Friday Funnies: I Just Want to WRITE!

Hello My Happy People,

I have been feeling the stress lately of trying to keep up with everything. As a writer, I just really want to write most days, but being a one woman show and all the marketing and business aspects I have to deal with, it seems like the least amount of time in my budget is spent on actual writing.

It's a Catch-22 situation. I need to write books to be able to sell those books, but I need to market and network to get people to learn about me and be able to find my books to buy them so I can write more books that will also need to be marketed. All while keeping up the website and social media presence so people can find out about me and my books and find where to buy them ... makes me tired just thinking about it all.

Today I think we need jokes about writing! I know I can use the laugh myself. Have a great weekend people and cross your fingers that I will have some great book updates next week!

A: Oh yes, quite a few, my car, my house, my saving bonds …

A: I don't care what you think, I’m not changing anything!

A: A very clean house.

Q: What’s it like to be try to build a writing career?

A: Honestly, it’s difficult to put into words.

Q: What do you call an author who has health insurance?

A: Married.

Q: Do you think writers are tolerant people?

A: Oh yes, my alcohol tolerance has increased significantly since I became an author.

Q: How is editing and parenting a toddler the same?

A: In both cases you read the same damn book over and over and over.

Q: What is usually gross, bizarre, and could put you on an FBI watch list?

A: An author's internet browser history.

Hello My Happy People,Today I get to chat with historical epic fantasy author, Angela R. Hughes. Angela is based in Waco, Texas but part of her heart is firmly ensconced across the pond in the United Kingdom, Celtic Mythology, and Arthurian Legends. It has been her ambition to write stories that grip and inspire her readers, alluring them into myth and legend.

Angela believes in the power of storytelling and has always been inspired by mythologies and legends of the hero’s quest. She has been particularly drawn to Arthurian legend and its ancient roots that spanned into the Cymru world. She has studied Arthurian legend, as well as Celtic Mythology. While living in Ireland, she fell in love with the history and landscapes of England, Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.

Angela shares with me details about her fantasy series The Once and Future Chronicles which currently include; Book One: Elanor and the Song of the Bard, Book Two: Merlin and the Magic of Time, with Book Three: Arthur and the Golden Dragon coming soon.

Friday Funnies: Summer Days!

Hello My Happy People,

It is finally those days when the weather is more often hot and sunny and there are loads of things to do around town. It's time for pool parties, cookouts, and summer vacations. In our town there are winefests, bookfests, and street foodfests. There is just about something for anyone if you look hard enough.

I am working so hard on finishing up the last bit of Into the West: Family Ties, working on Book Banter with Dianne Burckhardt (our guest authors are just amazing!), and trying to have time with the hubbie. It's hard to find a good balance some days

I still want to look into creating an online magazine but that is low on my priority list right now. I need to look into the programs I would need to have to make it look good and easy for anyone online to access so it will be a work in progress for a while yet.

It's a holiday here in Germany so the hubbie is home. So far today the hubbie and I have already walked to the hardware store around the corner and picked up a few things for the plants on the patio, I have a few veggies and herbs growing. Then after dropping off that stuff, we walked to the grocery, bought way more than I had on my list, stopped in the air-conditioned Starbucks for a cold drink then walked home. Not a bad morning.

I plan to spend the rest of the day writing after I get this blog done. I hope all of you are having a wonderful day and an even better weekend with lots of good weather and loved ones with which to enjoy it.

Book Banter EP 69: Diann Floyd Boehm

Hello My Happy People,

Today on Book Banter with Dianne Burckhardt, I am joined by Diann Floyd Boehm, an award-winning, international author of children’s books and young adult historical fiction.

Diann writes books to inspire her readers to like themselves, to be kind, and to embrace their imagination! Her YouTube Channel, Diann’s Story Garden, lets children hear different authors reading their own children's books. Diann is also involved in various humanitarian projects with multiple organizations.

We midwest women found out we had a lot of common. Besides both being authors and podcasters, Diann was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma (where my father was born), but the family moved to Texas when she was about 18 months old. Diann is a wife and mother of three adult children and one grandson. She has traveled extensively to many parts of the world (another common ground for us) and has lived in the Philippines and Dubai. She and her husband currently reside in Austin, Texas.

Hello My Happy People,

I hope you are doing well. I am toying with an idea that might be crazy ... but so am I so it might work out. I have been thinking about replacing at least the first Manic Monday Vlog every month with an author showcase. For example, one Monday it would be all Children's book authors I want to showcase. The next month it would be all Mystery/Thriller authors. The next, all romance ... you get the idea.

I am not sure if I would do this in video form on TikTok or make it an online magazine on BurckhardtBooks.com. I haven't really thought about details a lot at this point. To begin, any author who wants to can get into the showcase for free. If it gets a significant following, I might charge a small fee for a month in the showcase (like $5-$10 per mention depending on size of ad space or length if video). I have a lot ot work out before I worry about fees.

Obviously this is an attempt by my brain to find more things to do to keep me from actually writing my books now that I have a clear plan in mind for the next two years. I swear this is the problem with having a creative mind sometimes, you want to do everything you possibly can! I may need a keeper soon to keep me focused.

Anyway, I am getting this blog done early so I can spend the rest of tonight just writing. I want the Into the West: Family Ties finished this weekend. I know I said I would finish it by the end of May, but in my head I was counting this weekend in there because it fills out the last full week at the end of May. That is my story and I'm sticking too it ... it still counts!

So without further blather (yes, I have come to really like that word) from me, let's get to the jokes!

A: Finding out it's only Tuesday.

Q: Wouldn't you love to find the Fountain of Youth?

A: We have enough youth, but if you find a map to the Fountain of Smart I'll bring the snacks for that expedition!

Doctor: Do you get plenty of exercise?

Patient: Oh yes, everyday I will jump to conclusions, push my luck, and dodge deadlines.

Q: How do construction workers party?

A: They raise the roof.

Q: What is worse than seeing something done wrong?

A: Seeing it done wrong slowly.

A: Because after every Monday and Tuesday, even the calendar says WTF!

Manic Monday Vlog: Whit Monday!

Hello My Happy People,

Today is Whit Monday in Germany and for a Catholic nation that means a day off. Around the corner from our home there was a Trödelmarkt (think Farmers/Flea Market) and the hubbie and I spent a lot more money than we had planned ... but then we always do at this thing.

Normally it is held the last Sunday of every month in our neighborhood most of the year but because of the holiday this week they held it today. There are food vendors, clothes, housewares, and a coffee cart run by an incredible man who makes THE BEST COFFEE! His are the only cappuccinos I can drink without sugar because they do not need it.

We bought lunch and these great pastries for breakfast. PR's has meat and mine are spinach and feta. We picked up Döners for lunch and they are so bug that it will make dinner too. PR got some Oreos and I found fig cookies. The were so good I had to run back before they were all closed down and got some more.

Friday Funnies: Marketing Nightmares!

Hello My Happy People,

When it comes to self-publishing almost every indie author will tell you the hardest part about the process is marketing your books. It can be the things that nightmares are made of especially if you are working with little to no advertising budget like myself.

This is when we hit social media, contact friends and and family to try to get some word of mouth going, network with other authors, and if you are like me, create a book themed podcast (BookBanter.Buzzsprout.com) where you can do most of those things in one place.

But the trials and tribulations of marketing your books can be exhausting at times and you just have to force yourself to find the lighter side of it all ...which is why we have Marketing Jokes today!

When you can beat what you are struggling with sometimes it's just best to find things to laugh about through it all. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and these jokes get you off to a great start!
