Party Party Party Paranormal-Scope

The summer will be ending soon!  There’s still time to plan or go to a party. Don’t forget to visit my party today. I’ll be there at 7 pm Eastern Time. Click the banner below to go there.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

The week for:

Aries:

Big Foot enjoys partying under the stars. Check out camping in your area or visiting a group that views the stars through telescopes. If you just can’t go out, call friends over for a movie night!

Taurus:

Zombies like those waterparks with a lazy river. They don’t bring sunblock and a hat but you will want to pack those things. Party as you float along!

Gemini :

Sirens are all into music. Go to a show or concert with friends. Make a night of it with dinner before or after.

Cancer:

Vampires think the mystery dinners are fun. There’s nothing so enjoyable as solving a murder you didn’t do.

Leo:

Mermaid enjoy event parties like scavenger hunts for things that are pre-placed with a prize to win. Get together with friends and creat a fun hunt.

Virgo:

Pixies love to group together for garden tours. It’s a kind of party that includes lunch. Get out and get some exercise and soothe the mind at the same time.

Libra:

Werebears are all into pool parties. Make sure to always have someone on guard at that pool. Watch your food choices!

Scorpio:

Faeries often plan “bean” parties. I’m talking jelly beans, candy and desserts. Try to eat at this party in moderation.

Sagittarius:

Dragons are all into the food. Try some new recipes and invite friends or family over.

Capricorn:

Vampires travel to party. Two can make a party too. Plan a destination together and give yourself time to relax and take in the sights.

Aquarius:

Shapeshifters go for the unusual activity party. Go bowling, or to a wine tasting, or painting as a group. Pick something you’ve always wanted to do or do again.

Pisces:

Werewolves love to party. Pick out some dance music for your next party and organize a potluck. The idea is to have fun and not stress.

One, Two, Three, Hahaha…by Ripley Proserpina

On Wednesday, August 1st, I will published the final book in my vampire series, Midnight’s Crown.

Finishing a series is bitter sweet, but it’s mostly nerve-wracking as I hope (fingers crossed, toes crossed, hair braided) that people are happy with the conclusion. Endings are tough,  man, and I’m suddenly feeling guilty for all the complaining I’ve done about other endings (though, I still feel like Jo March and Laurie should have ended up together in Little Women. I won’t apologize for that).

Anyhoo…. here is the blurb and a little tidbit bit for you!

Slowly, Briar climbed the stairs toward the door. She wanted to fly up them, rip the door off the hinges and bury her face in the source of the scent, but she was afraid.

At the top step, her energy drained away and she fell to her knees. Hollowed out, she couldn’t knock, couldn’t call out. Her body was a desiccated shell.

Help. She couldn’t push the words past her swollen throat. Exhausted, Briar let her head fall to her knees. Marcus. Valen. Sylvain. Hudson. Find me.

As if they’d heard her, the door opened. Warm light and the scent of them filled the night. It took every bit of energy she had, but she tipped her head back until she could meet their beautiful eyes.

She almost didn’t recognize them. Their faces were bleak, devoid of expression with eyes as empty as she felt inside, but when they saw her, they changed.

Disbelief.

Confusion.

Hope.

Briar wanted to wrap them in her arms, but she couldn’t move. She was weighed down with something that made movement impossible. If she didn’t fill up and slake this thirst, she’d die.

Again.

She swallowed hard. With the last bit of energy she had, she whispered, “Marcus. I’m thirsty.”

Marcus moved fast. She remembered a time when she wouldn’t have been able to track his movement, but now she could. He reached over Sylvain, sweeping her into his arms. He buried his face in her neck and breathed her in. “Briar. Briar. Oh, God.”

They rushed into the living room, but he didn’t let her go. The others crowded around her. Hudson knelt by her, pushed back her hair, and studied her face. “You’re alive.” His voice broke, and his icy-blue eyes filled with pain. “How are you alive?”

She’d lost her voice, used up the last of it speaking to Marcus, so she shook her head. She kept her hand wrapped around her throat as if it would ease the ache, and Hudson’s eyes widened.

“Marcus. Blood,” he whispered.

Save the Date! Having a Party with A Contest on July 30th!

You are invited to the party. I’m doing a Winner’s Choice prize of available books on July 30th at The Romance Studio. You do have to enter over there. https://trsparties.com  I love their sign. It makes me want to go collect sea shells (which is one of my hobbies).

The Romance Studio is a multi-author party with lots of contests to enter. I do one contest on my own through the posts there, and I have also donated to the contest that The Romance Studio runs for me when a person enters the site. The site is in a blog format. I will do my first blog post at 7 pm Eastern Time on July 30th. On that blog post, I’ll explain the contest rules and how to enter and also tell you when I will be posting. One way to always find my posts is to type my name in the Search box at the top right.

