The Cheesy Royal Movie Behind My Latest Release by Laura Greenwood
This week, I’ve released my royal romance, Kneel For Me. This one was mostly inspired by my love of cheesy royal movies and my absolute favourite, The Princess Diaries. I read the books first as a teen and then watched the movies and did the traditional bookworm thing of hating every second because they were different from the books. But then they grew on me and now both The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2 are two of my go to movies when I want that extra hit of cheese (particularly when I’m sad!)
Which brings me to Kneel For Me! I’ve always had a thing for royals (according to my author friends anyway!) and this was the perfect excuse to let that out. The idea behind this book (and the rest of my contemporary romances actually!) was to have a little fun with the royal theme. Which means it turned out light hearted, with a happily ever after and everything in between!
I’ve also had the pleasure of listening to Kneel For Me in audio and I thought you might like to listen to a sample!

Contest and Trick or Treat with Author Julia Clarke
Julia Clarke [image error]
Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Fall brings cooler temperatures (relatively speaking) here in Texas, and there are pumpkins everywhere! One of my favorite things about Halloween are the costumes. The candy is great, but the chance to dress up as a princess, a dragon, or even a firefighter always appealed to me. I think it’s because deep down, getting to be someone else or something else (Arrow, anyone?) even if only for a day is an alluring idea.
Growing up, I can remember thinking that boys got to wear the best costumes. For many years, I wanted to be Batman or another superhero, but I was often a bride or a princess. My parents didn’t discourage me from wearing what was considered a “boy” costume, but for some reason it just never happened. Regardless, it was always a fun time!
Halloween is for stepping out of the norm, finding an alternative side of ourselves. And that’s what I love about writing romance, especially reverse harem romance. What woman wouldn’t want multiple, sexy men pining for her affection? It’s a chance to explore a world where one woman can fall in love—and have a relationship—with multiple men. It’s an opportunity to escape to a world where magic, shifters, and time travel exist, a world like the one in Time of Enchantment.
Time of Enchantment is the story of an enchantress and geneticist named Ana. She’s brilliant and has everything going for her but love. And when she finally decides to swear off relationships, a genetics professor, a wolf shifter, and two men from the past are thrust into her life. Can she balance the desires of these four men and live her happily ever after, or is it all just an illusion?
Have a happy and safe Halloween! Masquerading as someone else can be a fun trick, but sometimes, the best treat we can give is to be exactly who we are.

