Snippet:
How could he have believed the incident would never get back to Eastyn? The paparazzi watched him like a hawk. Of course, they'd get a photo of his tongue down the starlet's throat, and he didn't do anything to protect his privacy. It was like being caught proved a mission he couldn't fail. It'd been a chicken shit way of breaking it off with Eastyn.
The instant fame had been a drug he couldn't resist. He became the cliche, embracing the bad-boy rockstar persona as if the role had been written just for him.
Long distant relationships never lasted. Distance didn't make the heart grow fonder and all that bullshit. Distance made it easier to hurt your loved ones because you couldn't see the disappointment in their eyes.

Snippet:
With the screws unfastened, he easily removed the Twirl and Dip sign from the mount attached to the front of the building. He brought it inside the shop and placed it on the nearest table so he could replace the neon tubes. He first had to take the insulating cap off and untwist the tubing while making sure not the break the tubulation. Hopefully, it was just a loose wire and not the tubing itself that needed to be replaced, but if it was, that would have to be ordered.
Why hadn't Eastyn laid into him? He deserved it. He had hurt her with his stunt he pulled, kissing a woman he hadn't even cared about, but he'd been stupid and full of himself. He was high on success and thought he could do whatever he wanted to do without consequences. Only it cost him dearly, didn't it? He lost his best friend, lover and fiancée all in one fell swoop.

Last sentences of last week: He needed a job, but his resume lacked in that department. There weren't many callings for singer and guitar players in Hartsville, not if he wanted to support a family.
Snippet:
"Oh hell," he murmured under his breath. He was jumping ahead, wasn't he? He hadn't even won the girl back.
When he arrived in town last night, he believed working with his dad would assist him in figuring this all out. Something about a tool in his hand always helped him sort out his thoughts, but he hadn't expected his dad to send him straight to Eastyn first thing.
"I'd go myself," his father had said, "but Mrs. Van Gleason is expecting me first thing."
Drake could handle minor plumbing problems, but not if it was more involved.
"She said her basement is flooded," her father had explained as if he could tell Drake wanted to take Polly's job instead.
Heck, he had wanted to chicken out and let his father take care of Eastyn's shop.
So instead, here he stood at the Twirl and Dip, and Eastyn's words about Polly told him all he needed to know. Yes, his father had been correct. He didn't know how to repair a broken pipe, but he could have replaced a water heater. It made him wonder if his father had done this on purpose.

Drake's mother, Mary Tennyson, a four-foot-eleven woman who only had a few strands of gray hair on her head, and she was pushing fifty-seven, thought the world's problems could be saved with a proper meal. Drake's father on the other hand believed a hard day's work could set anyone straight. Maybe they were both right, but at this moment Drake was glad his mother had prepared a full breakfast before he faced Eastyn.
Standing on the ladder, he reached for the screwdriver. He'd have to take the faulty sign down to work on it. Neon sign tubing could be tricky.
As first meetings go—when one has been the biggest jerk in the world— it hadn't gone as bad as he imagined. Eastyn hadn't yelled nor threw anything at him; however, she did accuse him of hiding which made him sound like a wuss. Not exactly a flattering observation. He would have rather she bopped him one.

"She's right," he grumbled under his breath. Hadn't he made it clear to his parents he didn't want to talk to any of the bandmembers or Sully, his manager if any of them called the house asking for him? If that didn't sound like someone was hiding, he didn't know what else would, and Eastyn had picked up on it right away. He didn't know if he should be glad that she still knew him so well or annoyed that he apparently was an open book.

“It’s a sin to tell a lie.” Twirl and Dip #SnipSun #snippetsunday
Her feet froze as she realized how silly she was being. She strode over to the control box in the kitchen and flipped off the power to the sign outside. So what Drake was here? So what he was fixing her sign? They weren't together any longer, and there was no going back to that disaster. Her feet moved on their own accord to the doorway of the kitchen and where she could see the front window and where Drake had placed the ladder so he could climb up to take a look at her sign. "The power's off," she shouted, and he gave her the thumbs up before he started up the ladder. Long and lean and sure footed. When he lifted his hands to reach for the sign, she caught sight of a bit of flesh where his T-shirt lifted, and his jeans began. She bit her lower lip and stepped back into her kitchen where she felt a whole lot safer.

Not that she feared Drake in any way. She didn't trust herself. No matter how much time had passed, Drake still did it for her and didn't that just rankle her to no end.
However, she had plenty of will power when it came to sweet delights and never overdid it. She would treat Drake in the same manner. She already had her fill with him, and there was no reason to resample the goods. No matter how tempting.
The jukebox turned on in the other room and she cringed when she realized what record the darn machine had chosen to play. The lead singer of the Somethin' Smith and The Redheads belted out the lyrics to It's a Sin to Tell a Lie.

WIP (Eastyn's POV) Last week we ended with Drake asking Eastyn to turn off the circuit to the sign to her soda shop so he could work on it.
Snippet:
Through the large window she could see him heading toward a truck parked at the curb. He must have borrowed it from his dad since the business' logo was displayed on the side door.
She hurried back to the kitchen as the turmoil of emotions assailed. She wanted to scream or hit him… or maybe she just wanted to wrap her arms around his neck and breath him in as she kissed him. She squeezed her eyes shut. "Get a grip," she grumbled as she paced, trying to calm her nerves. Drake was back in town. Why did he have to look sinfully fine in his blue jeans just like she remembered him. Why did his voice have to make her stomach do flip flops as if she still cared about him? WIP (Eastyn's POV) Last week we ended with Drake asking Eastyn to turn off the circuit to the sign to her soda shop so he could work on it.
Snippet: Drake is speaking first.
"Just make a list of what you need done," he called after her, making her glance at him, "and I'll get to what I can today."
"I have a list scribbled down in my office. Did it this morning." She turned to go, but he halted her steps when he spoke again.
"Eastyn?" His voice had lowered an octave.
His hands were in his pockets and his eyes said so much, longing and sorrowful and…unsure. Of her? Of being here? She swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat.
"It's really great to see you," he told her, and his voice sounded heavy with emotion but before she could decipher what it meant, he turned and headed back outside.
