Hidden Gems
Believe it or not,I’m actuallydoing something I never thought I could do. I’m working on two very different projects at one time.
So far, I’ve been able to transition between the two each day by separating them with a walk (helps clear my head) and a shower. It may also help that one involves actual writing, the other more plotting…but I’m doing it.
For Writing Thursday, today, I’d like to ask you some questions about setting.
First, a little background: In my Amish Mysteries, the stories are se...

Enter, The List
I think I’ve mentioned here before that I function best if I make lists. Yet, despite knowing this, I rarely make them. Which is why I, suspect, my productivity has been running short.
Anyway, as luck would have it, attending a mystery conference like I did over the weekend has the added bonus (above meeting readers, seeing readers-turned-friends, face time with my agent and my editor, publisher and agency parties, etc.) of re-igniting my motivation.
I know some of that increased motivation com...

The Reading Life
When I was young, my favorite reading material was the Little House books. I read all of them multiple times, although the first four or five (minus Farmer Boy) were my favorites.
I also read Nancy Drew, with the Hidden Staircase sticking out most in my mind.
My first Mary Higgins Clark book found its way into my hands when I was fourteen, igniting my love of the traditional mystery. I plowed through all the books she had out at that time and was the first in line on many launch days to buy the...

Malice Recap
I’m back from my annual pilgrimage to the Malice Domestic Mystery Conference in Bethesda, MD and what a great time I had.
The fun started the moment I picked up my friend and fellow author, Maggie Barbieri, and we hit the road for the 4 1/2 hour drive.
Within moments of walking into the hotel lobby, we were off and running for dinner with friends. Friday brought more time with readers and a dinner with my publisher (oh my…).
Saturday brought one on one meetings with both my agent and my editor,...

Bits
I’m at my favorite mystery conference this weekend and popping in with some bits & pieces for all of you.
1) Favorite dessert of all time?
2) Where do you wish you were right now?
3) Do you prefer your hotel room to be warm or cool?
4) What award do you think you would be a contender for (in life, hobbies, whatever)?
Have a great weekend, everyone!

And…It’s Not There
Are you up for a little writing assignment today?
You’re a kid. On Christmas morning. Waiting for a particular toy (your choice). You don’t get it.
Write one paragraph from your kid’s perspective. Bonus points for making us laugh!

Tried and True
Sometimes, I find myself thinking of expressions or comments my parents made during my youth–things that didn’t really make sense because I was a kid. Yet now that I’m an adult, wow, I get it.
I remember, vividly, my mom saying, “I’ve been running around like a chicken with my head cut off.”
Kind of a weird one, I know. When she’d say it, I’d just think, “ew.” Now, I get it. I always feel as if I’m going a hundred miles an hour (two hundred this week).
I also remember my mom talking about never...

From Book to Movie on Your Say
What one book have you read that you would LOVE to be seen made into a movie?
And, for an even tougher question, who would you cast in the main role (s)?

It’s An International Thing and I Don’t Get It
Last Monday, my amazingly sweet friend and fellow author, JD Rhoades, appeared on my Facebook page asking me to participate in an International Blog Hop. Someone tagged him, he tagged me.
Anyway, I’m supposed to answer four questions about the way I write, post a picture of moi, a picture of mylatest book (with a buying link) and post it to my website and facebook page on Monday, April 28th…which is today. I, in turn, will invite three more authors to do the same on their own website blogs nex...
