Explore Faeries Paranormal-Scope

Photo Courtesy by Allison Archer on Unsplash

Faeries also know as Fairies are diverse in size and powers. In modern cartoons, they are pretty and kind. In folklore, not so much. It was well know that if you follow a faerie’s trail in the woods late at night (aka will o’ the wisp or fairy lights) you could end up walking off a cliff. Some see the “fair folk” as demons. Others feel they are the guardians of nature often protecting a type of plant. Some faeries have a mischievous nature. Let’s see.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

In Newfoundland folkfore, bread will protect you from the harm of faeries. A trip to the bakery would be fun. If you feel the urge, learn to bake bread.

Taurus:

Some believe that the sound of bells will protect you from faeries. Increase your music collection.

Gemini:

Thorn trees are best left untouched as they guard the homes of faeries. Be careful with anything sharp this week.

Cancer:

Iron will keep faeries away. A horse shoe over the door pointed up like a basket will keep your luck in. You are going to make your own luck this week anyway.

Leo:

Faeries may be an ancient race. Study an aspect of history you find interesting. You may not find faeries but enjoy it anyway.

Virgo:

Some faeries live underground. They love a cozy place. It’s time to unclutter and brighten your home with new things.

Libra:

A circle of mushrooms is called a faery ring. Time to play some tunes and get your body moving.

Scorpio:

In Scotland, it is believed that faery women disguise themselves as deer. Don’t trust everything you see.

Sagittarius:

Faery gold can turn into a pile of leaves after paid. Check your finances. Balance that checkbook.

Capricorn:

Dancing and drinking with the faeries is a lot of fun. Just don’t overdo. Plan a gathering for family or friends.

Aquarius:

Small children can often see faeries, as they are pure of heart and not overwhelmed by the adult world yet. Take a nature trip and look at the world with a stress-free heart.

Pisces:

Faeries are drawn to gardens as it gives them peace of mind. Enhance your home with plants and flowers. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

Reading on the Beach with Poseidon’s Catch by Susan Hanniford Crowley

Photo Courtesy by Annette Batista Day on Unsplash

Lounging by the sea is important for my well being. There’s something magical about the sound of the surf, the water rushing up and tickling my toes, and sometimes tossing a shell unto the sand. I collect shells. My imagination takes flight with each treasure I find on the sand.

Stepping outside my vampire series today, I bring you Poseidon’s Catch.

Poseidon’s Catch (mythology romance) is available in Kindle.

Sexy Poseidon aches for eternal love.

Mila would be content to taste love once however fleeting.

When Poseidon meets Mila, a passion ignites in him that he’s never known

but she is burdened by a secret.

Can Poseidon save the woman he loves before the sands of time run out?

*

Who doesn’t love a romp in the waves and a discovery of something or someone truly magical?

Enjoy your day reading on the beach and be sure to use skin protection from the sun.

Science Fiction Author Chet Gottfried With Monster Selection Part 1

Nights of Passion welcomes back my favorite science fiction writer Chet Gottfried, author of the hiliarious SF novel Into the Horsebutt Nebula.

A female snapping turtle returning to her pond.

Monster selection is a specialist occupation, generally the providence of writers and artists, but almost everyone has views about what goes into a good (or an especially bad) monster. Although it is common knowledge that humans make the best monsters (an infinite variety), I limit myself to wildlife in order to have some variety.

Dinosaurs are a terrific first choice, and it’s a pity that the larger ones are all extinct. Yes, not every dinosaur is gone, since birds are the evolutionary descendants, but let’s face it: There’s nothing particularly threatening about a sparrow or even a great blue heron (although Daphne du Maurier did put birds to good use in her long story, “The Birds,” later made into a movie by Alfred Hitchcock).

Maybe dinosaurs aren’t walking among us, but any writer, artist, or person can place a dinosaur in a previously unknown location. If earth has been too explored too thoroughly to allow that, then there are other planets. Somewhere, at some time, there is an ideal dinosaur waiting to pounce on an unsuspecting character.

A reasonable choice (since I limit my would-be monsters to those closest on hand) is a snapping turtle.

A snapping turtle has it all: scales, plates, long claws, a powerful bite, and a snapper can move reasonably quickly, close to a person’s walking pace. Who would want to be ambushed by one hidden in tall grass? A snapper can be all but invisible in surrounding vegetation (and having nearly stepped on one in such a situation, I speak wholeheartedly).

However, relying on snappers has a downside. As impressive as their reputation and name, snapping turtles are not particularly violent, not on land. In a pond or a lake, a snapper is reputed to have a fierce personality, but from my own experience, I’ve seen  large snappers dive from a log into the water as soon as they were aware that I was watching (or ready to take a photo).

Therefore, perhaps I’ll hold snappers in reserve and move on to another selection in my next piece.

