What Ifs???
We’ve all speculated in our lives about things. Maybe not all, but certainly most have hypothesized at least once in their lives.
Any hypothetical construct is intentional and wishful. Since we always want things to go in our favor, we dwell on the unfortunate past, imagining a different one. Or we speculate our future, combing through the probabilities for an advantageous outcome.
Theorizing against reasons might result in withdrawal, retreat, or inaction, anticipating an adverse situation. Rarely does it ever appraise to actioning.
Lovers traumatize their partners into hazarding a guess all the time. Most give expected answers to avoid trouble, even if it is impossible, unlawful, or immoral. For example: A person asks their love interest: What if someone kills me? Their love interest replies: Then I would kill that bastard myself.
There is no harm in saying whatever as they don’t actually have to do it. It is always contingency, an alternative, but never a concrete scenario. It is a tool to charm with or amuse us. It is never acceptance, though.
Why do we then cater to the what-ifs when it is a desire for idealism sans any sense of pragmatism? Because it is closest to indulging. An ideal situation is unattainable, so we continue with this quest.
