Unexpected Were Paranormal-Scope

Photo Courtesy by Drew Hays on Unsplash

There’s a bit of chill in the air. Halloween is coming closer on cat paws. What is more disturbing is the creatures you would never expect are changing to their scarier were forms, and there is not even a full moon.  Pull your jacket tighter. The scent of mischief lingers on the wind.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

Were bunnies are taking over yards or as they like to call it – the salad bar. Have you been eating healthy lately? Discuss it with your physician.

Taurus:

Were butterflies are posing for that last photo before they are blown away. A new friend will blow you away. Don’t judge by appearances and get to know that person better.

Gemini:

Were chipmunks are the kings and queens of the forest. They don’t let their size hinder their ambition. Stand tall. Look people in the eyes. Let the confidence flow.

Cancer:

Were sheep like to gather with friends for a chat. Why not make it a bring your favorite dish get-together!

Leo:

Were cows linger when the sunlight fades. They should be in the barn, but they are headed into the woods. Following cows at night is right up there with following will ‘o wisps. Followers beware!

Virgo:

Were sheepdogs like to gather their flocks of sheep together. Are you into collections? Time to add a piece or two.

Libra:

Were hogs know the best places to eat. It takes a dinner reservation to reveal their paranormal talent. Kick back with friends or family at a favorite eatery.

Scorpio:

The most frightening of the weres are were chickens. You will be walking home later than usual when you hear those scratching footsteps of theirs. Take precautions when out for the evening. Be safe.

Sagittarius:

There is no such thing as a were rooster. They have to give the last call to get the hens back into the hen house. You are a responsible person, and people are beginning to appreciate you more.

Capricorn:

Were horses love dancing or going to art shows or visiting bookstores. Indulge your thirst for knowledge.

Aquarius:

Were goats are to be avoided. If you stand perfectly still in front of them, they will eat the clothes off you. Time to toss out the old items in the closet.

Pisces:

Were donkeys love to paint, crochet and sing. Take out an old hobby, shine it off, and try it out again. Whatever you do, schedule “me” time and do something fun.

Say What We Mean…

A while back, I mentioned I am reading the Outlander series. I heard about this series years ago (when I started and had much more time to write) and then got caught up with watching it on Starz through streaming. For anyone who is familiar with this series, they’ll understand it when I say I’ll be reading it for quite a long time (the books are immensely large!). Still, despite the books’ size, I’ll say that they hold my interest quite intently and I often find myself chuckling as I play witness to the main characters’ easy banter.

Jaime and Claire Fraser really are fascinating characters. Sure they have passion and strength but the glimpses I find most interesting is when they expose the rawness of their emotions to each other. It got me thinking about my own relationships and just relationships in general. Most of us are so hesitant to trust. We live in a world where we can and are taken advantage of quite easily. For the majority of us, we may only have a small circle of family members and friends that we open up to so completely—if we open up in this way to anyone at all.

In reading this series and about these characters, I find myself longing for a world of more honesty. No, I do not want to be thrust back in history through some stones. The world of Claire and Jaime is no more honest than ours and even then, they had their share of complexities. I realize my longing is probably that of fairytales. Still, wouldn’t it be something if we all just said what we meant and meant what we said?

Have a great week and happy writing!

Autumn Zombies Paranormal-Scope

Photo Courtesy by Daniel Jensen on Unsplash

Autumn is coming in cool crisper nights. Winds blowing off the sea remind us of a sweet warm summer on the sand. It appears that some zombies, who have been dozing the summer days away are now awake.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

Zombies shake themselves awake or as awake as they can get. It’s party time. Invite friends over for food and fun. Career changes will require more time.

Taurus:

Zombies remember a little of their past and are dying to know more. This is the time to pursue your studies in a subject. Take a course and energize your mind.

Gemini:

Zombies enjoy baking. It reminds them of eating. Don’t present a project unless it is fully baked and examined from all sides.

