Book Boyfriends
Since before the written word, women have been falling in love with the men in stories. We are hardwired to go for the most masculant verial form of man, which are the men that end up in stories of old and new. Even more so as a writer we get to mold and sculpt the men we create. Each muscle, expression, and scar appears in and moves with the press of ink on paper. We get to choose the way a man moves and what they say. We pick our favorite features and exagerate them to a dreamy state of

Artsy Monday-Once Upon a Paper
There used to be art in everything we as humans did. Or at least more. Before photography, long before the selfie, before the printing press too, everything was hand created and hand copied. I came across some beautiful papers not too long ago that fall into this category. I can see the painstaking process, and the result. Beautiful. When I found these papers, I had to clean them up, which gave way space for quotes. Of course, if you have a better poem, you can change it below, or drop it

How it happened: Book Cover-Life as a Ghost
I wanted to make sure everyone knew that the primary young woman in Life as a Ghost was plain, introverted, and didn't really care what other people thought. (2007) Really there are more women out there that fall into this category than you'd believe. Yet, there is a scene where Storm, our protagonist, puts a red hyacinth in her hair. So I wanted to include that bright pop into the cover. Also I wanted something far simpler. Having a simple cover allows for the highlightingof the most

Formatting Friday: Flourish
Scene separation can be simple. In some books you can go as simple as skipping an extra line, though if you do that very often or have extra blank space in the formatting you might want to go a step farther. Live Like the Breeze is a great example of how simple you can go. Those little asterisks *** will be more than enough to tell your reader that the scene is changing. I do suggest that you use either three or five as one isn't quite enough. I suggest using caution in trying anything across

Travel Thursday-Blackened Shores
Black as night in bright day light, I walk across fire cooled by sultry sea. Angered gods give darkened skies of ash and pain. Could they know what they give us in return from their flaming fury? For not all who walk the land wish to walk upon brightened beauty of garish greens or silvery snow. No, for those of darkened thoughts and deepened passions, only a dance upon the igneous will tame the distractons of our demons.

Badeaux Knights Scene
Dellani Oakes' favorite scene.I was on her podcast Monday and we had talked about reading this section because she loves it. Because the way the cast was going I chose to read the beginning of Mortals, Gods, and a Muse. It's hard to not read the opening when we are talking about Muses and Schizophrenia. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/rrradio/... A bit into chapter six. She dropped the beer bottle in the trash before

Artsy Monday-Buy the Shoes
Fashion can be beauty. I'm not talking about underage girls strutting around to horrible music in an outfit befitting a Lewis Carroll nightmare. I'm talking that piece in your closet that you put on and you feel--amazing. For me it's normally a sweater. I'm sure there is some reason but that's it. For many women it's the shoes. Not to say the pictured footwear isn't a little odd, but those lines are fantastic. the details are exquisite and those colors...even my autumn heart smiles. Of course,
