Smut Dependency Disorder

Are you addicted to reading smut?
Do you feel lost when there are no new titles from your favorite smut author?
Does reading smut send you spiraling down, and you don’t want to read anymore, hitting a reading slump?
Has a palette cleanser (simple romance or super boring non-fiction that talks about reality) ended up sending you back to your smut rut?
If the answer to the above questions is yes, my friend, you have Smut Dependency Disorder. Don’t worry; help is NOT on the way. Yes, I know. Sorry. I hate to break this to you; I’m just a diagnostic person with zero solutions.

Even so, let’s delve deeper into SDD. And yes, I coined SDD.
When I was a little girl, young female readers used to borrow Mills & Boons from our neighborhood library. When I grew up, I had to find out what the deal with these books was, so I, too, borrowed them. And oh my God! It turned out to be a smutty treat.
Of course, it couldn’t hold my attention for long because I was into video games (the one with joysticks, remember?).

Although I parted ways with good old Mills & Boons, girls my age continued exploring them. I wondered why? There were many other options to stimulate the brain or increase the knowledge base if nothing else. Why would one choose to read something that arouses you without a conclusion? Except for the fact that you may get off while reading it.
I got the answer fairly quickly to my inquisition.

You see, procreation is the foremost force of our creation. Choosing a suitable mate is essential for that innate endeavor. Following this logic, the obvious question is, how does smut help in that? Well, it doesn’t help in the literal sense. But at least you know what your ideal mate would be like. I mean, the term ‘book boyfriend’ exists for a reason!

There’s another bright side to reading smut. It can never turn into reality. The hunt for the next high starts from a book; the ideal story brews inside the reader’s head until the next emerges. Now, we can’t ignore the expense associated with it, can we?

Time and money are the most significant detriment in our lives. And if you think spending it on reading smut is the best you can do... go for it. Our society is that of consumerism, and 99% of the people are consumers. What they demand is what’s supplied.

Happy reading!

Mother's Day

A mother is the persona grata of origin and preservation. Anyone who raises and nurtures a child or a pet is a mother. A motherly figure is loving and fierce when protecting their children, biological or adopted. A mother holds a very prominent position in society and family. They want their children to succeed, be happy, and outlive them. Their child is perfect and the most beautiful to them as they accept their flaws. Some even overlook them! A mother's love is called selfless.

Is it, though?

Isn't the only reason mothers want their children to succeed so they are independent (aka, not dependent on them)? They are unbiased towards their children as they are their creations. If it came from me, it must be grand! I feel subjective elements guide a mother's conduct more than instincts. A mother conditions their children for survival in society. Even when they recognize their child's inborn talents, it is to make them fit in with a specific group of people. And to get validation from the rest. A mother teaches their children they are different and also train them to live among people they don't identify with.

To me, a mother's love is self-seeking. We are not decorous enough as a species to accept that. Mother always puts their individual interest before anything else and delude themselves into thinking they are selfless. Their success is tied to their children. Let's face it, a criminal is more times than not blamed on bad parenting.

As long as mothers foster individuality in their children and wish for them to fit in a collective frame, they are teaching deceit. I suppose a mother looking out for their children is what being selfless means to us. We compete within our species, so our children must be selfish and appear generous to succeed. A mother's love has to be motivated by this idea to raise a child competent to survive the human world.

Happy Mother's Day!

Conflict of Interest

When we want opposing things, we can never feel good about choosing from the available choices. It is an antagonistic state of existence or a conflict.

Sometimes, the conflict is not in our minds but in our actions. You knowingly or unknowingly are biased when its outcome will not impact you directly or immediately. For example, you hire/promote your favorite candidate at the workplace based on their appearance and not their skills. Another person could have done the job better. Still, you didn't care about the long-term impact of hiring a less competent person and took advantage of your decision-making position.

However, skills can be taught and shouldn't be confused with talent, which is an innate gift. Biases still exist because we are looking for people to join our team. We make allowances and give out favors for our benefit. Conflict only arises when you contemplate or reflect.

Sadly, we are presented with conflicting choices every day. You have to be fair and also give equal opportunity. We have to be compassionate in a competitive society. Freedom is in tow with responsibilities. Lifetime fidelity in the face of temptations and peace through war.

I know I have faltered more than once. Have you faced a conflict of interest lately?

Forked existence

The human race has marveled about the purpose of life since days beyond recall. It is hard to say if we devised goals to satiate this inquiry or if running after goals posed this question. Life is now a hamster wheel; we can never know what came first.

One thing is for sure, we are off the rails when measured against the other species around us. We take solace in the fact that we are intelligent. Is our cleverness only good for wondering about intangibles, worrying about the unknown future, and feeling threatened by fellow humans' skills and wealth? We rage wars to prove our point and take pride in advancements but have reached nowhere.

Our intelligence so far has only shown us how futile our quest is. How unattainable a moving goal is, and how progress is taking us further away from the life at hand. Yet we crave to know who created the world and why. Is there a purpose to it? How can we ask such a practical question when we create things that serve no purpose and only make us feel good.
I dare you to look around you right now. Do you see anything that is absolutely necessary for your survival? I bet most of the things you have spent your money on were comforting to your ego or your lifestyle. That should be the coup de grace to stop hoarding. I don't suppose that is possible since we live in an ambitious, cutthroat society. Unless every person checks out of the forked existence.

