Welcome to Dragon Soul by Laura Greenwood

Writing is so often a solitary thing. Even if we need a team around us to get something ready to publish, the writing itself is normally just a solo thing. Finding a co-author you can share the journey with can be magical – so much so that I actually currently have three different on-going co-written series (Seven Wardens with Skye MacKinnon, Harem of Misery with A.K. Koonce & Dragon Soul with Arizona Tape)

This week, Arizona and I have launched the seventh book we’ve written together (though one of the seven isn’t available yet!): Fifth Soul. And not just as an ebook either, we’ve also launched the audiobook!

Dragon Soul is actually our second series together – we already have a completed trilogy called Twin Souls (books 1 & 2 can be read in either order and then the story is tied up in three). But they are set in the same universe and if you read all of them, there are references to past characters.

Our first series was super easy to name – Tate and Ayra are quite literally twin souls. They even share identical bodies. Our second series wasn’t as easy. Probably because we only ever planned one series and a couple of spin-offs (which actually turned into three extra series for a total of 15 books in the Twin Souls Universe).

After a bit of debate, we settled on Dragon Soul. Dragons for the dragon shifters, and soul to link it to the other series. But then the name took on a different meaning – the Dragon Soul bar. A place for misfits and dragon shifters alike.

Which is a little bit of a theme in our series. Our heroines come in all shapes and sizes. Some are a little broken (like Holly from Torn Soul), some are a little bit repressed (like JJ from Bound Soul) and some are just really stubborn (like Lola in Fifth Soul). All of them have to deal with the intricacies of dragon society and dragon mating, and all find love…just not where they really expected it to.

(Plus, it’s a bar, there’s some drunk dragon shifters going on which is always a little bit fun!)

Don’t Let the World Dampen Your Holiday Spirit and A Contest, Too!

[image error]It’s pouring rain here. People are stressed and hurrying. My husband has been ill, and we’ve been running around between tests, doctor appointments, and spent some time in the ER. Things have arrived damaged or ruined, so I’ve been trying to get replacements while doing returns.

I try to think of the important things. My husband is starting to do better. We’re going to see the family. Everything will be okay. Better than okay! And we’ve managed to get the tree up.

During the holidays, people tend to want everything to be perfect. Perfect is not necessary.  Being happy and being with those you love is perfect enough.

My last contest of 2018 is over at The Romance Studio. Enter over there if you’d like a chance to win one of my books in Kindle.  https://www.trsparties.com/happy-holiday-trs-contest-alert-here-a-tale-of-voodoo-passion-and-miracles/  The contest is winner’s choice.  Here’s just one of my new pretty book cards.

Merry Christmas, Happy Solstice, and Happy Holidays to everyone with a holiday right now! Just remember it’s all about love.

Giving More

We are about a week away from the pinnacle of the season or as a popular song says, “The most wonderful time of the year”. I myself (and I imagine many others) love this time of year but my reason for loving it has evolved over time and interestingly enough, when a certain component is missing, I find it just doesn’t feel the same. So what does it for me? Giving.

Ya, ya, don’t go all gooberish on me, it’s true! As a kid, I loved this time of year for the presents and the lights and the holiday scents. And unless you are the person fighting crowds (which have been reduced thanks to giants like Amazon), most people just seem nicer during this time of year. But more than anything, I really do feel that the years we seem more removed from the giving, are the years it feels a little less like the holidays. As a parent, this is also a point of difficulty because I want my kids to enjoy their presents of course, but I also want them to realize that there is more to the season than getting. It is a difficult concept for us as kids because life at that time is really all about us and our world.

So what helps? Most years, I enjoy doing Christmas tree Angels from an organization like Toys 4 Tots. The company I work for will often partner with them and run a drive throughout the holidays. Other times, I try to participate more in food collection drives or church efforts. In recent years it has been about getting my kids involved and as expected, this continues to be a work in progress.

