Reading on the Beach with A Vampire for Christmas by Susan Hanniford Crowley

Photo Courtesy by frank mckenna on Unsplash

I love the cool feeling of wet sand between my toes and the surf coming up to brush me.  I love the sound. I’m also a shell collector so going to the beach for me is a walking experience. I only take deserted shells and placed any occupied ones back in the water.

Today I’d like to recommend the third book in the Vampires in Manhattan series. It’s different and reveals a few more secrets about the vampires that live there. Right now we’re in the 80s and 90s Fahrenheit in Connecticut, so a Christmas book will add to some more coolness just like that iced tea.

When asked why I write my books, I say, “It’s sheer fun, I like to share with my readers.” I have discovered that couple like to read them aloud to each other. Smiles. Other readers enjoy them before my vampires are heroes. One reader who met me told me she hated vampire books until she read mine. She just loves mine. Thank you.

Right now while I wait for the new book to come out! I have more outlines of even more books. Some books are finished and need to be re-edited before they can come out.

Here’s Book 3 in the first series.

A Vampire for Christmas  is available in Kindle.

Georgia doesn’t know she’s a Harmony. Jobless and about to be homeless, her heart sinks when a hand snatches the coat of her dreams from the storefront window. Then she sees him staring at her reflection . . . the stalker.

Trevor Stenwood, a vampire and Arnhem Knight, is handsome, sophisticated, and tongue-tied every time he sees her. Sworn to protect the supernaturals of the city, he’s fallen for a woman marked for death by demons. How can he save her when she’s afraid of him?

At Christmas time in New York City, will love bloom in the snow?

One of the favorite parts of my book comes right out of my childhood visiting my grandparents and aunt in New York. I loved looking at the windows decorated for the holidays. There was a magic to them. As a child, my imagination was transported with dancing toys and Santa’s tiny train winding through snowbound mountains. I loved the window artists.

Enjoy your day reading on the beach and be sure to use skin protection from the sun.

Gnomes Paranormal-Scope

Photo Courtesy by dorota dylka on Unsplash

Gnomes seem to be everywhere these days. They have adapted to us. It is hard to say who came up with meditating first. Humans or gnomes?

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

Gnomes know that a change in appearance is a morale booster. For them, they might change the color of their hat. For you, be more adventurous!

Taurus:

Gnomes don’t like stress. Do what you can to reduce stresses in your life. Take up habits that relax you.

Gemini:

Gnomes love to get together with friends.  Do the same! Reconnect. It will do wonders in increasing your happiness.

Cancer:

Gnomes follow their dreams. Do the same. It’s time to take that long wished for project off the back burner and move forward with it.

Leo:

Gnomes understand that when confused on a subject, they ask the advice of the oldest gnome, someone with more experience and a bigger life view. Seek out more knowledge from others before making decisions.

Virgo:

Gnomes are filled with confidence. Show you believe in yourself and do your best work. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from others.

Libra:

Gnomes don’t avoid confrontations. They usually bring cookies to any discussion that might become uncomfortable. Listen to what others have to say.

Scorpio:

Gnomes are a font of knowledge. Do your research before embarking on a new money making opportunity.

Sagittarius:

Gnomes make their words count for something. Take care in what you say to others. Remember to put your best foot forward but not in your mouth.

Capricorn:

Gnomes can be emotional but when they are, they ask advice from those with more knowledge on the subject. Don’t let your emotions guide you.

Aquarius:

Gnomes are unique and creative. So are you. It is time to implement your ideas.

Pisces:

Gnomes remember their friends. Someone from your past will help you in an unexpected way. Gratitude will take you a long way.

Reading on the Beach with The Stormy Love Life of Laura Cordelais by Susan Hanniford Crowley

Photo Courtesy by Jeremy Ricketts on Unsplash

Reading on the beach is a passion. That and shell collecting and listening to the music of the surf. Life seems bigger and even more beautiful, when I’m sitting on the beach.

Today I’d like to recommend the second book in the Vampires in Manhattan series. Readers have told me they enjoy reading a series in sequence even if they don’t always.

I write supernatural and vampire adventure romance. Why? For the sheer fun of it. I know everyone in the world is overworked and tired. My books are a way to have that sheer fun experience. I also love writing them.

Right now while I wait for the new book to come out! I have more outlines of even more books. Some books are finished and need to be re-edited before they can come out.

Here’s Book 2 in the first series.

The Stormy Love Life of Laura Cordelais, Vampires in Manhattan Book 2  is available in Kindle and Print and Barnes and Noble Print

A young women engulfed by despair and grief stands precariously poised on the railing of the Brooklyn Bridge. A vampire asks God to take pity on him. His barely beating heart wishes for true love. The next few minutes will change them forever and plunge them into worlds where they were never meant to be together.

