Twirl and Dip #SnipSun #snippetsunday
WIP (Eastyn's POV)
"Well then," she stated as if this would put a stop to the trip down memory lane her mind seemed intent on taking. She needed Drake out of kitchen before she recalled anything else she wanted to forget about this man. Obviously, putting the past behind her had been one big fat lie.
"Let's put you to work." She took a deep breath and squared he shoulders and walked by him and his musky scent teased her senses. She gritted her teeth as her feet hurried toward the front door just to put some distance between them.
"My sign out front isn't lighting up properly," she said when he caught up with her.
He shaded his eyes and glanced up at the sign. "I'll work on that first then, but I'll need you to turn off the circuit to the sign." He glanced at her and for a moment he looked as if he were contemplating saying more, but then he cleared his throat and waited for her to agree to his request.

WIP (Eastyn's POV)
"No?" She raised her eyebrows in question. "Why else would a successful rock star come home to use those hands for fixin' instead of strummin' a guitar? Hmm?" she challenged.
He pursed his lips as if he didn't seem to like she called him out on his bull crap.
"Okay, maybe I am hiding," he finally admitted. "I needed something…different," he settled on for lack of a better word she supposed. "I used to work with my dad. You remember that don't you?"
Of course, she remembered him working with Jack, and she remembered a whole lot of things she wished her mind would stop recalling.
(A few more sentences to finish the scene.)
Like how those lips felt against hers and how his hands had caressed in ways that made her heart skip a beat. Something like it was doing now and he hadn't laid a hand on her.

WIP (Eastyn's POV)
"Don't you need to tune a guitar or kiss a starlet or something?"
Oh hell, why did she go there? Snarky nattering wasn't the conversation she wanted to have with him even if he deserved it. Pettiness had never been her style and she'd made peace with her decision to put Drake Tennyson behind her and move on or at least it had been the plan. However, with the past standing in her kitchen and staring her in the eye, all those feelings of hurt and betrayal bubbled to the surface as if five years had never happened. Her eyes shifted to the worktable and she reached for the flour and then rearranged the other ingredients for the chocolate chip muffins for the third time. The recipe sat to the side with her scribbles and suggestions, but how could she concentrate when Drake stood there, looking all kinds of yummy in his work clothes, and with his dreamy eyes focused on her like she was some morsel he'd like to devour.
"I just want to work," he finally told her with a heavy sigh and this time she noted the forlorn cadence of his voice and she met his gaze.
They stood staring at each other for a split second more before she finally nodded in agreement. She did need a handyman, and if memory served her his hands were pretty talented with a hammer…among other things, her mind was so kind to remind her, making her shift her feet.
(A few more sentences...)
"I'm sure there is a good story there as to why you're sporting your daddy's tool belt instead of touring with your band, but who am I to say anything about you coming home to hide?" Again with the snarky banter and she cringed. It seemed her tongue had a mind of its own.
"I'm not hiding," he said defensively, and his stance stiffened.

"My dad said you needed a handyman." He turned his hands palm up and shrugged. "I guess I'm your guy today."
"You?" she asked incredulously. Had the earth stopped spinning? She understood Drake's words but they didn't make sense. Handyman? No. He was off with his band somewhere, preforming to thousands of fans, not standing in her kitchen offering to do manual labor.
"Yes, me," Drake said, and she thought she heard a bit of annoyance in those words.

She forced herself to look away as if arranging her ingredients on the workstation proved an all too important duty.
"Dad had an emergency at Polly Van Gleason's house," he told her. "A pipe broke under foundation or something like that."
Her gaze shot to his with concern. "Oh, no, Polly told me the other day she she thought her water heater was on the fritz. I didn't realize it was more serious."
Drake took a step closer and her eyes fastened on the work belt and gloves hanging like an adornment from his jeans pocket and her brows knitted together. Drake standing in her kitchen and not on a stage somewhere and him sporting a tool belt instead of a guitar didn't seem right in the least. She finally found her voice and narrowed her eyes on him wondering if this was some kind of joke.
"Why are you here, Drake?" her voice came on harsher than she meant.