So remember, if you haven’t given—it is never too late and I promise it will make you feel better if done for the right reasons (meaning that it has meaning and is something you want to do). In the meantime, happy writing and enjoy the rest of the holiday season.

Getting A Schedule Together by Mandy Rosko

I’m a pantser sort of writer. I only need the names, various descriptions and basic setting and problems to work out my next plot, but I also work in Paranormal or Contemporary romance, so it’s not like I’m writing a heavily involved mystery every month that needs a huge amount of plotting and editing. But I’ve gotten used to this sort of thing.

I tend to just sit down and do a lot of writing. I crank out my words and try to get something that reasonably looks like a plot going. For this reason, I tend to be a little on the fly with things.

Including creating a schedule for releasing my upcoming books.

Which means there is almost never any schedule at all.

This is where I’ve got a friend of mine coming in. She’s started a small press and wants to create a schedule for me to get going, as well as help me out with the editing process, and a few other odds and ends.

I’m eager to see how it will turn out when it’s done, and if it will make a bigger difference in my writing schedule.

Which would be amazing, especially with the new job in the works.

I’ll have to try to keep track of how everything works out and feels in practice so I can come back and let you know how this had affected my schedule and output. For now, it’s just planning, but if you’re a writer, it’s always good to do a little planning

Vampires Night Out Paranormal-Scope

[image error]Hi,

I’m Vampire David Hilliard, the hero in The Stormy Love Life of Laura Cordelais. Susan is under the weather, so I’m filling in for her.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

You have a very attractive neck. Consider wearing scarves this week, unless you’re in the mood to share.

Taurus:

It’s in your blood to be creative and exciting. Take up a hobby or a dream you left behind.  Let your blood lead your desires.

Gemini :

Go out for a bite. Try someplace new. Take friends. I know going out for a bite always invigorates me. It will do the same for you.

Cancer:

Vampires excel at making a statement. May I suggest a classic black dress or a sharp jacket in noir!

Leo:

Movement should express confidence and grace. Go out and dance. You’ll be surprised by the people you’ll meet. Winks.

Virgo:

Give generously to charity this week. Consider giving blood.

Libra:

Some people get nervous and irritable before holidays. Avoid those that want to bite your head off.

Scorpio:

Celebrate with old friends. Go out for stakes. I mean steaks. A slip of a tongue could cost you someone dear.

Sagittarius:

What has webbed feet and fangs? Count Quackula. No seriously, be funny and let others do the same. Let this mood of the holidays lift your heart.

Capricorn:

Vampires don’t catch cold, but living so long they know they need to take care of their bodies. Take better care of yourself. Eat well and exercise.

Aquarius:

Unless you have a lot stashed in a coffin somewhere, watch your money this week. You can give gifts without overspending.

Pisces:

You have big plans. Why not break them down into manageable bites? Success is more easily accomplished that way.

Thank you for letting me enjoy the Paranormal-Scope with you! If you’d like to know more about me, you can read The Stormy Love Life of Laura Cordelais which is available in available in Kindle and Print and Barnes and Noble Print

Thank you, Susan, and get better soon.

Finding the Shoe That Fits by Laura Greenwood

This week I took my good author friend, Arizona Tape, to her first ever pantomime: Cinderella. This one is a very silly British Christmas tradition which includes breaking the fourth wall like crazy and a lot of audience participation.

Luckily, she loved it! But really, there’s nothing not to! Between the pantomime Dames (in this case, the ugly step-sisters), topical jokes (I correctly predicted there’d be at least one Brexit joke) and humour aimed at both kids and adults, it’s a real treat.

More importantly for me, pantomimes are based on fairy tales, something I love with an absolute passion! (And something I’ll be publishing more of in 2019!) The first book I ever finished was a fairy tale retelling (though it is currently unavailable while I make it better!)

But first…I thought I’d tell you a little about If The Shoe Fits, a Cinderella retelling that’s coming next month! It’s linked to my other contemporary story, Kneel For Me (which is on sale for 99 cents at the moment!) It follows Sadie as she falls for a Flemish Prince at a ball she shouldn’t even be at.