Remember save the date!

Author Joanne Guidoccio Explores Creativity by Stacy Hoff

Hello Passionate Readers! Today on Nights of Passion I have author Joanne Guidoccio talking about how she plugs into writing!

On Exploring Creativity

At a recent workshop, one woman commented, “Everything you’ve suggested sounds great, but what if you’re not naturally creative. What happens then?” Several other participants nodded in agreement and looked to me for answers.

I didn’t want to get into a lengthy discussion about whether or not creativity was an innate trait. Instead, I suggested that it was never too late to explore creativity and launch second, third, and fourth acts in life. I then shared three strategies that have helped me on my writing journey.

Listen to the God (or Goddess) nudges in your life.

If we choose to stay open, we will receive messages from the universe. I’m not referring only to angels, butterflies, and other winged messengers. There are clues in our lives that point to what will bring us joy. My first nudge came from a friend, who suggested I send a travel essay to a local newspaper. I followed her advice and, to my delight, the newspaper featured my essay and pictures in a two-page spread. When I attended readings and workshops within a 60-mile radius, I learned about local and regional opportunities for budding writers.

I have also acquired the habit of reading notices on bulletin boards and the Events sections in newspapers. Anything that catches my interest is worth pursuing. I also find inspiration on social media, in particular, Twitter and Pinterest. In November of 2012, I noticed a tweet from a small publisher on my Twitter feed. I took action and sent a query letter. The editor responded, and I had a book contract by the end of January.

Listen to Your Inner Critic

I realize this is contrary to all the advice that’s out there. But there is something to be gained by analyzing the selected thoughts of our inner critic and taking action.

How can you distinguish those selected thoughts? Very simply, take note of all sentences that start with “Someone should…”

Here are some examples:

“Someone should write a letter to the editor about that issue. It’s bugging me.”

“Someone should organize an arts festival that showcases the talents of boomer artists, artisans, musicians, and writers in our county.”

“Someone should put her name forward for an executive position on that board. We need new blood.”

“Someone should design and create clothes that fit and flatter women over fifty.”

“Someone should offer decorating services for seniors, who are moving into assisted living, retirement and nursing homes, or downsizing to a condo.”

“Someone should run for mayor.”

Once you have identified your favorite “Someone should,” it’s time to…

Take action…any action

Entering the political arena, assuming an executive role in a non-profit organization, organizing an arts festival, writing a novel…these are all goals that can be accomplished but probably not within the immediate future. Why not set small, move-the-needle steps for the season in which you are in. These small steps will lead to larger ones, and subsequent steps will always be within your grasp.

You could start by attending an information meeting, offering to help with an established arts festival, signing up for an online or offline course, joining a local writing group, or listening to a webinar. Don’t worry if certain steps don’t work out. Keep moving forward and course-correct along the way.

Good luck!

Blurb for A DIFFERENT KIND OF REUNION

While not usually a big deal, one overlooked email would haunt teacher Gilda Greco. Had she read it, former student Sarah McHenry might still be alive.

Suspecting foul play, Constable Leo Mulligan plays on Gilda’s guilt and persuades her to participate in a séance facilitated by one of Canada’s best-known psychics. Six former students also agree to participate. At first cooperative and willing, their camaraderie is short-lived as old grudges and rivalries emerge. The séance is a bust.

Determined to solve Sarah’s murder, Gilda launches her own investigation and uncovers shocking revelations that could put several lives—including her own—in danger. Can Gilda and the psychic solve this case before the killer strikes again?

Excerpt for A DIFFERENT KIND OF REUNION

“Gilda, could you drop by tomorrow?” Constable Mulligan said, his voice cracking. “I’d like to wrap up this investigation as soon as possible. Give her parents some closure.”

Did he think he could wrap it up in a day? And what on earth could I contribute to the investigation? It didn’t make any sense at all. “Uh…I’m sorry. I’m having trouble with all of this. I don’t know—”

He cleared his throat. “We could meet for lunch at Trapper’s Choice Restaurant. They have fresh pickerel on Fridays.”

RWA Denver by Mandy Rosko

My first RWA was great. I’m going to try getting into a little more detail than that, obviously, lol, but I am glad I went.I met some authors in real life that I’ve never met before but have worked with online, got to hang out and follow them around as they went to some great workshops, found out about a new audio service that I’ll soon be using, and a whole slew of other fun things.