This is a WIP.
"Drake? she asked though his name sounded more like a croak from sick bullfrog.
His lips curved in that all too familiar lopsided grin and she mentally cursed herself for allowing his smile to affect her in a way that rendered her speechless.
"Hi, Eastyn, long time no see," he said with a shrug. The lights flickered and he glanced at the fixture overhead.
That's all he had to say to her? Well she had plenty to say to him, only she couldn't remember one lick of the speech she had rehearsed years ago for just this moment.
"Where's your father?" she finally filled the awkward silence with mundane nattering as she walked over to the counter to place the chocolate chip bag down before it slipped from her fingers that trembled for no good reason. Then she turned to face Drake, taking in his casual attire. Last time she caught a glimpse of him, he'd been on a TV morning show all decked out in leather and he wore dark eyeliner of all things. He appeared void of makeup this morning, appearing more like the boy she knew in her youth, though there were shadows beneath those mesmerizing dark-fringed eyes as if he were bone tired.

Twirl and Dip #SnipSun #snippetsunday
This is a WIP.
Eastyn heard the bell chime upfront and knew it was probably Jack Tennyson. She'd arranged for him to come by today since the Twirl and Dip kept their doors closed on Mondays. Hopefully, the minor maintenance needed to be done wouldn't take too long.
While Mr. Tennyson worked, she planned to create the new flavored ice cream of the month. Homemade ice creams were her specialty, and she liked to come up with different flavors to keep the customers coming back in to try something new.
"I'm in the kitchen," she yelled to let Mr. Tennyson know where to find her.
She placed the items in her hands on the large stainless-steel worktable she used to create her specialties, whether it proved to be ice cream or home baked goods. "The chocolate chips," she murmured and strode back to the walk-in pantry for the rest of the items.
"Where would you like me to start?" she heard a man call to her and she frowned wondering why Mr. Tennyson's stiff with age voice now vibrated beautifully clear as if he were a much younger man.
She strode out of the pantry and froze as her gaze collided with a six-foot lean male with dark as ebony hair and green eyes.

Time to sort things out. Twirl and Dip #SnipSun #snippetsunday
This is a WIP.
He wanted to do something he enjoyed doing before his dreams of becoming a rock star became a reality. However, what were the chances Eastyn would need her place worked on when he volunteered to help his father? He sat back in his seat. "It's not that I don't want to, but you know Eastyn and I…well, we didn't end things on good terms."
"This is business. She needs things repaired and you're the man to do it."
"True, I am capable but—" "Good." his father said as if he hadn't heard the hesitation. "You can take the truck," he said, pushing back his chair to stand. "Polly has equipment I can use at her place."
(That is ten lines.)
He turned to leave but then glanced over his shoulder. "Maybe doing this job will give you and Eastyn a chance to sort things out."
Drake pursed his lips. "I planned on making it right with her. It's part of the reason I'm here. I just hadn't thought it would be today."
His father chuckled, making him stare at him "Son, you've waited five years. Don't you think that's long enough?"
"Do you believe she'll even want me there even if it's to work on her place?"
"There's only one way to find out." His father said and strode away not waiting to hear his reply.

This is a WIP.
"That's right." His father met his gaze.
He wanted to see Eastyn. It was the reason he was here, but he wanted a plan their meeting in a neutral spot, not show up at her place as the handyman. It didn't seem like the best way to see someone you left behind and hope to apologize and be forgiven.
He cleared his throat. "You don't have something else I can work on?"
His father seemed to consider this for a moment.
"The project out at Mrs. Van Gleason's involves tearing up the foundation. A pipe broke and needs replacing."
(A little more to finish the scene.)
"Oh," he said and couldn't keep the deflated hope from escaping as well and revealing the project would be more than he could handle.
"If you don't want to help out, you don't have to, son," his father gave him in out. "It's just you offered," he added with a shrug.