Guest Blog & Contest: Blame Dark Shadows for It All with Inanna Arthen
It was just a few days before Halloween in 1968. I was in the 7th grade (you do the math) in [image error]Spokane, Washington. I was nurturing a new-born passion that had sprung into my psyche fully formed, seemingly from nowhere, about a year earlier. I was absolutely fanatic about all things vampire.
Where this obsession came from is a complete mystery. I had been a hyper-sensitive child who couldn’t sleep without a light on in the hall and my bedroom door open, and still had insomnia because I saw scary things in the shadows. I loved fantasy but couldn’t bear even the mildest horror. The theme music for the Perry Mason TV show scared the willies out of me. The bat hallucination scene in The Lost Weekend kept me awake at night for weeks.
One night, I said to my mom, “Turn off the light and shut my bedroom door, I can’t sleep with so much light.” To her immense credit, my mom never made a single comment about this, she just did it. From that time on, I was a fervent horror fan—much more than I am now. I was always a voracious reader as a kid; now my TBR stacks dripped with blood. Somehow, vampires had a lot to do with this 180-degree personality change.
I still remember the first vampire movie that held me mesmerized for 90 minutes: the Hammer film Brides of Dracula, with blond David Peel as urbane, supercilious and manipulative Baron Meinster. I read Dracula in one day, and Montague Summers’ The Vampire in Europe a bit more slowly. I dressed as a fanged, bloody-mouthed revenant with trailing shreds of rotted shroud for 6th grade Halloween.
In the 7th grade, we got a little free magazine every month in English class. That October, just before Halloween, the magazine profiled the hottest daytime TV show on the air, with a cover photo of its star baring fangs: Dark Shadows. Despite the raging popularity it had enjoyed for nearly a year, I had never heard of it before. “There’s a TV show with vampires?” I thought. “A serious show, not The Munsters, not just a joke? Do we get it here?” At dismissal time, I did what I was going to be doing every day for the next three years: I ran home from school to turn on the TV. We did indeed get Dark Shadows, even in a three-channel backwater like Spokane. There was a vampire plotline going on at that moment. I was hooked.
And so were most of my friends. Dark Shadows made me many friends, including some of my longest and deepest friendships. I got the first personal long distance call I’d ever had the day the show aired its final episode in 1971. I ran into Dark Shadows fans at Star Trek conventions. In the 1980s I attended some of the Dark Shadows Festivals and made a whole new circle of friends. Our fandom for this show made us all kin.
But more than that—it was Dark Shadows that made me a writer. I wasn’t a writer by preference; I preferred to draw, and I worked very hard to break into acting. But Dark Shadows, with its long, intertwining plots, sparked my love for spinning “the endless story.” My frustrations with the show’s shortcomings—I was a devoted but critical fan—led me to create stories that improved on the vampire clichés of Dark Shadows and took the storylines in different directions. I didn’t write fanfic, though. I started creating my own characters. The only permanent marks Dark Shadows left on my fiction are its locations on the coast of Maine.
You’d be surprised how many well-known authors of vampire fiction were inspired by Dark Shadows. Stephen King…Anne Rice…Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. Everyone with any interest in fantasy or horror watched, or at least knew, the show. In most cases, it “influenced” them the way it influenced my late friend Anne Fraser, who said she read a Dark Shadows comic book and threw it down spluttering, “I can write a better vampire story than this!” Some 30 years later, I published her novel Gideon Redoak (http://bylightunseenmedia.com/redoak.htm), which has vampires, mages, werewolves and a mansion on the coast of Maine.
Dark Shadows became the first daytime television serial ever to be syndicated and re-run. You can (re)watch every episode on Amazon Prime now (and I do). A few years ago, I wrote a long article (http://bylightunseen.net/blublood/?p=52) that covers Dark Shadows’ history and its influence on the genre.
My Vampires of New England Series (http://inannaarthen.com/vones.htm) is something like what I wish Dark Shadows could have been—realistic, character-driven, thoughtful and true to its folklore roots. But these books are my stories, part of me, and Dark Shadows is just one of the many seasonings that flavor my writing slow cooker.
You can judge for yourself!
CONTEST: I’m giving away all three volumes so far of the series—Mortal Touch (http://bylightunseenmedia.com/mt.htm), The Longer the Fall http://bylightunseenmedia.com/tltf.htm) and All the Shadows of the Rainbow (http://bylightunseenmedia.com/atsotr.htm)—in print or ebook editions (winner’s choice). It is, after all, the 50th anniversary of the day turning a TV dial forever changed my life. One lucky winner will win. Be sure to comment in the comment box! The contest starts now and end on Oct. 31 at Midnight Eastern time. Good luck and the contest is void where prohibited by law.

Changes
The crisp, autumn weather started this past weekend and admittedly, it feels wonderful. The leaves are changing and chimneys have started. I even had the heat turn on automatically this weekend as we dipped into the 30s.
One thing I will say that I love about the changing of seasons is that sense of change. We can sometimes get so caught up in the routine that a little bit of change does us good. If anything, I believe sometimes we crave changes. Ever heard of mid-life crisis? Or even on a small scale, you just feel that need for a new hairstyle or new clothes. We go through this whole sense of renewal and change as we start each year and come up with new resolutions.
I can’t explain why change feels good at times to me. I know this isn’t the case for everyone. For instance, change is constant in the workplace but if anything, it seems to create more nerves than comfort. I personally believe that change (in moderation) is something we should be open to. Many times, whether we want it to or not, it comes out way. We don’t need to embrace every part of it, but it is important to keep an open mind as to the good things that change can bring with it. Most of the time, we tend to focus on the negative or what worries us most. That’s because we believe we can forsee that whereas the good parts are easier to see in hindsight.
So as autumn embraces you, think of something you are looking forward to in the coming months.
Happy writing this week and don’t forget next week is Halloween, yay!