I was a little sad that I couldn’t go to RT this year, but I can only pick one big trip like that. The cash just isn’t there for more than one flight to the USA. Then it turned out that this year was the last RT there would ever be, and yeah, it was a downer. I brought my Kathryn Falk book with me to RWA in case she happened to be there, but to no luck.

I’ll be seeing if there’s any assistant of hers that I can contact and a PO Box to send the book to with a self addressed stamped envelope so I can get her to sign it. Of all the RTs I’ve ever been so, it never occurred to me to bring her book to sign until it was too late.

But RWA was still fun, everything was writer focused with the exception of, I suppose, the book signings. You could count those as reader focused, and you’ll be happy to know that I was very good. I went to a couple of signings, but not all of them, and I did my best to limit my number of books so I could still fit them into my small suitcase and use one of the totes we were given as a carry on.

I’m more used to stuffing a whole second suitcase full of books, so I count this as a win

Putting the “FAIR” Back in Fairytales…By Ripley Proserpina

Two more days!!

While Beauty Sleeps releases on Tuesday and I CAN’T WAIT for it to be read. Sometimes writers will say, “I had so much fun writing this book,” and that was one-hundred percent true for this story. There was something so freeing about having the story, but twisting it in my own way. Of course, I added the reverse harem, but I also started to think about beauty. Personally, books where a guy falls in love with a girl because she’s beautiful just aren’t my preference. But there are different kinds of beauty, and I really wanted to explore what was beautiful about a person, and how it could attract someone instantaneously.

Here’s a small excerpt from the story, and then some fun little quizzes (because you know me, quiz-a-holic) to celebrate the story!

Which combination of Two Disney Princess are you?

Which Disney Princess is Your Dog?

If I had one complaint about my sister, Aoi, it was this—she never gave me enough time. I didn’t want to start the whole meet and greet thing over again. I wanted to be left alone.

Stepping away, I fixed my gaze on the piano. I reached out, touching the keys and pressed down softly. “They did.”

“They’re really cute.”

I shrugged. I didn’t really care about cute. Objectively, I recognized which princes had been handsome, but it was secondary to what really mattered—would they like me?

As long as my sisters reeled them here with the promise of riches, then I’d never really trust them. And as long as they ran like gazelles when they saw my face, I’d know however much they grew to like me, it didn’t cancel out my ugliness.

All the money in the world didn’t matter. It certainly hadn’t been enough for Eziō or Hideto.

“How much are you offering?” I asked and Aoi winced. Striding back to the bench, I tried to ignore the bubbling anger welling in my chest. “How much, Aoi?”

“You’re getting closer to twenty-one.” As if I didn’t know that. As if my birthday wasn’t circled in red with huge arrows pointing at the date that grew closer and closer.

“How. Much?”

“Fuyumi, Miori, and I all added our trusts to the dowry.” I’d read about people’s knees going weak, but I’d never experienced it before. Now I did. They wouldn’t hold me up, and if it hadn’t been for the piano bench, I would have fallen.

“You didn’t.”

“We don’t need it.” Aoi shrugged again, like it was no big deal. But this money was supposed to pay for whatever it was they wanted to do with their lives—school, vocation, travel. It was enough to get them started or to sock away for their children.

And grandchildren, depending on how financially savvy they were.

Either way, it was way too much money to give away.

“It doesn’t work that way, you know,” I said. I tried to keep the self-pity out of my voice, but it trembled before I could clear my throat. “It’s supposed to be true love’s kiss. Not, ‘makes sound financial decision’s kiss.’ Not, ‘takes one for the team’s kiss.’”

“The Time Has Come to Talk of Many Things”

Photo by Susan Kirsch on Unsplash

“The time has come,’ the Walrus said,

To talk of many things:

Of shoes — and ships — and sealing-wax —

Of cabbages — and kings —

And why the sea is boiling hot —

And whether pigs have wings.'”
A verse from the poem The Walrus and the Carpenter by Lewis Carroll
The entire poem was featured in the book Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There by Lewis Carroll.

I chose this beginning to talk about how my life has become multi-faceted and what’s going on with me. I’m going to make a list. Part of that is to keep it all straight for me.

1. I’m going to be part of a party at The Romance Studio and do a giveaway. This is coming up soon.

2. I have a new book with a publisher. It’s all in progress.

3. Vampire King of New York is going through re-editing before it gets it’s new cover.

4. I’m writing another vampire romance

5. I have a Young Adult novel to edit and another is being written.

6. I have partials and outlines of several more books: a science fiction novel, a time travel novel, notes for a steampunk romance, and I’m hoping to get back on track for a zombie book.

I’m dreaming several dreams at night, and each day I race to write down as much as I can on whichever one I’ve dreamed about. I am writing as fast as I can. During all this, we are expecting a new member of the family soon. I’m very excited.

