She blinked, but the vision remained the same. She didn't understand what happened, but then dreams didn't always make sense. She turned away and glanced up the stairs where the dark-haired women had reached the top and disappeared down the hall. Briar hurried after her.
The flame from candle the woman held flickered wildly as her sure steps took her down the corridor but then she suddenly froze and turned as if she’d sensed Briar’s presence. Perhaps the woman did, but it was obvious by her frown that her sight failed her and thought she remained alone.
The woman continued down the hallway halting in front of one of the rooms and opened the door. Briar scooted in quickly behind her afraid to be shut out if her dream didn’t allow her to open the door and follow. The woman peeked once more into the hall then closed the door and leaned against the hard wood, her chest rising and falling as if frightened or out breath.

Last week in Briar's dream, she is standing on the landing staring up at a stained-glass window of a Claddagh and rose.
Snippet of a work in progress:
Her gaze shifted to the inscription below the stem of the rose. "Love, Loyalty and Friendship I give to thee. For now, for always thru eternity," she murmured.
Her finger hovered over the words as an inkling of a memory flashed. She knew this saying, had read it or… someone had spoken the words to her. She placed her hand on the cool panel, but gasped and stepped back in surprise as the stained-glass warped and shifted as if being melted away. Then a bright light blinded her and she covered her eyes. When the room fell dark again, she peeked at the window expecting the glass to be gone and the night air seeping through the vacant space, but no air feathered over her with whispers of the night. Frowning, she stepped closer once more. The stained-glass window no longer adorned the pane but clear glass now stood in its place.

Briar knew she dreamt. The fog-like stillness, the way her limbs moved without effort prove her point, along with the fact she no longer slept in the comfort of her own bed but wandered the halls of a house she knew only in her dreams. Cloaked with the cover of night and only light filtering in from the moon’s brilliance, she could make out the nineteen-century furniture and wall décor.
A motion caught her eyes, a flicker of light and she rounded the corner of the room to spot a dark-haired woman heading toward the staircase with only a candle flame lighting her way. The woman's long gown spoke of elegance of a lady and her movements were graceful.
Curious, Briar followed, succumbing to the dream and what it would reveal.
A landing separated the stairs into two sections, and Briar paused to peer at the stained-glass window standing as a focal point where if the sun shone bright would no doubt dance with the colors of the rainbow. Cut glass of a single pink and lavender rose and a Claddagh, an Irish symbol with two hands clasping a heart adorned with a crown were depicted in the piece. Her father had given her mother a Claddagh ring signifying loyalty, love and friendship. After her mother had died, her father had given it to Briar where she’d stuffed it away in a jewelry box not bearing the thought of adorning her fingers with such a treasure meant for someone else’s hand.

Yo Ho Ho and Buttered Rum Sundae will be released sometime in the summer of 2022. This is the 2nd tale with Sirena a Jack from Mermaid Cove and Seaside Sundaes.
(THIS IS IN JACK'S POV)
This week's SNIPPET:
She didn’t wear her lace gloves to hide her webbed hands when alone in his company. He loved that she trusted him in this way. She thought the webbing proved a defect, but he loved her and everything about her, webbed fingers, toes, and all.
“I look forward to it,” he told her with a tilt of his lips. He then turned toward Maori Seafair. “It was nice
to meet you finally. You have a lovely daughter. You should be proud.” With those words, he slipped out the door.
As he strode down the walk and farther from Smuggler’s Den, the sea breeze felt lighter in his lungs as if the hurt feelings and regrets clogging the shop had stifled the air they’d been breathing.
JUST A LITTLE MORE...
He glanced over his shoulder at the small shop filled with trinkets from the sea, ice cream delights, as well as memories of long chats with Sirena. She rarely spoke about her mother, and he sensed she had not forgiven her for choosing the sea over family. Hopefully, with Maori’s return, Sirena will find closure or maybe even mend their relationship altogether.

Yo Ho Ho and Buttered Rum Sundae will be released sometime in the summer of 2022. This is the 2nd tale with Sirena a Jack from Mermaid Cove and Seaside Sundaes.
Last sentences of the previous snippet: (THIS IS IN JACK'S POV)
Sirena harrumphed. “You fancied it so much you didn’t stick around to use it. Have you been by to see your husband?”
This week's SNIPPET:
The word husband sliced like a knife, but her mother seemed to take the jab as no more than an annoying bee sting to be swiped away.
“In due time,” Maori said with a shrug and tossed her long golden braid over her shoulder as if it were in her way. “I’d like to catch up with you first.” Her expression softened and appeared hopeful.
Despite her reasons for leaving Sirena, perhaps the woman did care for her daughter. Sirena believed the Merrows could not resist the call to the sea, and legends always held a bit of the truth, but Maori Seafair had returned. It had to be for a good reason.
“Mother,” Sirena broke the silence. “I believe—”
“I should go,” Jack said, interrupting Sirena’s next statement.
JUST A LITTLE MORE...
Mother and daughter needed to air things out, and it wasn’t his place to oversee it. He put the container of shortbread on the counter before turning and placing a kiss on Sirena’s cheek. “You should hear her out,” he said, lowering his voice for her ears only. “For your own peace of mind.”
She’d been clenching her teeth so tightly the side of her delicate jawline pulsed at the effort. Jack believed she might refuse to talk to her mother with such a stance, but finally, she gave a curt nod.
“I’ll ring you later,” Sirena told him, and her hand affectionately caressed his arm.

