My 2018 Christmas Stories by Laura Greenwood
My friends all laugh at me because I’m an absolute grinch up until December 1st when it comes to Christmas. And it’s true. I love the spirit of Christmas time though (and have trips planned to the Christmas Markets in my town, and a pantomime in the coming week!)
So imagine their surprise when they realised I have three Christmas themed stories this year! With December now in full swing, I thought I’d tell you a bit about them!
Laid By Me included in the Twelve Reverse Harems of Christmas Anthology (contemporary)
This one is probably the least Christmassy…potentially about the same as my previous contemporary Christmas-ish book, Sweet About Me). It’s part of the Twelve Reverse Harems of Christmas and is themed around Six Geese A-Laying…ish! It follows Sophie as she takes one of the six board seats at Gans Limited (Gans is the Dutch word for Goose, used to honour one of my close friends). It’s fun, flirty and hot!
Yuletide of Rats included in the Bustles and Bells Anthology (steampunk)
This is the third in my one-shot steampunk stories, they’re meant to be quick reads and just focus on one event! You don’t need to have read Ruler of Rats and Collector of Rats first, it should work as a standalone! There’s more to this than Christmas though! Tori and her husbands have a murderer to catch!
==> books2read.com/yuletideofrats
Below the Baubles included in Holidays Between the Sheets (fantasy)
Skye MacKinnon and I have written a brand new short story from our bestselling series, Seven Wardens! This one is a little bit more Christmassy than the other two! Macey is back to her old tricks of saving the world, chilling out with her guys, and heating the place up!
Merry Christmas everyone! And happy reading!

All these stories can stand alone as tales, but they are also interconnected for an more enriched reading experience. Just when I thought, this was my series, King Max came along with the Arnhem Knights of New York series.

Two Years of Writing (and a giveaway!) by Laura Greenwood
For me, yesterday was a special day. Not only was it the first day that Christmas is allowed into my house for the year (I’m a real Grinch up until 1st December!) but it is also the anniversary of me publishing my first book – which normally means a little reflection for me (though this year it’s also meant a big giveaway!)
Two years ago, I published a book called What Lies Beneath the Mask (which isn’t available at the moment) and started my author journey. There have certainly been ups and downs and it’s safe to say I’m far from the naive author I was two years ago. (As if to prove the point, my most recent solo release – Protectors of Poison – has already done better in two weeks than What Lies Beneath the Mask ever did!)
Earlier, I was talking to a good friend of mine about what I’d achieved in the past twelve months and I actually started to cry. Not just because I’ve survived another year either, but because it’s truly been amazing. And the thing that makes it most amazing is the people I get to share it with. I’ve met a lot of amazing people since I’ve started writing, but none more so than Skye MacKinnon, Arizona Tape, Bea Paige and Gina Wynn. They’ve really made this year possible for me and supported me in the best ways possible.
Each of these four women are so talented, I almost don’t believe they accepted me as their friends. I’ve read books from all of them and here are some of my favourites!
Polar Destiny by Skye MacKinnon (books2read.com/polardestiny): I love Isla and her bear shifters, there’s something about her crazy situation that makes an amazing story. Plus, I have a soft spot for shifters!
My Own Human by Arizona Tape (books2read.com/myownhuman): Many may be surprised I didn’t go for Wolf’s Whisper given my love of Aspen, but there’s something compelling about Ade and Heather’s story. It’s true Ari-magic!
Accacia’s Curse by Bea Paige (books2read.com/accaciascurse): Accacia combines everything we know about vampires and brings a completely new angle to them. This book is enthralling, there’s no other word for it.
Two by Two by Gina Wynn (books2read.com/2b2): This was the first book I read of Gina’s and it had me from the very start. A quirky fun take on paranormal romance and Noah’s ark all set in space.
In celebration of two years, and for reaching 2000 members in my Facebook Group, I’m holding a couple of giveaways. One is exclusive to my Facebook Group itself, but this one is open to everyone!