Cancer:

Zombies like to travel in groups. You are making progress in your relationships and career plans. A good collaboration will make you stronger in your skill set.

Leo:

Zombies run toward a great opportunity for brains. Your connections and work ethic are beginning to work in your favor. Nurture new friendships.

Virgo:

Zombies are attracted to anything that sparkles. Some opportunities may be too good to be true. Take care in making life changing decisions.

Libra:

A zombie will take as much as he or she can carry. You have too much to do. Prioritize or delegate some of the work to others. Collaborate with your family or team at work. Find out what has to be done urgently.

Scorpio:

Zombies have no self-confidence. Boost yours. Believe in yourself. It’s going to matter especially in the personal aspect of your life.

Sagittarius:

Zombies have commitment issues. This doesn’t have to be you. Make sure the upgrade in your work is what you really want. It will mean immense responsibilities. On another note: be cautious in any real estate deals.

Capricorn:

There is always one zombie who walks in one direction, while others stop. You are moving forward even if you can’t see it. Devote yourself to your success.

Aquarius:

Zombies easily get lost in the woods. You’ve been through a hard time, but now you’re beginning to see the light of day. Be sure to research every opportunity.

Pisces:

Zombies think a friend is someone who is walking in the same direction. In this respect, they are right. Those that help you when you need it and encourage you when your courage is waning are true friends. Hang out with them more.

Swollen Ankle and Comfort Television By Susan Hanniford Crowley

Somehow I managed to injure my left ankle, and it’s swollen. So I have it propped up with an ice bag and family members are bringing stuff to me. Managing to write when one leg is elevated above the heart is quite a trick. Finally I am able to do it and get on my laptop.

Since I am online again, I would like to share with you my list of comfort tv. Comfort tv acts very much like comfort food. It warms your innards, distracts you from your regular life and the pain of a swollen ankle, and fills you with wonder or laughter.

Here’s my list.

1. Shaun of the Dead – Yes, it’s a zombie movie, but it’s funny in a campy way. I also love almost everything that Simon Pegg is in.

2. Paul – Do you like aliens? Do you wonder about Area 51? Do you want to laugh? Then you’ll love this Simon Pegg movie.

3. Corner Gas – It’s a Canadian sitcom focusing on a gas station owner and his family and friends in the little town of Dog River. I usually watch it on Amazon Prime before I go to bed to have good dreams.  I haven’t tried the animated version yet.

4. Bob’s Burgers is on Fox and Hulu. It’s an animated American sitcom about a restaurant owner, his family and friends. It always makes me laugh. The character Louise is my hero. If you watch it, you’ll know why.

5. Ghostbusters – I like all of them including the new one with female ghostbusters. I think they are all funny. [image error]

I think these are enough to start with because at any time the pain medication will kick in, and you’ll be asleep. If not, cuddle up with a good book.  I recommend my newest novel The Vampire with a Blanket of Stars, which is available at Amazon Print and Kindle.

For the Love of Humor

by Artemis Crow

In my opinion, humor is one our most important and effective tools in our writing; it certainly is a great relief valve in our daily life. Whether in the face of great despair or dealing with the aggravations of daily life, humor gives us a chance to take a deep breath, and release the stress. And it’s in that moment that we can find the strength to get through the day.

In my writing, I try to interject humor to give the reader a chance to do the same thing, take a breath, and relieve the tension so I can hit them hard again just like the tick-tick-tick of a roller coaster ride as it rises to an apex before hurdling down, leaving your stomach behind.

In the soon-to-be-released fifth book in my Zodiac Assassins series, Gemini Asunder, I have a scene with one of the series villains, the demon king Asmodeus, and his new protégé, the Bathory Berserker girl, Jimena. In it, not only am I conveying information to move the story forward, but I’m trying to show that no matter how awful Asmodeus can be, he has a sense of humor, and he does have at least a skosh of a moral compass, despite that the compass’s true north is Hell.

I encourage all writers to add humor to your stories; even the darkest ones can benefit from giving your readers a break, letting them take a breath and laugh.

