The Stars At Night…By Ripley Proserpina

…are big and bright! *clap*clap*clap*clap* Deep in the heart of Texas!

I’m going south y’all! This Vermonter is headed farther south than I’ve ever been. And I can’t wait! Now, I’ve heard it’s hot in August in Texas, but we shall see. Whenever I travel south of Boston, I seem to bring the cold with me.

This is going to be a friend-visiting, writing-retreating, sight-seeing extravaganza of Texas sized proportions! The last gasp of my summer, if you will, because when I get back, it’ll be time for school. But at least, I can go in my cowgirl boots.

Even quizzes are bigger in Texas. Take this one to see how Texas you are:)

Guest Blog: About Heaven-Sent Warrior by Nancy Lee Badger

Nights of Passion is proud to welcome paranormal romance author Nancy Lee Badger!

What is my story about? In a nutshell, it goes something like this…Asleep inside a [image error]bronze statue, a naked Frenchman wakes a century later to save a half-Fae art museum curator from a demon bent on ruling our present-day world. I discovered a local museum filled with bronze castings by the French sculptor, Auguste Rodin. Part of the museum’s attractiveness is their outdoor garden and reflecting pool. An idea hit me…what if demons slipped from that pool? What if warriors slept inside statues, and awakened to fight them? My 24th book, Heaven-Sent Warrior, is now a reality.

Book Blurb for Heaven-Sent Warrior

Henrí Chevalier’s last memory, before stumbling naked into a museum’s moonlit garden, was Auguste Rodin and his dusty Paris studio in 1886. To escape his broken heart, Henrí volunteered to sleep inside a statue until needed. Expecting to die, he discovers he must learn to use the unexpected powers Heaven has given him. Without them he will fail his mission against otherworldly creatures, such as demons and faeries.

Kenzie Mackintosh, a dedicated art museum’s curator, spies a naked man hiding among bronze statues. A quick glance ignites desire within her, but she is too tied-up in work to act on it. Unaware of her fae heritage, their relationship heats up as he disrupts her job. While Henrí tries to process modern buildings, cars, and a broken elevator, a demon attacks and forces Henrí and Kenzie to enlist the aid of her powerful fae relatives. When the demon possesses the body of her ex-lover and threatens to kill him, then use her to take over the world, Henrí and Kenzie must learn to trust each other, even if Kenzie’s death might be the only answer to the world’s salvation.

Excerpt

Kenzie’s gaze flit toward the door, then back to him. “Are we safe?”

“The spells I neglected to use are now in place. Whatever fell down those stairs ran off. Tomorrow, I shall return to the museum and search for its human host.”

“You can do that?”

“I felt the warning as it approached. I have confidence I will feel it tomorrow, but my instincts are . . . unsettled.” Standing in front of her, Henrí cupped her cheek with one hand and placed the other on her waist.

“Um, was there something else?”

“Preparedness is best fashioned in solitude, but I do not want to say good-night.” Henrí’s eyes drew nearly shut as he leaned closer. “Lie with me.”

Is he serious?

Kenzie couldn’t get her mouth to work, but she knew the second he’d read her thoughts, because he nodded, then kissed her. She strove to be fearless and confident, but everything flew out the door when he slipped his tongue into her mouth. In the next two seconds, she’d either sink into his embrace and never stop kissing him back, or run.

“Stay with me tonight, mon ange,” he whispered.

He’d drawn his luscious mouth back a few inches, but his words sounded . . . familiar.

“It means my angel, since you have the look of the heavens in your lovely hair and exquisite eyes. You taste like ambrosia.”

“The mythical food of the gods?” she asked. She wanted to fan her face, but she’d locked her hands around Henrí’s neck.

“There is only one true God, mon ange.”

Kenzie nodded as her fingers tangled in his hair and pulled his mouth back down to hers. Anything to keep from considering the circumstances.

She withdrew, sucking in a breath. Circumstances? She had her tongue down a stranger’s throat after someone, whom Henrí called a demon, had nearly broken into her home. The feelings, sweeping her better judgment away, were foreign.

Oui, I am French,” he whispered.

“Stop doing that.”

Time, Time, Time. See What’s Become of Me…By Ripley Proserpina

You know how people will say, “I’m a morning person?” Or, “I’m a night owl?” And there are all these ways to figure out when you are most productive? Well. I recently figured out my golden period of productivity, and let’s just say, it’s not great.

I’ve always known I’m not a morning person. But I also don’t like to sleep beyond 7:30.

And I’ve known I’m not a night owl, because I want to be asleep by 9:30.

