Friday Funnies: Rain, Rain, and More Rain

Hello My Happy People,

We have been having some crazy weather for our part of Germany. It has not been like this since we moved here in 2015. In the last month and a half we have seen more rain that I think we saw in the rest of the year. The temperatures have gone from cold enough to need jackets to just plain awful hot and humid. It was so humid at times I felt like I was visiting my sister in Florida.

One of the interesting things about people here in Germany is the fact that people will go out and ride bikes or go for walks no matter what the weather. There is a saying here for when someone balks at going out in bad weather, "Du bist doch nicht aus Zucker!" Which basically translates to, "You are not made of sugar!" Meaning you are not going to fall apart if you get a little wet, so let's go!

I personally find that rather funny and use it on my husband from time to time, but I have to say, "I am not made of sugar," because when he balks at the weather it is because he doesn't want me out in it. Which is adorable, but I have a rain jacket, rain boots, and various umbrellas ... I'm good.

But with this crazy weather I thought some weather jokes would be appropriate. I hope the weather is better where you are and you have a great weekend.

Hello My Happy People,

Today Dianne chats with comic book author and cult movie aficionado, Chris Denmead.

Chris is the host of the midnight horror radio show, The Dr. Chris Radio of Horror. The show broadcasts from Worcester, MA and can be found on 91.3 FM. The show began in Oct, 2007 and airs Sunday nights at 10pm.

Chris is also a graphic novel/comic book author. He has published Vlada, a Dracula Tale in both graphic novel and comic formats. He created the graphic novel with comic book artist Ken Hunt. The premise is based on a gender swap of the classic Dracula story characters.

Chris lives in Framingham, MA where he has one son and a black cat. When he is not writing, Chris enjoys watching movies with his son, playing video games, and working on expanding his comic book collection.

It's late here. Today has been one crappy thing after another. It started with grocery delivery coming an hour and fifteen minutes early, and I paid extra for my delivery time to be at the time I wanted so it fit in my schedule for the day. My day was off course all day after that.

Friday Funnies Blog: Food Fun!!

It's about 10 PM here and I just remembered I needed to do a blog post. I have been working so hard on finishing up Into the West: Family Ties to have it set to publish September 19th in honor of my birthday. Manic Monday Vlog: Time to Celebrate!

Hello My Happy People,

The final edits are in from my editor and I will work on those Thursday. I have to get my podcast ready to go tomorrow and I always reserve Wednesdays to take care of any technical issues with the podcast. I might be able to get to the edits sooner, but the plan is for Thursday.

Once the edits are done, I will do one final check of everything and then load it up and just wait for September 19th to hit for everything to go live! This last book is probably the easiest launch for a book, once I finished the actual writing. I think I finally figured out that I should give myself at least one month between final edits and the actual publication date to make sure I have time for quality checks, advertising, discussing feedback on the book, and maybe talking to people about leaving reviews.

So far the reviews I have are good. Even my editor raved about it and I pay him no matter if he likes it or not. So to have him tell me how much he enjoyed reading it means a lot to me. Now if I can just get the plotting done for the two new books and get my two magazines laid out ... I'm golden!

Friday Funnies: Date Night!

Hello My Happy People,

It's Friday and that means funnies and date night. Every Friday, P.R. and I either order in and watch movies or play video games, or head out for a night together. Date night can mean anything from hitting up some local food trucks to a Michelin rated restaurant. The important thing is always just to spend quality time together.

So I need to hurry up and finish working so we can head out for out night, but before I get to the jokes, I am going to be doing a campaign for my birthday this year and I hope you will join in to help me celebrate.

It can be disappointing at special times of the year to be living here in Germany so far away from all out family and friends. We don't often get to celebrate milestones with anyone else outside of our home.

I thought about asking everyone I know to send me a card for my birthday. It would be great to see all those cards around the house with messages from friends and family I haven't been able to be with since 2019, our last trip to the US. However, the environmentalist in me hates the idea of all the time and effort needed for everyone to send a card that will just eventually get recycled.

Then I had a better idea. Cards typically cost anywhere from $1 to $4 on average just for a simple card. Then there is the time and effort (not to mention gas money) to go get one, postage to Germany, and then actually getting it in the mail. It's a lot of time, money, and effort even just to send a simple card. So I came up with something much cheaper, with less effort on your part, but will actually impact my life in a significant way.

My new book, Into the West: Family Ties is on pre-sale right now on Amazon. The book will be dropping on September 19th, 2023, my birthday. I have set the pre-sale price for the eBook at just 99¢. The price will be going up to the regular cover price October 1st, 2023.

So this year, in lieu of greeting cards, I'm asking for an ebook shower to help me hit the paid bestsellers list. If I can do this, it will put all my books in a different algorithm bracket on Amazon and put them in the results of more searches. This could mean more sales overall for me and my work and actually help get my writing career rolling again for just a few minutes of your time online and only cost you 99¢.

So how about it? Want to help me celebrate my birthday with an ebook shower that could actually impact my life and career for only 99¢? If I could sell just 56 books to celebrate my 56th birthday ... it would be a dream come true!

I am running so far behind today so this will be short. I got to chat with an incredible woman, Reenita Hora. You are going to love what she has to say in our interview. I broke my rule again and this will be a two part interview, but sometimes I just can't bring myself to leave great information on the cutting room floor.

​From her publicist:Reenita is a founder, executive-level content, operations, and marketing leader, and writer. We have got some great things happening at Burckhardt Books. Into the West: Family Ties is with the beta readers now and I have already gotten nots back from one of the readers and will be chatting with them about it. If I get notes from at least one more, I will go ahead and send it off to the professional editor for his review then I will start loading it up for publication!

I think I am going to publish this one on my birthday, September 19th. I am going to look at doing a countdown sale for the launch and if possible, I will start it off at 99 cents on my birthday. Hello My Happy People,

I hope you had a great week. I FINALLY finished my first round of edits on Into the West: Family Ties and have sent it off to a few beta readers. I can see the finish line on the horizon!

I will be so glad to finish this serial. I have absolutely loved writing the Into the West Saga Serial, but I have been working on it since 2014 when I wrote a western as a ghostwriter and got the idea for the saga. I really want to do something very different before I start the next saga, Surviving the West.

The Book Banter Magazine is coming along and I have some fantastic guests coming up on Book Banter with Dianne Burckhardt book talk podcast. Plus, P.R. and I are finally planning our first trip back to the US post Covid. All in all, things are going good. If I could find more time to sleep, things would be fantastic!

I decided to do some hair jokes today because I am actively searching for a new hairstylist. The last person I saw is a great guy, I totally love him. However, it has been almost a year now and I still do not have the hair color I went to him to get. I think it's time to move on. Plus, if you know me, you know I deal with everything with humor ... so, we have hair jokes!
