Finding Joy in Each New Day for Yourself

Courtesy Photo by Jordan McQueen on Unsplash

For many of us, the work day is crazy busy. We hardly have time to do anything for ourselves. For your well being, it is important to make time for yourself. This doesn’t have to be hard. Think fun and easy.

Check out a new place that’s local.  A park? A coffee shop? A museum?  Someplace you haven’t been to before.
Revisit a place that gives you a warm vibe. It may be time to go to the bookstore again or the library or an art gallery.
Treat yourself to a yoga class. There may be other activities in your local community that will entice you.
Take a bubble bath. Everyone is always taking a quick shower. Think leisure instead.
Read a book. Do a puzzle. Paint a painting.

None of these things have to take up a lot of time or money. But if you dedicate some time for yourself just to do one thing, you will feel better for it. Practice the art of relaxing and smile. Find joy in each day.

Balance is Key

What would you give for peace? I know, this is such a big statement as most of us have such chaotic lives it is hard to imagine pure relaxation or even a broader scale type of peace within our world. We all have our ways of trying to get to this state. Some of us dedicated more time through exercise, yoga, meditation, etc. Others continue to put this off, telling ourselves that we will make time later.

This past week, I spent a whole week near the beach. The view from our rental was right next to a river and I can tell you that this view alone brought me a lot of peace. Gone were my worries or the constant fog that seems to crowd my mind. For me, the beach, the waves, just nature in general is an instant relaxer. That was the whole point of this past vacation and I can honestly say it achieved its goal—I’m refreshed and back. Granted, I’ve been back two days and I will tell you that it has been hectic to say the least, but I know this past week did me a lot of good.

My husband will often question my “need” for vacations and relaxation and I am the first to admit that I feel very privileged that I have the opportunity to take vacations—even if they are stay-cations. That being said, I also feel that the balance of your mental, emotional and physical state play a big role in how well you perform in life. An exhausted work for instance is most likely not going to be as productive as a rested worker. Make sense? Moral of this week, balance is key.

Happy writing and have a good week.

The Zombie Revue Paranormal-Scope

Courtesy Photo by Nathan Wright on Unsplash

Yes, some people are dreaming of Spring, while others are just running away. Recently I was reading about a popular zombie show where they are considering introducing snow. I thought to myself, why didn’t the show have snow in the first place? Also would zombies due to their amount of decay freeze in the snow–sort of freeze to death? Ah, to ponder the pararanormal world!

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

I saw a parade of purple attired zombies wearing sequins. Is it to advertise a new show? Or is it the zombie version of spring fever? I would stay clear of the unusual this week.

Taurus:

Zombies have taken up endorsing sports by attending in groups or blocks of seats. What does this mean? Don’t yell at the inconsiderate person next to you at the game. He might bite your head off.

Gemini:

Zombies get lonely for family and friends and start seeking them out. You may get a call from someone unexpected. A reunion in a public place is always a good thing.

Cancer:

Zombies have become fond of little dogs. Soon there will be zombies with puppies in their purses everywhere. Start your own trend. You don’t have to be a slave to fashion.

Leo:

Zombies love social media. They also enjoy showing off their own version of flash mob dances. The only drawback is texting. It is tough when no one knows the time.

Virgo:

Zombies enjoy going for a casual walk through the park rain or shine. Exercise is important, even if it’s a slow walk.

Libra:

Zombies are trying out new culinary delights with extra ketchup. What’s with the extra condiment? I don’t know. But beware of those you see doing this.

Scorpio:

Zombies have gone through a lot and some are rather sensitive souls. You can find them sighing at poetry and book readings. If they look a little glassy-eyed, don’t disturb them from their moment. You might also benefit from introspection.

Sagittarius:

The increasing heat bothers zombies, so don’t be surprised to see them packing the beaches. Be sure to take the appropriate sun protection with you. No need to burn and look like a hamburger.

Capricorn:

Zombies revel in the arts. Concerts and foreign films remind them of an era gone bye. A favorite movie is called “Strigoi.” We think we know why.  It’s a Romanian film on Amazon Prime. I’m not advertising. I just enjoyed it.