I loved writing every moment of this book and am looking forward to writing more fairy tales in the next year!

You can pre-order If The Shoe Fits for 99 cents as part of the Fiery Fairy Tales Collection.

A Christmas Treat and Contests that are Happening!

For a Christmas treat, I am sharing an excerpt from Vampire King of New York.

[image error]In this excerpt, Evelyn is trying to get advice from her sister Laura and Laura’s husband David regarding King Max.

*

Evelyn sat down on the bed; her fingers flattened the bedspread. “I’m developing certain feelings for Max, and I’m afraid I’m giving into those feelings.”

David and Laura didn’t say anything but raised a brow at her expectantly. She sensed it. She was sensing a lot of things lately. Maybe Laura’s saliva was still in her system.

A burn of blush encompassed her body. She gazed up at her sister, purposely avoiding David’s eyes.

“When he kisses me, I almost faint.”

Laura’s mouth fell open.

“I think about him all the time. I told him I wasn’t ready for our relationship to go . . . And then all he has to do is touch me and, well, you saw when you came in before. All he has to do is enfold me in those warm, strong arms of his, and his desire becomes mine.”

Both their mouths dropped open.

“What is it? Some kind of vampire spell I’ve fallen under? Why is he warm to the touch, when vampires are cold? I know you guys are cold. I’ve hugged you on enough occasions.”

David and Laura looked at each other in such a way that Evelyn believed neither one wanted to answer her.

“Well?”

David sighed and threw up his hands. “You’re going to have to speak to Max about it. I’ll let him know you need to talk to him.” Both vampires were out of there quick as a flash.

Evelyn didn’t know whether to scream or cry. Frustration didn’t do justice to the anguish and confusion tearing at her. She got undressed and started the shower. Using the pounding water to dissolve her anger was an old method Evelyn resorted to whenever she was mad. This time she wasn’t angry, she was frightened. What had she gotten herself into?

Sudsing up, she traced the fragrant foam over her body. It offered soothing relief, until her thoughts drifted to Max. She closed her eyes. Soon it felt like his fingers teasing and making soapy circles around her breasts. Evelyn moaned. Catching her distorted reflection in the half-fogged glass, she broke down and sobbed. She could not bear the idea of another death in her life, especially if it was Max.

Climbing out of the shower, she put on her nightgown and robe. Evelyn slid back the sheets. Maybe her robe made it to the chair, maybe not. The sheets felt cold against her legs. She inched up the blanket. The truth was she was afraid to go back to her house in Connecticut. Evelyn was afraid of going back to an empty life.

Sleep was not always her friend. This time was different. She focused on Max and let her mind play out what would have happened if David hadn’t interrupted them. His touch. The heat of his lips on her skin. The gentle way he coaxed her thighs apart and kissed his way to her core. Evelyn whimpered in her sleep. She wanted more, needed more.

Groggily, she climbed out of bed. The alarm hadn’t gone off. That’s right, it was Sunday. She didn’t need to be up. Evelyn slipped on her blue robe and went out into the kitchen. She was about to open the refrigerator, when she spotted a light in the living room and went to investigate. A man was lying on the sofa holding open a map.

Every fiber in her body immediately went into hyperdrive. His presence was enough. She couldn’t be sure who exactly was on the couch, until he lowered the map revealing a familiar smile and a powerfully built chest. Evelyn pondered the effect of raking her fingernails over his musculature.

“Good morning, Evelyn. When I came back, you were sleeping, so I thought we’d talk this morning. Are you often up early?”

“No. I didn’t sleep well.” Walking over to the chair opposite him, Evelyn sat and folded her legs beneath her. Max, who reclined on the sofa, was barely covered by the crocheted flower afghan with the holes in all the right places.

“I’m sorry to hear that.”