Thank you to Kindle Direct Publishing and The Wayback Machine! An Important Note for Authors & Readers!!
A BIG THANK YOU TO KINDLE DIRECT PUBLISHING!
Since changing over from my traditional publisher to a new publisher (me) with Max as I lovingly call the Vampire King of New York, I have communicated with KDP for almost two months trying to get my reviews all transferred over to the new pages for the book with the new cover. I wouldn’t give up and their staff wouldn’t give up. I am grateful to every one of them for moving the pages forward until the reviews could finally be restored on the current page.
Thank you to Kevian S. and the rest of the staff at Kindle Direct Publishing!
Note to Authors:
Stuff happens. When a page is unlinked and you can no longer see it, so when you are asked for screen captures of your reviews, you can’t get them, there is one place you can go.
Go to the Wayback Machine also known as http://www.wayback.com/
The Wayback Machine is an internet achivist. To quote them “Internet Archive is a non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites, and more.”
I typed in my address minus the book number or page number usually assigned by Amazon for example https://www.amazon.com/Susan-Hanniford-Crowley/
The Wayback Machine gave me a timeline like a chart filled in. Below it I found a calendar with certain dates highlighted. I clicked it until I found the page that had all the reviews. That page also gave me a web address of the unlinked link. Becasue of the Wayback Machine I was able to provide all the screen captures required of me and even the links to where they might still be found.
Note to Authors Again:
Be sure to make screen captures of your book pages and the reviews. In this way, if anything happens and they don’t transfer you can help remedy the process.
Note to Readers: 2 Important Upcoming Events
First, I will be at The Romance Studio for their Holiday Party.
The second event is a brand new book scheduled for early 2018. I am so excited about this as it is the book about King Max’s first son. As soon as the cover is ready we will have it revealed here! 2019 is getting better and better already!
Do you need to get gifts for yourself or others? Visit https://www.amazon.com/Susan-Hanniford-Crowley/e/B004YXOGXG/
My prices are set affordably for everyone’s enjoyment.

The Masks We Wear
At work, it is not uncommon to hear the phrase “bring your whole self to work.” It is also not uncommon for folks to bring a “version” of themselves to work. Why? It could be fear of saying or being too open, fear of not being accepted for who we are, etc. What the reason, it is not uncommon for us to wear different “masks”with different people.
Think about it. How many people truly know the real you? At home, I find that I can be a very goofy person when I let my hair down, but this isn’t the person I feel comfortable being at work. There, I am the consummate professional, providing input as it is needed. There may be times that I find it appropriate to joke but for the most part, I maintain a calm, professional demeanor. And yet, a very important part of my job requires me to get past the masks my clients wear.
I believe one of the reasons we don’t always show our true colors is that we find it difficult to trust easily in this world. We hop on the internet, turn on a tv or listen to the radio and each day we are bombarded by reasons not to take everything at face value. Every direction we go in, we are given reasons not to trust the world around us. And the truth is that the world isn’t getting any less chaotic or easier to trust. The key is being open to learning about others and willing to be patient as others do the same with you. It sounds corny but it’s all part of seeing beyond the masks we wear.
Second Patreon Batch Has Been Shipped by Mandy Rosko
Okay, I am really happy to have this part done. There is still something like 12 more packages to send out, but I am on the home stretch, and it feels good to get those books shipped out, especially now that time is so much more limited compared to what it was.
With the new job, there is less time than ever before to get everything done, but I am still able to chip away at my work, to meet my deadlines (for the most part) and make some cool art.
Though I do need to work on getting up earlier in the morning. Or getting u pin the morning at all. That would be pretty nice. I need to work on not falling asleep passed four in the morning, but with the current work schedule, it seems nearly impossible.
But I know I can do it if I continue to try. I can still get my homework done, I can still meet my writing goals, and I can bring out those Patreon books to the post office after packaging them up.
