stepping outside our comfort zones can lead us closer to reaching our publishing and business goals. It takes courage but it's worth it—not only because successful outcomes might await us but because even failure teaches us valuable lessons about ourselves and how far we are willing to go for our passions and dreams!

If you are interested in moving forward past procrastination to create a true impact with a book in 2023, DM me.

Do you have any tartar sauce?

Zig Ziglar had a way with words. I love how he illustrated confidence, saying that it was “going after Moby Dick and taking the tartar sauce with you.”

When it comes to going for your dreams, do you pack along the tartar sauce? If not, what’s holding you back? (Don’t like white whale meat? LOL!)

The highest form of thought

“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.”
~ G.K. Chesterton

Do you agree with Chesterton that gratitude is the highest form of thought? Why or why not?
