How it happened: Book Cover-Carolina Wine Country

You have to make it match. That is the rule when making the second in a series. The problem is, you don't want anything to be too...matchy. For Ginger I wanted to keep that rich burgundy that mirros that thought of wine from the title, I felt though that the purple was in competition too much with the red. So for the second in the series I simplified everything. Fewer photos, they are inside instead. I think the overall came out beautiful.

Travel Thursday-White Nights

Amid a three hundred year old skyline of colored dooms the sun refuses to set. Of course, for a few weeks most of the latitude will experience white nights but this city with it's vivid love of life makes the nights brighter.  The days never stop but the world turns an amazing shade of pastel. The canals and rivers become shine and shimmer in shades of silver. Romance fills the air with longer sunsets and all night dates.

How it happened: Book Cover-Journalist Jumble

Sometime pieces fall together to make a something awesome. So when a political piece and the front art came across my desk I was excited. Add the local Winston-Salem skyline, setting it apart from the dark background.  The white letters had to pop against the dark but be set apart from the rest of the light colors. The Camel City Dispatches are on fire for the outrage are the political system.   Existential Threat Series needed to be gritty. The author's paintings made that easy to accomplish.

Travel Thursday-On the Road

No matter the auto, expensive and fully loaded or rusted with the floorboard missing, everyone-yes everyone-should take a drive. Not around the block or down the street but out across a road you've never driven. Out where mysterious new spaces are abound.   The joy of a car full of friends or family. Words jumbling together in fevered speed. Old grievance hash out like and spit out like gravel beneath the tires. Laughter at favored times roaring out for others to join in from the safety of their