I just desperately need to buy a new ink cartridge for my printer since it’s out of black ink, which means I need to write out all the addresses on these packages by hand until I can do something about it :s
Are you meeting your writing goals? If not, what do you think it is that is getting in your way? What can be improved. If I can work on my new schedule, then it’s possible you can work on yours. Even a 1% improvement is still an improvement, and with Nanowrimo almost over, even if you do not complete the month with your goals complete, you will still have more than what you started with,
Cheers,
Mandy Rosko

Waffles are the Fuel for Saving the World by Laura Greenwood
Today marks the release of the fifth book in my co-written series, Seven Wardens. Skye MacKinnon and I have been working on this one for just over a year and it’s crazy to think it all started with 500 words because Skye was bored at work. From it has spanned five novels (with two more planned) and three spin-off novellas.
Our leading lady, Macey, is a little unusual too – even if she is a shifter! We started this series the way we’ve gone on, with a lot of crazy mythology. We started out with kelpies (what Macey is!) and other Scottish mythology (and yes…the Loch Ness Monster does make an appearance!) Since then we’ve branched out to include Flemish, German, Irish, and Greek mythology. So long as it’s lesser known, we include it! We actually have a great quiz for you to find out which of the creatures you are…why not take it and let me know in the comments!
https://quiz.tryinteract.com/#/5a5675b5ec933c0014872cca?method=iframe
We also have an amazing giveaway going on to celebrate, which includes kelpie swag (all of which features our exclusively designed kelpie!) and a signed paperback!
https://kingsumo.com/js/embed.js
And the waffles…well a vegetarian kelpie has to have a favourite food, though she does seem to struggle to get them at times! We’re not so cruel though, and included a recipe for Malan’s Fluffy Waffles in the Hungry For More recipe book!

Fun with Max and Save the Date by Susan Hanniford Crowley
New Cover
[image error]
Old Cover
On the left is the new cover for Vampire King of New York. It is available at Amazon in Kindle and print.
For the newly covered book (also the 2nd printing), I am doing a special called Matchbook with Amazon, where if you buy the print book, you can then buy the Kindle version for $.99
On the right is the book with the old cover. You can still find this at 3rd party/used bookstores. They usually run in the hundreds of dollars. I hope they are signed. I get asked this all the time: do I make money off that? No. Once a book is sold even to another bookstore, it becomes their property and they set the price and keep the money. It is the 1st printing of the book and is considered out of print.
Now for some fun with Max:
I’m going to share an excerpt from Vampire King of New York, specifically the Meet-Cute with Evelyn. Max has arrived arrived in New York after meeting with a Norse goddess concerning his destiny, which is looking bleak. After the deaths of her husband and son, Evelyn has lived for a year with her sister and brother-in-law. They are vampires.
*
Evelyn was glad David insisted on this dinner out. She’d been shaky all day. In two weeks she would be leaving her job at the New York City Public Library and going back to Connecticut. She nibbled on her shrimp cocktail. Even though she loved it, her mind just wasn’t on how delicious it was. It was almost the anniversary of the accident that took the lives of her husband and son. Just the thought of her little J.J. made her sniff holding back the tears. Taking a huge gulp of air, she tried to put on a happy face. Evelyn found living with the two vampires so amusing at times that it held her grief at bay.
Laura shucked off a shrimp tail and placed it on the little plate, then drowned the fish in shrimp sauce. Evelyn couldn’t help but giggle. How horrible it must be not to be able to eat a favorite food! She remembered how Laura loved shrimp growing up. She glanced over at David. He was doing the same thing. Pity. Laura had told Evelyn that David, being over one hundred, was capable of eating human food but made a promise not to eat until Laura could too. A promise of love. Evelyn enjoyed watching her sister and brother-in-law. Theirs was what marriage was supposed to be—filled with love, sharing, and humor.