Aquarius:

A zombie hoarde can be stopped by running into a flower shop. They immediately get all sentimental and have to inhale every bloom. Bring a sweet or calming fragrance into your home.

Pisces:

Even a zombie needs a fashion makeover. Enjoy the process. Add some glamour to your wardrobe and by all means take time with any permanent fashion decision.

Explorations of Rain and It’s More Than Rain

Courtesy Photo by JanFillem on Unsplash

Writing is a lot like rain. There are all these individual drops or thoughts. Then the story comes together once they merge and make this circles that meet, touch, and pass through each other.  Rain is just like a story. You don’t know the ending until it ends. You don’t know whether it soothed your heart or broke it. The good thing about rain is that it helps plants and stories/books grow.  Then there is a pause before the flash of lightning announces the new adventure.

Right now I’m going through a rebuilding season. I’m trying to get everything done from the touches of a finished book that just needs to be Kindled and covered to a brand new book to another book that needs a rewrite. There are the little things too like making book charms, discussing workshop plans with other writers, and deciding what would be great in my raffle basket.

For readers, this would be a great time to prepare by reading any books they have missed. There’s my Amazon Author Page which has everything I have with them.  https://www.amazon.com/Susan-Hanniford-Crowley/e/B004YXOGXG

There is also my website at https://www.susanhannifordcrowley.com/ I love putting new information there.

Right now I’m focusing on work. The schedule for being seen again starts in

Springtime Wonder Paranormal-Scope

Courtesy Photo by Irina Iriser on Unsplash

Sometimes the first signs of Spring are hidden like dreams of love.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

Alice is just in time for tea. So are you. Do calming things like have tea and reading before bed and get a restful sleep.

Taurus:

The White Queen has taken notice of your good work lately. Smile and stay focused so your achievements will benefit you.

Gemini:

The Red Queen wanted her roses red. Painting them is impractical. Take care with your choices at the nursery shop.

Cancer:

Since vamping has proved unhealthy, perhaps the Caterpillar will quit too. Check with your doctor and explore healthy options for you.

Leo:

The Carpenter and Walrus are apt to tell unhappy tales. Need more happiness in your life? Avoid the sad tale tellers.

Virgo:

Visit a Mad Hatter today and buy a new hat.

Libra:

The Dormouse love to sing before bed. Looking at the stars is enjoyable too. Do something to promote good dreams and a full night’s sleep.

Scorpio:

The White Rabbit is obsessed with time. Are you? Have you scheduled time for friends and family, too?

Sagittarius:

The March Hare must have tea! Indulge in a favorite recipe this week. Expand your cuisine.

Capricorn:

Alice is adventurous! You life is about to get very exciting! So many opportunities are coming your way.

Aquarius:

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum have different viewpoints but still remain agreeable. Listen to what others have to say before making important decisions.

Pisces:

Cheshire Cat is on your side. His good sense of humor will come into play this week. Look for a friend with a ready smile.

Vacation!

I’ve got a vacation coming up and let me tell you, I am ecstatic. This isn’t necessarily a luxurious vacation. We rented a place by the beach and it appears a bit rustic. No TV, no electronics and game time for the family. I know, this sounds like the average millennial’s nightmare but I was born on the cusp of this millennial generation and I can tell you that for me, it sounds very refreshing.

You see, I’ve grown up in a world of technology and faster speeds. Patience many times seems to be a thing of the past. As a mother, I struggle with how to teach my children to cope with this ever changing world, how to think critically and how to communicate with others. It is an ever-tilting balance between ensuring they keep up with the times (mainly the speed we learn at and the technology we use to do it) and they slow down enough to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

Writing this blog, I feel very spoiled that I even have the opportunity to take a vacation. It seems like such a luxury in this go go world and yet, I honestly question how I would function in my work life if I didn’t take some sort of break. I would do what I have to do, but I question as to whether that would be the “best me” for my clients and the company I work for? I truly don’t know the answer but I do feel like with every bit we push ourselves over the limit, something else falls by the wayside. The question I want you to ask yourself about this is, “Is it all worth it?”