One of my favorite parts of this book was doing the research for it.  One of the settings is New Orleans, and the things I discovered was WOW!  Note: Some things in this book are real and some are not. It’s for the discerning reader to find.

Enjoy your day reading on the beach and be sure to use skin protection from the sun.

Be Our Guest: Science Fiction Author Chet Gottfried

A diplodocus skull, from the Project Gutenberg ebook Dinosaurs, by William Diller Matthew (dated dinosaur information but some good illustrations).

Nights of Passion welcomes my favorite science fiction writer Chet Gottfried, author of the hiliarious SF novel Into the Horsebutt Nebula.

Garbage

Perhaps it’s the easiest concept in existence: garbage. Everyone knows what

garbage is and what one does with it. Garbage is thrown out.

But is it always that simple? The answer is yes in the case of broken devices,

cracked glass, empty ice cream containers, politicians’ promises, and so forth. Easily, in

the majority of cases, garbage is truly garbage and it’s best discarded.

There is also the situation in which the idea of garbage becomes questionable. For

instance, what about that ancient book on something or another that might be wasting

valuable space on a shelf crying out for new books? I suppose that could be called

“borderline” garbage.[image error]

Passing the borderline can include something that is both rare and valuable. That occurs in my SF novel Into the Horsebutt Nebula when Captain Baines and crew enter

“black space,” one of the dead places described in my novel:

Within these galactic currents float the debris that comes along with a galaxy. As with any current, there are dead places, in which two or more currents may meet

and come to a halt, the galactic version of an alluvial plain or delta. . . .

Civilizations come and go, their garbage lives on forever.

While in the dead place, the captain makes a remarkable discovery, and his

companion explains the reasoning.

Baines stared at the darkened windshield. Something white bounced off it. “Was

that a jawbone of a diplodocus? Sauropod skulls are supposed to be fragile and

valuable—I mean, rare. Who’d throw one away?”

“You know how it goes. Someone somewhere builds a priceless collection, and one day kicks the bucket. The cleaning people don’t know a dinosaur skull from

an empty whiskey bottle, and it all gets chucked out.”

Although a humorous novel, Into the Horsebutt Nebula has its philosophical

moments, such as the realization that at times garbage may not be garbage.

Chet’s books can be found in many places including Amazon in Kindle and Print.

Our Mind in Age

Aging really is something. While I’ve seen the gray hairs pop up and the wrinkles begin to stick, I’m really not here to complain about my own aging today—or really to complain at all. It’s more of an observation and something I find quite curious. At times, I feel like I’m watching my life on the television, as if it isn’t really happening to me or that the feelings I have are detached in some way.

I really do spend quite a bit of my time day after day talking to folks about retirement and how to plan for it so I am not a stranger to comments on aging and how people feel as they get older, but hearing and experiencing something are two very different things.

Most recently, my family and I just got back from a trip to Italy. It was an amazing trip packed with lots of experiences and places to visit, and even still, I’m sure I could have added another 2 to 3 weeks on the end of it and it still wouldn’t have been enough. While admittedly, I enjoyed this trip, I can honestly say that this is one of the first amazing trips I’ve been on that I have not been completely depressed with coming home. It isn’t because it wasn’t fun, but more because I feel myself changing.

We spend so much time focusing on our external appearances as we age or even how we physically feel that not much thought seems to be given to our minds (until they really noticeably go down hill!). What I find interesting are the little changes—my focus on calm and peace (clean air and a tranquil environment over endless adventure) and my preference for order. These are drastic changes from the “me” of twenty years ago.

I have no issue with myself now or the way I thought of twenty years ago, I simply find the nuances of life’s journey fascinating.

Happy writing this week!

From the way they giggle, they could be pixies.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Pixie Power! You are a detailed oriented person but others bring other gifts to the table, too. Be open to the options offered by others.

Gemini:

Pixies spread a light over possibilities. You have many and your choices are varied. Take your time choosing.

Cancer:

Scorpio:

Pixies when joined together make a powerful group. Make some new friends. Share common goals. Consider your options.

Sagittarius:

Pixies are an ancient race and so sometimes viewpoints get stuck. Be willing to listen to the viewpoints of others. Go somewhere you’ve never been before and get a new perspective.

