Hello Goodbye… By Ripley Proserpina

In one week, the final book in the Wishes and Curses Duet releases. I started this series two years ago, during NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. The goal of NaNo is to write 50,000 words in one month. In the subsequent years, I’ve attempted NaNo, but I haven’t been able to hit that monthly word count again.

In any case, the first book, Wrath and Ruin, poured out of me. I spent a month thinking about what I wanted to write, so on November 1st, I was ready to go. My plan was to just write one book, but at the end, I wasn’t done.

Now I’m about release Revolution and Rising, and I’m feeling all nostalgic. Why can’t I write 50k again? Was it a one-off made up of the perfect amount of childcare, easy work days, and take-out?

Or maybe it’s the badges that NaNo offers. I feel like everything in life can be accomplished if there’s a badge at the end of it.

Anyhoo, this leads me to my next announcement. This will be my last post for a bit. I’ll be doing a giveaway here in October, but I’ll be taking a break from weekly blogging. I have loved this time on Nights of Passion, and I am so grateful to have “met” Susan Hanniford Crowley, who so graciously allowed me to post gifs and quizzes to my heart’s delight.

Have a wonderful fall everyone! And please keep in touch!

A Summer Ending Writer’s Prompt

For the writers out there or those that would like to start writing, we often find views that inspire a tale. Sometimes they come in a dream. Other times they come as we stroll. Sometimes you go somewhere and something unexpected happens or you meet someone.

New Release Anticipation by Stacy Hoff

I’m so excited! MAD FOR YOU IN MADRID (Building Love #3) will finally be released Wednesday, October 10, 2018! MAD FOR YOU IN MADRID completes the Building Love series. Each book in the series can be read as a stand-alone novel (although they do have recurring characters). All books contain a happily ever after (“HEA”), a steamy romance, and drama between family members. Each is set in a world-class location. BETTING ON LOVE IN VEGAS (Building Love #1) takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada, and HOTTER THAN THE CARIBBEAN (Building Love #2) takes place on Condado Beach, Puerto Rico.

Writing this series gave me some of the most fun I’ve had as an author. I love writing about exotic locales. Whipping up drama. And hey, writing “steamy” scenes is fun, too! As excited as I am to release the final book in the Building Love series, I am finding it a bit hard to let my characters, and connective story line, go.

In fact, each time I complete a novel it’s hard for me to say “good-bye.” I think that’s why I’m creating more and more series. My first series is the Desire series, which is comprised of two books. I wrote DESIRE IN THE EVERGLADES not planning on writing a second. When I hard time let the characters from the first book go, I sat down to write the sequel, DESIRE IN THE ARCTIC. Having that story continue lifted my creative spirits. Writing the Building Love series has done the same for me. I am grateful for the continued opportunity.

I’m biting my nails waiting for MAD FOR YOU IN MADRID (Building Love #3)’s release day. I’ll admit that sales impacts my creative spirit, too. I doubt I’m the only author who wants to know that people are actually enjoying the book I wrote.

In the interim, I’ll breathe deeply and work on promo. Here is the book blurb for MAD FOR YOU IN MADRID (Building Love #3) and the rest of Building Love series, so you know a little bit about the release I’m waiting for!

Hook line for MAD For YOU IN MADRID (Building Love #3)

A surprise business trip to Spain leads to something even more unexpected—a forbidden romance with the client.

Book blurb for MAD FOR YOU IN MADRID (Building Love #3)

Lori Cayne is in a tricky situation. Her public relations job has sent her to Spain for a project that is way over her head. Her task is to convince American tourists to stay at a Madrid hotel. Unfortunately, Lori knows little about public relations and even less about the hotel industry. Dealing with the client, however, will be the real challenge. Hotel magnate Daniel Vega is rich, uber-sexy, and the one night stand that wasn’t. That’s because Lori had inadvertently stood him up before things got a chance to really heat up. Now Daniel wants nothing to do with her, personally or professionally.

Daniel Vega is none-to-pleased to learn that Lori will be handling his new hotel’s publicity campaign. Her flaky ways will be hell on his business, and on him. Yet shutting her out is hard to do when the woman is full of surprises and an even fuller heart. Her good nature makes her willing to do anything for anybody. When Daniel’s brother, Elias, asks Lori to be his fake-fiancé at an important event, Daniel is not surprised when Lori agrees. What he is surprised by is the pang of jealousy. Maybe Lori isn’t the only one with personal issues to work out. After all, if Daniel is truly the success he thinks he is, how can off-beat, business greenhorn Lori Cayne emotionally bring him to his knees?

