ANW's Thoughtful Thursday

How you do handle the interruptions?

Plans get interrupted all of the time; and when they do, there is good reason why they did.

My professional career did not go as I had planned. The last thing in the world that I ever planned on was being taken out of a profession, Nursing, at 46 years old. While trying to fill the workforce with great Nurses, I kept getting interrupted, as I worked to create a healthy work environment. After so many interruptions, I succumbed to a broken heart.

Part of the plan, yes; at the time, no. The Lord knew what He was doing, just like the plans He had for Esther (see Esther 2:16-17, Ch. 8). Now, 7 years later, I am most grateful that He interrupted me; because I have the armor to fight without sacrificing my health and wellness.

So, when your plans get interrupted, instead of getting mad, know that there is good reason why they are happening to you and use them, as they are part of the plan that He has set out for you. #PurposefulInterruptions

ANW's Wisdom Wednesday

What leads you?

To be led is to trust, as trust is truth.

I, for my entire career, trusted a profession, Nursing, to lead me, only to be let down. The lack of accountability, responsibility, care, kindness, transparency, loyalty, trust, goodness, honesty, integrity, help, support, compassion, and gratitude was no where to be found; and once it took me down, with a heart attack, I trusted no one, as I lived in fear and isolation for a very long time. While trying to find myself again, over the last 7 years, I found my new lead, "the Spirit of truth" (John 14:17) and He has never wavered.

So, if you want to be led with truth and trust, might you reach out to "The Advocate, the Holy Spirit" who "will teach you all things and will remind you of everything that [he has] said to you" (14:26).

ANW's Takeaway Tuesday

What keeps you persistent?

No one ever said that getting what you want or life would be easy, especially when the odds are stacked against you. But, there are ways to be able to beat them or receive justice, if you are willing to go the distance and find out.

For almost 18 years, as a Nurse Educator, I fought to stay in a profession that I loved, but did not love me back. For trying to improve the unhealthy work environment, I was dominated, patronized, criticized, sabotaged, back stabbed, put down, belittled, undermined, threatened, and much more, until the Lord "[brought] about justice" (Luke 18:7), a stress-induced heart attack.

Now, after 7 years, I continue to seek justice for Nursing and Nurses still facing what I faced most of my Nursing career, Incivility. I do so "by prayer and petition" (Philippians 4:6), every single day; and patiently and persistently wait for Him to help me "bring about justice" (Luke 18:7), just like He did for me when no one else would.

So, if you are considering throwing in the towel, might you reconsider and "not give up", but "pray" (18:1), because when you do, "it will be given to you" (11:9). #Persistent & #Win/#GetJustice

ANW's Meaningful Monday

How do you protect yourself from bad weather?

Bad weather can pop up anywhere and at anytime; and trying to create a safe climate, in bad weather, can be extremely difficult, if not impossible, especially when you have a lot of strong currents.

For years, the currents never let up and storms kept building and getting worse, especially when trying to create a conducive work environment. Finally, after many stormy years, I, personally, received "shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm" (Isaiah 32:2), the Lord. He took me out of the hurricane, with a heart attack, and brought me to safety. Now, after 7 years, the storms have cleared, allowing me to "see" (32:3), "hear" (32:2), and "understand" (32:4) everything through His Word, my weather predictors.

So, if you are dealing with bad weather, please let me, through my work, help you get away from those who "make [you] out to be guilty, . . . ensnare the defender in court and with false testimony deprive the innocent of justice” (29:21), like my work did to me. #SeekShelter #Safety #Clarity & #Truth

ANW's Savory Sunday

What music makes you sing?

Song and Singing, even if you can't carry a tune, is a powerful outlet, as it connects the mind, body, and soul, in both sadness and gladness.

My life is filled with song and singing, no matter the mood or situation, as it lifts, comforts, and calms me. As I wrote my book, "Mindful Meditations of A Nurse Warrior", song was a huge part of my writing. I dedicated an entire chapter, Meditation 6, to Music; but, also, infused songs, throughout the entire book, as each song helped with my healing and set me "free from [my] enemies" (2 Samuel 22:49), uncivil Nurse Educators and Administrators; and for this, "I...sing the praises of [his] name" (22:50).

So, if you like music, may the songs that you listen to and sing also include praising His name for the goodness that He has bestowed upon you. #SingHisPraises

ANW's Soulful Saturday

How authentic are you?

Authentic people are extremely hard to find, because there are many who have a hard time being honest and telling the truth. And, as hard as the truth may be to hear, at times, it is the only way to live.

Refusing to hear and acknowledge the truth, through increasing attrition rates, call-ins, deaths, infections, incident reports, and much more, is Nursing. And the more this goes on, the sicker the profession gets. Treatment is needed STAT! I know this, because I am one of those statistics; yet a statistic that is trying to help improve this long-term illness.

So, if you want to always hear the truth, might you consider letting Him tell you, because He is "the truth" (John 14:6); and the truth does not lie.

ANW's Fruitful Friday

How well equipped are you?

It takes time, dedication, and hard work to develop a skill and get good at it; and equipping you with a certain skill set is the Lord (see Exodus 31:6).

He will provide you with whatever skills that you need to do your job and do it well. In my fight against Incivility, within Nursing, and advocating for healthy lives, He has given me the knowledge, wisdom, patience, perseverance, courage, strength, confidence, focus, presence, calm, faith, hope, help, and support to do mine.

So, if you need help developing or honing the skills that He has so graciously given you, might you seek Him, because He wants you to be able to do the job that He has set out for you to do. #Plan #Prepare & #Produce

ANW's Thoughtful Thursday

How poor or rich are you?

"You will always have the poor among you" (John 12:8); but "there need [not] be" (Deuteronomy 15:4).

I worked with a lot of poor people, in a profession that is supposed to be a caring one, only to be hurt and harmed by Nurses who were self-serving, unkind, and uncaring. They, like the Israelites, chose to be poor, because they did not follow the rules and did what they wanted to.

So, if you do not want to be poor, may you "fully obey the LORD your God" (15:5) and become one of the richest people in the world. #NeverBePoor

ANW's Wisdom Wednesday

How healthy are your habits?

Habits are formed through repetition; and the more they are repeated, the more ingrained they become and the harder they are to break.

For almost 18 years, I tried to change a toxic work environment that was unwilling to change; and for doing so, I suffered greatly, a heart attack, at 46 years of age. Fortunately, I survived. Now, after 7 years, I am happy and healthy, and, now, seek, daily, the one who has the "wisdom and knowledge" (Romans 11:33) to help me develop habits with "sober judgment" (12:3). And, in this instance, knowing when to step away.

So, if you "do not [want to] conform to the pattern of this world" then "be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (12:2) with His "wisdom and knowledge" (11:33)-a great habit. #BuildGood & #BreakBad

ANW's Takeaway Tuesday

How often does your wheat need to be sifted or your corn threshed?

From season to season, the grain needs to be sifted and husks winnowed. Asking help from Satan to test both Simon Peter and Job, by sifting them "as wheat" (Luke 22:31), was Christ; and as a result, each remained faithful, because of His prayers for both.

Over the last 7 years, The Lord has done a great deal of sifting and chaffing on me by removing the anger, guilt, denial, depression, and bargaining, and a whole lot more-all in association with the damaging and disease infested Incivility that is affecting Nursing, through prayer and intercession (see Romans 8:34).

So, if you are in need of some sifting and chaffing, like me, along with Simon Peter and Job, might you, too, seek, as a believer, His prayers, the "word" (John 17:17) and the "truth" (17:19), and be sanctified by Him (17:19). #Sifting & #ChaffingOutSin