Because I’m working on so many different things, I thought that part of the poem explains it perfectly. I’m definitely living in a Wonderland, and I’m glad you’ve come along for the fun, too.

Rhonda Frankhouser On Writing Full-Time By Stacy Hoff

Hello Passionate readers! Today on Nights of Passion I have Rhonda Frankhouser  talking about being a full-time author.

What’s it really mean to be a Full-Time Writer?

To a person driven by the written word, being able to write full time sounds like a dream come true. I know it did to me. I prayed for the day I would finally be able to give up that dreaded day job that sapped nearly every creative flicker from my brain to pursue writing as a career. And then that day came.

I was beside myself with excitement. If I could put out two novels a year as a part time writer, then I should easily crank out five, maybe ten best sellers a year writing full time. Yeah – well. What I found when I stepped into the world of whatever I wanted to do was a complete lack of organization.  I’ve always thrived under a strict schedule. Eat, sleep, work, write, shower, eat and sleep again. Once I could mix those elements up as I saw fit, I found my schedule looking more like eat, eat, sleep, sleep, walk around and move things around, eat, think about writing, then eat and sleep again.

I knew I was floundering but I gave myself a little break, saying after fifteen years of non-stop occupational stress, I should be able to fiddle around a little. Drink three cups of coffee into the afternoon. Hang out in my pajamas until an hour before my husband was due home. And then I looked at the scale and the mirror and said, ‘you need structure sister or you’re never gonna make a go of this full time writer thing.’

The truth was I felt less significant not bringing in a regular income. Guilty that I’d given up a lucrative career to pursue a dream, I couldn’t help but think that I wasn’t contributing like I should. It wasn’t expected that I make money writing right away, as long as I was working at a ‘real job,’ bringing in ‘real’ money. I admit it – I put the pressure on myself. My family and friends didn’t think less of me, rather they thought I was brave and adventurous. It was all me.

I turned the corner when my husband and I moved from California to Georgia. No one knew me there. No one knew I’d worked in hospice care or that I had a whole life built around that profession back in California. I forced myself to say, hello, I’m Rhonda Frankhouser and I’m an author, when new people would introduce themselves. To my great surprise, I was met with amazement and envy. “Oh how can you write a book, it’s so hard? I have lots of ideas but there’s no way I could ever get it all organized in my head and down on paper.”

Over and over, different variations of that conversation. I started to swell with pride at my new profession. They were right – writing IS hard work and it IS a gift not everyone gets. Being a full time author is a something to be proud of – even if the money isn’t flowing in – yet. So I had one side of my subconscious satisfied, but that still didn’t make me organized. That I had to do on my own.

So – I started putting together a goal sheet that lined out what I wanted to accomplish daily, weekly, monthly and annually. I’m sure other authors out there all know this secret, but it was a new concept to me for this side of my world. It was a loose structure to be sure, but a structured schedule all the same. It helped me make writing my ‘job’ rather than just my passion. I opened a bank account for my writing business and set up a separate email, webpage, Facebook page, Twitter, etc. that was all business all the time. For Rhonda – the published author.

It helped. It made me rethink my impression of myself as a professional writer. Once that happened I started taking myself and my craft more seriously.

Have I made a million bucks or sold a zillion copies of my books yet? No, but as my very wise father always used to say, if you stuff the pipe with all your efforts, blood, sweat and tears, sooner or later good things will start coming out the other end. All I can do is trust his word, and continue to love writing.

Understanding Ourselves

I spoke with an older friend this week who “chastised” herself for being such a worrier and I couldn’t help but laugh because the scolding she gave herself sounded very much like myself on occasion as I realize I over worry most of the time. Seeing as this friend of mine is 86, I can’t imagine she will change this trait of her within her lifetime. I haven’t even lived half as long as she has and yet I don’t believe my days of worry are over any time soon.

I could ask the question why we spend so much time worrying but truth be told, I don’t think all of us do. I believe some of us merely float through life without worries while others, spend an over proportionate time worrying. And neither is really wrong or right (unless it begins to impact us in other ways), it just is.

In fact, while I do believe that over worrying can become a problem, I also believe some degree of worry is healthy. It shows we care and depending on what we worry about, it shows us that some things are more important to us than other things or people. In fact, I do believe if we slowed down to really understand ourselves and how we feel, we’d probably be a lot more in tune with who we are. It sounds funny, but it really is easy to just exist on auto-pilot. We all have our sort of routines that at times, don’t require much thought. Stopping to understand the routines, our worries, our thoughts and what goes along with them can provide endless insight.

Happy writing this week!