When news of the fake engagement creates a scandal, both Lori’s company and Daniel’s world-wide enterprise may be damaged beyond repair. The damage done to their hearts, however, may be a whole lot worse.

Hook line for HOTTER THAN THE CARIBBEAN (Building Love #2)

In the Caribbean, the secrets, sex, and scandals are hotter.

Book blurb for HOTTER THAN THE CARIBBEAN (Building Love #2)

Luis Serrano, the unwanted love child of a hotel construction magnate, is determined to reach his father’s level of success. When Luis finds himself pitted against his half-brother for control over their ailing father’s company, sibling rivalry comes to a head. The stakes are high—the brother that best completes their portion of the Caribbean construction project will gain control over the entire company. To win, Luis hires an interior design firm. But the firm will have to perform difficult work under serious time constraints.

Melanie Merritt is used to sibling rivalry. She’s always been second best to her older sister, the “golden child” of their parent’s interior design firm. Melanie’s desire is to be an artist. She works for her family to appease them. Her newest task is to implement a complex project for Luis Serrano under an impossibly short deadline. If she fails, her family’s company may go bankrupt. But Melanie can’t keep her too-creative ideas away from her family, and the client.

Completing work on time won’t be easy. Especially when dual sibling rivalries threaten to destroy the project—and a passion hotter than the Caribbean.

Hook line for BETTING ON LOVE IN VEGAS (Building Love #1)

In Las Vegas, there’s no bigger gamble than love.

Book blurb for BETTING ON LOVE IN VEGAS (Building Love #1)

Catherine “Cat” Warner has problems. The profits from her inns are down. The pressure from her parents is up. Her love life is non-existent. But Cat did manage to get the attention of tough, powerful, gorgeous hotel magnate Ty Orland. Unfortunately, his interest in her is for all the wrong reasons. Instead of wanting Cat, this debonair CEO only wants her land—a parcel he desperately needs for his next big development deal. Too bad, it’s notfor sale. A people pleaser by nature, Cat knows to stand strong. If she caves in to the demands of this sexy, alluring man, it will be her own neck on the line.

Ty Orland has a lot of things going for him. Success. Power. Respect. Unfortunately, he’s also got an old chip on his shoulder and a new financial nightmare. His development deal is going down in flames—and fast. His only way out is if Cat sells him her strategically located parcel. But romancing the land from her is not easy when love gets in the way. The woman is as beautiful as she is beguiling. And Ty no longer knows which prize is more valuable.

Tune Out the Noise

At the time I’m writing this post, this week has been fairly quiet—and thank goodness for that as it has left me more time to simply enjoy life! Last week was busy enough to last me the next couple months. And not a good busy.

Do you ever wonder why we tend to pack so much in our lives? Are we gluttons for punishment or is it that we can’t say no? Or perhaps we have a big dose of the achiever mindset? Probably a mix of all three. I know I am absolutely guilty of these things at some time or other. And that is fine as long as we enjoy what we are doing and don’t leave feeling horribly overwhelmed. But most of the time this stuff is just noise.

I have a couple friends who keep busy but in a different way. They focus on what they want when they want. They’re always taking on adventures (literally)—traveling the world, hiking, running, biking and just enjoying all life has to offer. In my line of work, I can’t stress enough how important it is to spend time doing what we love versus dealing with noise. I can’t count the number of folks I’ve met who plan to live down the line when they retire, only to never make it to the actual living part.

More recently, one of these friends I mentioned above has been fighting cancer and the longevity they were hoping for from life may just not be there.  And yet no matter what happens I know this person took full advantage of the time they’ve had and hopefully will continue to have. So as I raise my “glass” to their future, I want to thank them for reminding me about how important it is to tune out the noise and live the way we want everyday.

A Tornado Touched Down by Mandy Rosko

A couple of them, actually. I live in the Ottawa area, and I’m lucky my place didn’t see any damage. We lost power for a couple of days and some power poles fell over, but not anywhere I could see from walking around my neighbourhood.

Some people lost their houses. I didn’t think we had tornados like that. I thought we just got the occasional wind storm. Someone told me they didn’t think we’d ever had a tornado, period.

So I’m counting my blessings. My apartment wasn’t damaged. The worse that happened was the screen door fell off, but that thing was on loose footing to begin with and can be put back on. Others in the city lost everything. Their houses, cars, clothes, anything the wind could take.

