Amplify your reach with partnerships

Do you know someone who has an audience that includes your ideal prospects? Wouldn’t it be nice to get your expertise in front of that audience?

With a book, you certainly can!

There are the usual ways that people talk about: Being a guest on their podcast, writing a post for their blog, or doing some sort of joint venture where you both win.

But here are a couple of ideas that only an author can do, and only an author of a short book can truly afford to do:

The first is to offer to add your book or book-related event as a bonus for one of their offers. This is a great value-add for the influencer because it increases the value of their offer. And it is seen as generous, especially if you are providing physical copies of your book or your time without payment because it comes at a cost to you.

The second, which can take some funding and planning, but can have a strong return on investment, is to offer to send copies of your book (digital, or if possible, physical) to their audience as a “thank you gift” to their subscribers or followers. The influencer is the one that looks better in the eyes of their audience members, but you get the exposure that you would not have received otherwise.

Of course, you need to choose the right partners and have the right book, but these two strategies could very well take your business to the next dimension.

Be prepared

Imagine if you will, you are at a live workshop or conference, to learn some new skills. As the people at your table get to know each other, it comes up that you’re an author. Someone asks you, “What’s your book about?”

You tell them and one, possibly more, people at the table say something to the effect of, “I should read that.”

What do you do? Tell them it’s available on Amazon? Give them the link to your website?

Those are options, and perhaps they will remember to pick up a copy of your book later.

But what if you just happen to have 5-10 copies in the trunk of your car or a few copies in your briefcase? Do you think you could sell a few copies? If these people are ideal clients, could you simply gift them a copy?

Now, these prospects have your book in their hands, and they are spending time with you. If this is a multi-day event, they may even read the book and ask you questions about it before you leave.

Do you think you could convert at least one of those people into a paying client?

Of course, you can!

And that’s the strategy. It is simple: Always have a few copies on hand that you can hand out when you meet an ideal prospect.

When you do this, you are always prepared. And you never know when you will meet an ideal prospect. I’ve heard stories of meetings with not only ideal prospects but prospects the person had been pursuing to no avail, at all sorts of locations:

• A memorial event
• A charity event
• The grocery store
• Walking the dog at the park
• Unrelated conferences and conventions

Since short books are pretty inexpensive to get printed, they are a perfect loss leader that you can hand out to a prospect. And, if they ask you to autograph it, make what you write something personal. You’ve now lifted your perception in their eyes.

Engage your prospects with a virtual event

People love to engage with authors and go beyond the book. And, if you’ve already written out your unique insights and perspectives in your short book, why not re-use that information to create a virtual event that goes a little deeper into the topic, shares the information in a different way, or provides your prospects with a higher-touch experience?

You can use your book as the inspiration or basis for a 3- to 5-Day Challenge or a two-hour Masterclass. This type of event not only showcases your expertise but also can be a great way to engage prospects and build excitement about your book.

The steps are simple:
1. Develop the topic for your event using your book as the source or inspiration.
2. Invite your ideal prospects to the event.

The results of such an event can include book sales (which lead to sales conversation), and sales conversations (which lead to new clients).

If you want to get your foot in the door with a busy prospect and make a lasting impression, the best way is to give that prospect a physical copy of your book with a handwritten note that is tailored to that individual.

Why this level of personalization? Here are 7 reasons that physical books with handwritten notes can get busy prospects to pay attention to you:

A physical book has these qualities going for it:

1. It makes an impression: In an increasingly digital world, a physical book can stand out as a unique and unexpected gift or marketing tool, which can leave a lasting impression on the recipient.

2. It commands attention: A physical book may command more attention from the recipient than a digital book, as it requires more effort to read and engage with. This can make the book feel more important and meaningful.

3. It is tangible and feels more permanent: A digital book is ethereal. Sure, you can read it anywhere that you have a digital device with the book loaded on it, but what happens when the power goes out? A physical book is tangible and can be held and touched, which can create a sensory experience that a digital book cannot. This can make the book feel more real and valuable. The struggle is REAL