Reading on the Beach with When Love Survives by Susan Hanniford Crowley

I love reading on the beach. I find the surf comforting and the whole atmosphere restful. Today I’d like to recommend the beginning of a series-the Vampires in Manhattan series. Some people find that by reading things in order, they get insights and get to know the characters better. If you don’t know me, I write fun supernatural and vampire adventure romance. Every time I dream, I dream up a new book. My brain is a bit like Chicago O’Hare Airport with book/stories waiting for their turn to land.

Here’s Book 1 in the first series.

When Love Survives, Vampires in Manhattan Book 1  is available in Kindle, Nook, Kobo and Smashwords and iBooks (on Apple devices).  It’s the love story of two unusual rescue workers in New York on the city’s darkest day. One of the the things I love about this book is the look at New York’s supernatural committee. Hint: There’s more than vampires in the Big Apple.

Enjoy your day reading on the beach and be sure to use skin protection from the sun.

Fatherly Remembrance Paranormal-Scope

That is a family photo taken 5 years ago at the Flanders Fish Market Restaurant with my dad who was a veteran of the US Navy in submarines. He has passed away but is fondly remembered.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Aries:

Vampires love the summer nights with the strolls on the warm beach sand. It reminds them of life and they tend to ignore nearby lovers. Memories are key for them and you right now.

Taurus:

Were Pugs are playing in the grass. They can’t wait for the catepillars to all become butterflies. Take some time to enjoy nature and have a childlike wonder of life.

Gemini:

Were red squirrels are taking over the feeder. Welcome new friends in your life and learn from their adventures. New opportunities are coming your way.

Cancer:

Werewolves are cuddly when playing beach volley ball. Schedule more fun time in your life and don’t forget to cuddle those who need it.

Leo:

Shapeshifters are enjoying the food festivals. Get the calendars and plan to expand your cuisine with new delights.

Virgo:

Were gray squirrels love details. It’s time to go over the details of your budget so you don’t overspend on nutty but fun things.

Libra:

Sirens are dancing on the waves. Bring your own special music to any event. Make new friends and try new songs.

Scorpio:

Mermaids love the gentle surf, but are curious about the mountains. Plan a trip to someplace new.

Sagittarius:

Dragons travel in the high atmosphere. Getting fresh air is vital to your health. Re-evaluate your exercise regimen. Always consult a physician before doing so.

Capricorn:

The were lilac is a rare bush that is alive. It throws a soothing fragrance at passer-bys to ease worries and help you relax. Take every chance to add relaxation time to your life.

Aquarius:

Gremlins love playing with machines during the summer time when energy use is high. Be sure to check your appliances on a regular basis.

The Mysterious Disappearance of Susan

My Lilacs

Here is the lilac bush my daugher, Sarah, planted for me having lilacs. I was so excited to see them on Memorial Day Weekend blooming. Sadly I got very sick the Sunday before Memorial Day Monday and had to go the emergency room. I was so sick they admitted me to the hospital and I mysteriously disappeared from my online life.

I lived there for 13 days, mostly surviving on IV nutrition while the doctors and nurses tried to get my illness under control. Sadly the section I was in had no or little WIFI, so I switched to my data plan which was also affected and I was limited to using my phone for phone calls from time to time. I also had a hospital phone (traditional phone) to use.

Since I was sick most of the time, I didn’t really need to be online. My brain lacked clarity and undoubtedly, it wouldn’t be interesting.

I am working on a lot of projects this summer.  I hope if you’re on the beach you’re reading Vampire King of New York or Vampire Princess of New York. Book 3 in the Arnhem Knights of New York series is still in production.  Because I’m slowly recovering, that launch is sort of timed with me.  Before we know it, it will be here.

Acceptance

One of the greatest gains with age for me has been a comfort with myself. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely have flaws and main things I don’t like, but I’ve also come to some degree of acceptance and understanding of who I am and what I can or cannot do well. As I watch my kids start school and get older, self-acceptance is something I’m ever watchful for with them. Kids can be cruel and so can this world. As a parent, you want your children to build a tough skin to navigate life but at the same time you feel the need to protect them from the situations that might build this so called tough skin. After all, how many of us have a thick enough skin ourselves?

The truth is, I’m not sure what makes each of us accepting of ourselves. Why is it that some of us cannot see our good traits even if they were magnified times a hundred while others can’t see anything beyond themselves? Neither is an idea situation but my guess is that most of us tend to focus more on our flaws than anything positive. We do it with the rest of life too—gravitating towards the latest negative gossip or tragic news story. It is hard to admit but as a society we tend to point out others’ flaws so easily because the hope is they’ll eclipse our own. But none of us are perfect and that’s okay. Those imperfections make us uniquely human and the faster we accept them, the happier we’ll be.

Happy writing this week!