Then, he walked into the restaurant.
Oh, my God, the Viking of my dreams is walking up to the table. This can’t be happening.
Part of her danced with excitement, when she should have been quaking in terror.
After dreaming of him every night for my entire life, how can he be flesh and blood?
She thrust her trembling hands under the table. Grief must have made her crazy. All she saw was the tall, blond, broad shouldered man, so handsome she could cry, towering over their table. All she could think about was running away. If she looked into his eyes, she would be trapped, and Evelyn didn’t want that. She’d felt trapped half her life, and this would be worse—to be trapped by an illusion of a man, a vampire.
“Max!” David jumped up and the two gripped each other’s arms in a kind of arm shake rather than a handshake.
Laura sipped her blood wine and smiled.
“Laura, you’re looking lovely.”
“Thank you, Max.” Looking in Evelyn’s direction, she added, “This is my sister, Evelyn.”
Max’s heart jumped in his chest. He was sure everyone saw it, but surveying David and Laura’s easy smiles of welcome, he realized they hadn’t. Fear roared like a fire through his veins. He wanted to rush to her and hold her, but experience, taught by time, held him restrained. David showed no indication of picking up his thoughts, and for that Max was grateful. In his dreams, he’d watched Svenna’s transformation into this modern woman, but part of him never believed it could be true—that she was out there somewhere waiting for him. He had made his petition to the goddess without believing. Only his pain made him say those words to Freya.
Evelyn was an exquisite human, and his stomach flip-flopped with the idea of talking to her. What if he said something wrong? What if she didn’t like him? Perhaps he should leave. This could be a deception by Loki playing on his desperate need. Evelyn was too beautiful, too delicate. Damn it, she was too human and didn’t want their lifestyle. A thousand questions popped into mind, mocking his insecurities. Her gaze slid to him and then away. Eyes the same brilliant summer blue as his lost love. She concealed her small hands at first, but now they emerged ripping her napkin into fine, long shreds. Concentrating to stop his shaking, he took her delicate hand and pressed her fingers to his lips. Her eyelashes fluttered, sending a tremor of excitement through him.
Evelyn couldn’t stop staring at him. He reached for her hand. The touch of his lips on her fingers and the ensuing exhale of warm air sent a shiver down to her toes right after he released her hand. Vampires were supposed to be cold. Whenever she hugged David and Laura goodnight, they were chilly.
“May I join you?”
“Of course,” David said.
Max took the seat beside her. She couldn’t breathe. Her mind shifted between grief for her lost family and the raw energy she felt from Max. His energy exhilarated her, leaving her breathless and hungry for more.
“Are you all right, Evie?” Laura placed her hand on her sister’s shoulder. Even through her light sweater, Evelyn felt her sister’s cool touch.
“Yes.” She shook herself. “I’ll be fine. I just got melancholy for a moment. Change is always hard for me.”
“David told me you were returning to Connecticut. Perhaps you’re not yet ready. Often the heart balks at change, when the mind is uncertain. Of course, that’s merely an observation of life. Being a vampire, I know change too well,” Max said.
“In my experience, change hurts. Does it always hurt?” She gazed into those wonderful glacier blue-gray eyes of his, and they weren’t cold at all, but deep, engulfing, welcoming.
“I am sad to say it does. However, the company we keep can sometimes diminish the pain and give us hope of happiness.”
Evelyn enjoyed looking at Max and found him strangely comforting.
David and Laura raised their glasses of blood wine. Max poured some Organa Wine, which Laura had explained to her was cow’s blood, into his glass then raised it as well. Evelyn raised her champagne flute.
“To Evelyn, may your new life bring you happiness,” David said.
It was a simple toast but appreciated. The four clinked glasses and drank. The champagne rushed down Evelyn’s throat, and a comforting warmth spread through her as her cheeks heated. Happiness could be a good thing. She could do with a little happiness. Or maybe a lot.