So I’m glad we didn’t get anything major in my area of town. I’m grateful I was able to go to my brother’s house to spend time since he’s got power, and I’m grateful to hear from my neighbors that power is back on in my building, so I can head back tomorrow and get back on track with my deadlines.

It was such a strange time. I didn’t know it was a tornado until later that night when I checked my phone, my apartment lit up by candles and fairy lights, and saw the news.

Wow.

My dad called to make sure we were all right, and I spent much of the next day charging my stuff at the mall which did still have power.

I’d never seen so many people in the hallways using any outlets they could get their hands on to charge their gadgets.

The more prepared of these people brought power strips they could plug into those outlets to give them more space for others to come in and share the plugs.

So this post doesn’t have anything to do with writing, but be grateful for the things you have, back up your work all the time, not just to USB sticks, but also to places like Dropbox, so if your computers ever get fried by the storm, you know your cover art, contacts, and works are safely stored where you can get to them after the fact.

You never know if your computers or even home could be gone in one night. Prepare for the worst, keep water bottles around, and have your phone charged so you know if a storm warning comes in, and just in case, buy that First Aid kit you’ve had your eye on but never picked up…

A Pixie Paranormal-Scope

Autumn is on our way, and the pixies are in their glory.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

The week for:

Aries:

Pixies love accessories in bright colors or that sparkle. Time to accessorize your wardrobe.

Taurus:

Pixes enjoy dancing most of all. Take a dance lesson or go to a party to show off your skills.

Gemini :

Poetry soothes the over-energized ways of the pixie. Indulge in poetry or literature that will soothe your heart into bliss. Visit a bookstore or library.

Cancer:

Pixies love nature. Take a walk and breathe in the air and enjoy the sights around you.

Leo:

Pixies enjoy fine items of clothing and trinkets. Make a gift to a friend who enjoys the same.

Virgo:

Have you crossed a Pixie? Pixies are usually good natured but if you made one mad, you might find you are not lost while traveling. Is your GPS in good order?

Libra:

A Pixie on a butterfly rushes past your head. You’ve just been sprinkled with Pixie dust and good fortune is coming your way.

Scorpio:

Pixies love to laugh. Get some funny movies. Laughter is supposed to be healthy for humans. It has managed to keep Pixies young looking and energized.

Sagittarius:

When Pixies are around, music fills the air. Add to your music collection and don’t use headphones or earbuds. Let it fill the air of your home.

Capricorn:

Cleaning up litter from a park will put in in good stead with the Pixies. They may give you an unexpected blessing.

Aquarius:

You can’t count on Pixies tidying up your house. It’s Fall clean the clutter time. You will better about it and ready for the holidays.

Pisces:

Fruit, cream, and fresh baked bread are some of Pixies’ favorite foods. What are yours? Indulge and gather some new recipes. Share your creations with others.

Fall Releases… By Ripley Proserpina

Today is the first day of Autumn. I know lots of people love this season.

Yay. I’m so excited for you.

I’m looking forward to releasing some different sorts of books this season. First off, I ventured into co-writing with one of my favorite authors, Rebecca Royce. Our book, Lightning Strikes, will release on November 1st.

True love refuses to die…

Whitney Lake has had a lot of time to contemplate the end of the world. In the blink of an eye, an infection wiped out most of the human population, and her life changed forever. In one of the few safe cities left, Whitney tries to keep her head down, and stay alive.

But the world needs saving, and she may be the only one who can do it.

When a letter from her long-dead best friend arrives, Whitney takes a chance. Can she save those she thought were lost?

Out in the wilderness, where she never dared to go, she’ll discover a world she never expected, and six men who would come back from the dead just to be with her.

Will she fight for the men who chose her, or will she lose everything in the coming storm?

Then in December (which is still technically fall), I’m part of a wonderful anthology called Petting Them. All the proceeds from this anthology will go to Pacific North Pets, an animal rescue.

**Charity Anthology. 100% of proceeds will go towards saving cats and dogs from kill shelters thanks to the incredible work of Pacific North Pets.**

Introducing eleven purrrrfect stories featuring strong women and the men that love them.

Inside these pages, you’ll find heartfelt and action-packed books that highlight the friendship between heroine and animal. From fun and thrilling paranormal romances to sexy and suspenseful contemporary reads, this box set has it all.