Chet’s books can be found in many places including Amazon in Kindle and Print.

Changing Motivation

Do you know what motivates you? What drives you to succeed or even to make bad decisions? I’ve been listening to a ton of true crime podcasts which makes me question a whole different set of motivations. Some are more apparent than others and some will never logically make sense to me. Still, it got me thinking about motivation in general and how much it can drive us to accomplish or destroy.

For me, it seems like I need motivation for everything I do—to work out and eat healthy, to do a good job at work, to resist the temptation to spend money. What’s interesting in this is that it can really be telling for each of us as we learn more about ourselves. Over the years, I’ve learned that I am mainly intrinsically motivated. Sure bonuses or monetary compensation help, but most of my longer-term motivation comes from my own desire to do better, whether that be for my own personal pride or for my family. This being said, I’ve also noticed that there are some things I’m more motivated towards versus others and over the years, many of these things seems to evolve. I don’t let this bother me because I believe life is very much about give and take. Very few people, if any, can juggle every aspect of life perfectly all the time. I sacrifice what is less important to me in one instance for what is more important to me. And, I’ve learned to be okay with this as I’ve gotten older. I won’t say I’ve gotten soft or given up, but more like gotten smarter about what I’m juggling.

Happy writing this week and I hope that motivations is pushing you where you want to go. If it’s not, then perhaps it’s time to ask yourself why.

Explore Goblins Paranormal-Scope

By Jessie Willcox Smith – http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/34339, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=38969639 From the book The Gand The Goblin by George MacDonald and illustrated by Jessie Wilcox Smith, 1920.

Goblins have many personalities and their behavior depends on mood and circumstances. They fear cats and run from them, unless they are a house goblin. Some live in homes under the noses of humans. Others prefer caves and under the ground dwellings. Most don’t want to be noticed. They just want to survive.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

Goblins are a little obsessed over money. They love counting it. Time to review your finances and control any overspending.

Taurus:

Goblins don’t mind doing little chores around the house as long as they are rewarded. Reward yourself for doing a good job with a special treat.

Gemini:

Goblins can be devoted friends. Organize a friend get-together.

Cancer:

Goblins are very into cookies. Bake a batch today to share.

Leo:

Goblins who are mean-spirited are afraid of cats. Cats view them like rats. Cats are home guardians. Consider the security of your home and take measures.

Virgo:

Hobgoblins love a good joke. Watch some funny movies or invite funny friends over for dinner.

Libra:

Goblins have very sensitive feet. Take care at work to not tread on anyone’s toes.

Scorpio:

Some goblins are good-hearted and give great advice. Only take advice from those you trust.

Sagittarius:

Goblins love their homes. Time to redecorate and bring in more plants if you can.

Capricorn:

Goblins are most relaxed living in the wild places. Plan a vacation or day trip to enjoy nature.

Aquarius:

Goblins are not very appreciative of art. Go to a museum or art show. Perhaps you will find a work that inspires you enough to buy it.

Pisces:

A hobgoblin has given you unexpected help. Be sure to appreciate this friend with thanks and maybe a meal.

Explore Trolls Paranormal-Scope

Look at them, troll mother said. Look at my sons! You won’t find more beautiful trolls on this side of the moon. (1915) by John Bauer. Courtesy of Wikipedia.

What are trolls?  Are they cute and adorable with brightly colored hair singing and dancing in movies? Are they monsters that throw boulders? Are they the stones themselves? Or did being caught out in the sunlight turn them to stone? According to folklore, they can be giant or human sized or very small. Will we ever know?

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

Trolls come from Scandinavian mythology. Studying the past can be a fun hobby. Indulge in a new or revived hobby of yours.

Taurus:

Small trolls enjoy dancing. Add dancing to your exercise regimen. But always ask your physician first.

Gemini:

Lightning frightens trolls away. Enjoy the storms, but if lacking that add some lights to your home.

Cancer:

Trolls are nature beings. Take a day trip and enjoy more natural surroundings. Breathe the air.

Leo:

Some trolls can’t read. Perhaps it’s a lack of education. If you feel you have missed out on a subject you want to know, take a class.

Virgo:

Some trolls have sweet voices and sing all the time. Add to your music collection and spending time listening.

Libra:

Trolls are not very helpful. You might find some of that at work. Pursue your goal and ignore them.

Scorpio:

Trolls sometimes live in caves. It’s time to redecorate your abode. It can be a major redo or adding some new pillows and wall art.

Sagittarius:

Trolls enjoy peace and quiet. Schedule some time for self pampering. Do something relaxing.

Capricorn:

Trolls love rock gardens. Plant one and enjoy the solitude of your work. Even a small one in a series of pots can be fun.

Aquarius:

Giant trolls tend to be in bad moods. Avoid anyone grumping or complaining about others. Stay focused on work.