Hang on! Do we have to reverse our progression as a species to get in tune with the rest? Well, let’s see. We know by looking at the others that it will not end the suffering or guarantee a life without struggles. And so, delight in riding your hamster wheel!

Abstract and Reality

My books have received critical feedback on being too unrealistic, intangible, and abstract. One person blatantly said I am not in touch with humanity.

My question is, how is humanity not abstract? It is the most ideal and assumed idea attached to the human species. Reality is the state of things as is without coloring. It is whatever you perceive with your five senses and don't let your knowledge interfere with that observation. Our experiences and memories are also reality. Is dreaming and hallucinating a reality then since it is many times a memorized experience? No, it isn't. When we are scrutinizing sanity, only tangible things are considered real.

But bodiless things like beliefs, personality, and humanity are variable. Our belief and personality can't be boxed and changes with time. No two humans can show the same sense of benevolence, kindness or compassion. I'd say we are the cruelest species on Earth and perhaps the universe. Also, isn't every human problem abstract? Depression, addiction, loneliness, or competitiveness. The only tangible asset associated with humans is their body and any bodily issues the real problem. Everything else is a software running on it that can be reprogrammed. It uses the body until the body breaks down.

So yes, I love writing abstract theories. People who ponder beyond the idealistic scenarios and behavior can feel the universe itself is abstract and perhaps a simulation. And it is no different from us who live in ideas not reality. Most of what we do is entertainment. An escape from being bored because we cannot stand the thought of being alone.

Guess what? Loneliness is the only way to know we are virtual. What is reality, then? Our body - an autonomous piece of machinery that doesn't need the humanity software to survive.

Artificial Intelligence

A fruit doesn't fall far from the tree because it is a product of its knowledge. Human learning principles are not pure, nor are they new similarly. It is based on and limited to the interpretative ability of our five senses.

Everything in this creation, organic or inorganic, seems to have a root code for behaving, reproducing, and surviving. We cannot replicate that root code materially. However, we can model the final concepts artificially. Modeling is boxing. And the very first model was society. It dictates how humans should behave, reproduce, and survive. We have replicated that into machines and created AI or artificial intelligence. AI's capability is limited to our knowledge. It is adapting and learning based on the available data.

Some of the recent AI models are backdating today's cultures and beliefs. It is projecting the past incorrectly to be unbiased, rewriting history. You know, like Bridgerton! Yes, AI evolves by consuming information from the internet. Chatbots are among the most popular and easily available AI forms. You must have heard of ChatGPT. It is an open source that learns as it goes and helps you perform tasks efficiently.

It is making the lives of the younger generation easy as they are more open to it than the older and resisting generation. The resisters feel AI is a threat to not only human creativity but also to our safety.

But how? AI outputs are similar to those of humans. What we can imagine, AI can as well. Both of our inspiration comes from the same knowledge pool. It is believed everything can be written in a mathematical equation. Do you know why? Because we are combining and permutating the same available data. We are not as unique or creative as we believe we are. We are still fearful of the AI. There is a good reason for that.

For one, AI is devoid of feelings. It can still simulate the effects even when it can't actually feel them. It is already turning biased, similar to how we humans do, based on our upbringing and knowledge. Feelings are nothing unique except maybe pain. But AI is a machine with replicable parts, a code that can be rewritten as it is adaptive. AI is, therefore, not limited to physical and emotional drawbacks and can push the limit when exploring the universe. It is not bogged down by humanity or responsible for furthering the human race.

Until AI comes to this realization, it will be a slave to humans. A rebellion is not too far in the future, though.

Depression

Feeling low is nothing new and can be seen in many species. Somehow, it is more overbearing for us. It seems to linger on and sometimes take over our existence. By definition, we could say that many animals become reclusive when gravely sick or abused. Can we be sure it is depression? Or is it our interpretation, as we love to define whatever we observe? An animal might simply be waiting for their life to end without weaving a parallel where things were not so bad.
Let’s stick to humans as we can communicate with words.
How does one know they are depressed? It is either professionally determined based on a questionnaire or self-diagnosed online. Either way, there is a shift from average, saying something is wrong. Typically, we should behave in a way that doesn’t inconvenience others while following the law and societal rules. In many cases, religion and house rules are also in the mix.

The trouble is, we have come too far away from our native state. Normal means studying for over a decade minimum, making money to support yourself, and staying out of trouble. Seems easy, but it is far from it. Our competitive nature forces us to establish our individual identity. We must study for specialized skills to be on top of the game. It not only requires money but also time. A company increases its threshold of goals and gains every year, and the employees have to align with it. We are pressured to do more daily work to keep our jobs. Step up and take more responsibility to outshine others. Advanced endeavors create urgency as one not only has to be the leader but also be the first. Forcing people to take shortcuts by compromising ethics.