The waiter arrived and faced David. “Is it time, sir?”
David nodded and Max turned toward the man. “Yes, my good sir,” Max said, “the gentleman is ready for your excellent salmon entrée”
Laura, what’s this all about? Were they mindtalking? Evelyn thought to her sister.
Yes, Max mindtalked to David earlier, and David ordered for him so he wouldn’t have to wait long after arriving.
“Thank you, sir.” The waiter hurried off.
Evelyn could not hide her smile. She had a lot of questions and couldn’t ask them with another human around. Feelings bubbled up inside her right into words. “You can eat?”
“Yes.”
“Really eat human food, not just cut it up and move it around the plate?”
David shook his head and gave her a look. “Evie, it isn’t polite.”
“What? Vampires have a code of etiquette? Rules on what you can ask and what you can’t?”
Max laughed, but not in such a way that he offended her. She got the distinct impression that she delighted him and this spurred her on.
“Are you offended if I ask you questions, Max?”
“Not at all, Evelyn, ask what you wish.”
“There. See.” She scowled at David on purpose. He merely narrowed his eyes at her and sat back in his chair.
The waiter arrived with the salmon. Evelyn thought the least she could do was wait until he left, but the man was full of questions himself. “Is there anything else I can get you?”
“No, thank you,” Max said.
“Is everything to your satisfaction, sir?”
“Yes, thank you,” he replied.
Finally, the waiter left and she set her focus on Max, though that was difficult. The man was digging into his salmon with gusto.
“You really eat,” she said.
“I said I did.” He wiped his mouth with his napkin and then put it down. “You were saying?”
“If you are eating, you’re at least a hundred years old.”
“Evelyn, asking a person’s age is . . .” David started, but Max put up his hand.
“I don’t care if she asks my age.”
Targeting her with those gray, glacier blue eyes, he asked, “How old are you?”
“I’m thirty-two. I’m three years older than Laura. I figure you must have died when you were twenty?”
“Twenty-eight.”
“You look younger.”
“When you become a vampire, the process reverses the body to one’s prime.”
“That’s handy. So . . . ” She bit her lower lip in concentration. “How old are you?”
With his fork in his mouth, he sputtered. Taking a minute to chew and swallow, Max put down his fork. He smiled, gazed over at David and nodded. “Do you want only vampire years or combined with human years?”
“Both, I guess.”
“Hmm. I was made a vampire when I was twenty-eight years of age, and I have lived as a vampire for one thousand and seventy-eight years. That would make me . . . ”
“One thousand, one hundred and four.” Evelyn’s mouth dropped open at the realization. She blinked.
“Is there a problem?”
“No.” She was baffled by the amused look on his face.
“Am I too old?”
*
You’ll just have to read the book to find out if Max is too old. (Laughs) Let me put it this way. Not at all!

Blessings to be Thankful For
Happy Thanksgiving– or almost! I have to say that the Thanksgiving post really is one of my favorite posts each year because I am a firm believer (and optimist) in that we all have something to be thankful, even in those years that feel rougher than anything else.
For this year, I am thankful that my family and many of my friends survived the slew of hurricanes that seem to hit the Carolinas this year. I also send thanks out to continued help that comes to those still picking up the pieces. On the same vein of natural disasters, I am thankful to see that some many have come together to help those in California that have lost loved ones, homes, possession, etc. due to the many wildfires the state continues to experience.
Additionally, I am thankful for the many blessing this year – health, home, family and a new job. These are the things I find I take for granted most easily and yet I appreciate them so very much.
Lastly, I want to thank the men and women who risk their lives daily to protect us—both domestically and internationally. While our country is not perfect (nothing ever is!), we have so many blessings and liberties that we all may take for granted time to time. I want to take this moment to acknowledge these blessings and the fact that we have them when so many do not.
I encourage you all to share what you are thankful for this week and have a happy week with family and friends.
