You Gotta Know When to Hold ‘Em… By Ripley Proserpina
Any of you gamble? I don’t, but I do love Oceans 11 and anything with Dean Martin! (If you know who Dean Martin is, high-five me).
Autumn Reed writes all sorts of amazing things, from suspenseful thrillers with mystery and reverse harem, to new adult contemporary. Her latest series, Risking It, is finishing up with the book, Defying the Odds. This three book series is hands-down glam, Vegas, and fun, with just a hint of the angst that I need to fill my dark little soul. This week, Autumn has answered my questions, and the final book in her series. Also, I’ve brought back the rapid fire round of randomness! Which is my favorite, and hopefully you don’t hate it either.
US: http://bit.ly/defyingtheodds
UK: http://bit.ly/ukdefyingtheodds
When the world bets against them, will the torrid foursome stand together or fall apart?
Now that Emma Harris has fully embraced her relationships with Cole, Shane, and Nicholas, things are looking up. She’s ready to finish college and embark on a new adventure with her incredible boyfriends.
But when the outside world interferes, her best-laid plans start to crumble. Will Emma be able to hold on to the ones she loves, or will she be forced to let them go?
When I was applying to colleges, UNLV wasn’t on my list. What made you send Emma all the way to Las Vegas to school?
Vegas isn’t an obvious choice for Emma, and that’s what I like about it. Emma is a good girl from the Midwest, but she’s naturally independent and dying to spread her wings. Ultimately, Vegas isn’t the catalyst for Emma finally opening up and figuring out what she’s made of–meeting Shane, Nicholas, and Cole is.
How important is Las Vegas in Emma’s story?
If Emma had met the Ts (Triple Triple Threats) somewhere else, the result would have eventually been the same. But I think the indulgent side of Vegas helps her accept the Ts and her relationships with them quicker.
In the third book, Defying the Odds, Emma has overcome a lot to accept her relationship with three guys. In what ways did you want to see Emma challenged in this final book?
By the end of book two, Emma has come around to accepting a real relationship with the Ts and being open about it. But she’s still stuck in the present. In book three, I wanted her to comprehend what a more permanent relationship with the Ts would look like and decide whether being with them was worth the struggles they would all face.
Are there any characters in Emma’s world that you think should have their own story?
Ever since writing the first scene with Simone, Emma’s best friend, I’ve loved her bold and fun-loving personality. She’s already hinted that she would like her own torrid foursome (or fivesome), and I think that story would be a really fun one to write.
Rapid Fire Round of Randomness
If you could only dress in styles from 1984 or 1994 which would you choose?
I already have the big hair, so 1984.
If you had no choice, which would you ride? A Segway or an electric scooter?
Electric scooter.
Would you rather be cold with no jacket or hot and stuck in jeans?
Cold, always.
Unicorns or Pegasus?
Can it be a purple pegasus?
Thanks for visiting, Autumn!
Love in Paris by Susan Hanniford Crowley
Though many of my vampire books are based in New York, it’s not unusual for them to start or end up or just romance in another city in the world. In Vampire Princess of New York, Noblesse loves New York, but being born French, she also loves Paris.
Background Photo of Paris by Alex Lopez on Unsplash
Being King Max’s daughter, Noblesse is often left in charge of New York’s vampires. Love has been elusive. In her book, two men claim to be her lifemate. There can only be one. For this post, I will focus on Noblesse in Paris. Donovan called her Noble, because that’s how he feels about her.
Besides having exciting adventures as my vampires usually do, the sightseeing is top notch. They go to The Louvre, Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, and the Catacombs. I’m sure I’m forgetting something. Oh, how can one forget the Moulin Rouge. Oh and the shopping, the churches, and cemeteries. Remember, they are vampires.
Here’s an excerpt of Parisian fun at their very VIP private tour of The Louvre.
The Aphrodite tour began with the Bather also known as Venus and then Cupid. Their guide, an older man with graying hair, regaled them with the stories of lovers of mythology. Every portrayal of love in stone seemed so alive. The delicate detail of hands in gesture or embrace. The turn of a head. The upturned corners of a shy smile. The tender gaze. Wings looked feathered and poised as if to take flight. She thought she caught a breath in the bodies carved so perfectly in stone, almost warm to the touch. To Noble they seemed frozen in time, as if at any moment they might awaken and burst through the covering to flesh, blood, and beating hearts. This tour ended with the sublime statue of the lovers Psyche and Cupid.
