Zinia's Art Journal Collage

Hello everyone! It’s Zinia here and today I’m back with a different type of project. I had a bunch of scraps laying around on my desk when it hit me. It would be so much fun to use small scraps of pattern paper to create a collage spread in my art journal!

The first thing you need to do is to gather up all your scraps. If you are not hoarding your scraps that’s ok, the Patchwork Show paper from Hustle and Heart is the perfect paper for this technique. After you gather up (or cut down) your scraps, divide them in color families. This will help you assemble a balanced page where the colors are evenly spread.

Zinia-Nov-ArtJournalCollage-01.jpg

Now that everything is in place you can start building your page. I work with one color at a time and make sure to add pieces across the whole area. Balancing every color individually helps you maintain an overall balance to the finished design.

Zinia-Nov-ArtJournalCollage-02.jpg

To stick the paper pieces, I used gel medium in matt finish. It’s a great way to glue things down in your art journal cause it also works as a sealer. I start with a layer of the medium right on the journal, I place the piece of paper on top of it and I finish it off with another coat on top of everything. This extra top coat of gel medium will help later on when we are going to add more details on the page.

Zinia-Nov-ArtJournalCollage-03.jpg

Once the collage is ready there are a multiple things you can do to customize it further. I decided to add some shading around each box with a variety of products. You can either use water-soluble media like crayons or experiment with markers. The best part is that because of the gel medium coat you have a short window to blend your markers even if they are permanent.

Zinia-Nov-ArtJournalCollage-04.jpg

For some final touches I added a few splatters with ink sprays and also some ephemera pieces from On a Whim in colors that matched my colorful blocks.

I really hope you enjoyed this and you got inspired to create beautiful artsy collages with your scraps. Until next time, happy crafting.

Kidbox LOVE

Amy Tangerine x Kidbox

This little guy has been full of smiles and silliness lately. Four is such a fun age and what a delight it has been to see things through his eyes. He's really into making up jokes (and cracking himself up), asking lots of questions, playing Uno at dinner, Legos, and having photo shoots with Ann-Marie! Recently we got some really happy mail from an amazing new kids' clothing subscription company called Kidbox!

Amy Tangerine x Kidbox

Kidbox is the most convenient, cost-effective and exciting way to get the surprise of style, hand-picked by a stylist, for your child 5 times a year. Each seasonal box includes 6-7 items of clothing and only costs $98. (Be sure to check out the discount code at the bottom to save even more!) Best of all, you only pay for what you keep! With sizes starting at newborn and going all the way up to 14, there's something for every age.

Amy Tangerine x Kidbox

After taking a short style quiz, each Kidbox is customized to your child's personal preferences based upon the answers. The whole process only took me a few minutes and when I opened the box, I was thrilled with all of the selections!

Amy Tangerine x Kidbox

Jack clearly loved them, too!

Amy Tangerine x Kidbox

For every box you keep, Kidbox will clothe a child in need...how great is that? We have always tried to infuse the values of giving back in different ways, and this is such a wonderful way that even a four year old can understand. We ended up keeping the entire box, which was a total of 8 pieces and valued at over $200. All the pieces mix and match so well too!

Amy Tangerine x Kidbox

Kidbox is going to be my new go-to present for baby showers and birthday parties; it's the gift that keeps on giving!

Each box comes with stickers, crayons, and postcards packaged neatly in a reusable zippered pouch. His love of arts & crafts continues to evolve and grow almost daily, which makes this crafty mom very happy!

Jack loved coloring the box and spelling out his name with the letter stickers!

Last week in my Bullet Journal

Bullet Journal Weekly Spread

Throwing it back to last week in my bullet journal. Had to add Oprah's speech from the Golden Globes to the Love List too after taking this photo. If you missed it, definitely watch it and here is the full transcript of her inspiring and powerful words.

This weekly vertical format is what I think I will do for most of January. It did take quite a bit of time to put together, which is motivating in the beginning of things and can be hard to sustain for someone like me. For those asking if I will put together a video, I will likely do a flip through and insights into what’s been working. Going to do a currently list (like I used to do on this blog) about once a month. Thanks for all the suggestions on what to do at the bottom - turns out it’s easy to maintain a weekly habit tracker. What’s your favorite thing about your planner and what system works for you?

Supplies: Journal (in Emerald) | Tombow markers and pens | Amy Tangerine goodies from Sunshine & Good Times, available soon! Learn to draw florals with this Floral Doodle book I highly recommend

I truly believe that one of the best ways to craft a life you love is to do something creative everyday. I'm passionate about infusing creativity into our lives and inspiring Jack to express himself through art. Hoping this 15 minutes of fun on the sidewalk brightens someone's day. Hoping to do more of these shoefies around town. What are you making today?

My boots (under $80!) can be found here and Jack's awesome loafers (in Cognac) can be found here.

Happy New Year!

2018 Bullet Journal

Back in the studio today after an eventful last couple of weeks! Hope your holidays were wonderful. In case you missed the big news on Instagram, I thought I would include it here as well. And over 10,000 likes - whoa!!! I think I will work on a comprehensive blog post about it, so if you have any questions, let me know and maybe I can answer them!

I've decided to start a new bullet journal (in Emerald) even though I failed miserably at keeping up in December. Do you think I should color this in or leave it as is?

