Twirl and Dip #SnipSun #snippetsunday
(Drake's POV) WIP
In the morning, he (Drake) headed downstairs, feeling refreshed and clearheaded. He had a goal now, but he had to be discreet. He couldn't let his bandmates or his manager know where he was heading. Not yet.
He'd turned off his phone last night but when he turned it on this morning texts and missed calls from his manager and bandmates kept coming in as his cell played catchup. He finally texted Malcom and told him he was okay and to tell the others he'd call them in a few days. Out of all his bandmates, Malcom asked the least questions.
"Sure," was texted back with a thumb's up emoji. He was a man a few words.
He entered the coffeehouse. It appeared it wasn't open for business yet, but Rowan and Maverick were at the bar eating breakfast and huddled over a clipboard.

Slept like a baby. Twirl and Dip
"I've been staying at Rowan's for months," Maverick told him as he handed Drake his keys to his place.
"I really appreciate it."
Maverick gripped his arm. "No problem. Get some sleep. You'll have a better perspective in the morning."
Drake entered the apartment and turned on a light. The living room and kitchen were adjacent to each other and the hall took him past the bathroom and then the bedroom. Not big nor luxurious but clean. He slept like a baby.

A story to tell. Twirl and Dip
"I didn't realize anything was missing in my life until she walked into my coffeehouse," Maverick said and glanced at him.
Drake chuckled. "Why do I have a feeling there's a story there?"
"There is." His lips curved and he seemed for a moment lost in thought.
"I hope you aren't going to keep me in suspense."
They chatted for hours, catching up and reminiscing about old times. The story about how Rowan and Maverick became involved proved a tale worthy of a movie of the week with a mystery and ghosts to boot. Sometimes real life proved more interesting than fiction.
When they finally called it a night, they headed outside the coffeehouse to the courtyard and headed up the stairs to the apartments above the coffeehouse.

Obviously, Maverick remembered how he left things with Eastyn. "I haven't worked out all the kinks." Which was putting it mildly.
Maverick's right brow quirked. "You might want to come up with something before you see her."
"Don't I know it."
"Here you go, boys," Rowan said as she placed the plates in front of them with a roast beef sandwich and potato chips. "I'm heading upstairs," she told Maverick then and leaned in to give him a kiss. Maverick returned the gesture with a caress of his own before he watched Rowan head toward the back.
"How did you land someone so classy?" Drake teased.

He and Maverick had hit it off when they met all those years ago on the road and shared stories over a few beers one night. Sure, they hadn't gotten together much in the last few years, but they'd kept in touch with a phone call now and again.
"Are you going home to see the woman you left behind?" Maverick added.
He nodded.
Maverick sat back in his seat to study him. "Do you know what you're going to say to her when you see her?"

"Your manager won't be pleased, I'm assuming."
"Not especially since he wanted me and the band huddling together to write our next album. We haven't even finished our tour for this one."
Maverick nodded with understanding. He'd been there. "So what's the plan besides staying here for the night?"
He ran a hand through his hair. "I'm going home."
"Home?" Maverick asked in surprise. "Home as in Hartsville?"

"So, you had a concert tonight?" Maverick asked before bringing the mug to his lips.
"I did. It was over before I decided to hightail it out of there. I just need time to think, you know? And well…" He sat back in his seat. "I didn't want someone talking me out of going. I just left."

Drake's stomach rumbled and he cringed.
"Was that your stomach?" Rowan asked and her lips twitched.
"Afraid so. I haven't eaten since breakfast. I can never eat before a gig."
"I never could either," Maverick said.
"I'll fix some sandwiches. Do want something, too?" she asked Maverick.
"I can't have a man eat alone."
She grinned and shook her head.
(Finishing up the scene)
"Of course not." She headed back to the kitchen.
"Thank you," Drake called to her.
"No bother," she shouted back. Maverick and Drake moved to one of the tables with their coffees. Once seated Drake took a welcome sip.

He laughed, too, as he scratched his head. "I guess, in a sense, I did."
Maverick's eyebrow quirked.
"If it's a problem—"
"No problem, man," Maverick said. "You can crash at my place any time."
He let out a breath he didn’t know he'd been holding. "You're a life savior."
"We're heading out," a short-haired brunette said to Maverick. A man stood beside her with bleached spiked hair.
(To finish the scene.)
"See you both tomorrow," Maverick said. "Good night, Katie, Spike."
The headed toward the back as they chatted on their way outside.
Then Rowan strode out of the kitchen and headed over to them with two cups. "I thought you both might want some coffee."
