Gettin’ Back At It
Since I got back from this year’s Malice Domestic Mystery Conference in the beginning of May, I’ve been a writing machine.
I wrote a proposal for a new cozy mystery series.
I’ve been writing (almost every day) a women’s fiction novel that my brain has been begging me to write for way too long…and I’m about a week away from finishing the first draft (woot! woot!)!
And I’ve been spinning out guest posts for when TAKEN IN (book 9 in the Southern Sewing Circle Mysteries) debuts next month.
Suffice it...

That is all.

Anticipaaaation
Like Leona Elkin, in my Southern Sewing Circle Mysteries, I can’t sew.
Unlike Leona, I don’t read travel magazines. I read fiction.
Top on my must-read list at the moment?
I’ll give you a hint. I’ve been waiting for this booksince I finished the last one in the series. And finally (thankfully), the wait is o-v-e-r.
Heading to my local Barnes & Nobleas soon as I finish my writing for the day!
Can’t wait to start reading!!!!

Recappin’
I had a nice weekend. Nothing major in terms of “holiday activities,” but nice…
The kids and I had a Despicable Me marathon on Friday, interspersed with an appetizer dinner and fresh-from-the-oven cookies. Saturday we got some much needed (and much despised) weeding done in the front yard and visited with some family in the evening. Sunday, my DH put my new exercise bike together for me (I handed him things), I got annihilated in three different games by my youngest (Rummmikub, Disney Sorry, a...

Seven Writing Tips
For today’s Writing Thursday, I thought maybe some tips would be fun. If you’ve ever entertained the idea of writing, these tried and true ideas might help.
1) Read. Read. Read. The more you read, the better you will write.
2) A book can’t write itself. If you want to write, you have to write. So sit down in a chair for 30 minutes a day and write. Thirty minutes is a TV show. Sometimes you’ll find yourself in such a good flow by the time the 30 minutes is up, you keep going (always a good thing...

My Mentor
When I went off to college, I knew I wanted to be a writer. And while my true passion was to write fiction, I knew I needed to do something that would pay some bills. So I veered off in the direction of journalism…
Interestingly, I didn’t attend a journalism school. I chose, instead, to go a bit broader, majoring in communications with a concentration in marketing (I guess, even then, I knew it was smart to keep my options open).
As a result, my “journalism” classes were pretty nil.I took writi...
Pass The Popcorn, Please
So last night was our inaugural “Summer Monday Movie Night” with the kids. We popped some popcorn and rolled out Saving Mr. Banks.
If you’ve not seen this movie, it’s lovely. Truly, lovely. It has its funny moments, itssad moments, and lots of poignant moments, too.
Personally, I’m a huge Tom Hanks fan, so the fact he delivered my favorite line in the movie is really no surprise: “That’s what storytellers do. We restore order with imagination. We instill hope again and again.”
I got teary-eyed...

I’m Back
I’m back!
My family and I had some much needed and well-earned time off together and we enjoyed every single second of it, that’s for sure. We laughed, we played, and we made memories–it doesn’t get any better than that.
Of course, I came back to a ton of email and a new cover sighting! That’s right, I got my first look at the cover for Amish # 4, SUSPENDERED SENTENCE (release: March 2015). I’m just checking to see if it’s final and then I’ll share it with all of you!
I also got back jacket c...