“After losing Cupid’s trust,” the guide explained, “Psyche had to accomplish tasks beyond the doing of the average human. Others who felt for her plight helped with advice along the way of her many trials. In the end she fell into a death-like sleep. Only Cupid’s kiss could awaken her. Jupiter gives Psyche the drink of immortality so she will be equal to Cupid and convenes their wedding.”
Everyone applauded the great ending to the Aphrodite tour.
She was made immortal so they could be together, Donovan thought to her.
Noble giggled, her sound so sweet and innocent that he had begun to crave it. So he made her a vampire?
They both laughed. Donovan quickly covered her mouth with a kiss. This allowed their non-vampire companions to join in the joviality.
Noble loved the feeling of serenity in the Louvre and didn’t mind the long halls between the galleries. She enjoyed Donovan’s hand in hers. His warm hand in a vampire world of cold.
The Masterpiece tour began with the Venus de Milo, and the Mona Lisa being second. They were examining the beauty of the sculpture, when Noble noticed the slightest movement behind the art.
A man, young and dark haired, dressed in contemporary clothing stood holding a sketchpad and pencil. He was not supposed to be there. The guards had checked the room before their entrance. The artist was pale as in not enough sun and malnourished. A deep silence embraced him as he looked at the statue and sketched. It was more than the silence of an artist engulfed by his art. He was a vampire, and his gaze went beyond the art to Noble and Donovan. In that moment, she wondered what he was sketching.
Ever so softly in her brain, she heard Jeanne whisper, Vampire. The Arnhem Knights closed formation around them. One of the Louvre’s security guards went over to him. A jovial conversation ensued and the guard and vampire walked out together. Noble quickly influenced two other guards to follow. She didn’t know what that vampire’s intent was, but she didn’t want to see a human death because of her.
A few minutes later, the three returned unscathed. Donovan entered her mind. Sha, did you just influence two guards? I didn’t know you could do that without having direct contact.
Father taught me a long time ago. I don’t like to ‘influence’ humans unless absolutely necessary.
The rest of the tour was insightful and fun. They stayed longest at their next stop, the Mona Lisa.
I don’t know. There’s something about her, and I can’t put my finger on it. Noble thought to Donovan.
They peered closer.
She was a vampire. That’s why no teeth are showing, Jeanne said in the softest mind whisper.
All the knights turned to Jeanne who giggled.
Noble smiled and leaned against Donovan. “Let’s continue on.”

Guest Author Samantha Wyatt by Stacy Hoff
Hello Passionate readers! Today I have special guest Samanthya Wyatt talking about her life as an author, and her new release, MIKE!
Ever since I can remember, I have loved curling up with a book. Once I found romance, I read every book I could get my hands on. Hubby being in the military, we traveled around a lot. I’ve lived all over the world raising my children and taking care of my family, so there was little money. When the boys were grown, I dabbled with a historical romance of my own.
I don’t have to tell any writer how difficult it is to find time to put words to paper, let alone create them in your mind. But I am finding, I do not have the time I thought I would to contribute to my writing.
My morning usually starts with a cup of Java. If I’m lucky, hubby gets up first and brings me a cup of coffee in bed. Mmmm. What a way to greet the day! My early hours can be anything from a lazy, relaxing morning—to a rush around, hurry to some appointment or other. Lately my anticipation of heading to my laptop for a few precious moments of picking my brain have been put on hold. We are planning a wedding.
Thank goodness, I have a hot new book out there and number two is soon on the way.
I’m talking about “The Firefighters of Station #8.”
I write hot, sizzling romance with a suspenseful episode in each book. My firefighter series has suspense from page one in the first book with the culprit getting caught in book five. Each book has its own romantic tale between the hero and heroine with a gratifying ending where the two overcome their fears of a relationship and find love.