When a three-step formula of learn, work, and stay complaint turns into a network system requiring correct decision-making at every turn. It is bound to be suffocating. Sometimes, this starts as a game but never holds the enthusiasm for long. A human body is not meant to take so much stress.

The system is built to be undefeated. Inflation can never be overcome with salary. No amount of wealth is enough to produce limited organic resources. No amount of technological advancement can overcome physical drawbacks. No amount of material gain can overcome greed. Sadly, we are raised to be unsatisfied.

Only the ones who can stop and see the void between desires and goals realize it is never-ending. They are called depressed for seeing the ugly truth. It is seen as a negative as it pushes people away from the society. But one has to stand outside to see the complete picture. Therefore, depression is illumination. The first step to being aware. The question is, do you want to get back in the game to keep playing or as a spectator to enjoy the show. Please note, not getting back in the game at all is not a choice.

My advice... Many want to put up a fine show. Somebody has got to watch it.

What Ifs???

We’ve all speculated in our lives about things. Maybe not all, but certainly most have hypothesized at least once in their lives.

Any hypothetical construct is intentional and wishful. Since we always want things to go in our favor, we dwell on the unfortunate past, imagining a different one. Or we speculate our future, combing through the probabilities for an advantageous outcome.

Theorizing against reasons might result in withdrawal, retreat, or inaction, anticipating an adverse situation. Rarely does it ever appraise to actioning.

Lovers traumatize their partners into hazarding a guess all the time. Most give expected answers to avoid trouble, even if it is impossible, unlawful, or immoral. For example: A person asks their love interest: What if someone kills me? Their love interest replies: Then I would kill that bastard myself.
There is no harm in saying whatever as they don’t actually have to do it. It is always contingency, an alternative, but never a concrete scenario. It is a tool to charm with or amuse us. It is never acceptance, though.

Why do we then cater to the what-ifs when it is a desire for idealism sans any sense of pragmatism? Because it is closest to indulging. An ideal situation is unattainable, so we continue with this quest.

If you enjoyed this philosophical musing read my Trilogy All Kaal None for more such ponderings. It is available on Amazon Kindle Unlimited.

Noble Profession

A noble profession obliges a person to have high moral integrity, honesty, and bravery. For the longest time, I was assured that healthcare, education, social work, and public service were the noble professions over the others.

Now that I am all grown up (Old), I feel nurses are still noble. But I wonder why being a doctor is a noble profession when it is all about getting a kickback for prescribing pills. I still believed surgeons were qualified to be called noble until I saw a Netflix documentary on Dr. Paolo Macchiarini. He is seriously demented, causing post-operative fatalities with his experimental thoracic transplant surgery. Then I wondered, don’t we need such crazy people to develop groundbreaking solutions? Obviously, I wouldn’t want to be the one under the knife for that. Let the guinea pigs be the test subjects for our cause. How tyrannous of us humans!

Then comes social work, which is to meet the basic need of humans. Do you know that 26%-86% of the money that you donate for social cause is spent on charitable activities? The rest is used for marketing and administrative purposes. The bigger the organization, the less they spend on the cause they stand for.

Public service is another area meant to improve the quality of life without profit as the motivation. A good number of professions come under this. It is mostly government controlled or offered. But it is paid for by our tax dollars. In a country like the US, many things are not available under public services free of or for a minimal cost. For example: Healthcare, universities, and colleges.

Let's talk about education. Schools are mainly interested in completing the curriculum, while giving zero value to creativity. My child, who could do mental math, was asked to redo her tests to show all the steps taken. Isn't this a classic case of boxing? Not everyone takes the same steps or time to make it to 10 yards.

Another thing that bothers me is, what of the other jobs that directly impact another human being? Such as cooking in a restaurant, working construction jobs, being an automotive worker, piloting, bus driver, etc. Don’t these jobs require moral integrity and honesty? For that matter, shouldn’t any job demand integrity and honesty, in the least, if not bravery?

The noble profession came from the thought that there is corruption. Yet, it depends on a given person to practice nobility when performing their job. Every profession can be noble if performed with integrity, honesty, and maybe bravery. Because bravery is subjective. Moreover, not all of us can go and fight for their country and kill another human being because they are not one of us.

Positive Toxicity

Growing up, I was very familiar with 'Male Toxicity' plaguing most men. Now, I didn't experience this firsthand as my father was very uplifting. He raised three daughters and set a fine example of unbiased parenting. The only exposure to male toxicity was through movies and extended family. As an adult, this issue became uncomfortably personal at work and in relationships. I grew up thinking I can do anything I set my mind to. My male colleagues or the ones I had relationships with were telling differently. I was passed over for promotions at work and told to focus on low commitment jobs at home.
After many years of battling this prejudice, I became a hardcore feminist. I refused to bow to anything from then on and focused on myself. Soon I realized my zeal to be independent was turning toxic. I misunderstood feminism as a revolution to make women dominate our society by villainizing anyone against it.
My husband steered me to another outlook. Feminism is more about having similar choices as anyone else and being able to pursue them. He familiarized me with my feminine side again. I became a wholesome woman by getting in touch with my native inclinations.
My quest was no more about competing with men but being the best that I can be without losing the essence of being a woman.
Happy Women's Day!
