How it happened: Book Cover-Motorcycle Man

A lake with the main character and his motorcycle.    Three pictures later. Lots of shadowing and twisting the motorcycle until it faced the right way with the shadows...and everyone was happy.  Finding a modern-edge lettering that would pop against both the blue and the yellow of the sky took lots of attempts but carried over to the back cover effortlessly. With white below to show a difference from the book description above.

Formatting Friday: Children's Books 2

Another option on the illustrations for you children's book would be white background illustration. These don't need an extra bleed on the outside and are more versitile than full page illustrations. Using a white background would give the option to make designs around the illustrations using your text. This also makes the text easy to read no matter the color.

Travel Thursday-Medieval

A sword swings making a swoosh through the air. The crowd can rival that of any NFL stadium. Eras long gone, customs upheld by fanatic few.   Horses gallop to wood chips flight. Sweat drips over men wearing chains and kilts with steel in leather.   Long dresses and garish crowns adorn braided hair of ladies that curtsy. Some hide beneath hooded capes, the air of mystery eternal.   Jesters entertain with actors of off-color humor. Jugglers light fire to torches just missing dancers twirling,

Artsy Monday-Color Me Red by Any Name

A heart beats faster and increased breathing is good for the body. That's the first instinct to red the human body has. Whether ingrained in us from bloodier days of a savage world full of violence and dog eat dog behaviors or the more modern aspect of the attention getting fashions that are born of crimson favor, we might not know.  Either way there is a vivid energy created in each of us at the sight of everything ruby from a velvety rose to blood welling up from a kitchen cut. Or my least

How it happened: Book Cover-Dripping

Here's a picture and what the book is about... Hey, not a bad way to start, especially in 2009 when I was still fairly new at this. Yes, please give me something to work with that's simple.    Now you might notice that his book is the front cover only. Because I couldn't say how many different back covers were gone through but I can tell you a little something about those computer drawn blood drops. When the movies have to make blood look like blood, they can't actually use blood. Nope, they