What Zombies Love Paranormal-Scope
It’s been getting cold and I like it. I especially enjoy how the wind howls at night.
While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.
The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.
The week for not so innocent baby animals and you:
Aries:
Zombies are obsessed with any chocolate covered cake. Don’t you be. Avoid excessive sugar and re-evaluate your exercise plan.
Taurus:
Zombies collect things as mementos. Organize your mementos so you can enjoy them more in a scrapbook or a display case.
Gemini :
Zombies can get glued to video games and forget that even staggering forward is exercise. Limit your time looking at a screen and go out with friends.
Cancer:
Zombies that get together as a group is called a cluster. Enjoy the company of friends and/or family.
Leo:
Zombies are great dancers though they prefer the waltz or a spirited tango. Maybe I mean tangle. Coordination is not their strong suit. Take a dance class or a lively exercise course.
Virgo:
Zombies are confused by puppets. They think they’re real. Be careful with what you hear from others. It may not be real.
Libra:
Zombies chase falling leaves. When you see this, don’t disturb their moment. Every one needs a moment of childlike bliss. Enjoy nature and a bliss of your own.
Scorpio:
Zombies chase birds. Pay no attention when you see someone chasing a flighty idea. Don’t give an opinion unless asked.
Sagittarius:
Zombies don’t have people skills but you do. Collaboration with make you shine this week.
Capricorn:
Zombies can only groan. Choose words carefully in the home and workplace. People might say things they don’t mean. Take whatever is said with a grain of salt.
Aquarius:
Zombies avoid the spotlight. You are going to shine because of your efforts. Show off but be kind. Be nice to everyone.
Pisces:
Zombies often wander the world. Take a course in something you’ve always wanted to explore. Plan a getaway to a place you’ve always wanted to see.

After we kill the humans… (and Giveaway!) by Arizona Tape
Have you ever wondered what would happen if a mysterious race swooped in to kill off humanity and rebuild society?
Yes?
Wait… You haven’t?
Wow, this is a little awkward then… Gosh, I’d apologise for being the psychopath on the blog, but I’m not. I’m a writer and my mind has an overdrive setting. This one usually switches on when I’m in the shower or while I should be asleep. Slightly annoying, but mostly pretty great. It’s like having my own tv in my head and I get to choose all the channels.
One of those channels has been stuck on what would happen if society could start over. To entertain that thought, I dug out some morbid thinking and vampires, because vampires make everything better. (As proven on Halloween)
Just kidding, they’re actually necessary for the plot.
In my dystopian book, My Own Human (2 book series), vampires kill off all the humans (like a restart button) and build their own slightly communistic world. Okay, slightly is a bit of an understatement. It’s a communism, but one that works for once. Not just that, almost everything else is different. Here are some more fun facts about my dystopian world.
Vampires go to school for hundred years. (True story)
They don’t define their sexuality or race. It’s just one of those things.
Blessed with a long life, vampires can life up to become a thousand.
Every baby is artificially made since vampires are infertile.
They don’t drink blood. (Or do they…?)
There are many other difference to my world, like imbedded keys in the skin, hidden colonies of humans, and a sunken continent (bye Europe). A beautiful romance between a human and a vampire blooms, despite all the odds, and there’s a whole new world to discover under the surface.
If you’re looking for a different type of scare and romance this October, you’ll want to dive into My Own Human and either lose or restore your faith in humanity.
Which one that is? That’s up to you…
Happy Halloween!