I’m such a romantic at heart. I love creating couples and try my best to draw the reader into the characters emotions. I’m thrilled with the comments I’ve received of readers who enjoy my books. And that’s what it’s all about. Giving someone an experience where they can get lost in the pages of a romance. Let’s face it. With the problems we struggle in this world today, escaping to a fantasy, or taking a rewarding journey, lifts our spirit. We can imagine our own dream. My goal is to give someone and emotional, enjoyable read.
I also like to have fun. My hubby can be silly. And his playfulness has rubbed off on me. Who doesn’t like to laugh. I like creating sceneros in my stories that will make the reader laugh. Whether it’s romance, love, laughter, heartbreak, or getting the pants scared off you—just kidding—I love spinning a tale and hope I’ve managed the element of surprise. Don’t want the reader to be able to predict what will happen next.
The Doctor’s Bargain is due for release October 3rd. You can find more about me and my books here: http://samanthyawyatt.com/ You can also find me on facebook, twitter, linkedln, google, SMP and goodreads.
I’m thrilled to talk about my most recent release “MIKE”

Cassie Peters spends her days teaching children and her nights dreaming of Mr. Right. Shy and self-conscious of her curvaceous body, she keeps men at a distance—until she meets the sexy firefighter who keeps her awake at night.
Passionssoar and desires burn hot, yet each is afraid to surrender to love. Together, they overcome their fear of rejection, completely unaware there is a more dangerous peril. A thirst for vengeance threatens the firefighters of Station #8 placing Mike and Cassie directly in the line of fire.

Would you like a sneak peek at an excerpt?
“Christ. Pull over.”
“What the hell do you think I’m trying to do?” Jared snapped.
When the truck jerked to a stop, Mike grabbed the handle and flung open the door. “There’s gear in the back.”
Jared called dispatch while Mike ran to the tailgate. He flipped the latch and jerked open the tool chest where he kept spare equipment for emergencies. He grabbed a set of fireproof gloves and jogged to the burning SUV. “Move those people back!” Flames threatened to send them all to hell, but a woman’s echoing screams chilled him to his bones.
“This is going to be a bitch with the truck on its side,” Jared shouted.
The job would be risky enough even with a fire crew and proper equipment. They couldn’t wait. Mike grabbed a hunk of metal and jerked. The vehicle wobbled, but held. Watching his footing, he climbed.
Jared crouched as close to the driver’s window as he could, calling out to the woman. “We’re with the fire department. Trucks and rescue will be here any second. We’re going to get you out.”
Mike crawled over the metal, now hot from the flames escaping beneath the hood. Thankfully, the window on the passenger’s side was down. He stuck his head inside, finding a young female he guessed to be about nineteen.
“Hi. My name is Mike and I’m going to get you out. What’s your name?”
“Sandy. Please help me.” She shoved hair from her face, exposing terror filled eyes—but not panic. Victims who panicked were unpredictable, and most times, a dangerous lot. Fatalities occurred from freaked-out people who lost control. The tone of her voice exhibited strength. She might be anxious, but she’d asked for his help and her eyes begged him to rescue her.
“I will. Now listen carefully and do exactly what I say.” He took in every factor, from the top of her head to the bits of broken glass sprinkled about the cab—on the seats, on the dash and across her lap. Thank Christ, she was the only occupant. Blood trickled down her forehead. From his position, and the way she moved, he suspected no broken bones, no sign of a fatal injury. “First. Are you all right? Can you tell if anything is broken?”
She glanced down and whimpered. “I don’t think so. My hip and my arm hurts like hell. I slammed on my side. I hit my head, too. All I can see is smoke. Please. Get me out!”
“Take it easy.” He crawled inside, as far as his size allowed, with most of his body braced on the car door. “Can you move?”
She stretched awkwardly at first. “Yes. But I can’t reach the latch of my seatbelt.”
Shit.
The clock was ticking and he didn’t have time for mishaps. He jerked off his gloves and tugged on the seatbelt strap. It didn’t budge.
“Try pulling on the steering wheel and lift your hips. Hold yourself up as much as you can.”
She grabbed the wheel and seemed unable to move. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she started to cry.
