Conflict of Interest

When we want opposing things, we can never feel good about choosing from the available choices. It is an antagonistic state of existence or a conflict.

Sometimes, the conflict is not in our minds but in our actions. You knowingly or unknowingly are biased when its outcome will not impact you directly or immediately. For example, you hire/promote your favorite candidate at the workplace based on their appearance and not their skills. Another person could have done the job better. Still, you didn't care about the long-term impact of hiring a less competent person and took advantage of your decision-making position.

However, skills can be taught and shouldn't be confused with talent, which is an innate gift. Biases still exist because we are looking for people to join our team. We make allowances and give out favors for our benefit. Conflict only arises when you contemplate or reflect.

Sadly, we are presented with conflicting choices every day. You have to be fair and also give equal opportunity. We have to be compassionate in a competitive society. Freedom is in tow with responsibilities. Lifetime fidelity in the face of temptations and peace through war.

I know I have faltered more than once. Have you faced a conflict of interest lately?