Here’s the scene:

Asmodeus curled up in his bed, alone for a change, but it was for the best. He was in no mood for a dalliance today, not after seeing what a success Circe had made of her campaign. The television reporters were positively giddy at the spectacle she’d made the night before; everyone was clamoring to know who she was, how to see her and if she would heal them.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, the humans Circe healed already had created social media fan pages. Of course, he had no idea what that was until the Bathory child, Jimena, explained social media to him. He wanted to beat the girl senseless for not telling him about this new fangled communication treasure trove earlier—not because he really thought she’d done anything wrong—but because she was there and no one else was.

He heaved a sigh and kicked out his restless legs. “Poor little poppet. I do like her so, but at this rate I’ll have to kill her to break through my ennui and find the will to get out of bed.”

Someone tapped on his door. “Is that you, Jimena?”

“Yes.”

“What do you want?”

“To give you news that will delight you.”

He pushed up in the bed. “Has Circe been found out for the deceitful minx she is and been shot?”

“No.”

“Have humans come to love and worship me?”

“Not even a little.”

“Have you found me figgy pudding?”

“I don’t know what that is, so no.”

“Brat,” he muttered.

“What’s that?”

“Nothing. What do you want then?”

“Like I said before, I have good news.”

Asmodeus rolled his eyes. “Fine, but make it quick.”

Jimena opened the door a crack and peeked inside. Smart, considering the sexscape she saw the last time she just walked into the room. “I had a visit from a little crow a few minutes ago.”

“You mean a little birdie told you something?”

“No, I mean a little crow.”

Her emphasis caught his attention. “And what did this little crow have to say?”

“The woman Taryn?”

He slid down in the bed and covered his head with a pillow. He was still depressed by the recent failure of the plans he had for Taryn. Death tended to disrupt machinations, but that commonsensical statement didn’t stop him from pouting.

“Gah, what about her? And tell me quick before I smite you.”

“She’s alive.”

“What?” he asked, throwing the pillow across the room as he sat up. “Say that again.”

“The woman Taryn is alive. She’s been spotted at the InBetween with Libra and the other Zodiacs, hearty and hale.”

Asmodeus sat very still for a moment, his mind racing, before he let out a loud ‘whoop’. “Well, don’t just stand there, girl, fetch me some clean clothes. I have plans to make.”

Jimena closed the door.

“And fetch me some figgy pudding!” he yelled at her retreating steps.

“Still don’t know what that is!”

“And fetch me a trollop,” he hollered while dancing a jig.

A groan echoed in the hallway. “Fine.”

Asmodeus continued his happy dance, his eyes half closed. “I loves me some trollop.”

May your words flow freely,

Artemis

Believe in Yourself

Confidence is hugely important. I’m currently referencing it as important in the world of work but it goes far beyond this. How confident we are in our abilities or at least how confident we are able to display ourselves (whether it is always true or not) really does affect how others perceive us.

I recently went to a meeting where the person leading the meeting pronounced name after name incorrectly. Still, she did this with such confidence and such a straight face that nobody questioned her or bothered correcting the mistakes. Now this sounds somewhat comical and at least on my side, it was quite funny, but it just goes to show how much confidence can influence perception and whether someone will question you.

When it comes to my children, this is always something I am trying to teach them. My oldest is somewhat timid when it comes to interactions—especially with those he doesn’t know. I am constantly telling him to be confident in his abilities and to present himself well. In the U.S., that usually does include making eye contact but I realize this is not the case everywhere. Still, I do understand the world he is navigating now and believe confidence in his abilities is an important foundation for almost any child (just my personal opinion).

In my line of work, confidence often comes up as an area where women are lacking. Being a female myself, I’d have to say that I understand this because it really is a male dominated area and that can be intimidating for some. Still, I will also point out that confidence doesn’t necessarily mean you have to control the rest of the world or even be better than everyone else. It is simply an understanding of what you as an individual can bring to a situation and it is also a matter of believing that you can add value. Bottom line, don’t turn into something larger than it has to be, just know what you can do and do it!