Pisces:

Trolls are dancing down your street. Join the party of life. Get out more. Party with friends.

Reading on the Beach with Vampire in the Basement by Susan Hanniford Crowley

Photo Courtesy by Sven Scheuermeier on Unsplash

You are important. It’s a little thing to protect yourself from the sun to result in a lifetime of pleasure. After a winter of bone-chilling cold, I cherish the warm.  I’ve noticed that some people are bringing these little pop-up tents. I’m considering that.

I love reading on the beach and walking along and collecting shells. The sound of the surf lulls me to sleep, but I have to be careful on that to always use sunblock.

For your summer pleasure, I’d like to recommend the fourth book in the Vampires in Manhattan series. It’s a bit of a romp with familiar characters if you’ve read the other books. Vampire in the Basement is silly and sexy and a bit of an eye opener.

In an interview, I explained that I was inspired by the Norse Völsunga saga and it’s many incidents of shape-changing or shifting. Families don’t always shift to the same animal but instead to the individual’s spirit animal, the animal or creature that inspires them.

Right now while I wait for the new book to come out! I have more outlines of even more books. Some books are finished and need to be re-edited before they can come out.

Here’s Book 4 in the first series.

Vampire in the Basement, Vampires in Manhattan, Book 4 is available in Kindle.

Regina and Gregor

They survived one of New York City’s greatest disasters, and on their wedding day in Maine walk into another. Gregor aims to destroy the intruder who claims his bride. Regina must save the man she loves from a deadly curse with her magic. But she doesn’t know magic.

Lorraine and Theo

Everything about Lorraine is broken. She shapeshifts and forgets her clothes. She’s divorced and doesn’t believe in love anymore. Tall, blond, and handsome, Theo, vampire and Arnhem Knight, desires Lorraine, but is it more than lust? Would he give up the Arnhem Knights for her?

Love, furry handcuffs, and a pine tree.

What I love about this book is the variety of beings and the unexpected problems they have. Regina is half elf and half leprechaun, but she doesn’t know her magic. She didn’t even know her heritage until a few days before this. Lorraine is Gregor’s sister. She is a bunny shifter. Her special power is a lot of fun, risky but fun.

Enjoy your day reading on the beach and be sure to use skin protection from the sun.

The World Goes On

I got back from vacation and stepped into a whirlwind! A couple or so weeks ago, I went on a wonderful vacation where I explored and learned and just mentally relaxed (somewhat). Since then, I feel like I’ve been immersed in world of chaos. The news seems to be playing the same track I hear 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, etc. ago. Folks I work with are all concerned the world is going to end (not really but you can definitely see that people are just soaking up all the information around them and letting it drive them a bit nuts).

The truth is, I get it! I was out of the office for two weeks which is really long in the world of pre-retirement vacation that professionals in the U.S. take (I’m saying this because in polling my co-workers and friends it seems that other countries are a lot more liberal with their leave and vacations). And yet, one would think I had left for two months with the amount of work and backlog I came back to. People dread taking time off just because of the workload. This makes sense, it really does. Still, for all those folks who avoid taking a break and letting themselves relax for fear it will just add to the stress, fear not. The work is there today and it will be there tomorrow. Very few if any of us are doing jobs that are so high risk that we risk the world ending should we take a break. Life will go on and so will the world.

Happy writing this week!

Paranormals Run Amok Paranormal-Scope

Photo Courtesy by MontyLov on Unsplash

Yes. There are times when you do not answer the door.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

Ghouls are walking down your street. Try to say on the sunnyside of the street and have a cheery attitude. That way you will avoid them.

Taurus:

Pixies are adorable, but sometimes they bite. Don’t judge a book by its cover. That goes for people, too.

Gemini:

Elves are walking on lighted pathways. They avoid trouble whenever they can and don’t take shortcuts. You don’t know where they can lead you.

Cancer:

Gremlins like to dismantle machines. Check all your appliances and put in new batteries.

Leo:

Faeries flitter in and out of the shadows exploring. Some past hurts are best left alone at this time.

Virgo:

Sirens sing of summer storms. Fireworks and lightning keep them up at night. Make sure you get enough sleep to be at your best.

Libra:

Mermaids dance on the waves and wave at the people on shore. Don’t let the summer sun play tricks on your eyes, and don’t swim far from the shore.

Scorpio:

A dragon thinks you are the greatest and takes you flying. You are achieving some height in your career. Smile at everyone.

Sagittarius:

Gnomes are busy with their gardens. Watch your diet and be careful what you eat.

Capricorn:

Werewolves love games and sports. Spend time being more energetic. Always check with your doctor before starting or increasing an exercise program.

Aquarius:

Shapeshifters are in rare form now. It’s time to redo that wardrobe of yours.

Pisces:

A vampire comes out of the shadows. An old friend may contact you. You decide whether you want to meet again.
