I’m on a mission

"There is no writer’s block, no excuse that will substitute for butt in the chair."
~ Mary Kay Andrews, author of The Newcomer

Quotes like this really chap my hide. They shame the real suffering that takes place when you have writer’s block … and they assume this malady springs from laziness.

It doesn’t.

I'm on a mission to stop writer's block shame and misunderstanding. Who’s with me?

Is your book peerless?

To be successful – sell well, attract clients, get good reviews, and so forth – your book needs to be peerless.

That means it needs to NOT be a run-of-the-mill book that's like all the other similar books out there. You need to bring something to your book that is unique, different, and sets it apart.

There are several ways to do that, but my favorite is to bring your Geek Factor into your book because that's what makes YOU unique.

Acts of Kindness

People talk about core memories, and they are usually something poignant or steeped in meaning. But something that has stuck with me was a very simple act: Picking up a pen I had dropped on the floor.

I was in Junior High. That year, a group of refugees from Viet Nam began attending. They spoke no English and pretty much stuck to themselves. But they were the kindest and most polite people I had ever experienced in that school.

One day, at a general assembly, I ended up sitting next to them. I dropped my pen and as I scrambled to pick it back up, the Vietnamese guy sitting next to me picked it up and handed it to me. In that moment, I felt like I mattered.
At that time in my life, I was very unpopular and bullied quite a bit. And yet, this young man treated me with respect and kindness.

And I’ve never forgotten.

Never underestimate the effect you can have on someone else’s life.

What is an act of kindness someone showed you?

How do you show up?

“No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.”
~ Regina Brett - US Journalist

Does anyone actually do this anymore? Or are we all slobs now, spending the day in loungewear if working from home or even the PJs we slept in? (I DON’T do the latter by the way.)

I am mostly in mix-and-match knit solids accented with a colorful scarf kind of gal. Judge away!

I feel Regina would have been super disappointed in me.

Show me how you dress up and show up (no birthday suits please, I’m of a sensitive disposition).