In case you’re thinking, “She’s just old…” I will let you know, I was born old. In elementary school, I used to put myself to bed. When other little kids liked to stay up late on summer nights because it was still light, I’d check the clock on the microwave and be like, “Well… that’s it for me.”

Recently, around 7:30 in the evening, I noticed I was getting this little burst of energy. I was ready to write, and if I did, I was super productive. I could bang out words like…someone way faster than I usually am.

The problem is in my family, 7:30 is not great for alone time. There’s dinner and snacks and neighbors and dogs and husbands (as an aside, there is only one husband…even if I do write reverse harem) coming home from work.

Anyway—even if I don’t get to be productive during that time, at least I know when it is. Perhaps in the future, I won’t feel guilty when I can only get a few pages of writing done during the day, because, duh, it’s not my brain’s favorite.

That’s a good excuse, right?

Curious about your most productive time? Here’s a quiz!

Author KD DuBois, Stories, and Stones by Stacy Hoff

Hello Passionate readers! Today I have author KD DuBois talking about her new release, Daughter of the South Wind.

In my opinion, Facebook does something right—the occasional revisit of a photo from an old post. You never know when their algorithm will do it, so it’s always a pleasant walk down memory lane when it happens. This morning during my daily breakfast social media review, I got one of those gems—a much younger version of myself before the ruin of an ancient castle on a cliff overlooking the North Sea.

The image flooded my brain with a collage from that week-long trip to Scotland, all the hikes and castles, which by chance happened to follow the whiskey trail. But for as much as I enjoyed climbing through medieval ruins, I focused then on visiting as many stone circles as I could find. And when hunting such items of antiquity, who else to hire for help other than a practitioner of Druidry? Oh yes, I did. Because more than anything else, I love old rocks. Really old rocks. The kind that make you wonder how on earth primitive man mined, moved, and set such large boulders, especially when I can’t even move a wheel barrel full of topsoil.

The modern Druid took me to more stone circle sites than I could keep track of. I got lessons on energy and meditation to feel said energy, but try as I might, could never feel what he did. Unless you call falling asleep in the sun while leaning on one of those rocks an energy experience. But my lack of sensory awareness didn’t detract me from enjoying the day. What really struck me was how some of the formations in those stone circles resembled the Neolithic dolmen I once came across in southwestern France.

Over thirteen hundred miles separated the two areas, yet ancient man managed to duplicate a stone structure. The dolmen, ancient burial sites situated on cliffsides overlooking the Cesse River valley, sported three base rocks and one large table-top, almost like a mushroom cap. When I spent time crawling over one, I got that sense of energy from the dolmen, unlike my experience with the circle structures of Scotland. I had hoped to recreate that feeling in the Highlands, but now know maybe not just any old stone will connect a person to their ancient forefathers.

The dolmen appears as a significant landmark in my novel Daughter of the South Windand as a connection for the heroine, Dawn. Some would consider my mention of the monument an homage to those ancient stones. But to me, it’s a reminder that I need to go back some day and feel the site’s energy. Who knows, maybe doing so will give me a better understanding of myself, the way it did Dawn.

Daughter of the South Wind is available on Amazon in Kindle eBooks and Kindle Unlimited.

RTC is Days Away by Mandy Rosko

We’re almost here, and I’m suddenly realizing how unprepared I actually am for the book signing.

I still have to make my candles ready, wrap up the books for my big game with Sharon Page, which is going to be awesome, BTW :), sign preordered books and grab a fabric pen for the T-shirts that came in.

There’s several other little odds and ends that I’ll want to get done, but I’m definitely starting to notice the ticking of the clock, and I’ll be honest, it is making me sweat a little.

Today I ran out to Staples to grab some last minute things. Ink for my printer so I can make my flyer on Canva, a couple more Kobo gift cards for the draw I’m planning on having, and a little lock box for the draw cards.

Yeah, lots to do, but luckily I do have some things in place. I won’t have as many books this year to bring to the event, and the water bottles I ordered will be a bit smaller. In fact, I don’t think I’ll be able to do water bottles for next year at all unless I have a sponsor who is willing to go in with me on the next one.

For now, I’m keeping calm by watching artists practice on Twitch, and doing my own live streams on Twitch as well. I’m really enjoying being on Twitch. Live Writing is fun, especially when I make a challenge of it, and it seems like a fun knew way to interact with my readers.

I mean, if I’m going to be writing, or drawing, or even playing video games, then I might as well hang out with readers and socialize while I’m at it, right?