Have a great week and happy writing!

Were Pugs Paranormal-Scope

Photo Courtesy by Matthew Henry on Unsplash

The Were Pugs have been petitioning me to have a Paranormal-Scope completely about them. Silly me. My first response was no. They hid my toys. Holding them for ransom.  I still said no. They ate all the cookies in the house. Then while I was watching Prince to calm down, they decided to sing along as the back up singers. All right. I told them they could have this Paranormal-Scope but, I wanted everything back. They told me they were sorry about the cookies.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

You have a lot on your plate, but you don’t have to eat every crumb with a Were Pug in the house.

Taurus:

There is a scent of a new friendship or more in the air.  Were Pugs head into the kitchen for the new cookies. You are going to meet someone new. Bake more cookies.

Gemini:

Were Pugs love being in the spotlight. But it’s happening to you, too. Use caution with what you say and do.

Cancer:

Were Pugs love a schedule. Make one for yourself. This will keep you focused on work, deadlines, and finish those less than fun projects.

Leo:

Were Pugs love a good massage. Additional projects may pay off this week with more money. Don’t spend just to feel good unless it’s for a massage.

Virgo:

Were Pugs have seen misunderstandings escalate. Be a good listener instead and work on compromising with your colleages and family. Then give your Were Pug a biscuit.

Libra:

Spend quiet time with others especially your Were Pug. You may choose to do a spiritual exercise, meditate, or something that makes you feel spiritually connected.

Scorpio:

Socialize and join groups. However, your Were Pug will tell you, that it’s important to do one thing well rather than overwhelm yourself with too many small projects. One thing at a time.

Sagittarius:

A Were Pug has a very proud and joyful stride.  Walk in those pawprints. People are watching you that may influence your future.

Capricorn:

Were Pugs love to travel. Plan a day trip to a dog friendy place and enjoy the special companionship you share.

Aquarius:

Your Were Pug has been eyeing a new fuzzy bed. Check your finances. A small item that could make someone happy is fine. Avoid expensive things right now.

Pisces:

Scheduling your time will provide some me and Were Pug time, you really need. All work and no play, make you one exhausted friend.

Life is A River by Susan Hanniford Crowley

Photo Courtesy by Elias Maurer on Unsplash

Life is a river. For some it is a long journey to the sea. For others, not as long. Sometimes you get to the sea but not without being crashed against rocks and thinking you weren’t going to make it.

This year I have lost people dear to me. I have also struggled with my health, and I appreciate having such a fine hospital close by. When you’re in the hospital you can see yourself becoming well in increments. If you have an impatient and restless nature, it’s torture.

With all the meds, I appreciated my editor continuing on without me. I do have to say that no matter how dire your diagnosis, you must believe in yourself. You must be willing to fight for yourself and take to heart what the doctor and medical team tell you to do.

I had surgery on August 12th and stayed afterward for a few days. I don’t heal fast. This was the sunrise from my hospital room on the 15th. It had rained the night before and even though I am a hearing challenged person, I heard the thunder, saw the flashes of lightning and the stomping (not a patter) of raindrops on the hospital roof.

Going home again brought so much excitement that the pain was almost unnoticeable. Laughs. Almost.

So now while I recover, I write, promote my new book, and pack for the convention and [image error]booksigning in October at the Fall in Love with New England Romance Readers and Authors Conference. Below is The Vampire with a Blanket of Stars in Amazon Print and now in Kindle, too.

I always pack in advance, so I know just what I’m taking. Don’t you just hate the feeling that you’ve forgot something.

Life is a river. I’ve been through white water and falls and have found a whole new land inside me. I hope you are enjoying your river ride, too.

