Friday Funnies: Hurry Up ... Laugh!

Hello My happy People,

Today is going to be short and sweet. I am so behind my schedule today. I need to run, run, run!

Quick updates:

Thanks to Ann Charles (who will be my guest for episode 74 on July 12th) I am going to try writing both The Touch and Free Bad Haircuts with Each Craniotomy at the same time. I will switch back and forth each week.

Thanks to Natasha Deen (who will be my guest for episode 75 on July 19th) I got a plotting program she recommended and have plotted out both The Touch and Free Bad Haircuts with Each Craniotomy and will begin writing them very soon. I am currently doing some research and making notes for both.

I hope to finish my edits for Into the West: Family Ties this weekend. I will be publishing the seventh and final book in the same design as all the previously published books in this serial and then doing a redesign of the covers for a special set. Eventually the old cover will be discontinued, but I want the last one to be available in the same style as the previous books until everyone who wants the original set has time to get theirs.

I may have found the software I need to create a flipbook online magazine. Currently we are hoping for an September or October launch. Cross your fingers ... this could be great!

Friday Funnies: I'm So Tired! Jokes, Updates & Crazy Ideas!

Hello My Happy People,

I hope you have had a great week and have amazing plans for this weekend. As for P.R. and myself, we finally get to use one of the Christmas gifts I got him last year, tickets to a KISS concert in Köln (Cologne). We plan to go the whole nine yards and paint our faces like it's the 80s again.

I have also been hard at work with my edits on Into the West: Family Ties. I think it might take me through the weekend to get them finished. When I am finished, I will send them off to beta readers and then my editor. I have been having computer issues and it's worrying me a bit. P.R. was planning to buy me a new computer in August, but I am not 100% certain this computer is going to make it until then. I can do everything from my laptop except edit my podcasts so I am trying to hurry up and edit all the interviews I already have recorded and that will take me to the first week of August. If I can do, that I should be safe (knock on wood!!!). In the meantime, I am doing backups daily and crossing my fingers.

It looks like we are going to move ahead and do an online magazine once a month. For the most part, the content would be from the authors I had on Book Banter with Dianne Burckhardt the podcast. The new project would be Book Banter the Magazine. It will include information I had to cut for time from the podcast interviews, new interviews with authors who don't like doing podcasts, new release information from various authors, my reviews of the books given to me by the podcast guests, and any guest bloggers who would like to contribute articles on authors and book reviews. I thought about contacting the journalism department at my old university and seeing if some of their journalism students would like to contribute to get more practice and be published somewhere they can link to as job experience. I'm still working things out.

As far as my future books, I had been trying to decide which book I should write next, The Touch, my FBI Thriller, or Free Bad Haircuts with Each Craniotomy, my medical autobiography. I was chatting with Ann Charles after her interview on Book Banter with Dianne Burckhardt (EP 74, July 12th 2023) and she asked me if I could write two books at once. I had tried that with finishing the Into the West: Family Ties and starting The Touch but it didn't work at all. I think part of the problem was I was wrapping up one story while trying to start another. Plus, both are fiction where I have to create the worlds. It was just too confusing for me.

With Free Bad Haircuts with Each Craniotomy and The Touch, it will be different. I will be starting both at the same time and only one would be creative while the other is just a retelling of events that actually happened in an entertaining way. I would go back and forth each week and be doing the same process on each so everything will be working, for the most part, in parallel. I am also going to actually plot these both out. Something I don't usually do. The goal will be to just write one chapter each week on the projects. I think I can do this. If nothing else it will be an interesting experiment. If It doesn't workout I can just pick one and finish it then go to the next. Nothing will be lost by giving it a try and I could gain some momentum on the projects. There is no downside.

So yeah, I just need to keep up with the my website, the vlogs, the blogs, and the podcast. Create an online magazine, lay it out, write it, and find some contributors. Finish my edits for Into the West: Family Ties, layout the final version of the cover in two formats and redesign all the other covers in the serial for the new layout. I need to set up two new books and get my outlines and research done so I can start those projects ASAP! Star writing query letters to publishers about Free Bad Haircuts with Each Craniotomy to see if anyone would want to traditionally publish that one. Make a boxed set of the Into the West Saga Serial and see if I can get a BookBub Feature Deal for that. Make promo videos for the podcast. Set up a pre-sale deal for Into the West: Family Ties and start promoting the heck out of that so I can see if I can get enough pre-orders to get it to a paid best sellers list on Amazon. I know I am forgetting something ... oh and do housework, cook, and spend quality time with P.R. and Shaggy. See why I'm tired?

Book Banter EP 72: Wendy Jo Cerna Interview

Hello My Happy People,

Today I am joined by inspirational author, Wendy Jo Cerna. Wendy Jo grew up in Minnesota, the daughter of educators. She fondly remembers family trips with her brothers in the back seat of the family station wagon as one source of her creativity.

Wendy Jo discovered a love of theater in high-school and followed her passion through college. After graduating with a degree in Theater Arts from the University of Washington, Wendy Jo married her college sweetheart. The couple settled in the Seattle area and built their family there.

It wasn't until 2015 when Wendy Jo felt a divine calling to become a writer and share stories she felt needed to be told. With her children grown and other responsibilities needing less of her daily attention, Wendy Jo felt the time was right to follow her heart and begin her writing career.

Friday Funnies: I Can See The Finish Line!

Hello My Happy People,

As you might have guessed from the title and photo of this blog, I am about to FINALLY finish the first draft of Into the West: Family Ties. I just have two more scenes to write in the last chapter and it's done. I am not sure why this one was so difficult to write when all the other books in this serial just flowed out. Who knows? But I will be so glad to have this finished and out to all of you this summer.

Now I have a dilemma. I want to write The Touch next and have been doing loads of research on the topic to get it started, but I think I may have to do my autobiography first. I want to shop it to actual publishers and if I want to get it on the shelves by next October, I am already pressing my luck with that timeline with a publisher.

I have no problem putting it out as another self-published book, but I think this story is interesting enough that a publisher might pick it up. Either way, I think I need to get this written now so I will have it all ready to go by next year. My autobiography, Free Bad Haircuts With Each Craniotomy, will not be a novella. It will be a full novel with photos and excerpts from the journals I kept during all the surgeries. My general practioner from that time of my life has also agreed to write the foreward to explain my conditions in simple medical terms.

But first ... I need to finish the last two scenes of this last chapter of Into the West: Family ties! So time to get back to the keyboard! Well, I'm writing this on a keyboard on my desktop computer and I write the books on my laptop, so ... time to get back to the other keyboard!

Book Banter EP 71: Donna Edman Photographer

Hello My Happy People,

Today on Book banter with Dianne Burckhardt, Dianne is joined by the incredibly talented, Donna Edman. Donna is a professional photographer and visual storyteller working out of Fullerton, California. She shares how she started out her career in the corporate world and didn't find photography until later in life. The career she built as a photographer has brought great reviews from her clients as she helped them create more than just photo albums but legacies for generations to enjoy and cherish.

Donna's current project has grown beyond just a book, but is now also a museum exhibit. Women of Wisdom showcases the images and wisdom of 49 women between the ages of 50 and 95. Her mission with this project was to honor the beauty and wisdom of mature, everyday women. Each woman featured shares a bit of their own personal story as well as the advice they would give their 20-year-old selves.
