Twirl and Dip #SnipSun #snippetsunday
This is a WIP.
(Jumped ahead a few paragraphs in the next chapter. Drake and his father are eating breakfast.)
After a few minutes his father cleared his throat and he glanced up as he reached for his coffee cup. "I was just wondering if you were serious about lending a hand while you were home?" his dad asked.
"Of course. Anything you need, I'm at your service." He reached for the toast on the plate in the center of the table then the butter knife to slice a generous portion of butter to slather on his bread.
"Well then," his father sat back in his seat. "I'm wanted in two places today and both will require more hours available in a day."
"You name it. I'll take one of the jobs." He took bite of the toast.
"Great," his father said. "After you're finished, if you could head over to the Twirl and Dip that would sure help."
"Twirl and Dip?" He had bacon at his lips but let his hand fall as his heart tripped then sped up a beat. "Do you mean Eastyn's place?
"That's right." His father met his gaze.

This is a WIP.
"I haven't been home in forever." Which five years might as well been an eternity. He met his Dad's gaze as a thought a occurred to him. "I could help you out at work, while I'm home. I'd like to build something. I haven't had a chance in a long while and I've been itching to hold a hammer." He needed to shut up. Rambling on would make his arrival home seem suspicious.
Sure enough, his mother and father exchanged glances as if silently communicating. They always seemed to do that when he was growing up.
Then his mother looked at him and smiled.
(A little more to finish the scene.)
"I bet you're hungry. We were just about ready to sit down to dinner. I'll make you a plate."
"I'm famished," he admitted. The scent of roasted chicken wafted in the air and he'd bet she had a cherry pie baked, too.
He took a deep breath and let it out again before he followed his parents into the dining room. He was finally home.

Last sentence from last week: "Are you here for a visit?" his father asked as his gaze shifted to the duffel he held.
This weeks snippet.
"Yes. I hope it's all right."
"Of course it's all right," his mother said. "What kind of question is that?"
His father's brow furrowed and he stared at him over the rim of his glasses. "Is everything all right, son?" He chuckled as if to make light of his arrival. He hadn't been home for five years. "I'm good."

Drake took a cab from the airport and had the driver leave him at the corner of the street so he could walk the rest of the way to his destination.
It was dinnertime or close to it when he let his hand fall on the door. When it opened the man who stood there appeared older than he remembered. His hair thinner and grayer.
"Hi, Dad," he said and didn't realize the emotion he'd been holding back but his voice sounded hoarse and unused.
"Drake." His father opened the screen. Drake barely stood inside the threshold before his father pulled him into an embrace. Then his mother was there, and she gushed over him with tears in her eyes.
Then she held him at arm's length, she said, "You're so skinny." She always told him that, but then it was a great excuse to have a home-cooked meal.

Leaving on a Jet… Plane Twirl and Dip #SnipSun #snippetsunday
Maverick arranged the private airfare with Weston Caufield, a pilot he'd known from when he played with the Roadside Reapers: he'd ring the guy when he didn't want to hassle the airlines. Weston dark hair peeked out beneath a ballcap. He stood a few inches taller than he stood and look fit and trim in his jeans and flannel shirt. "I'll take your things, Weston said as he took the items toward the Cessna on the runway.
He was the only one on the flight and the super mid-size jet was spacious enough to stand with walking room, and even had a service galley, which Weston said he could help himself to the snacks and drinks, but Rowan had packed him goodies from the Heart and Soul and he indulged in the pastries. Their chef new his way around the kitchen and enjoyed he cashew chicken salad sandwich and apple crumble cake for dessert. Then he slept the rest of the way.
Once they landed and he had his things he turned to thank Weston for the lift. "Any time. Any friend of Maverick's is good in my books," Weston said and handed him his card.
(Just a tad more)
"Let me know if you need a lift again. I'll see that I fit you into my schedule."
He glanced at the card then looked at Weston. "Thanks, I'll do that."

The way she said those words, he had a feeling there was more to that statement, but before he could say more, she patted his hand and stood. "Eat, drink, and rest. We'll take care of everything else." She turned headed to the back room where local bands starred on a small stage, acoustic style.
"I'll make a few calls," Maverick said and he turned to glance at him. "The first band is on at six. I'll save you a seat, if you want?"
"I'd like that and thanks…for everything, man?" His voiced choked in his throat with emotion he'd been holding back for a long time.

She nodded with a hint of a smile. "We told your manager you were fine, and you would get in touch. He seemed relieved after he realized who Maverick was and his connection with the Roadside Reapers."
"Thank you. Believe me it wasn't my intention to cause so much trouble."
Rowan reached for the carafe on the counter and topped off his coffee cup with the warm brew. "The woman back home… Do you love her?" Rowan asked as she met his gaze.
He didn't expect the question, but he didn't have to think about the answer. "I do."
That's the ten. Here's a little more to finish the scene.
She nodded as if she approved and he rather liked that she did. "Sometimes, all we need is a second chance."

Kidnapped? Twirl and Dip
Twirl and Dip (WIP)
"Hold on." He placed his fork down on the plate. "I highly doubt my manager can track my credit card purchases. I'm not running from the law. Just taking a break." He chuckled but then sobered when he caught Maverick and Rowan exchanging glances.
"What?"
"Your manager called this morning asking for you since you wouldn't pick up your phone."
"What the—"
"Did you use your credit card?" Maverick stressed the last two words with meaning, "or the credit card that your manager arranged for you to use while you toured?"
A little extra after the 10 sentences.
My manager arranged something of the sort for the Roadside Reapers, to keep track of what we spent on our tours. Made it easier to keep the spending at a reasonable level and it helped to weed through what could be used for write-offs when taxes came about. We agreed to this in our contract with the label, so I'm assuming maybe you made a similar arrangement."
He ran his fingers through his hair and cursed. "Yeah, we did. I didn't even think about it when I used the one I have in my wallet." He let out a tired sigh. He hadn't thought his manager would try to track him down in that manner either.
"Listen," Rowan said, "your manager was just worried about you. You disappeared and you aren't answering your phone. You could have been kidnapped for all he knew."
"I text one of my bandmates this morning." As if this made it better.

(Drake's POV) WIP (Drake is speaking first)
"Hey, I'll be out of your hair today, if that—"
Maverick held up his hand to stop him. "You're welcome to stay as long as you need, but you mentioned last night you wanted to go home. Is that still true this morning?"
He nodded.
"We've been talking," Maverick said as he glanced at Rowan at his side.
"Oh?" Drake countered with curiosity as he poured syrup over the pancakes.
"If you want to stay under the radar," Rowan spoke now, "you won't be able to use your credit cards."
"It's a sure way to trace you," Maverick added, obviously speaking from experience. "And if you'll let us help, we have a plan."

The Morning After. Twirl and Dip
(Drake's POV) WIP
Maverick noticed him first and stood to head over to him with a once over. "Hey man, you're looking better this morning."
He rubbed the back of his head and gave him a sheepish grin. "Sleep and shower does have its magic."
"Your breakfast in the warmer," Rowan said and headed toward the kitchen.
"Take a seat," Maverick pointed to one of the chairs and moved around the bar to the coffeepot. He poured and the rich aroma hit his nostrils. "Here you go," he said as he placed the mug in front of him. A few minutes later Rowan appeared with his plate of hot cakes, bacon and eggs.
He sipped his coffee then realized the couple were staring at him as if they were itching to tell him something.