The Impact of Book Contests by Stacy Hoff
My mind is fixed on the calendar. Why? Because very soon I will find out if the second book in my Building Love series, HOTTER THAN THE CARIBBEAN, will win the 2018 Las Vegas Romance Writers’ “I HEART INDIE” contest! A few weeks ago I was notified that HOTTER is a finalist. Now I’m biting my nails!
Winning book contests can have a big impact for an author. It validates the time we’ve spent locked away in our rooms with a laptop. It also can be used for promo, which can positively impact sales. It can even get us a book signing. This summer, a fabulous indie bookstore offered me a fabulous book signing event, because another one of my books, JOCKEYING FOR YOU, was the winner of the 2017 Gayle Wilson Award For Excellence.
Most importantly perhaps, contest awards can entice readers to buy the next book. If HOTTER THAN THE CARIBBEAN (Building Love #2) wins the “I Heart Indie” maybe readers will be persuaded to read the next installment of the series, MAD FOR YOU IN MADRID (Building Love #3).
Since MAD FOR YOU IN MADRID (Building Love #3), just released October 10, 2018, I’m especially excited for this contest opportunity. Wish me luck!
Hook line for MAD For YOU IN MADRID (Building Love #3)
A surprise business trip to Spain leads to something even more unexpected—a forbidden romance with the client.
Book blurb for MAD FOR YOU IN MADRID (Building Love #3)
Lori Cayne is in a tricky situation. Her public relations job has sent her to Spain for a project that is way over her head. Her task is to convince American tourists to stay at a Madrid hotel. Unfortunately, Lori knows little about public relations and even less about the hotel industry. Dealing with the client, however, will be the real challenge. Hotel magnate Daniel Vega is rich, uber-sexy, and the one night stand that wasn’t. That’s because Lori had inadvertently stood him up before things got a chance to really heat up. Now Daniel wants nothing to do with her, personally or professionally.
Daniel Vega is none-to-pleased to learn that Lori will be handling his new hotel’s publicity campaign. Her flaky ways will be hell on his business, and on him. Yet shutting her out is hard to do when the woman is full of surprises and an even fuller heart. Her good nature makes her willing to do anything for anybody. When Daniel’s brother, Elias, asks Lori to be his fake-fiancé at an important event, Daniel is not surprised when Lori agrees. What he is surprised by is the pang of jealousy. Maybe Lori isn’t the only one with personal issues to work out. After all, if Daniel is truly the success he thinks he is, how can off-beat, business greenhorn Lori Cayne emotionally bring him to his knees?
When news of the fake engagement creates a scandal, both Lori’s company and Daniel’s world-wide enterprise may be damaged beyond repair. The damage done to their hearts, however, may be a whole lot worse.
Hook line for HOTTER THAN THE CARIBBEAN (Building Love #2)
In the Caribbean, the secrets, sex, and scandals are hotter.
Book blurb for HOTTER THAN THE CARIBBEAN (Building Love #2)
Luis Serrano, the unwanted love child of a hotel construction magnate, is determined to reach his father’s level of success. When Luis finds himself pitted against his half-brother for control over their ailing father’s company, sibling rivalry comes to a head. The stakes are high—the brother that best completes their portion of the Caribbean construction project will gain control over the entire company. To win, Luis hires an interior design firm. But the firm will have to perform difficult work under serious time constraints.
Melanie Merritt is used to sibling rivalry. She’s always been second best to her older sister, the “golden child” of their parent’s interior design firm. Melanie’s desire is to be an artist. She works for her family to appease them. Her newest task is to implement a complex project for Luis Serrano under an impossibly short deadline. If she fails, her family’s company may go bankrupt. But Melanie can’t keep her too-creative ideas away from her family, and the client.
Completing work on time won’t be easy. Especially when dual sibling rivalries threaten to destroy the project—and a passion hotter than the Caribbean.
Hook line for BETTING ON LOVE IN VEGAS (Building Love #1)
In Las Vegas, there’s no bigger gamble than love.
Book blurb for BETTING ON LOVE IN VEGAS (Building Love #1)
Catherine “Cat” Warner has problems. The profits from her inns are down. The pressure from her parents is up. Her love life is non-existent. But Cat did manage to get the attention of tough, powerful, gorgeous hotel magnate Ty Orland. Unfortunately, his interest in her is for all the wrong reasons. Instead of wanting Cat, this debonair CEO only wants her land—a parcel he desperately needs for his next big development deal. Too bad, it’s notfor sale. A people pleaser by nature, Cat knows to stand strong. If she caves in to the demands of this sexy, alluring man, it will be her own neck on the line.
Ty Orland has a lot of things going for him. Success. Power. Respect. Unfortunately, he’s also got an old chip on his shoulder and a new financial nightmare. His development deal is going down in flames—and fast. His only way out is if Cat sells him her strategically located parcel. But romancing the land from her is not easy when love gets in the way. The woman is as beautiful as she is beguiling. And Ty no longer knows which prize is more valuable.

Proof Copies Not In Yet by Mandy Rosko
I was really hoping they would be in by now, but it seems that’s not going to happen tonight. It’s almost seven PM, and still no call from my buzzer.
I feel like a drug addict. I NEED those proof copies. I only ordered five of them, I know they’ve shipped, but I desperately want to see them right now, approve them, ship them out to patrons who have been waiting like saints, and then get the rest ordered.
I also wanted to have pictures for you for this post -_-
I think this is going to be something I’ll have to get used to when there are constant deadlines for literally everything, but getting those books in, doing the unboxing on my Twitch Stream and putting it up on Instagram for Patrons, and then getting them packed up and then shipped out.
I hate being behind on my self publishing deadlines, and even more so for Patreon, but I suppose this is going to happen from time to time when the deadlines are so tight. I can’t tell if this is because I do things monthly or because I’m just not working hard enough, but I should definitely have those books here, and pictures of them, by next week. They should even be shipped out by then