“You don’t have to sleep on the sofa, Max. We have two guest rooms.”

“Both are currently occupied by Arnhem Knights. Besides I’d prefer not to sleep in a guest room.”

Evelyn blinked, her heart racing like a rabbit hearing a shot.

“David said you needed to speak with me.” He said it with such nonchalance, as if he had never mentioned his preference.

Evelyn shook her head. “I wish he hadn’t told you.” She avoided his gaze, but it didn’t matter. Her embarrassment bloomed in a burning flame on her cheek.

In a blur, he was sitting on the coffee table directly in front of her. All she could think about were his strong, sculpted biceps, the chiseled muscles of his chest. He was pale, which was to be expected, but the muscular definition of a warrior’s body made her dizzy. The fact that he was wearing blue silk boxers that showed an appreciable bulge wasn’t helping matters.

“Are you feeling better? Have you recovered completely from the poisoning?”

He grinned and took her hands in his. “I am fine. It’s going to take more than a little poison to get me. Of course, I am grateful your sister has that voodoo book. How did she come by it?”

“A friend from New Orleans sent it.”

“That has to be quite a friend to give such a book to a vampire.”

Evelyn started to stand but too late. Max had her in his arms and they were on the sofa, snuggled beneath the afghan. His lips went to her neck, and she stilled.

“Are you still afraid of me?”

She shook her head. When she faced him, they were only inches apart. “I know you won’t bite me, that you’ll keep your word.”

“Then what is it?” He lovingly stroked her hair.

“Max, I was badly hurt by a man I trusted. I’m not eager to jump into another relationship so soon.”

He kissed her but didn’t linger. Max leaned back and gazed into her eyes not to intrude but to silently tell her he cared. “I will wait for you, Evelyn. Just tell me what you need.”

She smiled, trembling, her fingers touching his hair, caressing his cheek. “Okay, this is going to be weird, but I need to know. What other ways can you die?”

He howled with laughter. “I’m sure it’s in that book of Laura’s.”

“I want to hear it from you. Besides the poison, how can someone kill an ancient?”

His smile faded into a straight line. “Well, I can be destroyed by beheading.”

“And a stake through the heart,” she added.

“No. Not a vampire of my age. I would simply pull it out and heal.”

“Fire?”

“No. I would walk through it.”

“Is there anything else?”

“An ancient would only die from sunlight, if they lay out in it for two days. Even the night between would not save them.”

“Why would an ancient do that?”

He lifted the afghan over their heads, to make a little tent secluding them from the others. “A broken heart. Please, don’t break mine.” He kissed her, this time taking her without any restraint, his lips pressed firmly against hers with their white-hot heat. His tongue pushed her lips apart and invaded, stroking the inside of her mouth until she moaned.

Evelyn pushed him away. “You have the power to break my heart too.”

He gazed into her eyes then past that, into the essence of who she was.

Sighing, she moved her fingers through her hair as if the motion would help her think because this was a situation where she needed to think.

“I will never hurt you, the way Jack Beaumont did. I will never betray you. A true lifemate cannot betray their only love, my Evelyn.” He took her hand and placed it over his heart.

*

Life is a Marathon

Do you ever feel like you are running ragged? Now I’m not talking about running literally although that isn’t exactly easy either, but I’m talking about the non stop, go, go, go that is life.

I recently began a new job and I can honestly say that in the weeks leading up to my start, I felt as if I were gearing up for a marathon. And now I’ve started the new job and two weeks in it is not disappointing in that aspect. Now my question is really how long I’m going to last in this “race”. And of course, I, like many people out there doubt myself at times, because from where I sit, I can easily see it being a good two years before I come up for my first breath of air. Admittedly, that doesn’t sound appealing as a whole but I enjoy the day to day and for now, that and my home life will be enough to get me through.

To me, it seems as if life is a marathon. In fact, it feels more like a series of marathons strung together. The only difference is that the “training” were receive early on prepares us to handle the hills and curves a little bit easier. Each hardship conditions us to be stronger and better, even if it hurts a bit along the way.