Happy writing and have a good week.

Drop, Drop, Drop! The Tiny Paranormal-Scope

Photo Courtesy by Aaron Burden on Unsplash

This day will be brisk with raindrops. Remember to put out a spare cup of tea out for the little folk. They’re cold, too.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

Leprechauns enjoy an almond or lemon cookie or two with their tea. Good fortune smiles on those that are considerate of others.

Taurus:

Sprites sigh with each flame of warmth is extinguished. They prefer a spot of milk in their tea. You are dreams of bright flowers and cheery parties in the spring.

Gemini:

The Dormouse is shivering under a leaf. A bit of cheese, please, along with a cuppa. Always look down as you walk along. You may be surprised.

Cancer:

Were-butterflies don’t fly when it’s wet. Instead they rest a bit under the leaves. Time to get in a wee nap.

Leo:

Pixies hide under flowers if you can. If you happen to buy a bouquet on the way home, be sure to set out another cup of tea in case you invited a pixie home. They are kind to the generous.

Virgo:

Nessie comes to the surface. A good rain is like a massage. If you’ve been feeling down as of late, get a message to work the kinks out.

Libra:

A mermaid dances on the waves. Enjoy the rain and dance in it. If in poor health, dance inside and eat comfort food.

Scorpio:

Were-puppies try to use flowers and leaves as umbrellas, but always end up shaking off the cold. Dress for the weather, eat healthy, and get enough sleep.

Sagittarius:

The NiNi are the tiniest of the magical folk. A raindrop could sweep them away. If they catch onto a shoelace as you walk by, it’s good fortune for them and you. They always leave a gift behind for the one that saves them.

Capricorn:

Were-bunnies are re-coloring their eggs as a small inquisitive girl found their stash for the holiday. Cheerfully they are rebuilding again. Children will be children after all.

Aquarius:

Were-red squirrels are working at top speed, running between the drops, and gathering good things to eat. Gather good food and friends for a special event.

Pisces:

Were-owls are huddled together in their hole in the tree eaching the raindrops fly by. Find your own special place and huddle. May there be tea and scrumptious cookies for you.

Are You Ready for Spring?

Photo courtesy of Ricardo Frantz on Unsplash

Spring awakens in my household and so do the options.  Do you do any of the following things:

1) Open up all the windows and air out the house.

2) Go room to room and try to give it a new look even if it’s subtle.

3) Go to the plant store and buy plants to add to the garden.

4) Put new flowers in the house vases.

5) Reset up my writing place.

6) Plan adventures aka vacations.

What do you do to welcome spring?

Those Small Moments

This weekend we nearly hit 80 degrees Fahrenheit in the Charlotte, NC area and yesterday, it was snowing. I suppose with all the crazy weather we’ve been experiencing globally, little things like this really shouldn’t surprise me, but they still do. Life overall never ceases to amaze me in both positive and negative ways. Admittedly I prefer the positive but the truth is that many times everything seems to be intertwined.

I’m a big Rob Thomas fan. I love his voice, the melodies of his songs (even as part of Matchbox Twenty) and most especially some of the lyrics of his songs. As I was thinking about life’s wonders these past couple days, I couldn’t help but recall his song Little Wonders which was used in the animated movie, Meet the Robinsons, which is a cute film if you haven’t seen it. Anyhow, I digress… basically it got me thinking about how everything in life seems to connect. We put so much weight on big moments in our life, but it is really the little wonders that make all the difference.

I guess where I am going with all this pondering is that it is important to take notice of the little things. I’m one of those people who zoom through life without giving much thought to the small changes (despite all my efforts), but these moments are most often those that define our lives. For instance, not simply the day your child is born or they learn to walk, what about that day they ask a question you don’t know the answer to. Or that bad day at work that had you finally throwing the towel in. They are all interlocked, somehow adding up to a those bigger moments.

Lesson of the blog? Let life astound and take notice of the little wonders. They help us piece together the bigger puzzle of life.

Happy writing and have a good week.