“Come on, Sandy. I know you can do it.” Sweat dripped from his nose. Heat from the flames crawled closer and he feared time was running out.
The click of the latch resounded like a gunshot to his impatient ears. He reached for her. “Take my hands. I’ll pull you up.”
A look of horror crossed her face. “What? How? I don’t …”
“Move it,” Jared shouted, which meant move your ass.
“Take my hands. Now!”
When she extended her trembling arms, Mike stretched. “A little more.”
Tears streamed down her face. “I’m … trying.”
Dammit. A little more.
“Mike!”
“Come on, Sandy! Reach!”

I was in the drive way last week and my neighbor shouted at me as she was getting in her car. “Samanthya. Mike was great. Hurry up and finish the next one. I didn’t tell her my editor has it now. Woo Hoo. It feels so good when someone shares their praise of one of my books. I hope you will try one and enjoy.
Spare time? Who has any, right?
One of the things I look forward to is spending time with hubby. He had been my main support during my writing career. Cruising in our 1969 Mustang convertible is just one of the perks. This very weekend is a huge “5th Annual Truck and Auto Show” at Expo in Fishersville, Virginia. We will be there along with hundreds of other show vehicles. Then we’ll come home and take a few minutes to unwind, and I’m sure I will pick up a book for a few minutes of reading before bed. My dayis not complete without a kiss from my hubby goodnight.
Thanks to Stacy for having me as a guest today. She is such a nice person.
Remember: Lay the worries of the world off your shoulders and get lost in the pages of a romance, where you embark on a journey with the hero and heroine, become involved in a dream, plunge into a world of fantasy, live an adventure your heart can share …

Relax and Rejuvenate
First off, I have to apologize as due to technical difficulties, I haven’t posted a blog in about 3 weeks. That being said, I’m back and hope to be blogging as scheduled.
Do you remember the last time you felt completely refreshed. I recently came back from vacation and am marveling out how refreshed I feel. It has strangely made me super productive and motivated. This sounds like common sense but my reason for asking this question to begin with is because I find it rare that working folks (and especially parents) take time for themselves to relax and rejuvenate. Even in speaking to retirees, I find it frequent that they are stressed out about some issue or another. Most often than not, these issues involve their families and concern about the future or their financial wellbeing.
So, why do we do this to ourselves? I don’t have the answer to that but I can tell you that in this fast paced world, it is very easy for us to simply forget ourselves. We tend to put work and our families first. I had a conversation with my mom this past week and she mentioned getting Lasik surgery. Now I’ve been wearing contacts since I was 11 and the thought of not using them anymore sounds amazing, but when it comes to shelling out several thousand dollars (and I realize the price has come down) to pay for my eyes, I just find it hard to justify spending that on me. And I really don’t think I’m the exception to the rule.
What I will stress after these couple weeks on vacation is the need for us to think big picture. Going back to my Lasik example, several years of contacts would more than pay for my surgery so while I am shelling out money in the short-term, I’d make it up in the long-term and that would benefit my family. The same thing comes for us taking time to relax and rejuvenate yourself. Sure it may cost money to do so, but the benefits your family and friends with reap as they deal with a happy you may be well worth it. Not to mention, you will probably find your productivity goes up.
Happy writing this week!

Some Reads for the Final Days of Summer…By Ripley Proserpina
I’m holding onto summer with grabby little hands, and one of the ways I do this is by reading every chance I get. I love slathering on the sunblock in order to sit outside with my book. These days, the moments of summer are bittersweet, because I can’t help thinking, this time next week, I’m back at work.
And I love my day job, but compared to summer?
No contest.
In the next few weeks, there are some great books coming out I plan on reading, so I thought I’d share them with you.
(Click on the cover for buy links).
First, Tate James has finished her Kit Davenport series. Here’s the final one…
The time is now.
It seems all I’ve ever wanted was vengeance. I did everything right: I protected my friends, I pushed myself to the limits, and I saved lives. Once upon a time, I was an internationally renowned thief known as The Fox. Nobody knew me. Nobody could catch me.
Nobody but them, my men, my partners in crime. But their love for me, it’s cost them dearly.
Our enemies keep coming for blood. They cut me. They hurt my friends. They push and push to see what will happen.