Yo Ho Ho and Buttered Rum Sundae will be released sometime in the summer of 2022. This is the 2nd tale with Sirena a Jack from Mermaid Cove and Seaside Sundaes.
SNIPPET:
So, this was Sirena’s mother, Jack thought with curiosity. Sirena had told him all about her, of course. Maori Seafair had been born a Merrow, a purebred, though with her standing there in a flowered skirt, flowing white blouse, and barefooted, she appeared as human as he until he met her eyes. They were a beautiful shade of sea green, not unlike Sirena’s, but they were colder, or perhaps he only thought so since the woman had left her daughter when she’d been young and had needed her mother the most.
“Are you going to introduce me?” her mother asked as her eyes swept over him, but something in those cold depths told him he fell short in her eyes.
“What are you doing here?” Sirena’s voice took on terseness Jack had not heard before.
He gave it his best shot to smooth the awkwardness of this meeting. “I’m Jack O’Casey,” he offered as he came forward to shake Maori’s hand.
She touched his outstretched palm lightly before she let her hand fall to her side.
A FEW MORE LINES....
“I’m Sirena’s mother, as I’m sure you realize.” She glanced briefly at Sirena before meeting his gaze once more. “Maori Seafair. You may call me Mrs. Seafair if you wish. I’ve always enjoyed the name.”
Sirena harrumphed. “You fancied it so much you didn’t stick around to use it. Have you been by to see your husband?”

I'm sharing another snippet from Yo Ho Ho and Buttered Rum Sundae that will be released sometime in the summer of 2022. This is the 2nd tale with Sirena a Jack from Mermaid Cove and Seaside Sundaes.
Sirena's mother abandoned the family when Sirena was only a teenager. She's suddenly come back for a visit and has brought with her a surprise.
Here's the Snippet
Sirena did follow, but once she reached the bottom step, she opened her mouth to demand answers, only her words sputtered to a halt. Her gaze landed on a tall, golden-haired man standing near the opening of the cave. He wore dark cargo pants and nothing more as the water splashed onto the rocked floor and pooled around his bare feet. Her gaze traveled up his body, and for a moment, she couldn’t look away from his broad shoulders and tapered waist. Beautiful, she thought, then cursed and focused on his face, which didn’t seem to help matters. His full lips curved as if he knew what a picture of masculine beauty he represented. He isn’t human, she realized. Chiseled jaw, sea-green eyes, and in plain sight, the red cap of their kind shimmering with Merrow enchantment. She would have demanded who he was and why he stood in her cave as if he’d been invited, but before she could find her voice, her mother did the honors.
“Sirena, my love, this is Prince Calder.”

Yo Ho Ho and Buttered Rum Sundae #SnipSun #snippetsunday @KMNBooks @JudgeYourBook
I can't believe I haven't posted a snippet since October! I've been working on two upcoming releases from The Wild Rose Press. I've missed you all. I look forward to reading what you've been up to and sampling those wonderful snippets.
Today I'm sharing a snippet from Yo Ho Ho and Buttered Rum Sundae that will be released sometime in the summer of 2022. This is the 2nd tale with Sirena a Jack from Mermaid Cove and Seaside Sundaes.
Here's the Snippet:
“Sirena Seafair, will you marry me?”
The man wanted to marry her. Jack was on bended knee, proposing to her with a ring and all. Sirena’s heart wanted to say ‘yes,’ but her more logical side told her to wait, not because she didn't want to be with him, but because of her bloodline.
"Jack O'Casey, you do know my mother left my father and me," she reminded him. "The sea called her home, and I fear it will call for me, too. As much as I want to be with you, I must be sure before I give you my answer."
"Maybe the sea will claim you, and maybe it won't," Jack said. "Life is too short to worry about how much time we might have together. It's best we grab what we can before time's greedy hands snatch it all away."
She shook her head, ready to argue more, but Jack spoke first.
"Don't fret, sweet lass. I know you well.
(A little more to finish the scene.)
You think on it, and when you're ready, I'll ask you again." He slipped the ring back inside his pocket.
She frowned and couldn't help commenting, "You took my response in stride, I might say."
His lips twitched as he shrugged those big shoulders of his. "You didn't say ‘no’." She hadn't. Jack was right. She hadn't given him an answer at all, but sure as the sun would rise, he'd expect one soon enough.