Time Lost or Gained

We live in a world of go, go, go! Lately, where I work has been going through a bit of a reorganization and while I know the end goal is more efficiency and better quality work overall, we are taking some time to get there. It really reminds me of how impatient we can all be (myself included of course). This shouldn’t really surprise me as it has been a reoccurring them in my life. I wanted to learn how to play the piano and once I found out I wouldn’t be playing Beethoven in a matter of week, I got frustrated. I tried ballet lessons but professed boredom after we continued to practice the same steps, class after class, we after week. As an adult, I can see the value of the practice and the importance of building a foundation. As a kid, all I could focus on was how I’d rather be playing outside or doing something I considered fun.

As an adult, I still find myself impatient with somethings, but for different reasons. I understand more about opportunity cost and I also understand the value of time lost. It’s an internal battle I wage because there are many times I believe that we as a society simply move to fast. We make things overly complex and we stress ourselves out. I still believe this but I also understand that this is a reality I live in. When it comes to my work and productivity, I hold myself to the highest standard. In my personal life, I’m willing to simply live a little.

Have a great week and happy writing!

Pirates Ate The Paranormal-Scope

Photo Courtesy by Alonso Reyes on Unsplash

Alas, Nights of Passion has been blognapped by pirates. There are tales indeed of pirates having supernatural talents or hiding paranormal natures. Arrgh and up the Jolly Roger. Let’s see what mischief they are up to. Hold on to something, mateys, we’re bound for a stormy ride.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

Charlotte de Berry joined a ship dressed as a man in order to be with her husband. You know how it goes. He gets killed. She killed the man, and ends up as captain of the ship. Things will come to you if you work and stay out of the way of people with sharp swords or tongues.

Taurus:

Calico Jack loved the Bahamas and dancing. Jack is responsible for the black Jolly Roger flag of a white skull and two crossed white swords. You’re going to come up with some new ideas which will be to your benefit.

Gemini:

Anne Bonny was Jack’s wife. She was famed for her skill with the sword and her brilliant red hair. Take a look in the mirror. What not update your hairstyle!

Cancer:

Captain Kidd was betrayed by friends in high places. It all began with him doing them a favor. It all ended with a hangman’s noose. Be careful where you place your trust. Oftentimes, secrets are best kept secret by not sharing.

Leo:

Captain Jean Lafitte is best remembered for making an agreement with General Andrew Jackson. The general would secure a pardon for him and his men in return for their help in fighting the British in the War of 1812. Some good bargains are still out there. Keep your eyes open. Find out all the details.

Virgo:

Captain Charles Vane was renowned for his skills in navigation and ship to ship combat. Marooned during a hurricane, he was rescued but then turned in to the British authorites by his rescuer. Inventory your home. Do you have what you need in the event of stormy weather? Stock up now.

Libra:

Captain Bartholomew Roberts also known as Black Bart was one of the most successful of the pirates, taking over 400 prizes. Remember not all treasure is gold and silver. Wealth comes in many forms.

Scorpio:

Mary Reed, a widow, traveled to the New World to make a better life for herself. She met Anne Bonny and Captain Jack Calico of the pirate ship Revenge. Accept social invitations from friends. New friends are waiting to meet you.

Sagittarius:

Captain Henry Jennings was expert in attaining wealth and ships. When the British offered pardons, he accepted. It’s been said that he returned to Bermuda as a wealthy man to enjoy his last years with his family. Have you checked your finances lately? Are you putting away enough for retirement?

Capricorn:

Captain Samuel Bellamy acquired the greatest pirate treasure in recorded history. He became enamored of Maria Hallett known as the Witch of Wellfleet. Some say he left to find his fortune in Florida with the intentions of returning for her. Bellamy and his ship went down in a violent storm off of Cape Cod. Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today! This is important.

Aquarius:

Edward Teach also known as Blackbeard, though renowned for his terrifying appearance, never actually killed anyone. This goes to show that you cannot judge by appearances. .

Pisces:

Stede Bonnet was known as The Gentleman Pirate. He was always in the height of fashion. It’s time for a wardrobe overhaul.