I’m Kit Davenport, and I’m going to show them what happens.
This is the end.
Theirs.
Cecelia Randell, who has one of the best names for a character ever, also finished up her series, The Adventures of Blue Faust.
When the adventures are both big and small…
Blue and her guys have survived a crazed, crystal-wielding almost-mass murderer. Well, two of them in fact.
Now she faces something almost just as intimidating for her: going back to school.
On top of that, there’s apartment hunting, more language lessons, a grumpy Beast-mount, unruly cubs, and oh, yeah, she still needs to deal with her extended family.
It’s quite a list, but with the help of her husbands, she’ll be able to tackle it all, including the possibility of adding to their little family.
But when a new and deadly drug surfaces, pulling them all into another investigation and adventure, Blue will need to jump into life as a probationary agent of the Order much earlier than anticipated.
Oh, yeah, and there will be carnage. Kitty-carnage that is…
And finally, AJ Anders and Amanda Perry have a co-authored work releasing.
Fangers, Furries, and Fruit Flies, Oh My!
The world has been segregated for years. Supernatural beings and humans don’t mix. With an uneasy truce in place, both sides have allowed their fear of the unknown to morph into an uncompromising hatred for all those who are different. Each species police their own, and territorial boundaries are never crossed. Now, for the first time in history, the three ruling houses of the most powerful supernatural nations have become united. When the possibility of one ruling Council becomes a reality, a new prophecy comes to light. In order for the Council to succeed, humans must have representation in the council. Reid Matthews, the Alpha of the North American shifter territory and his new chosen brothers, Elijah Thornhill and Noah LeRoi, aren’t willing to tempt fate by ignoring the prophecy. They issue an invitation for humans to join the council. College student, Remy Stevens, has lived her whole life in one town. Now, thanks to her father’s new job, Remy Stevens is about become one of the first humans to cross the boundary in over one hundred and fifty years. Forced to make the journey with her family, what happens when she’s thrown into life on supernatural territory? Will her short temper and unrelenting wit be her downfall? Or will secret prophecies, both old and new, shape a new path for her? Find out where it all started in this prequel with Remy, Reid, Elijah, and Noah.

Jake Carter is on a mission–to prove his family wrong. He may have bought a troubled horse, but he’s hired Ryder Hannon, a “horse whisperer,” to get his horse back on track. She’s more than just a trainer to him, she’s the woman he’s been looking for.
Ryder Hannon, a thoroughbred horse trainer, has a big problem–fighting her fear of racing again. Her emotional scars run deeper than her physical ones. But her romantic feelings toward handsome, uber-rich, stable owner Jake Carter is a bigger problem. Is Jake truly in love with her or is he using her to get back at his smug family?

Preparing for the Future by Mandy Rosko
One of the things every writer needs to take care of from time to time is the future. We’re the only ones in charge of our finances, of whether or not we put more of our work out into the world or less. We are the ones in charge of how many hours we do or don’t put in, so every once in a while we should stop, look up at what we’ve got going on and make a plan.
For me, that plan involves looking at what I currently owe on my business credit card, what I would like to keep putting away for the future, books I want to put out in 2019, and schooling.
I’m still hoping I can grab a spot in that art school in September, but I’m also hoping to get a part time job back at the book store so I can put the extra money onto my credit card.
If sales remain steady, then if I’m lucky, I can make one more trip out next year to RWA in New York, keep my credit card fairly low before paying it off entirely, and pay off the majority of what I’ll owe for the art program I want to take.
I don’t want it to just be a seasonal job either. If I can, I’d love to get something part time year round. I’ve got my eye on a couple of places, and once I’m through with this cold I’ll be more comfortable with sending out my resumes, but I think this needs to happen. It would let me get more funds put aside for things I need, and want :), and when it comes to how many books I want to put out into the world, knowing there’s an extra pool of funds coming in will allow me to work a little harder to put out the audio books I want without relying too heavily on my Patreon funds for that.
Last year when I got my winter job at Coles, I did it for a couple of reasons, the first being that I genuinely like working for Coles. It’s also one of my favorite stereotypes. A writer working in a bookstore
