Rowan reached for Spike's arm
to halt him and he turned to look at her. "What made you ask that
question?" She drew in a quivering breath and added, "Why would you
think Haley Rose's ghost would haunt this place?"

Maverick came to stand by Rowan
and wondered why she seemed out of sorts with the ghost story.  

Spike stared at her curiously
but answered her. "Her father owned this place," he stated. "I
thought everyone knew that."

Rowan shook her head and
frowned. "I-I didn't."

"Did you know they never found her body or her boyfriend's either?" Spike asked. "It's a pretty interesting unsolved mystery; they drove away from here and just vanished." "Occasionally, some have spotted a lady holding a man's hand. Perhaps they'd been a boyfriend and girlfriend when they were alive; however, no one knows why the couple haunts the place."

"Is it Haley Rose and Baz
Keegan," Spike spoke up and Rowan's gave riveted to him.

Jared looked surprised but then nodded. "Some had thought so but no one knows for sure." Jarod answered a few more questions thrown his way before he went over the rules of where they could and could not explore. "Take your time," Jared told them. "Don't forget to use the EVP device and EMF meters. I have a few more items left here if you didn't pick one up. EMF meter will pick up electronic fields, while the EVP device may pick up the spirit's voice."

The family closed the park even
though they had just finished the pool that had four slides and a wading area.
Some say the woman who haunts this place is the daughter, but others believe
it's the mother who is hoping her daughter will return home. She had loved this
place and would frequent it often before bigger dreams took her away. During
the summers, she worked at the concession stand." He turned toward the
building behind him and shone his flashlight. "Maybe she'll be serving the
guest tonight."

There were a few gasped from the crowd then chuckles.

"Any other ghosts?" a woman asked with curiosity.

Maverick realized many of the people here were not locals and must have heard about the ghost tour from someone who lived around here. Word of mouth had a way of finding people who were interested in the paranormal, especially around Halloween.

"Gather around,"
Jared called to them and waved his hands for the group to draw near. "The
water park opened in 1983, a tourist attraction people sought to keep cool
during the summer," he began the ghost story with a bit of history.
"Unfortunately, in 1987, the fun stopped for Tina Easton when the teen
suffered a seizure. Before anyone realized what had happened to her, the girl
was floating at the bottom of the pool."

Jared went on to tell the story
Maverick had related to Rowan earlier. He'd heard the tales before and the
tragedy of it always struck him with the same sadness that the young girl's
life had been cut short.

"Then in 1988," Jared said. "A tragedy
struck the family who ran the place. Their only daughter disappeared and was
never found. Six months later the mother lost her battle with cancer.

As they came to the end of the dirt road, a fence blocked their entrance to the water park. Of course, it wouldn't stop anyone from jumping it if they had an inkling to do so. Luckily, they didn't have to resort to calisthenics; Jared had the key and opened the lock.

"Make sure you wait for me
at the concession stand up ahead. I don't want anyone wandering off until I
turn on the lights."

Rowan fell back beside him now
that Katie and Spike were practically glued to each other, his arm linked
around her shoulders and hers around his waist. How they managed to stay
upright and walk baffled him.

Once they neared the old concession stand, he spotted the lights, portable ones with QuadPower LED encased in frosted globes. They were strategically placed to illuminate the area while keeping the ambiance for the ghost tour shrouded in shadows. Jared must have been here earlier to set up things.

You know I wouldn't say so if
it wasn't true. Besides, we could use a change. The place you've been
purchasing your pies and pastries from has gone downhill in the last
year."

She was right. They weren't bad but they had once been high-end for a shop delivering pastries to coffee shops, but lately, they'd been cutting corners and the selections they offered were sparse. "I guess we could give him a trial run."

Her lips curved into a wide grin. "Cool." "Don't get your hopes up. I might think his pastries suck...and I don't mean it in a flattering hot vampire kind of way," he teased.

"A chef?" He lifted a
brow as he tried to imagine tattooed biker-guy in the kitchen whipping up a
soufflé.

"I was wondering," Katie continued, "if he could try out some of his recipes at the Heart and Soul."

"We're not a full-service restaurant, Katie."

"I know but his desserts are scrumptious."

"He's a tattoo artist. See what he did for me," she said as she rolled up her sleeve to reveal a tree of life tattoo with the trunk on her arm and the branches and leaves extending to her shoulder. "I still have a few more sittings to do."

"It doesn't look half
bad," he commented as he took in the detail with interest.

"Don't say it like it
hurts."

He chuckled. "I mean it.
He does nice work. I only question you because I care. You know that,
right?"

Katie looped her hand through his and wasn't in the least put off by his questions. "He may look a little rough around the edges but he's a good guy. Besides he's as a lot hotter than that vampire from the show you're referring to. Though I thought the actor was pretty damn cool."

He harrumphed. "Does your Spike have a job?" He stressed your with a drawn-out drawl just so she realized who they were talking about. He knew Katie and she tended to pick guys who didn't think they needed to work more than a few hours a day and she ended up supporting them until she kicked their arses to the curb.

"He has a job," Katie said with annoyance.

"Uh-huh, what does he do?"
