He didn't understand why he egged her on, but he couldn't seem to help himself. "I'm not a whore-hound, as you so sweetly called me. I'm a lover who pays his dues, and if I recall, I didn't pay you yet for the good time I had."
She opened her mouth to most likely reprimand him, but before she could utter a sound, he pressed his lips over hers, silencing the words with his mouth. His hand went to the back of her head, his fingers sliding into her hair, refusing to let her pull away. She tasted even better the second time around. Her scent of jasmine and orange blossoms with just a hint of vanilla hit his nostrils, enticing him further. God, he wished this woman were one of Maribel's girls. He wanted to taste more of her if she was willing. He pulled away, if only to take a breath and regain his self-control.

God, she was beautiful and damn kissable.
She threw one leg over the edge of the windowsill,
straddling it. How he wished it were him her legs were
around.
"Hey, Pixie," he called to her.
She pinned him down with annoyance. "What is it, Mister
Whore-hound? No offense to you, Lulu," she said without
glancing at her.
"None took, Little Miss." Lulu chuckled.
The pixie wasn't one of Maribel's saloon girls, but she befriended them quickly enough, and she felt right at home in the house where most Christian women he knew would never step foot in, but she condemned him for being a customer. The fact only intrigued him further.

End of the Road
I thought I'd share a snippet from the story.
Cecilia arrived at her mother's home to find her mother a drunken mess. Not a surprise since for 23 years she's celebrated the anniversary of her husband's death in this manner.
Snippet:
"Right after your father died, you would come in here and stare at this beat - up old thing. I would ask you what you were doing." She glanced over her shoulder at her. "Do you remember what you said?"
She shook her head. Of course, she didn't. She was a toddler and those memories at that age were far and in between and a bit fuzzy at best. "You would say: Daddy's playing his guitar and singing to me." Her mother pulled her wrap closer around her for what little good the thin piece of material would do to keep her warm. "You were always his little girl and even in death, you loved him more than me."

"I've shimmied down higher places than this." She tied her dress between her legs. At least she wouldn't be tangled up in the fabric as she made her escape.
Curious, Nash took the steps over to the window for a
quick look to see the path the woman planned on taking. His
gaze fastened on the narrow ledge and the straight drop
below. His eyebrows raised a fraction as he met the pixie's
gaze. The striking sea-green eyes flashed with a warning of
just try and stop me. Heck, he didn't intend to stop the little
lady. With a wave of his hand, he gallantly stepped aside.
"Have a good flight, my little pixie."

This Week's Snippet Below: We're jumping ahead a few paragraphs. Lulu confirmed that Stanfield was still out in the hall, while Jewel finished dressing.

The pixie's gaze narrowed in on the window, and she
hurried over to it, sliding it open. The muted sounds from
outside came in loud and clear. Wagon wheels squeaking, horses snorting, and the murmur of conversations filtered in on the hot breeze. Even the music from the saloon wafted in like a pied-piper melody. Maybe the woman was, indeed, a fairy, for it sure appeared as if she planned to fly out of the window.
"Are you plumb crazy?" At least Lulu saw how foolish it
would be to climb out the window. "You can't go out there."
The pixie's too-kissable mouth curved into a wide grin. "Sure I can, Lulu. The climb is easy."

the girl.
Nash had never seen a woman dress so quickly. What a
crying shame. With curves like hers, why wear clothes at all?
"I have to get out of here, Lulu." The pixie's quick hands
finished with the last of the buttons on her blouse. "Check and
see if Stanfield is still out there loitering in the hall, will you?
And be careful not to let him see you," she warned.
"Sure thing." Lulu peeked out into the hall, while the pixie
finished with her shoes.

The pixie, Nash caught—or rather, she flew into his arms— looked luscious, sweet, and ready for the picking. He moved with purpose and lowered his head to recapture those beautiful lips that had desperately locked onto his for a show, but with a little coaxing on his part, had kissed him back. He wanted to taste her again and it seemed only fair for his role in rescuing her.
"Uh-uh, lover." The pixie slammed her palm firmly on his
chest. "Our tryst ends here."
His sigh was long and drawn out as he lifted his hands in
surrender. He reluctantly moved out of her way, and she
scrambled out of bed, and to safety. It was just as well. If she
stayed a moment longer, he couldn't guarantee he would
remain a gentleman.

well imagine Stanfield's eyes turning dark and dangerous.
The man may indeed be a fool, but he didn't like being called
on it.
"Now, kindly leave," her impromptu champion demanded and left no room for negotiation. "And kindly close the door behind you...before I forget my manners."
"Uh...sure," Stanfield stammered as he backed up. "I'll leave you to...uh...I'll leave." He quickly departed, closing the door behind him. Nash placed the gun on the nightstand beside the bed and turned his attention back to her. Her heart hammered in her chest, beating like a trapped bird trying to escape.
