How it happened: Book Cover-Susan Surman
Sometimes you talk about a book with an author and the picture begins to paint itself. Perhaps the title sets the image for the story. Perhaps it is the passion with which an author can speak of their work that ebbs into my pores. These instances have always been my favorite to work on. One such cover, or author, is a friend of mine Susan Surman. This feisty woman has been across the world, as an actress, a writer, and one amazing woman. This is apparent in her writing. I had the pleasure

Travel Thursday-A Spa Day
I wish to soak in a pool of mud naked. My body should be scrubbed with salts from the Dead Sea or a desert that is hardly visited. Oils should be silky and smell of luxury. Lord knows at the price they charge everything should be worthy of the queen I wish to be. I want to sip something freshly opened, with floating fruit or bubbles, with a new glass in every room I visit. A man with hands made for basketballs, should rub the knots from my shoulders and lower back. Doesn't matter what he looks

Artsy Monday-Color Me Active Orange
I've told people for years that there is a psychology reason for the love of color. Not only does your favorite color say tremendous amounts about you but also can be used to your advantage. Why not? Others have been doing so for years. Let's go Team! Yes, there is a reason why so many sports teams(the Baltimore Orioles, the San Francisco Giants, and the Cincinnati Bengals) use Orange in their logos and the right companies too(Gatorade, Lowes, McD and Amazon). Not only is the color bright and

Formatting Friday: Title Pages
Each book should have its own flare. Every word is unique to that book and so should be the formatting and flourishes, or for the series as it may be. Whenever possible I prefer to make the title page match the front of the book. Sometimes in a freelance world the title page must be done prior to the cover and in those cases, of course, there is nothing to be done but attempt to make the title page a work of art of its own. I mean let's look. You have an entire page to highlight the name of

Travel Thursday-Snowing Petals
Cool weather of early spring and the ground still looks snow covered. Alas, no. Blossoms and buds scatter across the earth bringing to mind men built from fragrant petals rather than soft solid water. Picnic blankets beneath pregnant branches lazy lay about in tradition nearly as old as the trees. Towering temple watch over the traditions of old and the new yet to take hold. They watch as outside influences invade the tranquil islands. Yet, even when these temples have fallen the tree will

Artsy Monday-Color Me Confident Blue
I've told people for years that there is a psychology reason for the love of color. Not only does your favorite color say tremendous amounts about you but also can be used to your advantage. Why not? Others have been doing so for years. You know the blue that so many companies use. The blue of Facebook, AT&T, Ford, HP, Samsung...yeah I could go on. This is supposed to give us the illusion of a good upstanding company with longevity, oh and trust. Lawyers wear blue in the courtroom for the
