Lola Goes to Spain! by Laura Greenwood

Hi everyone! I’ve been on holiday this week visiting Seville, Spain, with some of my old school friends – which has provided a great backdrop for some photos of the heroine of my co-written series with Arizona Tape, Renegade Dragons – Lola! In book 2 (which releases this week!) Lola visits Spain and participates in a gaming tournament! Read on to see some of her adventures!

The Renegade Dragons Series:

Fifth Soul: http://books2read.com/fifthsoul
Fifth Round: http://books2read.com/fifthround
Fifth Flame: http://books2read.com/fifthflame

A note from Lola:

Hi everyone! I’m back from Spain (and brought Laura back with me – though she protested. Anyway…she’ll be back around properly tomorrow)

I thought I’d tell you about some of my adventures! Rachel will be super proud of me – I explored a lot of the culture and

architecture of Seville, as well as trying some of the tasty food! Though I did get a little naughty and hide from everyone in the orange groves – the smell was delicious, and orange is a Fire Dragon colour, so it’s win-win for everyone there!

Of course, no trip is complete without some tasty Sangria. I’ve brought the recipe back for the guys to make at Dragon Soul. I know they’ll listen to me.

ought the recipe back for the guys to make at Dragon Soul. I

know they’ll listen to me. I’m not so sure about the blue stuff Laura and her friends were drinking though. Perfect for Water Dragons…not so perfect for me…

Love

Love. It is such a complex emotion—incredible yet draining, subtle yet dramatic, brilliant yet costly at times. Valentines’s Day is tomorrow and if I haven’t mentioned this before, I’m not a huge celebrator of this particular holiday. Not because I don’t believe in love because in fact I would say that many might call me a romantic. Actually, I’m not a huge fan of this holiday mainly due to the commercialization of it. Besides, do we really need a holiday to celebrate love? I get there is more behind this holiday (after all it is named after a saint), but like most things, this significance falls by the wayside for many.

No, I am not a fan of love holidays, but I am a fan of love. This week I watched the movie Stardust, which is somewhat of a fantasy film. There is a scene in this film where the actress Claire Danes who plays a star (as in celestial star) explains love as she sees it. In essence, she is confessing her love to our protagonist who has been turned into a mouse. Needless to say, this is one of my most favorite parts of the film because she talks about mankind’s ability to love and the way in which we love being our most redeemable qualities. It allows an outsider like her to look past our wars, our lies and all the pain we inflict on each other.

I realize that this is simply a movie, but it holds some thread of truth and I have touched on this in previous blogs. We see so much ugliness day to day and yet in times of need we still unite, we still can love. In time of pain, our love can heal. And while I don’t agree that February 14th can be reduced to a box of chocolates and a balloon, I do believe it is a tinto reflect on the powerful emotion of love and what it means in our lives.

Happy writing this week!

Listening to the Words by Laura Greenwood

To anyone who follows me on Social Media, or is part of my Mailing List, my love of audio has probably been obvious recently! So I thought I’d tell you a bit about the process.

Before I became an author, I used to listen to audio while I was at the gym and that was about it. So when I became an author, I didn’t really consider audio. Until my friend, Skye MacKinnon, suggested looking in to it. Since then, I’ve been steadily working through my back catalog of books getting them turned into audio books.

But what about the process?

First I have to put them up for narrators to audition for (unless it’s a sequel that I want to offer to the narrator of the first book). Picking one is hard – it all comes down to the voice, the accent, and whether they feel like the character they’re auditioning for. I have ended up offering a narrator a different book to the one they auditioned for because I thought they’d be a better fit.
Waiting! First for the first 15 minutes, then for the final audio.
Proof listening – to make sure it all sounds right, there’s no missed bits, things are pronounced right. This is always an interesting part for me. Hearing my words aloud is a very unique experience.
Any changes that need to be made!
Approval…and more waiting! It takes anywhere between a week and three for audio to be live on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes after I’ve approved it!

One thing I never expected with audio was to listen to it and actually consider what I’ve written to be a good story. This was most notable for me in the Ashryn Barker Trilogy – which is now complete in audio. While I’m writing, I love the story and the telling of it, but I always worry about it. Hearing it out loud gives me that extra boost I didn’t know I needed!

Starting the Day Off Right!

While I continue to go through reviewing the newest novel before it is released, a friend sent me this and I found it enormously helpful. It will say video unavailable. Then under it it will say click to YouTube. It’s worth watching. It’s very insightful.

I’m sending love and gratitude to all my readers in hopes you have a fun and safe weekend.

So Many Layers

If I had a penny for every moment when I’ve realized that life is not simple, I’d be a millionaire. And it isn’t simply situations that grow complex, but it is us. The truth is I’m not sure if we have always been so complex or if we have grown in complexity with the times. History makes me think the former but then I can’t help but wonder if we’ve changed as well.

Very infrequently have I met people who simply are who the first appear to be. Most often, humans are referred to as “onions” with many layers for this very reason. Over the past weeks, I spent a lot of time watching documentaries—specifically about well known people in history. Tyrants, scientists, politicians, serial killers, philanthropists—such a wide range of minds and so many ways in which they formed and worked. Different backgrounds and a lifetime of experiences that made each person who they became. Life and their continued reactions to what life brought only added to their individual complexity. Interesting in each person’s life was either their ability or inability to manage life’s obstacles.

As I watch my kids grow day by day, their ability to cope with life is something we focus a lot on. I never could have guessed what an important role it would play but it is a difficult balance between providing guidance and doing too much for them that they don’t learn to manage experiences on their own. I’m not even sure if I am doing things right half the time.

Today’s lesson? We are complex and that’s okay, but that also requires a deeper examination of our feelings and perhaps a bit of patience (with ourselves and others)as we continuously learn to navigate life,

Happy writing this week!

Night Thumpers Parnanormal-Scope

Photo by Andrew Gloor on Unsplash

Nights Thumpers are rare creatures. Seldom seen but often felt. Some say they are harbingers of doom, while others claim they leave a kind of luck behind them to be found.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

Night Thumpers love whistling with the wind. They pass a house and bestow good dreams on weary hearts. Wake and make a new friend.

Taurus:

Night Thumpers are walking the fields. You may have more than you realize right beneath your feet.

Gemini:

While Night Thumpers shy away from light, the spotlight is on you. Make the most of your achievement and sort your opportunities with care.

Cancer:

A Night Thumper passes your way and leaves a pebble by your door. Pick it up and put it in your pocket. It could be a nugget of wisdom.

Leo:

Night Thumpers like to dance in puddles and leap in snow. The exercise frees their hearts and makes them grimace. What exercise will free you?

Virgo:

Night Thumpers follow the late night deliveries. You may receive a surprise gift. Be quiet and gracious in your thanks.

Libra:

Occasionally two Night Thumpers meet. They sing and all the street lights go out. An old friend will contact you. A new friend waits in the wings.

Scorpio:

Night Thumpers don’t care about money. They go where they please. Money will be a focus. Be sure to get your accounts straight. There will be time to party with friends.

Sagittarius:

The journey hypnotizes the Night Thumper. Do some research on a place you’ve always wanted to see and a plan a trip.

Capricorn:

Night Thumpers whisper of memories good and bad. Both will strengthen you. Get to writing them down.

Aquarius:

Night Thumpers will greet human strollers with “Peace go with you.” That is why some people take a walk at night and come home with a clear, relaxed mind. But take care to walk where it is safe.

Pisces:

Night Thumpers frequent bookstores. Go to a night reading and you may just spot one. They will be asking the questions you wish you had. Make a new and interesting friend.