Thirteen of your favorite Reverse Harem authors have teamed up to bring you this limited edition collection benefitting Pacific North Pets. This charity’s primary focus is to rescue abandoned, at-risk, starving, and abused animals. Rescued animals receive veterinary care and are placed in permanent homes.

Help give these animals a second chance at finding their forever home while enjoying your next favorite book.

With every wish comes a curse…

Polya survived the Hunt, but Anatoliy did not. Now the citizens of Konstantin are rising up, revolting against the king who tortured them and the royals who allowed it to happen.

Mourning Anatoliy, Polya struggles to continue to fight. With Anatoliy’s dying breath, she finally made her wish, and still, the bear breathed his last.

Except, the devil heard Polya, and granted her wish.

Anatoliy lives, not as a bear, but as the soldier he was before he was cursed. Now, he has one mission—find Polya.

As Polya makes her away across Konstantin, Anatoliy gives chase, determined to find her. Faced with the ruin King Aleksandr wrought, and the anger of the people, Anatoliy and Polya strive to find each other and survive.

But Polya’s wish had a consequence, and the devil is biding his time. Will Polya and Anatoliy be reunited? Or will the revolution rise up, and drag them all into hell?

Preparing for the Holidays by Susan Hanniford Crowley

I love the holidays and we have so many approaching. If the snows can only hold off, so we can enjoy to the utmost. Some people cook. Some plan parties. I write books.

Here’s a little excerpt from the book:

“No,” Georgia whimpered at the hand reaching into the window display, yanking out the coat she’d stared at every day for three weeks–the thick brown and black, faux fur coat with the black hood. None of the other coats compared to that one with its elegant lines and obvious warmth. Georgia’s own coat was shabby. She shivered.

If only her credit cards weren’t maxed out. A tear streamed down her cheek before freezing on her face.

Then she saw the reflection. Every time she stopped at this window, his reflection would be there staring back. He stood about two feet behind her, so the image was shadowed. At first, she reasoned that perhaps he lived in the neighborhood and it was a coincidence. Maybe he was looking at coats for his mother or girlfriend. Maybe he was a stalker. She turned to leave.

Someone tapped her on the shoulder. Georgia gripped her bag strap and turned, then looked up. He was tall, broad shouldered, and compassion made his face kind. Bright green eyes gazed into hers. His warm brown hair was cut conservatively, which matched the new, dark brown coat.

“Are you all right?”

“Yes. I’m fine. Thank you.”

“You’re not fine. Please, let me help you.”

Instantly, she burst into a run and didn’t stop until she reached the donut shop across from her apartment. Sitting at a table, Georgia peeked through the window. He hadn’t followed her. Snowflakes floated down obscuring her vision. Maybe she overreacted. Maybe not. You couldn’t be too careful in New York. She got up and went to the counter to order coffee and donuts to go.

When she stepped outside again, the lights had come on up and down the street. It was beginning to look like Christmas. It could be so magical if it wasn’t so sad. Georgia figured that she would run out of money by New Year’s. What a way to start the New Year. Jobless. Homeless. Broke.

Georgia looked up and down the street but saw no sign of the man from the reflection and decided it was safe to cross the street to her apartment.

*

But is she safe? If you need to know, A Vampire for Christmas is available in  Kindle

In a week or so, I’m planning a surprise for everyone. I can’t tell you now. It’s not quite done.

In October, we will be having Halloween guests and contests scattered throughout the month.

I’ve been very SERIES-ous lately by Stacy Hoff

[image error]My mind is fixed on the calendar. Why? Because the last book of my Building Love series, MAD FOR YOU IN MADRID (Building Love #3), will be released October 10, 2018. I’m excited. And nervous. Releasing the end of a series is a little bit scary. Will my readers feel fulfilled? Or like my series failed them? (Cue ominous music.)

A writer releasing the end of a series is akin to a chef serving desert at the end of a three-course meal. No chef wants their guest to leave with a bad taste in their mouth. An unsatisfactory ending will cast doubts on the previous courses, no matter how delectable and satisfying they were. For a writer, that means that the last book in a series has to be the best. Otherwise people won’t clamor for more.

Am I neurotic? Sure! All authors are. It’s in our creative DNA. In fact, all authors have to sign the Writers Code and acting neurotic is stated in clause 3. (Okay, not really, but it often feels like this is the case.)

Here is the book blurb for MAD FOR YOU IN MADRID (Building Love #3). Think of it as my giving you the recipe for my piece de resistance!