PS - Tombow is having a 25% off everything sale through 1/5 using the code: TREATYOURSELF

Zinia's Exploding Sunrays Layout

Hello everyone! It’s Zinia here and today I’d like to share with you a really fun and super easy layout design I created using the Hustle & Heart collection.

I really love all sorts of circular designs. From wreaths to all sorts of evenly arranged elements on a circular perimeter. So it wasn’t surprising that I ended up with this design when I started playing with some scraps.

Zinia-Oct-ExplosingSunrays-02.jpg

This design is perfect to use up any small pieces of paper, especially leftovers from 6x6” pads. You can even use the branding strips from the 12x12” single sheets. The magic starts by cutting those scraps into tall and thin triangles, like a sunray shape. The more variety in shapes and sizes the better. Don’t try to make them identical or similar. The different shapes add even more interest to the overall design.

Once you have a bunch of strips ready, it’s time to start placing them on the page. First thing to do is to find the center of our base. I’m working on a white piece of cardstock but you can definitely try this on any color, even on top of a pattern.

Zinia-Oct-ExplosingSunrays-05.jpg

To arrange the colors in a nice way, I started working with one color at a time. I picked all the navy strips and I made sure I spread them evenly across the design. Then I picked another color and continued till the circle was almost full.

I intentionally left a small area blank to have space for my title. I used a sticker from the Hustle and Heart sticker book for my title cause I really loved the handwritten font, plus the size fit perfectly.

Zinia-Oct-ExplosingSunrays-04.jpg

To embellish the page, I once again gravitated towards more dimensional bits. I removed one layer from the layered stickers so that the vellum piece will stick on top of my photo. I also added a suede bow and an enamel charm.

You can embellish around your photo as much or as little as you like but you want to avoid covering the beautiful background design we just created.

Zinia-Oct-ExplosingSunrays-01.jpg

I really hope you enjoyed this and got inspired to use your scraps in fun and creative ways. Until next time, happy crafting!

Violeta's Beautiful Layout

Hello, I am Violeta Scrap and I want to show you a layout that I have done using the colors white, yellow and black, with some pictures of a dinner with my friends.

BEAUTIFUL LAYOUT 1.jpg

For this Layout I have used a black and white striped paper from the collection “Hustle & Heart” and I have placed a 11,5”x11,5” white cardstock basic paper, in which I have added some drops of spray paint in blue and black.

BEAUTIFUL LAYOUT 2.jpg

I have used two photographs of 3x3,5” and another one of 3”x5”, and I have created a simple layout with different elements from the last collections of Amy Tangerine and some elements from old collections from Amy Tangerine; as I have lots of products from all Amy Tangerine’s collections.

BEAUTIFUL LAYOUT 3.jpg

BEAUTIFUL LAYOUT 4.jpg

For the title of the project I have used a white foam from the “Wild” Thickers pack from the collection “Oh happy life”, combined with another alphabet in black color, made from different materials.

BEAUTIFUL LAYOUT 5.jpg

BEAUTIFUL LAYOUT 6.jpg

As decorative elements, I have used some embellishments that I have cut from “The Little Things” paper, from the collection “Hustle & Heart” and some letter that I have cut from the “All the things” paper from the collection “On a Whim”.

BEAUTIFUL LAYOUT 7.jpg

What’s more, I have included some transparent numers, from an old Amy Tangerine’s collection, and as a decorative element some glossy puffy stickers in yellow and a faux suede bow, also in yellow.

BEAUTIFUL LAYOUT 8.jpg

You can create a Layout combining some elements from old Amy Tangerine’s collections with products from the new collections.

Here's the video I put together and don't forget the awesome discount codes provided by a couple of the brands - details below!

Fun with Ferdinand!

Most friends I've asked can remember the first movie they saw in the theatre. My mom took me when I was four and it was probably one of my first memories. Thanks to Nickelodeon, we had the fun opportunity to attend a screening of the film, Ferdinand. We invited my friend from college, Dana, and her daughter Star to come along for Jack's
first movie in the theatre!

Ferdinand!

Star let Jack choose where we would sit and we got settled with our popcorn. Jack literally sat at the edge of his seat the entire time and laughed out loud a lot. Seeing his face light up and turn towards me at various points in the movie made me so happy to have Ferdinand be the first film for him in the theatre. It was an inspiring tale about
choosing love, doing the right thing, and not being afraid to be yourself. When we were walking out, Jack said, "I want to see it again!" Star said she loved the whole movie, especially the end, and I agree with both of them. I don't think this is a spoiler alert, but you will want to stay through the credits!

Ferdinand LA premiere

Then we went to a studio where Nickelodeon recreated a set that was an obstacle course inspired by the "bull in a china shop" scene from Ferdinand.

Ferdinand Bull in a china shop

TJJ_2510.jpg

I put on the bull sumo suit with the assistance of two others and waddled my way onto the set. It was such a fun experience overall and Jack and Star got to take some stuffies as well as the book!

Jack even took his first nap in weeks on our way home and we had the most magical sunset.

Ferdinand

Relive the fun with us in this video:

Let me know if you check out Ferdinand in theatres December 15!

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Nickelodeon in partnership with Fox. The opinions and text are all mine.

As always, my creative partners and I appreciate the support.