I know this is an optimistic view to have but that’s me and it’s the same attitude that helps me push myself further. As I’ve gotten older I find myself pumping the brakes sometimes, but wisdom comes with age and sometimes what mattered yesterday no longer matters as much today.

Lesson learned? Take a deep breath and go—you got this! Happy writing this week!

Backup Your Computer by Mandy Rosko

This week we’re going to talk about the importance of backing up your work.

As in all of your work.

Your cover arts, your edits, your books, even those extra couple hundred, or even couple of thousand, words that you’ve written and have yet to back up.

Because my computer crashed a couple of days ago, and I had to reset the entire hard drive.

Which meant erasing everything and reinstalling Sierra, (an old operating system) and starting over.

It was beyond strange to see my computer with no files saves to the desktop. I’ve been meaning to clean it all out, to uncluttered those files, but to have everything gone like that actually messed with my mind for a little while.

I’d saved everything to my desktop and went to restart the computer so it would have a fresh start before my livestream, but then it kept powering off on its own while still loading.

Not a good sign, and it took me several hours before I found out what was wrong, and another hour of denial before I set to work fixing the problem.

I’m still not entirely sure how fixed it is. I’m a bit terrified to restart the computer and see if it will work, but I’ve got some of my old stuff downloaded back onto the computer, OBS, Steam, Scrivener and Vellum, though now I have to hunt down their license keys to make them work again.

All in all, most everything I had was backed up to my dropbox with the exception of some cover arts, which should be still available as downloads via attachment in my email, some edits I was working on, and 3K words of my latest novel.

It still hurt to lose all that, and I’m not looking forward to finding all my old cover arts, though I think they were also backed up to Dropbox.

my Dropbox also happens to be a cluttered mess, you see.

That being said, thank God for Dropbox, and this is a warning and reminder for you so you don’t go through what I did. If you notice it’s been a while since your last save, make sure to get that fixed right now. Backup your computer to Dropbox, then get an external hard rive and backup your dropbox to it. It will save you a huge headache.

And make it so you don’t have to rewrite thousands of words on an already tight deadline

Captivating WereDodos Paranormal-Scope

The famous Edwards’s Dodo, painted by Savery in 1626. In the public domain in the U.S.A. Courtesy of Wikipedia.

Dodos are extinct. Or are they? Do Were-Dodos count?

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

WereDodos are spiritual beings. Perhaps that explains their survival. Tend to your more spiritual side, but don’t forget to be practical, too.

Taurus:

WereDodos are party animals! Don’t let your socializing overwhelm other aspects of your life. Practice balance, just not over a fire pit.

Gemini :

WereDodos enjoy being part of teams and in relationships. Enjoy the company of those you work with and those close to your heart.

Cancer:

WereDodos are hard workers. Just don’t bury yourself in work. All work and no play makes an extinct bird.

Leo:

WereDodos are creative by leaps and bounds. Explore your possibilities with a winged heart. Hobbies can enrich your life.

Virgo:

WereDodos are a suspicious lot. Be very careful of making any agreements and contracts.

Libra:

WereDodos are terrible when it comes to confrontations. Best not to do it. You will need time to think things through more clearly.

Scorpio:

WereDodos are fumble-brained when it comes to money. Don’t you be. There will be extra expenses. Watch your budget carefully.

Sagittarius:

WereDodos are tender with those they love. Someone dear is having a hard time. They will need your help and comfort.

Capricorn:

Gossip may have caused the extinction of the Dodos. WereDodos take note. People have political agendas. Stay out of it. It’s best not to comment at all.

Aquarius:

WereDodos can’t distinquish the truth. Be careful of entering into new projects especially if they involve a lot of money. Focus on the love of friends or family.

Pisces:

WereDodos believe in their dreams. Start a dream journal and learn more about yourself. You are very perceptive, even when asleep.
