Pieces and Bits, Bits and Pieces

Let’s get right to it this morning…

1) Fall asleep with the TV on/off?

2) First thing you do when you wake up?

3) Pet-peeve with driving?

4) Last time you pulled an all-nighter?

5) Your favorite I-really-shouldn’t-eat-this-but-gonna-eat-it-anyway food?

First Day

I’m never sure on these writing prompts (as opposed to talking about writing), because sometimes I get responses, sometimes I don’t. But let’s try this one more time this week… littlegirlwriting

Write an opening paragraph (from a kid’s perspective–you make up the kid) about the first day of school. This kid can be happy about it, angry, anxious, whatever. Make us laugh, make us think, you’re choice.

Pondering, and Some Sighing

Today is the first official day of school in our district and my youngest just went off to start 10th grade. I can’t believe the little baby I just had yesterday (or, it seems that way) is now a sophomore in high school. Time really does go by in the blink of an eye, doesn’t it? I remember her carrying book after book over to me on the floor so we could read together… I remember carrying her everywhere she went… I remember her first laugh as clearly as if I’m hearing it right now…

I’m also in...

The Wait Begins…Again.

Despite the fact that those of us who work from home don’t often honor 3-day weekends, I managed to get some reading time in the past two days.

I bought Linda Castillo’s latest, THE DEAD WILL TELL during her launch week in July, but, because of a book I was already reading (and continued to read in pathetic spurts over the next 8 weeks) and the volume of writing I was doing, I had to wait to actually start on the book.

Fast forward to this past weekend. I finally got to sit down and start readi...

Bits x 4

Time for an interesting assortment of Bits…

1) Are you a talker or a listener?

2) If you had the option to not see a color, which color would you not see? Why?

3) If you could have a room full of one thing, what would you want?

4) Which cartoon character best describes you?

Have a great long weekend, everyone!

To Work We Go

Setting (along with characters) is always a huge part of a book for me (as a reader, as well as a writer). writergirl

If the characters are believable, I care enough to see what happens to them.

If the setting is rich, I can become part of the story.

So here’s a writing prompt for those of you who choose to give it a whirl.

Via a single paragraph, put us in your work environment, but without telling us what you do. Instead, using as many senses as possible, try to see if we can guess.

The Final Countdown

The final “official” week of summer is here and DD # 2 and I are trying to cram as much fun (minus the mandatory school physical, of course) into these last few days as possible.

Yesterday, we headed to the beach with two of her friends in tow. We tanned, we hung out in the ocean (water was beautiful), we played some video games at the arcade (I’m just not as quick as I once was as Ms. Pac-Man), had some Jersey Shore pizza, and went on to the boardwalk for a while (they did the bumper cars and...

One Down

So I finally finished reading a book last week…

I started The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarity a few months ago but, because of my own writing and life, I had to keep putting it aside. Last week, a few pockets of reading time emerged, and so I was finally able to get some pages under my belt.

When it released, this book hit #1 on the NYT and it wasn’t hard to see why.

The official blurb says this about the book:

Imagine your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, to...

Re-do

If someone knocked on your door and said you could have two inside-the-house projects done, what would you choose? And this is renovating, not adding.

Me? I’d choose a total kitchen redo and a really cool (and well made/installed) closet system in the bedroom.

Your turn. :)

Bits Time

That’s right, it’s Bits Time.

1) If you went to college, what was the name of your first roommate? How long did you room with him/her?

2) What was the first car you drove (whether you owned it or not)?

3) Ever had a speeding ticket?

4) Microwave popcorn or movie theater popcorn?

5) What TV show (whether on DVD or real time) are you most interested in watching at the moment?

Have a great weekend, everyone!
