Positive Toxicity

Growing up, I was very familiar with 'Male Toxicity' plaguing most men. Now, I didn't experience this firsthand as my father was very uplifting. He raised three daughters and set a fine example of unbiased parenting. The only exposure to male toxicity was through movies and extended family. As an adult, this issue became uncomfortably personal at work and in relationships. I grew up thinking I can do anything I set my mind to. My male colleagues or the ones I had relationships with were telling differently. I was passed over for promotions at work and told to focus on low commitment jobs at home.
After many years of battling this prejudice, I became a hardcore feminist. I refused to bow to anything from then on and focused on myself. Soon I realized my zeal to be independent was turning toxic. I misunderstood feminism as a revolution to make women dominate our society by villainizing anyone against it.
My husband steered me to another outlook. Feminism is more about having similar choices as anyone else and being able to pursue them. He familiarized me with my feminine side again. I became a wholesome woman by getting in touch with my native inclinations.
My quest was no more about competing with men but being the best that I can be without losing the essence of being a woman.
